Eye of the Cat

Hey all.


This Lunar charm is odd. It lets you see dematerialized spirits, which is great. It also allows you to succeed at any perception based check that'd be otherwise impossible to even roll. My question is, can you think of any such rolls? The only time I can think of there being a perception related item that you don't actually get to roll for would be against the Solar perfect-disguise charm. But anything else, even spotting an invisible guy that's motionless, allows a roll, if at a rediculously high penalty. So, can you think of when this aspect of this charm might apply?

Regarding invisible creatures, I don't think I'd allow my players an awareness check, unless they knew someone invisible was near. So... If the Exalt didn't know that there was an invisible peeping Tom in her (his?) bedroom, then activating this charm would allow a roll. In my games, that is.

Actually, per the RAW, spotting an invisible creature is rediculously easy. It's only like a 2 point external penalty, I think. Of course, you aren't spotting them, you're spotting secondary effects of their passing. But still.

Well, as much logical sense this makes, I don't think it's congruent w/ the rules. But, let's say it is. That means that while the guy stands still, Eye of the Cat would reveal him. But, if he moved, Eye of the Cat would therefore fail, and the Lunar would have to rely on his other senses. Is this the intent of the charm?

Eye of the Cat wouldn't fail. If he is invisible and he moves, its not needed. A better example of a roll you wouldn't normally be able to roll: A mechanical spy-fly perched on the bottom of a window sill. It tiny, doesn't move and is completely hidden from line of sight. Eye of the Cat lets you roll any way.


Also, it is not just -2, it an additional -2 penalty added to whatever the St feels appropriate.

I'll answer your question with a question: Can the Charm see through walls? If so, then yes.

Well, you may or may not. All it would do is let you roll your Awareness, you may or may not get any general sensory information based on the result.

You're right, it wouldn't. But here's what would happen. The guy standing still is impossible to see, so Eye of the Cat would reveal him. If that guy moves, he becomes possible to see, only extremely difficult (as you noted, -2 and more to their perception roll). Eye of the Cat would therefore not work on the moving target, because they are no longer IMPOSSIBLE, just IMPOROBABLE. Ergo, moving and making it easier to spot the target would actually make it harder.
