back ground:

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the crumbling stone walls of an abandoned chapel deep in the woods. The air was heavy, tinged with the scent of rain-soaked earth and the faint trace of incense, remnants of a time when this place had known warmth and light. Now, it was a forgotten ruin—a perfect hiding spot for those who needed to disappear.

Inside, flickering candlelight revealed the worn figure of a young noble, his once pristine attire stained with dirt and torn at the edges. His eyes, usually sharp and guarded, now held a glimmer of something unfamiliar: desperation mixed with a hint of fear. He had spent countless nights in this very spot, haunted by memories of a night that had changed him forever—a night when everything he knew was torn away, leaving him alone and broken.

But he wasn’t alone that night. There was another, a girl with a presence that had been like a fleeting ray of light in his darkness. Her name was Katia Campion. He hadn’t spoken her name aloud in years, and yet, it was a name that never truly left his thoughts. The bond they had formed had been brief, but powerful. She was a kindred spirit, lost in her own way, but together, they had found something neither could explain.

Now, all these years later, he had returned to the place where they last saw each other. He wasn’t sure if he was chasing ghosts or seeking closure. The quiet rustle of the wind through broken windows and the distant sound of footsteps broke his reverie. He tensed, gripping the edge of the stone altar as he turned to face whoever—or whatever—had entered the chapel.

In the dim light, a familiar figure emerged from the shadows. Time had changed her, but there was no mistaking the girl who had once been his only refuge. Katia had returned, but her eyes told a story as complicated as his own.

“What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice a low, guarded whisper. His heart raced with a mix of dread and longing, unsure of whether this reunion would bring closure—or drag them both back into the darkness.
