Graded [Fallen Blossom Shrine] Falling to Rise, Part 2 (aka No Rest for the Weary)

Flying Monkeys? Kai was sure that somebody watched too much Wizard of Oz, by somebody, he meant himself as his boss was quite the fan of classic American movies. Of course he could make fun of them all they wanted, but that would stop being funny once they started to move down to attack…

Kai was not a complainer, but he was honestly starting to get sick of this place, he wanted out at this point, he was in this dream too long. If he wanted to move forwards he needed to wake up away from these ethereal lands. This realm of dreams and his dreams were now in his way… but it was his dreams, his nightmare. Here the thing with dreams and nightmares, if you know you are dreaming, you are in control of them, that is what is called lucid dreaming.

Kai willed, he commanded. ‘DO NOT GET IN OUR WAY.’ He forced this order over his own dream. He was under control here. He wasn’t going to let his nightmare get in his way. No he will not let it. He reached out to the nightmare and willed with all the willpower he could muster.

‘Begone and let us awaken.’

Breathe, in, out.

From breath comes life, from life comes movement, movement begets the strikes that continues your breath.

Keep breathing, and you will continue to fight.

He regarded each foe like the last, faceless and grotesque, but the stomache roiling horrors would not prevail in disturbing his concentration. He had trained for years to attain mastery of the blade... He will not let his path end here. A cut, a slash, a severance of limb, decapitation, splitting the belly before rounding back to cut the spine, piercing the eye socket and twisting... How many had fallen? How many to go?

Did it matter?

No, it did not, in this day they were unthinking weapons, steel was not to falter this day and they were made of it. Commanded forth to slay and slay they did. Proof of victory was within the acts done to attain it, the strength of a strike was in the arm that started it. Their victory relied upon them, and upon them it fell... Should they be strong enough to hold out.

"No matter the scent surrounding you, breath and strike! Manage your strength! Remember the basics they save your life where complexities strain!" he called, cutting the legs out from an undead monster... Did this one seem familiar..? Did it matter? No. He does not remember, they all look the same outside of their limbs and points of weakness, but him... he looked the part of what he was claimed to be.

Long spoiled blood, rent skin and rotted fat stain the blade, until he flicked it to the side, the mithril letting slip the viscera of countless undead fall into the waters... His breathes were slow and deep, revealed eye observing all around with narrowed focus and swiftness seen in those in under great panic. It took a solid fifteen seconds before he noticed the dead were laying still, new threats...? he noted the strange armored people, there was another strange person...

...Another white haired person..? What was he doing here...? is he the cause of this? The fuck did those strange two armored people come from?

Think of what you've learned. A sword is truth and lie, for to be one is to be another within the eyes of one and many, a truth can be half of a lie, a lie can be half of a truth. What is the full truth of this place? He didn't know, he was no metaphysical... investigator... Person...

A sword is also a means of defense, and offense, that much is known just from looking at it. it's a weapon.

A weapon, however, that cut through to the dream of a dead disgusting rotted monster tree. or was it caused by this person? Are they the dead tree given form? He was certainly suspicious. Maybe taking his head would solve the issue?

Hrmm... Where was the big thing...? Ko was certain there was something big here... Was his instincts wrong? What was that feeling he felt when he was shown a flash of this place?

....

"Oi! Deergirl with the pretty eyes. You were here first, are you a part of this? Whats the deal with this guy and the monkeys? They new things to kill or they gonna let us out? Who gives monkeys wings anyways? That sounds like a bad idea in general."

Who would have thought what had just supposed to be a hunting party would have led to all of this chaos? Yukan had no intention of getting involved on the field so soon against a real enemy, yet here he was with the people of Kuridan serving as armed forces, fighting against large swaths of monsters. He wouldn't have ever imagined it so soon. This was certainly giving him some much needed field experience. Yukan needed to further hone his combat skills he knew this now. Riku was correct. Ko and many of the others seemed much more adept to combat, and Yukan felt that it was only logical he learn the spear before learning the sword. He needed to at least obtain the rank of an Ashigaru captain equivalent which was arguably the extent to what he was in his hunting party role, even if not in a formal military capacity.

Even with all of these thoughts in Yukan's mind, he knew that they had to press onward, they had to act as a wall of steel against the horde, as long as it took ceylan they had to bide him time, the words he spoke came from the heart. Defeating this evil tree would make Kuridan ever so more secure. The growing intensity of the battle and the mounting corpses, was arguably disturbing. All these undead, it was as if a hell picture scroll had unraveled itself before them to show them the depths. There were so many fighting in that moment as well from RIku, Ko, all the healers, the spearmen, the bow and arrow users, the precise scouts, and calvary. Unfortunately there were just so many enemies that it was incredibly oppressive. It wasn't too long before Yukan could see with his very own eyes that the formation was starting to wane and there wasn't really any recourse as everyone was getting widled down from exhaustion. This was why Yukan had to get stronger, he had to get stronger to protect his comrades in times like these.

"Hold your resolve, hold it for all of those who sacrificed themselves for the beasts of Kuridan. We will not turn our backs on evil and allow it to consume this land."

Yukan proclaimed defiantly even as they were being increasingly burdened by the horde. Thankfully even as Yukan proclaimed this and hope was wavering, Said foreinger came to their aid and the tide of battled shifted in their favor once again, and it seemed everyone pushed toward one common goal, the goal which was now looking increasingly obtainable.
---
After what was presumably much fighting and several on the brink of death, overextended healers and the like now there were flying monkeys in the distance, even as the undead horde had finally dwindled from the exchange.

He looked forward toward the winged potential adversaries. He also looked over to see if he could gather how much progress Ceylan had made but his realm was far from something easily understandable. He then looked back to the strange figures. That was an important question indeed, were they going to let them leave? Yukan had presumed once the tree was purified the way back to their world would be opened but that was not seeming like a guarantee. For now Yukan stayed with the group as he saw Ko engage.

He felt now the best move was to buy time on the chance that Ceylan needed more, so he figured he would throw his hat into the ring too.

"I do not know who you are but if it can be avoided, we have nearly fulfilled what we set out to do here, if you would allow us to pass we can avoid any further conflict." Republic of Kuridan Etiquette F

Yukan said toward the figures and monkeys, adjusting his voice depending on their distance from the portal and their proximity as needed. He knew the last thing this overworked group was to have to fight those two and the flying monkeys which were a strange sight indeed, perhaps some sort of Yokai. He found Kai's interaction interesting to say the least, even if he didn't fully understand who he was or why he was there yet, maybe he had authority over these beings?

Indicus's chest heaved as he looked across the swamp seeing the bodies of his enemies before him his claws covered in the black ichor that filled the undead. This was his first major fight and he couldn't help but notice his own disappointment that it was over, mixed with the excitement of a fight won.

Indicus looked over himself and saw his cheap brown peasant shirt was now just strips of cloth covered in black ichor and his red blood. Indicus saw several of his deep blue scales on his arms and sky blue scales on his chest chest cracked or chipped, blood and ichor served to further hide their luster. At least the ants responsible for daring to damage his scales were now dead so he could stand satisfied as new scales grew to take their place though he would need a very deep cleaning to restore the shine of his scales.

Looking at the tree in the distance Indicus knew it was now up to that priest to do his part so they could be done with this cursed realm.

Ceylan

As the nightmare entity lunged forward, its hunger for the holy light nearly insatiable, Aurichal met the creature with a mighty roar, his golden sword raised to strike like reys of sunlight against the darkness. Each time Aurichal's sword touched a tendril darkness gave way but so to did the power of Aurichal's sword diminish. The tree's depths trembled with the force of the battle, the very air crackling with the energy of their conflict.

Ceylan's conviction resonated through the ancient tree, his unwavering faith a beacon of light in the heart of the darkness. As he invoked the Medallion of Aegrizora, a warm, divine energy began to emanate from the sacred artifact. Whether it was the spirit of the deity lending its strength or simply the memories of his previous triumph, Ceylan's heart swelled with renewed determination.

Aurichal stood steadfast by his side, his celestial presence a shining beacon of hope amidst the encroaching shadows. As Ceylan reached out to the nightmare's tangible form, he could feel the guiding hand of his Blessed Fortune upon him, leading him to the heart of the corruption.

With unwavering resolve, Ceylan unleashed the full power of his Curse Cleanse, the holy energy surging forth in fifty streams of divine light. The sacred energy pierced through the heart of the darkness, tearing apart the nightmare's malevolent tendrils and purging the ancient tree of the corruption that had plagued it for centuries.

As the nightmare's power waned, Ceylan began to emit a soothing aura that washed over the tree, calming its tortured spirit and promoting healing. The aura spread throughout the tree, filling the once-foul chambers with a gentle warmth and light, banishing the lingering traces of darkness and despair.

As Ceylan's prayer echoed through the heart of the tree, the Nightmare Swamp seemed to exhale a collective sigh of relief. A few lightning bugs flickered about the tree casting faint, blinking celestial light each time thier luminence shone. The ancient tree, once a twisted sentinel of decay, now stood as a symbol of rebirth and redemption, its branches reaching towards the heavens in gratitude. The waters about grew crystal clear and for several hundred feet the dead began to properly progress on the cycle of life, their bodies forming food for new hope and dreams of the future.

Ceylan and Aurichal, having cleansed a portion of the Nightmare Swamp and restored the ancient tree, now stood within the once-tainted shrine, found the air in the hallowed hall twisted and slowly, ever so slowly the blue electric light of Aegrizora's sigil grew in power and intensity, establishing a link and resonnance with the newly created shrine.

The deity's voice was still sorrowful but hopeful, a measured opptomism perhaps. "I thank you childe for dedicating this shrine to me and continuing to undo the centuries of corruption allowed to fester in this dreamrealm when those like Tanarukk began their experiments. I feel the echoes of their experiments on soul forgings and dream shaping. The fae of Creation have wilder kin from the edges of chaos, constrained only by the stories they believe in. It was this story that Tanarukk told me, of the coming Balorian Crusade of the Great Old Ones and the Fair Folk eager to shatter the laws of Creation.

As Aegrizora, Ceylan, and Aurichal stood in the purified shrine, the deity began to speak, revealing more about the history of the tree and the role it played in the Nightmare Swamp.

"This ancient tree has stood here for millennia, bearing witness to countless events, both good and evil. It has long served as a repository of corruption, but part of a system that would take such corruption and transmute it, much like a lymph node in the body. Over time, it would absorb the darkness and corruption that plagued the land, helping to maintain balance in the swamp and its surroundings. Yet, even the mightiest of trees has its limits."

Aegrizora's voice grew somber, the weight of the past heavy upon him. "When Tanarukk and his ilk arrived, they performed experiments upon the little dreams of this place. They created a fey interspecies of empathy and communication, devoted to fostering harmony and friendship. However, that was a byproduct of their true aims, turn such shrines as these into machines capable of generating an army of dark nightmares such as you fought. Beware, childe, for what you fought was the distillation of such work. However, the vintage of dark nightmare was never meant to fight but to reside."

"Thanks to your courage and unwavering resolve, the tree has been cleansed and in time the rest of the Nightmare Swamp may return to its natural state. The tree will continue its role as a sentinel, guarding against the darkness and maintaining the delicate balance of the land."

Aegrizora's expression softened, a warm smile forming on his divine visage. "I am forever grateful for your help again, Ceylan and Aurichal. Your actions have not only saved the tree and the Nightmare Swamp but have also restored hope and balance to the waking world."

"Now that you bear my sigil and this shrine is dedicated to me, I will invest in you the power as it's Shrine Guardian. You may pass this burden to another but until you do it will be yours to carry."

[Lost: Medallion of Aegrizora - A medallion gifted by Aegrizora that may or may not summon the deity.

He counted his blessings, for there were many. In the end, the biggest one was succeeding at this endeavour. He was glad to hear of Aegrizora again. It'd been long. He silently listened to the explanation, but upon suddenly being made a Shrine Guardian, he was taken aback. “You honour me greatly, yet...” He hesitated. How to prhase this carefully and respectfully? “I feel like my duties are not best fulfilled by watching over one place, but rather, by going where I am needed the most.”

He'd have to pass on the duties of becoming a Shrine Guardian, for he couldn't spent as much time and effort dedicated to being the guardian of this one place as he should. There were simply too many other things he believed he still needed to do. Too many others to whom he still needed to offer his aid. Then who would he pass this duty on too... his eyes naturally were focussing on Aurichal. He'd been here right beside him, through the thick of this nightmare. He couldn't have done it without him. Yet... he also knew very little about him.

For one, he had no clue if being asked to stay in this realm would be a blessing or a curse to Aurichal. If he'd ask Aurichal, would he answer honestly? He'd have to try. “Please Aurichal, tell me honestly. If I were to ask you to become this Shrine's Guardian, setting aside any feelings of duty and honour, would you consider it a blessing or a curse?”

He wasn't sure what his other options were. Perhaps one of folk with Yukan might be up to the task? He doubted it. Perhaps he could attempt to summon someone new specifically for this task? He wasn't entirely sure if that'd work and he'd rather ask Aurichal first, considering his involvement. All he knew for sure was that he wished to leave this place in the best possible hands he could think off, yet that those hands weren't his own hands, for he was still a [Wandering Saint] at heart.

Paru held tight to Riku as the boar crashed through the undead, Swinging her sword here and there to catch the zombies that got pushed aside but stayed up. Though she remained composed, she definitely felt the thrill and excitement of battle as she cleaved down the monsters. She'd never charged into the fray on the back of a boar before. Despite the danger, she was definitely having fun. As the last of the undead were mopped up, the boar came to a stand still, during which she hopped off the back. Regrouping with the others, she stowed her sword on her back. "Well, that's ov-" Before she could finish her sentence, cackling began to fill the realm. Suddenly a hoard of flying monkey creatures erupted from the woods. She stared at them, realizing things weren't safe yet, as Ko addressed her. "I'm not part of th-" Wait... What did he just call her?! D-did this mutt ever stop talking?! She took a deep breath and let it out through her nose, preventing the creeping blush from taking over her face. "I have no idea what those are, dog. I'm as confused about my being here as you. But, you're right about that last part." She pulled her sword back over her shoulder, preparing to deal with the worst.

"Tsk, yea came from here and yea don't know what it's about? Don't tell me yea just showed up. Guess if we did guess you could..." he shuffled in place as... Hrrmm??

The dream shifted, from nightmare to filled with hope, he wondered what happened down in that hole, what did the holy man do..? There... Was alot to unpack here, he had this feeling he was witnessing the grand undertaking of years of preparation that came down to a great moment that was.. well.. Climaxing right now. But not ending, but reaching a new level of continued output.

A student surpassed a barrier to their rise, or a master can let loose their truest power upon a worthy foe?

That foe was the corruption it seemed? Hrmm, furtive and recovering... much like that girl from before... Would she had died if he did not call out for aid...? he... believed that would have been the case... And the girl here... torn apart by ferocious undead... Would the others have been harmed greatly had he not stepped in? Would he have died if others had not? One helps one, one helps another... the fabric of life is weaved with a singular thread that produces indefinitely.

The sword cuts this fabric, but is also bound in fabric to be better held...

This metaphor was getting out of hand.

He must focus.

He approached the newcomers, staying abit away from that group. his sword still in hand, and the darkened mass upon his clothing drying, he was a butcher, or perhaps a surgeon, done a long days work but with still enough fervor to continue should more work come. He knew his tool, he knew his craft. What he did not know is what these new people wanted.

"Armored folk and monkey, friend or foe? Or better yet give your names."

As the situation near the portal grew more dire, the atmosphere became tense and oppressive. The Fair Folk, who had once seemed mysterious and intriguing, now appeared menacing and hostile. The flying monkeys that had been shaped from Kai's dreams had transformed, sprouting wicked horns and sharp, vicious teeth that gleamed in the dim light. Their screeching grew more intense, adding to the sense of unease that permeated the air.

The forest itself seemed to be resisting the changes happening hundreds of feet away. Thorns and aggressive plants sprouted from the ground, twisting and tangling around the trees and lunging for anything that dared approach. Even one of the flying monkeys was caught, entangled and exploded in a shower of blood and bone. The once-navigable paths were quickly choked by the encroaching vegetation, making it increasingly difficult to move around.

The old building that housed the portal began to rebuild itself, as if animated by some dark magic. The crumbling walls and timbers straightened and mended, and the building's architecture took on a sinister aspect. The entrance to the portal seemed to shrink, as if the building were trying to prevent anyone from entering or leaving.

The air grew heavy with a sense of foreboding.

Over by the army, a few hundred feet away, Yukan called out, "I do not know who you are but if it can be avoided, we have nearly fulfilled what we set out to do here, if you would allow us to pass we can avoid any further conflict." Republic of Kuridan Etiquette F

The Fair Folk, amused by Yukan's plea, responded with a tone that was equal parts playful and menacing. Their voices seemed to come from all directions, echoing through the thorny forest and bouncing off the walls of the old building that surrounded the portal.

"Oh, dear mortal, you wish to pass without conflict? How charming! We do love a good show of bravery," the female Fair Folk of them said, their laughter ringing through the air like the tinkling of bells.

"But alas," the male Fair Folk chimed in, "We are the Fair Folk, and we are not known for making things easy for your kind. Where would the fun be in that?"

The flying monkeys, now sporting horns and sharp teeth, cackled and screeched, their eerie laughter joining the Fair Folk's as they circled overhead.

"Perhaps," a the female Fair Folk voice suggested, "We could strike a bargain. After all, every good story needs a twist, does it not? What can you offer us in exchange for passage, mortal? Choose wisely, for our whims can be fickle, and our tempers swift."

The Fair Folk were unpredictable and dangerous, and striking a bargain with them would not be a simple task.

Mentally, Kai asserted: ‘Begone and let us awaken.’

As Kai attempted to take control of the dream and reshape the flying monkeys, the Fair Folk and their winged minions seemed to falter for a moment, caught off guard by the sudden surge of power and determination from the young man. The monkeys' cackling and screeching quieted down, their beady eyes darting back and forth between their masters and Kai, as if unsure of whom to obey.

The Fair Folk, however, were not so easily swayed. Though they had been momentarily taken aback, they quickly recovered their composure, their laughter growing even more sinister.

"Oh, my dear boy, did you truly believe you could command us, the Fair Folk, in a realm of dreams and illusions?" the male Fair Folk taunted, their voice dripping with mockery. "We have danced upon the edge of dreams for eons, and your feeble attempts to control us are laughable at best."

As the male Fair Folk spoke, the flying monkeys seemed to regain their confidence, their horns growing longer and their teeth sharper. They screeched and cawed, resuming their menacing circling overhead, as if to emphasize their masters' words.

"However," the female Fair Folk voice whispered, its tone laced with malice and curiosity, "your audacity is intriguing. We do appreciate a bit of entertainment. Perhaps there is still a way for you to amuse us and, in return, earn your passage. But tread carefully, mortal, for our patience wears thin."

With that warning, the Fair Folk fell silent, watching and waiting for Kai's next move, their laughter still echoing through the dense, thorny forest as the old building around the portal continued to rebuild itself.

Within the new shrine...

Ceylan had no clue if being asked to stay in this realm would be a blessing or a curse to Aurichal. If he'd ask Aurichal, would he answer honestly? He'd have to try. “Please Aurichal, tell me honestly. If I were to ask you to become this Shrine's Guardian, setting aside any feelings of duty and honour, would you consider it a blessing or a curse?”

Ceylan wasn't sure what his other options were.

Aurichal pondered the question for a moment, his golden eyes reflecting the sincerity of Ceylan's inquiry. It was evident that the decision weighed heavily on the dragon's heart, but he also understood the importance of the task at hand.

After a moment's silence, Aurichal finally spoke, his voice deep and resonant. "Ceylan, you have always treated me with kindness and respect, and I am grateful for the trust you have placed in me. I understand the gravity of this responsibility, and while I am honored by your consideration, I must also be true to myself."

He paused, his gaze meeting Ceylan's. "If I am to be entirely honest, I would say that it would be both a blessing and a curse. A blessing, for I would be able to serve a noble cause and protect a sacred place that has been reclaimed from darkness. But also a curse, for I have long been a free spirit, and the thought of being bound to a single location is... daunting."

Aurichal drew in a deep breath before continuing. "However, if you truly believe that I am the best choice for this task, and if there are no other viable options, I will accept this responsibility. I will do my best to honor your trust and the memory of those who have suffered in this place."

As Aurichal spoke these words, a sense of determination filled his voice. It was clear that while the prospect of becoming the shrine guardian might be a challenging one, he was prepared to embrace the responsibility if it meant safeguarding the sanctity of the shrine and ensuring the well-being of those who might seek refuge there in the future.

Back outside by the Beastkin Force...

Riku, the leader of the Boar Calvary and commander of a significant portion of the beastkin army, stood tall amidst the chaos. As he watched the swamp return to its natural state and the mysterious beings fade away, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and relief. However, his thoughts were not entirely selfless. Riku saw an opportunity to gain even more power and respect among his people by taking credit for the victory.

As he addressed his fellow warriors, Riku carefully spun the narrative in his favor. "Today, we have fought valiantly and achieved a great victory. Under my leadership, we have cleansed this cursed place, and we have paved the way for a brighter future. Our efforts have shown the strength of the beastkin and the power of the Boar Calvary," Riku said, his voice booming with authority and self-assurance. "If need be, we will trample the Fair Folk who think they can bar our way home."

Meanwhile Tashigoto...

Tashigoto, the pragmatic and logistical Tanuki, observed the situation with calculating eyes. He understood that Riku, his cousin, was trying to take credit for the success of the mission, and he knew the importance of staying relevant in this ever-changing scenario. As someone who had been with Yukan for a longer time and had funded a significant portion of the work, Tashigoto couldn't let Riku's actions go unnoticed.

Approaching Yukan discreetly, Tashigoto spoke in a low, measured tone. "Yukan, I understand that Riku has been instrumental in our efforts, but we must not forget the contributions of the entire team. It's important to acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved, especially those who have been with you from the very beginning."

He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "As the leader, you should address the entire group, ensuring that credit is given where it's due. In doing so, you'll not only reinforce your authority but also maintain a sense of unity and cooperation within our ranks. Furthermore, it's essential to keep an eye on Riku's actions and ambitions, so they don't overshadow the hard work of others."

Tashigoto's words were practical and grounded in the experience of managing resources and people. He knew that keeping a balance in the group dynamics was crucial for the overall success of their mission and maintaining a healthy working relationship among the members.

Gyoubu is also nearby....

Gyoubu, weakened from overexertion but determined to protect Yukan and the integrity of the mission, approached Yukan and Tashigoto. Despite her fatigue, her eyes burned with the urgency of her message. "Yukan, Tashigoto is right. We must make sure that everyone's contributions are acknowledged and appreciated. However, there is another matter that requires your immediate attention."

She paused, struggling to catch her breath but determined to get her message across. "It is crucial that no single individual, especially from the Masanori clan, gains control over the shrine and uses it for political leverage. Such an event could have far-reaching consequences and threaten the delicate balance of power."

Gyoubu looked around, ensuring that no one else was within earshot. "My advice to you, Yukan, is to seize the initiative before Riku can and establish an impartial governing body or council to oversee the shrine's management. By doing so, you will prevent any one person or clan from exploiting the shrine for their own gain. Moreover, it will reinforce your leadership and demonstrate your commitment to fairness and justice."

Gyoubu's words, though spoken with difficulty due to her weakened state, were heavy with the wisdom of someone who understood the potential consequences of unbalanced power dynamics. She knew that Yukan's actions in this moment would have a lasting impact on the future of the shrine and those involved in its protection.

indicus listened to the chatter among the beast kin and quickly understood the situation. The tree was a kind of shrine once upon a time and now it was freed of corruption it would be a place of power once more and now everyone wanted a piece of the pie and a careful political balance was in a state of imbalance. Part of Indicus was interested in the shrine but Indicus knew if he did somehow gain control he would be rooted to this area and unable to pursue his own goals, something that Indicus would not allow to happen if he could help it not when he was close to a lead this witch that seemed to know something about him.

Indicus not wanting to be apart of the politics decided to check the shrine itself out. Corrupted it gave him many visions that resonated with him freed of corruption maybe it could still help, besides maybe the priest would know what the silver substance was that he got from the tree was and maybe an idea of why it resonates so closely with him.

Indicus walked up to the shrine admiring the tree now that it looked healthy and strong, radiating a holy aura. There he saw the priest. "Hello priest, I see you were successful. I wanted to ask a question about something I found within the physical tree while it was corrupted I don't even know if it has anything to do with it or not but I figured someone as well traveled as you might be able to tell me more about ," Indicus took out a vial of the silvery liquid. "This substance it acts as a sort of acid or some equivalent that burns on contact causing great pain and causes illusions of fire at least that is what it projected last I saw it actually used, seeded in people acting as carriers for the stuff actually the woman you helped save earlier was one unfortunate carrier."

Kai… stepped forwards, no fear or hesitation… for a moment it would appear that he was going to challenge the two fae… but he didn’t. He didn’t say anything to them, instead his whole being told them what he thought of them… they were nothing. They did not even hold a meaning to the man. Their swordsmanship, their power. Kai did not even consider it worth acknowledging. He didn’t even feel hate or disgust, they were nothing to him.

“Are ya satisfied?”

Kai asked his nightmares manifested. The flying monkeys, a representation of who he failed. The sorrow of those memories manifested into physical forms. The guilt of his failure manifesting into this torment. His nightmares.

“Are ya satisfied with serving those two nobodies? Ya all are manifestation of me, ya are my dream and nightmares, are ya all telling me, I’m satisfied betraying the boss!?”

Kai suddenly shouted at his nightmares.

“The truly strong do not look down on the powerless, they do not have that arrogance to look down on those who are In misfortune. Those who do are the truly weak, are ya telling me ya are satisfied with following those weaklings over there? Do you not remember?”

The Fae had power, but they only used it to justify looking down on those less fortunate, to toy with others at their whim. They may have power, but they had no spirit. Without spirit, they were weak, weaklings with power.

In contrast, Kai could remember when he was also the same, having power, but no spirit. He could remember his lowest, he could remember wasting away on the streets beneath the heavy rains. He had nothing there, he tossed away everyone and forsaken everything. He should’ve have died there, but a hand had reached out to him. That hand was full of strength, not a false one only composed of power, but true spirit to back that power up. He did not look at him with arrogance, but guidance.

“Do ya not remember what Yakuza is? Yakuza is the number of misfortune. It is the lowest number, the biggest misfortune. Yet even the lowest numbers have a value. That is what the Boss taught us.”

Kai paused as he told his nightmares.

“I failed to protect the Boss, but his spirit still lives on. Serving those two nobodies, those who grow arrogant with a little bit of power, those with rotten spirits goes against everything he taught us.”

Kai looked at his nightmares once again. With fury in his eyes, fury directed towards himself and himself alone he asked again.

“Are ya all satisfied with betraying that spirit? With betraying the man that gave us his hand that day… Are ya satisfied with betraying him!?”

Kai paused before answering his own question.

“Because I’m not. If even a single part of myself is willing turn their back on the Boss…”

Kai pointed the blade of the moonlit Katana to his own neck.

“I’d rather… Die than betray his spirit.

“So, tell me… my nightmares… myself. Are. Ya. Satisfied?”

Ceylan's tail and ears drooped a bit. Then he shook his head. “I couldn't expect you to take on a task that I would not be willing to do myself, especially not when we deem it daunting for the same reason.” He sighed, wrecking his brain for a bit. He felt a tremendous responsibility for leaving this place in the best hands possible, but an equally large pressure to remain unbound to a location like this. What to do... what to do...

Wait a second. Other viable options. He might not be sure about other viable options in this realm, but what about the other? His ears perked up a bit at the thought. “Do you know if you could locate someone that would be fit for this purpose in the realm I summoned you from and that you could bring them to the place you were summoned from, so that I may send you back and summon them in your stead? I am willing to rely on your judgment regarding whom might be suited for this task, if that means we can find someone suitable that isn't worried about being bound to a single location.”

That was the most promising option he could come up with. However, he did debate another. He wondered if it was possible to make Aegrizora (or part of the deity) himself a Shrine Guardian. Or if he could use the token to summon a follower of Aegrizora for it. He drew upon his [Religion B] knowledge as well as his knowledge as a Syncretist (Connected B – Syncretist Church) to see if there were options that he'd been missing thus far.

He was surprised when his pondering was interrupted by the sudden appearance of Indicus. He'd not realised that the realms and become so easily bridged right now, or perhaps they'd even merged again? Either way, upon getting over his initial surprise, he looked at what he'd been presented with.

“I'm not an Arcanist, but I can give you my best guess.” He said, wondering why Indicus was carrying such vile sounding stuff. However, upon his examination of it, he realised what Indicus told him about it clashed heavily with what he managed to figure out. “From what I've gathered from the tree itself, these were placed here by a white haired girl, until someone of her own kin would come and retrieve them. I'm not sure what they are, but they shouldn't be harmful, especially not in the manner you state them to be. If anything, I believe they should be beneficial. Perhaps the effects you speak of simply arose due to them being used by incompatible targets?” That's the best guess he could give.

That said, he had a question of his own. “Would you mind informing me of what happened outside of the shrine? Are there any causalities?” He was a little concerned about the victims that might've fallen during the time it took him to cleanse the tree.

Indicus listened to the priest and nodded. "You are probably correct about what it is perhaps what I saw used last night was something derivative or as you said the ones that used it were incompatible." Indicus put the vial away in a pouch on his waist.|

"Everyone is alive from what I have seen, injured and in need of a bath to clean the blood and zombie ichor off but I don't believe anyone died. There is a lot of interest in this shrine politically, all the politics is why I decided to check the shrine out and ask my question rather then stay and listen." Indicus shook his head. "I much rather fight for my life then deal with it."
Indicus sat down in front of the shrine "Thanks for answering my question, I think I might just sit and wait here for awhile if you don't mind, the atmosphere here is nice and peaceful."

First he would address those who sought to make their travels back difficult. Seeing this twisting and shifting environment as everything became increasingly more hostile was a bit unsettling, but it still paled in comparison to the hell picture scroll which Yukan had seen facing off against all of those undead. Now he would speak adjusting his voice once more as needed, to convey what he thought was appropriate for this situation.

"I believe you have a score to settle with such an a front to your authority "

He'd gesture toward Kai who was only making things more manageable with his words for Yukan to shift the attention to him instead of the whole group having to start a fight. Yukan could just sense a certain authority and resolve that Kai had, perhaps this was a situation where it was destined to be Kai's fight against these beings and maybe it was something that they should not all interfere with is possible, just the way he spoke to his 'nightmares' made Yukan feel like this was a more personal affair than he had been expecting.

"What could be more entertaining than being confronted with a mortal who claims authority over what you say is yours, and he claims is his?, I propose that you test your mettle, Fae and prove your words true, and by the same token allow this man to prove to all of us that his strong words of conviction are true."

While Yukan wasn't entirely sure if this was the right decision, he felt out of respect for Kai, his past, and his dreams that it was sounding more and more like this was something that Kai needed to deal with himself and cease control of this situation.

---
Here Yukan was again he was going to play the political game, thankfully he had been studying for times like these. It was a very predictable move for Riku to claim the credit through his glorious leadership skills for why they had succeeded, he made it very clear from the get go that he wanted the rewards that were to be reaped from the successful completion of this task that Yukan had committed to.

First Yukan listened to Tashigoto's words which sounded wise to him. He allowed him to maintain the discreteness of the situation, by maintaining a relatively neutral stance from that point onward, facing toward Riku and the others . Yukan then gave him a slight nod after he gave his piece.

"I understand." He replied quietly.

"I have no intention of allowing you or the others contributions to be forgotten." he concluded.

While he didn't particularly have evidence his hunch was that part of Tashigoto's motivation for saying this to him was that he didn't want his own credit to be left behind, this was understandable to Yukan that's just how this game worked.

Yukan looked to Gyoubu, his serious face turning to one of a bit of concern seeing just how worn the shrine maiden looked. Of course he knew that a toll had been taken on her too, never mind whatever had happened earlier with her being unable to cancel her ability, it had been that foul tree, which he was sure had drained her too never mind the undead. He listened to Gyoubu's words and also gave her a nod, to show that he understood what she was saying, of course the shrine was going to be used politically. Yukan had no intention of allowing the Masanori clan to bolster itself to that extent, this meant that he needed to choose his words well in his next announcement.

"Thank you." Yukan replied softly once more, it having multiple meanings, from her deciding to stick by his side even when he had made that arguably poor first choice to try to stand out and better his chances, and even now joining him against evil which she risked her life for.

----
Once he heard from both sides and Riku had spoken Yukan decided that now was the time to speak to the group and convey what Tashigoto and Gyoubu shared with him.
With his Leadership E + Republic of Kuridan Etiquette F Yukan rose his voice for the occasion.

"My comrades, While commander Riku speaks true that he played an essential role in this operation leading his calvary and those with him against the forces of evil, It should be said that all of you here today played an essential role. Without our diligent healers such as Shrine Maiden Gyoubu, we would have potentially lost many lives in this conflict. Our formation gave us strength, something which our leadership collaborated on. White Claw's leadership ensured support at pivotal junctures with ranged support and leadership skills with the scouts. All of you who decided to come and risk your own lives for the betterment of Kuridan who took the front lines bravely with your spears, blades, and arrows are to be commended. The wandering swordsman Ko who not only freed many of us when we were ensnared up against our enemies but also joined our ranks when he had no obligation to , he event went against the horde himself to save a woman's life. Tashigoto not only accompanied us here but he has put many resources into our operations and has given valuable advise. Indicus played an essential role in helping us find this evil to purify.

And of course there is Ceylan who was essential to restoring this Shrine and purifying the evil, everyone here today has made noble decisions and should be commended for their work for this was a grand collaboration of what we can achieve when we all work together for the good of Kuridan."

Yukan spoke with as much authority as he could muster in this moment.

"With all of that said, Ceylan willingly came here to purify this shrine of his own volition and was successful in purifying the shrine from evil. Without him our primary objective would not have been possible today. Further more anyone can see how the divine are favorable to him with the beings he is in contact with, this is a point which cannot be refuted. And finally Ceylan is a third party who has no proclaimed loyalty to any one of our clans. As a result of these compelling factors, it is of my strongest belief that he, celestials and anyone else he deems suitable who does not possess a direct affiliation to any our families are the most suitable, and fair choices to decide the future of this shrine and whose jurisdiction it shall fall under.

With that Yukan followed Gyoubu's advice to the T, the celestials and Ceylan were a third party who had no loyalty to any clan involved, so they should be neutral choices, nor was he leaving the decision up to anyone singular person. As a result of this choice, no one who had any specific clan affiliation or specific agenda should have been chosen in Yukan's mind.

"...Uhh.... Alright guess I'm getting noticed again..." Ko had become abit confused on exactly what he was suppoused to do at this point... Well, it was nice, to not be overlooked and assumed little of. Upstarts like to take glory from those who rightfully deserve it after all... But... he performed acts not for glory, but to perform them. The extraneous stuff was... Discomforting... But... He was unsure at this moment what to do...

He fell back in line, or rather admist the crowd of people, fighting over for the second, he observed the other more important people around, before giving a small shrug.

"You certainly speak alot of words, your a nobleman then? Fits from the retainers, giving glory to em and all people is suprising, to hear from one anyways." the young canine man produced a toothpick, cleaning a canine fang in his mouth. "If we get outta this alive, yea have chance to hire me if desired. Yea've seen my skill, and my boast having tutelage of a Swordmaster is no lie. I ain't for fancy stuff, so my prices are cheap and fair. Being a taught ascetic helps keep costs low yea?

...Don't skimp on good tea and we'll do plenty fine." he made his offer to the tanuki ( TheTimePiece TheTimePiece ) before considering the others in his entourage... Then looked at Paru. "Oi! Catdeer! it ain't everyday yea get a noble being kind, so get in on this! Better in this flock than one who fusses over glory!

...Actually... heh... Gloryhog.. Riding a boar... Hehehe." ( StarPrincessVal StarPrincessVal ) he snickered abit, before seeming to notice the... unpleasant smell coming off his clothes... "...I'm gonna need to get new ones... Damn ichors got all the way through..."

Aurichal considered Ceylan's proposal, his golden eyes thoughtful as he mulled over the idea. The newly sanctified Shrine of Cleansed Curses was an impressive sight, with its ancient tree trunk adorned with intricate carvings and shimmering crystals, the lush canopy above casting dappled light onto the area below. It deserved a worthy guardian to protect its newfound purity.

"It is possible, though not guaranteed," Aurichal began. "The realm I come from has many beings with various skills and talents. However, finding one both willing and suited to take on the responsibility of guarding this shrine might be challenging."

He paused, his tail flicking gently behind him, then a thought struck him. "There is a being I know who might be suitable for this task. A Shield Archon, a creature of law and goodness, dedicated to protecting what is precious and just. They are armored giants sheathed in metal from head to toe, one arm ending in a spear-like blade, the other in a massive shield. They are formidable guardians, and their presence alone is often enough to deter those with ill intent."

Aurichal's sincerity was evident, and his willingness to help alleviate Ceylan's burden was genuine. "If you trust my judgment, I can attempt to contact the Shield Archon and see if they would be willing to take on this responsibility."

Aurichal glanced at Indicus, the Dragonborn with striking blue scales, and gave him a warm, understanding smile. "You're welcome, Indicus. It's only natural to seek refuge from the chaos that often accompanies politics. I'm glad that you and the others have made it through the ordeal relatively unscathed."

He gestured to the serene surroundings of the Shrine of Cleansed Curses, with its dappled sunlight and calming energy. "You're more than welcome to stay here and enjoy the peace and tranquility that this place has to offer. The newly sanctified shrine is meant to provide solace and healing to those in need, and your presence here is a testament to its power."

As Indicus settled down near the shrine, Aurichal's gaze lingered on him for a moment before turning back to Ceylan. "I will now attempt to contact the Shield Archon, as we discussed earlier. Please take care of things here while I'm away, and I'll return as soon as possible with news."

With a final nod to both Ceylan and Indicus, Aurichal focused his mind and began the process of reaching out to the extraplanar being he had in mind. The peaceful atmosphere of the shrine seemed to bolster his efforts, and he hoped that the Shield Archon would be receptive to the idea of guarding this sacred place. As he worked, the tranquility of the shrine continued to provide a welcome respite for Indicus and the others, offering a soothing balm to their weary spirits.

The Fair Folk tilted their heads, their eyes narrowing as they observed Kai's utter disregard for their presence. They exchanged glances, a silent communication taking place between them. They had expected fear, anger, or at the very least, some form of acknowledgement. But instead, they were met with indifference.

The flying monkeys screeched and cawed in agitation, the twisted creatures baring their jagged teeth and flexing their talons menacingly. They could feel the weight of Kai's apathy, and it unnerved them.

The Male Fair Folk stepped forward, a playful yet dangerous smile on his lips. "You dare dismiss us so casually?" they questioned, their voice dripping with a mixture of amusement and malice. "You may think us inconsequential, mortal, but we are anything but."

The Female Fair Folk chimed in, their voice like the sound of rustling leaves, "Perhaps you should reconsider your stance, lest you find yourself regretting it?"

The atmosphere grew heavy as the Fair Folk and the twisted flying monkeys considered Kai's words. The standoff seemed to stretch on for an eternity, each side waiting to see who would falter first.

The flying monkeys and the Fair Folk seemed taken aback by Kai's sudden outburst. They stared at him, as if trying to decipher the meaning behind his words. In the silence that followed, the atmosphere grew tense, the air thick with anticipation.

The twisted flying monkeys shifted uncomfortably, their screeches and caws becoming less aggressive and more uncertain. They looked between Kai and the Fair Folk, their loyalty wavering.

One of the Fair Folk frowned, their features twisting with annoyance. "You dare question our authority? Your nightmares are not bound to your whims, mortal."

His words seemed to resonate with the flying monkeys, their expressions morphing from uncertainty to understanding. Slowly, they began to retreat from the Fair Folk, their loyalty to Kai rekindled.

The Fair Folk's expressions turned sour, their anger barely contained as they watched their control over Kai's nightmares slip away. But they would not admit defeat so easily. The two fae glanced at each other, a silent agreement passing between them. If they could not control Kai's nightmares, they would have to find another way to maintain their power.

As the flying monkeys and the Fair Folk stared each other down, the balance of power began to shift. It was clear that the battle for control of Kai's nightmares was far from over.

Are. Ya. Satisfied?”

The flying monkeys seemed to pause, their eyes fixed on Kai as they considered his words. Their screeches and caws quieted, replaced by an eerie silence. They seemed to be weighing their options, unsure of what to make of Kai's unwavering determination.

Finally, one by one, the flying monkeys turned their backs on the Fair Folk. Their actions signaled their renewed loyalty to Kai, their unwillingness to be swayed by the fae any longer.

The Fair Folk's expressions turned from anger to disbelief, unable to comprehend that Kai's resolute spirit had reclaimed his nightmares from their grasp. They clenched their fists, their faces contorting with rage, but they knew they had been defeated. The Fair Folk glared at Kai, their eyes burning with resentment.

First he would address those who sought to make their travels back difficult. Seeing this twisting and shifting environment as everything became increasingly more hostile was a bit unsettling, but it still paled in comparison to the hell picture scroll which Yukan had seen facing off against all of those undead. The Male and Female Fair Folk exchanged glances, their expressions a mixture of amusement and disdain. It was clear they took Yukan's words as a challenge, and they seemed to be considering the proposal. The male fae's lips curled into a sneer, his eyes narrowing as he looked at Kai.

"An interesting proposition, mortal," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "To think that this human dares to challenge our authority. It's almost laughable."

The female fae laughed mockingly, her eyes also locked on Kai. "Indeed, it would be quite entertaining to see this human attempt to prove himself against our might. But we mustn't underestimate him, dear brother. After all, he's managed to reclaim his nightmares from our grasp."

The male fae nodded, his expression growing serious. "True, sister. Very well, mortal," he addressed Kai, "we accept your challenge. Prove to us that your conviction and loyalty are as strong as you claim. Show us that you have the strength to defy us and defend what you hold dear."

"My comrades, While commander Riku speaks true that he played an essential role in this operation leading his calvary and those with him against the forces of evil, It should be said that all of you here today played an essential role. As Yukan gave his speech, the faces of the Tanuki army began to reflect a mixture of emotions. Pride, gratitude, and a sense of unity blossomed among the soldiers as their deeds and sacrifices were acknowledged. Each person named in Yukan's speech stood a little taller, their chests swelling with pride at being recognized for their contributions.

Commander Riku's expression turned sour, realizing that his attempt to claim sole credit had been thwarted. The Boar Calvary members glanced at their leader, then back at Yukan, nodding their heads in agreement.

Shrine Maiden Gyoubu, though weak from overexertion, managed a small, grateful smile as Yukan praised her efforts. Ko, the wandering swordsman, bowed his head respectfully, acknowledging Yukan's words. Indicus stood firm, pride evident in his posture as his role in the operation was recognized.

Tashigoto, standing nearby, gave Yukan an approving nod, clearly pleased with the way he had responded to Riku's brash claim. White Claw also nodded in agreement, appreciating the recognition of her leadership and the collaboration of the various forces.

As Yukan concluded his speech, emphasizing the importance of Ceylan's role in the operation and the need for neutrality in managing the shrine, a murmur of agreement spread through the Tanuki army. It was clear that Yukan's words had resonated with them, reminding them of their collective strength and the importance of working together for the greater good.

With the army's support behind him, Yukan had managed to effectively counter Riku's attempt to seize control and assert the need for a fair and unbiased approach to the shrine's guardianship. The atmosphere was tense, but the seed of unity had been planted, and the Tanuki army stood stronger and more united than before.

As a result of this choice, no one who had any specific clan affiliation or specific agenda should have been chosen in Yukan's mind.

Riku, sensing the change in the atmosphere and recognizing Yukan's skill as a leader, decides it's time to adapt. The Masanori clan's success has always hinged on their ability to be practical, logical, and to know when to change course. Swallowing his pride, Riku takes a step forward and addresses the gathered crowd.

"Yukan's words ring true," Riku says, his voice strong and clear. "We all played our part in this great undertaking, and I must acknowledge the efforts of every individual here. My initial claim may have been misguided, and I apologize for any offense I may have caused."

He turns to Yukan and bows his head slightly. "Yukan, you have proven yourself a capable leader, and your assessment of the situation is fair. In the interest of unity and the well-being of Kuridan, I, Riku of the Masanori clan, throw my support behind you and your proposal. Let us work together to ensure the Shrine of Cleansed Curses is guided by the wisdom and neutrality of Ceylan and his celestial allies."

The Tanuki army, witnessing Riku's change of heart, murmurs with surprise and approval. This act of humility and willingness to support Yukan demonstrates the qualities that have allowed the Masanori clan to succeed over the years. The sense of unity among the army grows stronger, and the atmosphere shifts from tension to cooperation.

Off to the side, largely ignored by the others, Ko, the dog swordsman, and Paru, the kiran girl, were engaged in their own conversation. Ko, with his rugged, canine features and skillful swordsmanship, stood confidently, occasionally brandishing his weapon with a playful flourish. Paru, on the other hand, seemed to glow with a gentle light, her antler-like horns and delicate features giving her an ethereal presence.

As they exchanged banter, their body language conveyed a sense of camaraderie and familiarity. Ko would lean in, his ears perked up with interest, while Paru would tilt her head, her eyes sparkling with amusement. They appeared to be enjoying each other's company, finding solace and distraction in their lighthearted exchange amid the intensity of the unfolding events.

"One." Kai suddenly declared, even he didn't know where this was coming from, but something within was sure of his declaration as he clarified. "One slash, I'll show you everything with this one strike. Nothing more, nothing less."

He chose to gamble it all on one attack as he answered their challenge, however, he seemed to be talking beyond the Fae themselves. This wasn't about them. No, this was something that he needed to do, something he had to show to the world. He was sure of it. The swordsman summoned his Will and channeled his Nightmares. Kai held out his Moonblade, but did not draw it.

'The world is a Blade.' The boss's word rang through Kai's head, but that was not the only words Kai recalled.

'The Blade is you, It is your resolve to fight manifested.' Kai recalled his father's words. Blades do not have will they can not change the world without a wielder and a wielder can not change the world without a blade.

"Abandon my doubts and become the blade." Kai muttered the next part as a mantra as he gave over everything to the blade. Not just his Will and his Nightmares, the manifestations of his resolve and fears, not just the desire for power of a blade to protect, but everything. He channeled everything, his fears, his sorrows, his resolve, his joys, his hopes, his anger, all of his strength, and everything else he could manage he decided to temper into a blade, he chose for this moment to become the blade, as he took a stance. A stance without imperfections.

It was at this moment, that Kai closed his eyes. He did not choose his target, as he let the world decide what this blade would strike at. It didn't matter if he struck the Fae or if he struck nothing. If the Moon Blade shattered or if his body broke apart. Kai had chosen to give himself to the world with a simple wish.

"Let us take the first step on the Path of Heaven."

With that Kai who had tempered himself into a blade and let himself be wielded by the world itself, as he drew the Moonblade and unleashed his single strike. Whatever happens. He would have no regrets.

Having a chance at finding someone willing was better than a certainty of binding someone unwilling to this place. Ceylan was convinced of that much. “That sounds like a good option, I'll trust your judgement.” He replied. It wasn't entirely without a shred of doubt, as 'law' and 'good' weren't always compatible. Ceylan would always chose the good over the law. Even so, this option was likely the best they'd get.

He looked over at Indicus. “I'm glad to hear that.” A battle like this, without casualties? That was a small miracle of its own. That said, Ceylan did still wonder. “If you don't mind saying, who did you say you saw using those potions again? The white haired girl that I summoned, along with the swordsman, reminded me a little of the woman I saw putting them here. Perhaps she might know of them?” He offered.

With that out of the way, it was time to get that Shield Archon in here. Honestly, Ceylan's plan was to cancel the summoning on Aurichal so the latter would return to his home-world, where he'd fetch the Shield Archon and bring him to a place where Ceylan could summon the Shield one from in Aurichal's stead. However, it seemed like Aurichal had some other, less convoluted method, so for now, Ceylan just observed. Or maybe it was like he thought and Aurichal would desummon himself? He honestly as a little lost on what to do whilst Aurichal was focussing, having only told him to take care of things whilst he'd return. Ah, return, so he wasn't going to be desummoned. Right.

So... Ceylan looked around. The shrine really was impressing, right now. It was difficult to believe this was in the same awful place he was at mere moments ago. He walked over to the entrance of the shrine, to take a peak outside. Now that Indicus has shown him how easily it was to get in and out again, he wanted to quickly check if everyone was indeed alright out there. Still, he didn't want to leave the shrine altogether, not whilst he was still waiting to hear from Aurichal and his 'Shield Archon' ally, that might be their future Shrine Guardian.

Indicus looked over to the priest and shrugged, "I don't know exactly who was behind these potions the first time only that the woman you saved. Sawazuki was one of the victims of the substance as for who could have put it in the tree, I was trying to follow the trail of that witch the farmers spoke of before Sawazuki was stabbed and this whole ordeal happened but like you, I have no description."

Indicus's eyes lit up as he seemed to remember something, "Now that I think about it I believe what was used in the assassination attempt and at the farm is slightly different from what I got from the tree though both resonate with me they felt slightly different from each other. Anyway it wouldn't hurt to ask I want to find out who this mysterious witch is and what she knows about me." Indicus shook his head before remembering the cruel cloth wrapped dagger on his belt making note to figure what it was and where it came from. "I will get to the bottom of this." Indicus muttered to himself

Firstly, It seemed like the Fae had taken Yukan's words to heart, anyone knew that some Fae could be just as prideful about their perceived racial tree superiority just as any clan in Kuridan could about their stories of legendary lineage, and it looked like it was working to the groups' advantage, Kai just seemed to exude some kind of intensity that he spoke true with his words, and that this was personal and there was some kind of greater aspiration there that even if Yukan did not know the man personally, he did know that letting a man face his own challenges was an honorable and just act where appropriate. Yukan would look out at that situation every now and again and it was clear that Kai was ready to rumble on that front when he mentioned one slash. All Yukan could hope was that his decisions and faith in Kai to fulfill whatever it was Kai was getting at was going to lead them to their freedom.
---

Next Yukan felt a sense of relief wash over him as he had been carefully monitoring the situation with his speech, no one seemed to be offended which was a very good thing. He had managed to acknowledge everyone there and their efforts to stay that everyone had contributed in some way, even those without prestige, much like how Yukan felt when he first started, they had shown their bravery for Kuridan by willing to lay their lives on the line to save the innocent, and that Yukan found to be extremely admirable. He knew very well speeches like these could be an absolute mine field if anyone felt slighted or disrespected who was important enough, you could never be too careful with politics like these. At the end of the day Yukan knew that he would need to further hone his craft and master it, if he had any hopes of his greater aspirations coming into fruition with what he felt deep down must be actualized to better the world..Every small step was a step toward that goal.

What Yukan wasn't perhaps expecting from someone like Riku was just how humble he managed to make himself seem, that was a skill in it's own right which was very valuable in this culture. First and foremost Yukan felt that he needed to respond to Riku as he was one of the most important other leader members who was there.

He responded with the head lowering with a slight bow with Republic of Kuridan Etiquette F so that it was in proper form and height for the relationship of their rank and age.
"I am humbled by your words, thank you for your support in this decision."

Yukan replied as respectfully as he could. Thinking he should keep it at that. While it had crossed his mind to further praise Riku, he felt it might come off as a bit disingenuous given Yukan knew Riku knew full well how Riku had made sure they weren't exactly off on the best foot prior to this.
----
When he heard the other commentary coming from Ko Yukan almost found himself chuckling but managed to keep the same down to earth business tone he usually kept. He realized that, was probably a fair assessment Ko hadn't really seen Yukan outside of these extremely formal social and focused events, between the crisis management leadership and speeches, all of which required a lot of speaking.

Yukan then turned to Ko. "Matatsu Ko." He said using the formal, giving a slight bow of respect.

"You have acted bravely and selflessly on more than one occasion, and have saved lives not only with your blade but also with your perception and you have surely brought honor to your family. I would be honored to have you in my employment for future tasks. I will make sure to put a good word in for you in the Koyake Clan as well. for your heroic deeds."

"As for your assessment, I certainly have noble blood, I would not call myself a member of the Koyake clan if this was not a fact." Yukan replied.

Of course this wasn't exactly the same as being in the in crowd, but if Yukan could further his own allotted resources and influence he could certainly make it so. Thankfully he wasn't the sort to get offended over such banter with the jokes that were made. He then looked back toward what was transpiring with Kai briefly, it was still all very much on the mind.

Paru stared at the mutt as he spoke to her. Finally, she shook her head and stifled a smirk, then walked up to join him. He had a frustrating charm about him that wasn't entirely off putting, even if he did continue to refer to her as 'catdeer'. Turning to address Yukan, she tipped her head courteously. She had never spoken to a noble before. She'd barely spoken to anyone outside her village. Perhaps it was time she did so. "Greetings, Noble. I am Paru, a traveler from a village hidden deep the forests of Kuridan. I seek to learn as much of the rest of the country as I can. I offer you my sword, that I might travel with you and your companions, if you should find such an arrangement agreeable." She had no idea where she was or how she had gotten here. Getting back on track with her mission was her number one priority and traveling with companions seemed like the best option to make that happen.

"Yea can call me as yea please, point the way and my sword shall cut a path. Wield me as you would one." He spoke befote giving a long bow to the man, he had respect to give this fellow... As long as he got his rewards and dues. Food would be nice, hes been doing this with an empty stomache and he worries his stomache shall start growling... Paru's approach brought him smirking.

"Good tah see yea have good sense eh catdeer? Maybe yea will will get better with the sword to challenge me while working with him! Hahaha!" The young canid male flicked his sword downwards to his side, laying a flesh line of black ichor across the water behind him, the mithril blade now shineing in the light once more.

"...So... How do we get outta here Daimyo? Or do we still have business in this place? Our exit is likely through nee foes... And..." he paused to look at that white haired fellow... The human talking big...

"Oi is that idiot gonna cut his own throat!?"

The Fair Folk brother and sister exchanged a glance, their expressions a mix of amusement and curiosity. The male Fae raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Kai's bold declaration. The female Fae smirked, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. They seemed to be taking Kai's challenge seriously, despite their playful demeanor.

"Very well," the male Fae said, his voice dripping with arrogance. "Let's see what you've got, mortal."

The female Fae simply nodded, a mischievous grin on her face, as they both stepped back to give Kai space to execute his one decisive strike.

The flying monkeys, sensing the tension in the air, began to circle above, their wings flapping rapidly as they watched the scene below unfold. They screeched and cawed, their talons clenching and unclenching in anticipation. They seemed to be waiting, eager to see what would happen next and how their fate would be decided by the outcome of this single, fateful slash.

"Oi is that idiot gonna cut his own throat!?"

The trio of Yukan, Ko, and Paru couldn't help but be drawn into the unfolding confrontation between Kai and the Fair Folk. As they conversed, their expressions conveyed a mix of emotions, ranging from concern and disbelief to curiosity and cautious hope. They huddled together, their voices low and urgent, discussing the risks and potential outcomes of Kai's bold challenge.

Yukan, the composed leader of the group, observed the scene with a keen eye, attempting to discern Kai's plan and determine the best course of action. Ko, the dog swordsman, couldn't help but express his disbelief at the situation, his canine features betraying his worry. Meanwhile, Paru, the kiran girl, appeared intrigued yet concerned, her eyes flicking between the intense standoff and her companions as they exchanged ideas.

As the three continued their hushed conversation, the atmosphere around them grew increasingly tense. The weight of Kai's single-slash gamble hung heavily in the air, and they knew that the outcome could dictate the fate of not only Kai but their entire group.

Riku, atop his dire boar, approached Yukan, Ko, and Paru with a respectful demeanor. His previous intensity had been replaced by a sense of humility and acceptance. As he closed in, the trio paused their conversation to turn their attention to Riku.

Yukan, recognizing the significance of Riku's change in attitude, offered a respectful bow in response. His posture and form were precise, reflecting his understanding of the complex social dynamics at play in the Republic of Kuridan. As Yukan lowered his head, he addressed Riku, expressing his gratitude for the support.

Yukan said, "I am humbled by your words, thank you for your support in this decision."

Riku's acceptance of Yukan's proposal and his show of humility were not lost on the rest of the army, who watched the four talking and the final confrontation brewing between Kai and the Fair Folk. They all watched the exchanges with interest, noting the shift in power dynamics among the gathered forces. In this moment, it seemed that cooperation and unity had won over pride and competition, setting the stage for a more harmonious collaboration.

"Abandon my doubts and become the blade." Kai muttered the next part as a mantra as he gave over everything to the blade. Not just his Will and his Nightmares, the manifestations of his resolve and fears, not just the desire for power of a blade to protect, but everything. With that Kai who had tempered himself into a blade and let himself be wielded by the world itself, as he drew the Moonblade and unleashed his single strike. Whatever happens. He would have no regrets.

As Kai channeled every aspect of himself into the blade, his stance was flawless, and his determination unwavering. Whispering his mantra and allowing the world to guide his strike, Kai prepared to take the first step on the Path of Heaven.

With a swift motion, he drew the Moonblade and unleashed his single, all-encompassing strike. As the blade swung through the air, it shattered into countless glittering silver motes of light. The moon, a reflection of the sun's light, had become a symbol of Kai's desires, and in turn, the Moonblade had become a reflection of his very essence.

As the shards of the blade dispersed, the flying monkeys, previously a manifestation of Kai's darker dreams and trauma, responded to the call of his pure intent. They soared through the air, descending upon the Fair Folk with newfound purpose and ferocity.

A fierce battle unfolded, the flying monkeys attacking relentlessly, forcing the Fair Folk into a fighting retreat. Surrounded by the whirlwind of silver light and the ferocity of the flying monkeys, the Fair Folk had no choice but to fall back through the portal they had tried to control. The portal alas, a horrible wound inflected on Ko and Aurichal did not close. Rather its color became milky and mute, no longer bound to any particular interchange. Kai was left victorous, standing among the remnants of his shattered Moonblade.

His single strike, a reflection of his entire being, had achieved the impossible, turning his darkest nightmares into the driving force behind his victory over the Fair Folk. As the silver motes of light began to fade, they marked the beginning of his journey on the Path of Heaven.

Right.

Ceylan peered outside the shrine entrance, taking in the scene before him. The battlefield was now calm, the tension dissipating as the Fair Folk had retreated through the portal. He saw Kai standing among the remnants of his shattered Moonblade, a new sense of resolve in his eyes. The others seemed to be recovering from the intense battle, tending to the wounded and ensuring that everyone was accounted for. A small miracle, indeed, that there were no casualties in such a fierce confrontation.

As Ceylan marveled at the transformation of the once-bleak landscape, Aurichal continued to focus on the portal, weaving his celestial energy into it. The portal began to shimmer and change, now connected to the realm of the Shield Archon. Within moments, a host of celestials, led by a resplendent Shield Archon, emerged from the portal. Their presence brought an air of hope and righteousness to the shrine, as if a divine light now filled the once-dark place.

The Shield Archon approached Ceylan and Aurichal, his expression solemn but kind. He had heard the call for aid and was willing to become the guardian of the shrine. Ceylan felt a sense of relief wash over him; the decision to trust Aurichal had paid off, and they had found a willing protector for the sacred site.

Aurichal turned to Ceylan, nodding in satisfaction. "It is done. The Shield Archon and his host of celestials will guard this shrine, ensuring its sanctity and protection." The celestial emissary then took a step back, allowing Ceylan to address the Shield Archon and solidify their agreement.

As Ceylan conversed with the Shield Archon, the others began to gather near the entrance of the shrine, curious about the new arrivals. A sense of hope and unity filled the air, as the people of Kuridan now had a powerful ally in the fight against the forces of darkness. The shrine, once a place of despair, had become a beacon of hope for all.

The plot thickened. “Sawazuki was..?” He sighed. “She might have gotten more tangled-up within the foul ends of this than we first feared, if she was harmed by an otherwise pure potion. I shall see to her soon.” Sadly enough, Indicus wasn't great at explaining things. “My apologies, I don't understand. The assassination attempt on Sawazuki was a different liquid? What do you mean, they resonate with you? By mysterious witch, are you talking about Sawazuki again? I'm sorry if I'm asking a lot, but I'm afraid I did not manage to be completely filled in with events upon my arrival and I've been out of the loop ever since.”

He decided to watch outside just in time to see things wrap up. Truth be told, he wasn't even sure what things were wrapping up, seeing another stranger and some folk that were leaving. Upon confirming, with his own eyes, that there weren't any victims, his tail would speak in volumes. It was wagging up a storm behind him. His otherwise calm and priestly appearance was having contrasted by the fifth limb going wild.

It continued wagging when he noticed the appearance of the Shield Archon and heard the latter confirm he was willing to become a Shrine Guardian. He bowed deeply. “You have my sincerest gratitude for taking this task upon yourself.” He said, feeling intense relief at finding a good solution to his conundrum. After asking for the Shield Archon's name, or at least something to call him by, Ceylan sealed the deal. Chosen route: [Permanent Celestial Defender [Shield Archon] - The shrine is an artefact of power and instead of enhancing your own personal power, you may instead allow one celestial being remain as a defender against invaders, using the Shrine as a Magical Item that takes on the burden of the summons with a Duration Limiter of 3; Permanent.]

Once that was done, he turned towards Aurichal and bowed to him as well. “Once again, I thank you for your aid and am humbled by your willingness to have listened to my summoning. Without you, none of this would have been possible. Perhaps our paths may cross again one day, but for now, I shall return to you your freedom.” Ceylan spoke, giving Aurichal a chance to reply before cancelling the Duration on his summoning and letting Aurichal return to where he came from.

Then, he turned to those outside the shrine. “The shrine has been successfully purified, and [insert Shield Archon name here] has graciously offered to become its guardian. Now, this realm may recover fully and be a safe heaven for those looking for protection in the future.” He declared, his tail showing how happy he was with the outcome, more so than his tone voice could do. “To all of you, thank you for aiding me.” He said, with a bow to the rest of them.

Then, he headed over to Yukan. “I'm afraid must apologise and reintroduce myself.” He said, taking a deep breath. “I am Ceylan, Bishop of the Syncretist Faith. Some also know me as the Wandering Saint, Hero of Aegrizora or Holy Child. I was on my way to the Holy City of Vegard, in the North-East, of which I was intended to become patron. However, my fellow priest, Longfeather, asked for my presence here and asked me to keep a low profile. The latter is why I failed to properly introduce myself, for which I owe you my sincerest apologies.” He said, giving an apologetic bow. “Please forgive me for withholding such information, even though I was relying on your aid through-out all of this.” The latter made him feel genuinely bad. Like... a bad dog. His tail had stopped wagging.

Even so. “Although I am unworthy of it, after my previous withholding of information, I wish to ask even more of you. Your army made me realise that I have no experience healing and aiding armies in the midst of battle, so I have nothing but the utmost respect for those who do.” He looked at Gyoubu and Riku's healer. “With your permission and the permission of commander Riku, I would love to learn from their experiences.” He looked at Riku as well for his last sentence.

That was one thing he could cross off of his list. Then, he headed for Paru and Ko. “Once again, I apologise for having summoned you as I did. I was unsure of how else to aid the both of you and feared you might be overrun by the undead otherwise.” He then turned to Paru in particular. “Forgive me if I am meddling with things beyond my purview, but mister...” Wait. Had the lizard ever told his name? He realised they'd never been properly introduce. What did others call him again..? Had he even heard. “My apologies, I do not seem to recall the Dargonborn's name. However, he has collected some sort of silver potions from the tree, which offer some beneficial properties to those that utilise them. In the short moment I was this Shrine's Guardian, before relegating these duties, I saw a white haired girl place them. Considering your sudden appearance, might you at all be related to it? My only other guess would be miss Sawazuki, who seems deeply entwined with this as well.”

On the topic of Swazuki, it was time for him to question her. He'd look around to see where he could find her, but as he was doing so, he'd use [Divine Healing C] on the wounded within both Yukan's and Riku's armies. Now that there was no need to hold back, having given away his identity, there was no need to watch anyone suffer without doing something about it. (He'd recast at D and E grade if that would be needed to get to everyone.)

Upon reaching Sawazuki, he would first ensure she was in good health, but then he'd speak surprisingly firmly (persuasion F) even though it was with understanding (empathy D). “Ma'am, I believe that out of everyone, you are the one that knows most about what really happened here. Please, tell us what you know and I will do what I can to ensure you will be treated fairly, regardless of the level or type of involvement you had in it.”

Paru smirked at Ko's words. "I do not think I would be much of a challenge, Mutt. You fight like a man possessed. Though if being haunted gives results like that, I may have to try it myself." Talking to nobles and people of renown had never been her thing, so the loud mouthed scruffy dog man was welcome solace. And the fact that he could swing a sword was all the better. None of the coarser personalities of her village had been much for combat.

She nodded politely to Ceylan as he addressed her and Ko "You have nothing to apologize for, Hijiri. You did what was necessary and I am alive because of it. That is all that matters. The ends justify the means." She listened intently as he spoke to her about the strange substance they found in the tree. "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I can't enlighten you in this. I don't know anything about such potions. I'm not even sure how I got here. One moment I was travelling the wilds of Kuridan, the next I was here and your party was before me." He intrigued her. She would need to ask about his spiritual belief system when she got the chance. Surely her sister would be interested in learning of the religions of Kuridan.
