The title is misleading, I'm afraid.


STing is an art in Exalted and I need practice. I've always believed that the best ST is the one who pretends to have a master plan but is really just excellent at providing plot hooks and creating stories by having organic characters making the world feel real. A player-driven story is every bit as interesting and satisfying as running a pre-written module, often far more so. If I can make the world you rampage feel organic, and make your goals feel like something you're achieving instead of just saying "I do it, it happens", then I'm doing my job right.


So, to that end, I'm going to run a vanilla Exalted game. Solars preferred, other Exalted accepted with sort of a skewed glance in their direction. Use Errata'd char-gen. I'm not allowing any custom charms at char-gen, though they may be allowed later. Further house rules are included below.

-Artifact corrections (Armour artifacts now range from 1-3, not 1-5. Adding special powers to them will increase their cost. In addition, only one 5-dot artifact per person at char-gen)


-Craft is now one skill (Each dot of Craft gets you one of the standard elemental crafts [Water, Earth, etc.] as a specialty, a la Linguistics, and you apply your craft rating to all of them. You can purchase other craft forms [Magitech, etc.] as specialties.)


-Free Ox-Body Technique with each dot of Essence. The maximum number of these is still the lower of your Stamina/Resistance. The exception to this is that you get at least one free, so even if your Resistance is 0, you still get one free Ox-Body.


-We're using a Conviction Flaw fix: You break faith with your Motivation within a scene, you can't use it for the scene. You break faith with your Intimacies, you get increased cost for a scene.


-One free spell with sorcery initiation charms.


I'm leaving the vote for what direction to set it in until next week, at which point I will confirm it and start spinning out a setting. Characters will be selected on the 4th. You must have a character sheet done by then if you want to be selected. Sorry, I'd normally be willing to accept people on the basis of how awesome their concepts are, but, truth be told, people have caused games to die in the past by agreeing to join, then never writing up a character and saying "Go on without me". I can start earlier if enough good concepts and sheets are in before then. It won't be before the 28th, though, since the direction won't even be selected before then, so take your time. I'd like to have people who can post once a day, though the game may or may not reach this pace. As long as people can at least check in and put in a post if it calls for it, though, it keeps the game from stalling.


So, to repeat in summary:

-Solars preferred, others allowed if you wow me.


-No custom charms at char-gen.

By Vanilla Exalted, I mean "You are superheroes, go be awesome". That is the theme; no forced direction, just a world filled with plot hooks, there for you to save, exploit, conquer, or destroy, as you see fit. No big changes from the setting as presented, no huge alterations, no warping of the playground. The Scarlet Empress is not secretly a Solar, Chejop Kejak hasn't suddenly never existed and therefore totally warped the timeline, the Yozis aren't already free and mucking up your shit, etc.


In short, traditional Exalted stylistics in the setting you're familiar with.

You are a bastard, making us choose the Direction. I've got character concepts for all corners of Creation, which makes it darn hard to pick one. It's tempting to say East, simply because I haven't seen a game run there for a long time. But I'm still going for the South, West being a close second.


By Vanilla Exalted, do you mean core book only, no Ink Monkeys/Glories Charms, or just that you're aiming primarily for Solars?
 
*Clarifications on what you mean by "vanilla": is it good ol' adventures and saving Creation?


*How many players will you take?


*How intense will the game be? I can't manage 1 post/day most of the time except during holidays or on weekends.
 
Just so it's easy for anyone coming by later, I'm gonna just say "Clarifications updated" whenever I answer a question and put up notes in the first post.
 
Btw, I voted East as a matter of preference, but if we end up doing a different one, I'll go with South as a close second.

The problem with the Center is that your entire group needs to be designed around being careful and covert, and needs a darn good premise to avoid being wiped out by the manifold things there which would want them dead. Terry Skullkicker in his orciahlcum fullplate will drag you to your deaths pretty fast. The Center is great for themed games, less so as a place to toss players into.


Seeing as how South is pretty far ahead, I'm going to go ahead and throw in my barebones concept for a jian-wielding Eclipse, pursuing the truths of ancient secrets and superweapons even as he turns his eyes back to Paragon, wondering if it really is force, not diplomacy, that is needed to create a better world.
 
Threw my wait behind South. As ever, my lame fanboy self would prefer a mute daughter of Adorjan, but failing that a Zenith-Caste Righteous Devil user would be sweet -- what kind of desert campaign lacks a gunslinger? Hopefully you'll let me use one of the rewrites that aren't totally broke.
 
I'm from the tundra, so I'll give it up for the North. And, I have a question. How does one submit a character sheet, and in what form(file format, if applicable) do you want it?

I'm considering a night cast expert at forging fake identities for him/herself. Walks the world, helps people with problem by impersonating officials or other professionals.

Thing is, Righteous Devil does not actually work as written. I mean, yeah, you can resolve all the rolls and that, but a bunch of charms are extremely wonky, interact with the rules badly, some are overpowered, and some are grotesquely weak. If the hack I'm asking for isn't so much custom charms as it is 'make this style function' charms. If I can't do this, I'll probably go with another concept.
 
Well, I hate making exceptions since it's liable to get other asking to make exceptions. All the same, I'm not cold-hearted, so if you're really set on it, link me and I'll take a look.
 
Hm. I'm also considering playing a Night Caste/ghost hunter/priest of Endings/Sidereal patsy/Dynastic scion hiding out from her family/wearer of a thousand masks... :roll:

What would you think about an unsurpassed sanxian in conjunction with Silver-Voiced Nightingale Style? The Sanxian provides a plus 2 success to all performance rolls, and since that martial art form requires a performance of two, do you think they would work together?
 
@Cap: You can just do one post when quoting; just merge 'em into one post.


An Unsurpassed Sanxian just adds two successes to a roll, it doesn't actually give you the requisite dots. In any situation you make a Performance roll to perform with it, it adds successes. In any other situation, it's basically a very durable club made from the soul of a very unfortunate musician. It doesn't allow you to qualify for anything.

Alright, given the number of votes up there, it seems pretty clear the majority wants the South. I don't even know if our forum gets the regular population numbers to upturn this, and I'd hope no-one would be upset by me calling it there.


As such, I'm gonna declare early on the poll: The game's in the South. Jungles, desert, and volcanoes are in your future.
