Realistic or Modern Eternal Enchantment: A Love Cursed (1 x 1 )

It was late winter when Cecelia received the new of her grandmother's passing. She barely knew the woman, but losing a relative was never easy. The funeral was the first time she'd seen her parents in years. They made awkward small talk, had tearful hugs, and made false promises to spend more time together. After the funeral though, they went on there seperate ways, for a few weeks at least.

Cecelia had mostly put the sadness of losing her estranged grandmother behind her, but once evening after work, she got an unexpected call from her mother. It was explained to her that her grandmother had apparently left Cecelia something. At the reading of the will, Cecelia was shocked to discovered that she had been left a small sum of money, as well as her house. Apparently the mortgage was already paid for. Cecelia's first thought was to sell the house, but as she received the paperwork she thought about it more. Her lease was about to be up on her apartment, and she could use a change of pace.

It was mid-spring when she packed up her things, and made the drive to the very small town that her grandmother had spent her entire life in. Cecelia hadn't been there herself since she was a young child, but her mother had given her fairly detailed written directions. Apparently navigational apps had issues finding this town. It took much longer to find the 'Welcome to Norwich' sign than she had expected, but it was still late afternoon when she pulled into the driveway.

She climbed out of the car, and looked up at what would be her new home. It was cute, but small. Only one story, but it was pretty close to the center of town, so that made up for it a bit. The walls were a tan colored stone, and a dark roof. The dark red front door was frames by lanterns, and there was a small window in the center of it.

It certainly looked incredibly old fashioned, but that aligned with Cecelia's limited memory of the general vibe of the entire town. She let out a heavy sigh, heading back to the trunk of her car. She's wished she'd convinces a friend to help her move her stuff, but she hadn't brought a lot of it, knowing that her grandmother's home was still mostly furnished, and her friends hadn't really been interested in making such a drive.

She pulled out a box labeled 'clothes' and carried it up to the front door. She had to carefully balance the box in one arm as she unlocked the door. She flicked on a light, and took in the sight of the living room at greeted her. It wasn't huge, but was larger than she expected. Many decorations were still in place, there were two small emerald green couches facinf each other with a coffee table between them, a bookshelf still full of books, and a fireplace still full of ash.

She began piling up her boxes next to the couches. Once everything was inside the house, she wiped sweat from her brow on the back of her sleeve. She took a breath as she considered beginning the unpacking process, but she was much more interested in exploring the town. She glanced out the window. The weather was still rather nice, and it seemed like she had a decent amount of daylight left. So, she left the house, locked her door, and headed down the sidewalk that lead towards the part of town that hosted the shops.

Albert Woods, though he was still getting used to that name, surveyed the pump house with a resigned expression. The small stone building sat about fifty feet from the main edifice of Steinhaus, and was made of the same grey stone that gave the old building its name. Unlike the main building however, the roof, split shingles, was showing definite signs of neglect, and the mortar between the stones was starting to crumble. He had left this project too long, and the ravages of the past winter had left him with even more work than he had expected. Fortunately he had managed to collect a fairly extensive library of skills over the course of his lifetime, and nothing that needed to be done was beyond his skills. He was going to have to get supplies though. Supplies meant going into town, and going into town meant people. Albert wasn't a fan of interacting with people, he had lost that particular desire sometime in his first century of life. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate people and their abilities, but they had this excessive desire to 'get to know' people. Albert didn't make that mistake anymore, once was enough.

A couple of phone calls and an internet order later Albert was certain that everything he needed would be ready for him to pick up in one trip to town. Changing out of his work clothes, Albert put on one of his informal suits, what the modern world seemed to call business casual. He knew that the townsfolk thought him odd for his seeming age not wearing jeans and t-shirts, but that wasn't his style. Moving to the garage, he looked longingly at the motorcycle sitting in the third bay, but turned to the first bay and the old truck sitting there. Backing the truck out, he closed the garage and then hooked up the trailer, making certain of the proper connections were in place before climbing back in and heading into town. If he was lucky, he could get everything loaded with plenty of time to have a leisurely meal and get back to his Steinhaus with plenty of time to unload before he lost the light.

A couple of hours later, Albert had all of his purchases loaded onto the trailer and was considering his situation. The truck and trailer combination wouldn't fit easily into the lots of any of the places he preferred to dine, but then again he wasn't really in that much of a hurry. None of the supplies he had loaded absolutely had to be unloaded if he did decide to take his time and lost the light... Shrugging to himself, Albert locked the truck and turned his steps towards the center of town. It wasn't very far at all, and if he remembered correctly, the cook at Nevil's, June he thought her name was, made fresh pies. That would be worth a bit of a walk.

As he made his way towards the center of town, Albert noticed a car in the drive of the Ashton house. That was strange, since he didn't think that the old woman had had any heirs, at least one that she would leave her house to. He had avoided the woman studiously, something about her bothering him at least as much as he bothered regular people. More than once he had thought he had detected a hint of Power about her, but he had never been able to be certain. Of course, it might not be an heir, someone might have purchased the house from her estate. Either way, it was not his concern. Albert didn't concern himself with people. It was, easier that way.

Lavenderdrops Lavenderdrops (Well, they're both in town. Will they meet?)
