Enemies of Eternity

Gatekeepers are evil.

Gatekeepers are wicked.

Gatekeepers are merciless.

They killed your friends. They killed your family. And they will kill you too unless you do something to stop it.

There are many dimensions in this universe. In between these dimensions is a place that is called just that: The In Between. And the race that protect, no, that keep you from journeying beyond, that keep you from being free, are called the Gatekeepers. Your job? Kill them.

Do you remember the stories about the time when humans were peaceful? When the lands were fruitful instead of destroyed and left in rubble? When nobody knew the horrors of a Gatekeeper... Do you take comfort in thinking of a time like that? The Gatekeepers took it away. And there must... be... justice...

If you choose to join the Academy Against Gates, an injection is required. It could possibly kill you. Or it may give you powers beyond imaginable. You will be a hero. Held in glory. One day they will tell stories about you. The brave heroes that destroyed the Gatekeepers and brought peace to our world once more...

Do you not want that?

Feel free to start your post from anywhere. I only want your post to end with the end of the speech.

The AAG - Everywhere yet nowhere.

The loud mumble, the rumble, the noise of humans far and wide, small and tall. A warning that the new year has come, ready or not. All over the AAG's campus students scattered around like little ants. Some exploring the campus, others getting ready for a grand adventure with there friends and some just trying to get a little more shut eye. While they all varied in size, build, goals, personality, gender and everything else imaginable. Every last human was here for the same reason. To kick some Gate Keeper butt.

The time was 8:15, the time the doors close is 8:30. Those late will be shut out of the school and not allowed to come back in. Those who are late could be seen making a mad dash to the large stone doors and into the school. A hiss, followed by a crackle, came from the intercoms located all around the school. A man's voice boomed though them, loud enough for everyone to hear awake to hear. "Hello, hello, hello students. Both returning and freshmeat. Hehe, food humor. All students are to report to the auditorium by 8:57 for a mandatory speech given by the headmaster himself. Yay!" The sound of a door slamming open came from the intercom, followed by the voice of another man, his words could not be made out though. "What do you mean he imploded? Ah son of a-" Then, with a crackle followed by an awkward silence, the intercom shut off. Students resumed there time wasting activities, some even began heading to the auditorium.

--8:54--

The auditorium was filled to the brim with students. Wall to wall, the space was filled with students standing a rubbing against each other. The school didn't have enough chairs to fit everyone, so the students stood like anchovies, pressed closely together as they waited for the headmaster. The auditorium quickly filled with the idle chatter that melded together to make noise. Noise so loud it was hard to hear yourself think. The voices began to hush almost as soon as a man, tall, clad in black, stepped on stage. The man stood at the podium and waited for a short while, until the noise turned to silence. The man tapped the microphone once to test it. From the speakers came a loud boom, the microphone was working. "Hello, hello, hello students." The voice was the same one from the intercom only a few minutes ago.

"First things first, I am not the headmaster. The headmaster is currently out solving a problem. His cape seemed to stop perpetually billowing heroically in the wind, so he is currently working with our top scientists to fix it. Rest easy. His cape will billow once more. Beside that, I am here in his steed to give you the entrance speech, fun. My name is Jeff, and let me be the first to welcome you to the AAG, Academy Against Gates." Many in the crowd began to clap, and Jeff waited for silence to fall before speaking again. His speech consisted mostly of an introductory to the school, student life, rules surrounding the school, a few witty remarks about his fellow co-workers and a story of a quite particular bowel movement that happened the night before. Then there was this.

"And I will tell you what! If I had a penny for every time I was stabbed like that I would be a rich man! But, my love life aside. All of you who are joining the school for your first time this year, you Pawns. You are about to step into a line of work that most would think insane. For those of you thinking this as some new adventure, stop. This is the reality of it all. We will ask you to kill, then we will ask you to die. I can promise you this. At least 20 of you will die today, maybe more. You will be thrown into situations where you will have no option but to die, kill a friend or even let go of what you hold most important. There will never be an easy day at this academy, and when you graduate we will throw you face first into madness itself. The dreamers, the believers, the ones with the most "spirit" will most likely fall first. Bravado mean nothing if there is no action behind the words...

That being said. All who still wish to stay may now do what I say. All returning students go ahead and check the big brown board right outside the hall or the OverView tab. They have all of your roommate assignments and room numbers. Go ahead to your rooms and get situated. Those who are joining for the first time, Pawns, you may get into different lines so you can take your injection. Dismissed."

Just like that, the meeting was over. Some students began to flow out of the auditorium, while others waited.

Aiden Minstroff

Ah, it was good to be back.

In his first year, the speech had definetly psyched him out. But by now, Aiden was used to it. It had been two years. He'd been through the injection, the long hours of training. All of it terrifying in the beginning, but this was what he wanted, so he stuck to it. And boy did it pay off. Look at him now - a rook with the ability to change into a hulking rock of molten lava. Aiden, he had to admit, was pretty proud of himself. He was finally succeeding - no, excelling at something for once in his life. He had a very stupid grin on his face during the intimidating speech. Most of it he didn't pay attention too. He'd kind of wanted to see the headmaster but when "Jeff" came as the replacement Aiden lost interest. He was too busy glancing at the crowd.

It was so interesting to see how everyone looked on the first day. The majority of the pawns looked terrified. (He could tell they were pawns because they looked terrified.) Some younger looking people who he assumed were pawns didn't outright look terrified, but he could see them anxiously drumming their fingers against their thigh or twirling their hair or gnawing their lip. Some of the people who'd been here longer looked just as scared as some of them. He chuckled under his breath.

He thought back to the first days he'd been at the academy. Uncomfortable, terrified, unsure. To hold a power, a supernatural power. He suddenly felt so different. And to know he couldn't.. control it? It was like thinking he would implode every second. Very stressful. But that time was over now. At least he wasn't worried like that anymore.

Aiden blinked, snapping out of his thoughts when he realized they were dismissed. Welp. Stretching and moving towards the doors with the crowd, Aiden let out a happy sigh. Time to go see his new roomate. Hopefully they'd hit it off.

Stella Arero

Unlike the terrified faces of 'fresh meat', Stella's seemed rather blank.

She'd been perfectly on time. She always was. Not like she had anyone slowing her down. She was excited, and scared, but she didn't show it. It wasn't that she feared she would fail. The possibility didn't actually grace Stella's mind. She was confident she would be compatible with the injection. And her mind raced with the possibilities of the power she would get

She wanted something balanced. Something interesting, maybe uncommon. Stella always had high expectations of herself, but.. she was glad she didn't get to 'choose' her power. She'd have a hard time picking. Too many logical options.

The speech was interesting to say the least. Stella's expression never changed. It was mostly boring up until the end. A line of work that most would think was insane, huh? Well. She could go for some insane. Hell. Her life was already insane. Ripped to pieces by the Gatekeepers. So why not take the chance to gain the strength to stand against them? Lucky for her, she wasn't a dreamer, a believer. She was here to be strong. Stronger than she already was.

As returning students went to the big brown board inside the hall, Stella got in line for the injection that would officially change her life. Taking a deep breath, she nodded to herself. She was ready.

It felt like just yesterday when Maya heard this speech. Only difference was that instead of the headmaster and his marvellous array of capes, it was some guy named Jeff. To Maya, Jeff seemed like an alright person. He could keep the crowd engaged in what he was talking about, and he was pretty decent at jokes. Which made her happy in a way, for she expected some bald guy with glasses to speak through the mic in the most monotonous voice she had ever heard. But alas, everyone's ears have been blessed.

After a few minutes of listening, Maya zoned Jeff out and began to notice how stuffy and squished it was. It was almost like the slightest movement would result in her pressing against someone in a rough and ungraceful fashion. Going on her tippy-toes, she tried to see what Jeff actually looked like. But everyone else has be like around 4 inches taller than her. In a normal situation, she would simply shove everyone out the way in a hasteful way, but right now simply wasn't the time for such an action. "C'mon lemme see," Maya whined to herself silently. One new student in front of her attempted to bend over, though there obviously wasn't enough room for that. Even if he bended over, there were still around twenty more tall people in front of the guy. Huffing in defeat, she zoned back into the speech.

"Dismissed," Jeff said some time later. Maya nodded as if he was only talking to her and spun around. "Big brown board. Big brown board. Big brown... What was it again?" She started to wonder. Maya felt dumb for forgetting so quickly, but she assumed she would be in the mental state for school in at least a month. Hopefully at least. As she began to walk, she stopped abruptly when people were looking at this board that was big. It seemed like there were names on it, and then Maya remembered. "Big brown board!" She exclaimed and was shushed immediately after her outburst. "Sorry," She whispered. Maya didn't expect anyone to hear however. "Anyways..." She began to say to herself and manipulated the floorboards to rotate everyone in a circle until she went to the very front. Now claiming her spot, Maya squinted at the board, trying to find her name. "My roommate is..." She said quietly as she kept scanning the board. "Miles!" Maya shouted and spun around as if this 'Miles' person confidently teleported in front of her. There were more annoyed looks towards her, but Maya ignored them.

Miles Malcolm

Miles sucked in a breath of fresh air and scanned the crowd of people thoughtfully. Some man who went by the name of Jeff was making a speech about AAG. What were aags? Wasn't that the sound you made when your stomach was aching very badly? Come to think of it, who were these people? And where was he? Yes, Miles knew completely nothing. He had just been standing outside this massive building and saw people flooding into the gates. Without any reason, he followed them too. Something inside told him he should be following these people. Sure the man named Jeff talked about dying and killing, but it was just noise in his ear, things he didn't really care about at the moment. What Miles was most concerned with was the lovely weather. Surely he had to have been here before if he knew he should be here.

"Miles!"

Miles turned his head at the sound of his name being called. It was a high pitched voice from somewhere across the major crowd of people. From where Miles stood at the back of the crowd, reaching the point from which his name had been called seemed useless and very difficult. But none the less, he began gently pushing people aside. "Excuse me, pardon me, well hello there!" What seemed like hours later but only amounted to a handful of minutes, he reached the front of the crowd and stopped at the person who he assumed had called out his name. "You're tiny," He said in a somewhat fond way, a carefree and friendly smile on his lips. He patted her head and gently moved her aside to look at the board. There was his name right beside one that he did not know. "You're Maya then." It wasn't really said in a questioning tone but he raised an eyebrow at the girl, waiting for some form of an answer.

Evelina Cosimia

"Move."

The small form of a little woman moved through the group of students at a moderate pace. She wore a black and yellow dress, adorned with pieces of ebony lace and a sun hat with a big yellow bow. Her head was high and her steps were certain. Though she was no more than a few inches under five feet, this woman was confident and proved to be tough. Her name was Evelina, a name most of the returning students knew well. People knew her for her strength, crazy as that may sound, and for her superiority. Those that had not met her yet, either figured out that she meant business or highly underestimated her. Evelina would admit she always preferred the last circumstance because it gave her the opportunity to teach novices a lesson about a couple things. For one, not judging a book by it's cover and two, that Evelina was powerful.

There were a lot more Pawns joining this year than there used to be. It seemed every year the number increased. Evelina found it funny that so many people were eager to line up, a line that ended with them throwing away there lives in one way or another. Could she say she enjoyed it here? Maybe. Did she wish she had chosen a different path? Most certainly. She could remember still when she first came to the academy. Eager. Excited. Proud. Stupid. Naive. In her heart, young Evelina just knew this was the right thing to do, that she was fighting a good cause, that Evelina was a hero! Now, she didn't really understand right from wrong. Because she was indebted to the academy, she followed orders along with trying to keep true to her morals. Perhaps it is in the power she lost herself. Morality didn't seem to affect her anymore, often times Evelina felt immortal when indeed she was not. Of all people, she should know. Not many held powers that came at a cost every second there were used.

What did the students think would come from joining, she wondered. That perhaps they would be showered in glory? That gatekeepers were monsters they heard in stories? Vampires had a weakness. A stake through the heart or garlic maybe. Werewolves too could fall to a silver bullet. Gatekeepers didn't have a particular weakness, no, the only thing to stop a gatekeeper was to lay it to rest. And these Gatekeepers never went down easy.

"They're all fools..." She murmured to herself.

Today was finally the first day of the rest of Jun's life... The boy had been impatiently waiting for the day, since discovering there was even a school dedicated to fight the beings that he despised. They took his one and only treasure, for which he took for granted to begin with. Maybe through this school, if he survived, he could finally get redemption for his lost ones, and maybe even help out other people in the process. It was all he wanted really.

Jun nervously munched on a brownie he made earlier in the day, eating away as many of his feelings that he could manage, without standing out too much. He probably wasn't allowed to bring food into the establishment, but if there was one thing about Jun, it's that he would bring food anywhere, regardless of the consequences. It sort of helped him cope with keeping himself together on the outside, a healing mechanism to some proportion. The raven typically carried a plain, bland, black satchel around with him, to account for his virtually endless eating habits. It was not a purse, by any means. Satchel, he always insisted if asked. Currently residing inside, was a small bag of crisps, some assorted lollipops, hard candies, mints, another brownie, and a juice box. Sometimes Jun got thirsty...

He practically inhaled the rest of the snack, as he watched a figure walk out onto the stage. Jun's disposition remained calm, almost even bored, whereas on the inside his adrenaline was pumping. A serious of dynamic feelings ran through him as he listened to the man, hanging on every word that was spoken. He probably looked like he had dropped off from the start, but his ears remained open, wanting to catch every little detail, down to the point where if the man coughed, he would set it aside for memory. Jun was nervous by the end of it, barely keeping himself from shaking. It took every fiber in his being, along with a lolly, to keep himself breathing at a fairly moderate pace.

Jun looked around him, taking in the rest of the room for the first time since entering. He hadn't even realized how crowded it was. One of the first things the raven took note of, was how shockingly pretty everyone looked. Even the newbies, like him, looked like they were heroes out of a fairy tale. It reminded him of his brother Sage, his striking looks vastly more enjoyable to look at than his own. Jun was a little insecure of this fact, blocking the people out as much as he could. They were probably all better than him in the skill department too, him having never gone through physical exertion, always failing gym through the years. As the older students piled out, and the pawns remained to get their injection, Jun waited silently, finishing his lollipop with a small crunch.

Today had finally arrived. Archie was on his way to the academy when he noticed that most of the students around him were running for some reason. It wasn't until he looked back ahead that he saw the stone doors beginning to close, but this didn't bother him the slightest bit. He just kept maintaining his pace and luckily got through just as the doors closed behind him. While the students were trying to catch their breath, Archie strolled past every individual with a smile on his face as he head towards the auditorium. Seeing the place entirely pack was no big surprise, and he chose to stay by the auditorium entrance instead of making the effort to finding a better spot.

While the man known as Jeff was making his speech in the headmaster's place, Archie couldn't help but yawn, not caring if people stared at him because of it. He already knew what he was signing up for, he didn't have that much to lose and it's not like he's doing this for fun. Instead of continuing to listen, he thought about the injection he will soon get. Stuff like what kind of powers would he get? Or how use full it would be in battle. The thought that stood out the most though, was will he survive it? It's true that not everyone who had taken it had survive, but that's just the risk one has to take when wanting to go through with this procedure. When Jeff had finally finished his speech. Archie had to slightly move to the side so he wouldn't get pushed out along with the other students that were leaving. Once the auditorium had more space to move freely, Archie began to walk over to one of the lines being formed for pawns to receive their injections. Now all he could do now was wait.

Kira had learned her lesson from last year, she remembered to come early and find a place to stand that was close to the stand. Last year she woke up late and had to sprint just to get into the auditorium and join the sardine can they called an announcement. She hated being so close to so many unbearable people and swore if another guy "Accidentally" bumped into her she was going to get herself expelled on the first day... But that's all in the past now, today was Kira was standing in the front and waiting for Mr.capes to make his entrance and give the same speech from last year.

Surprisingly, some other person stepped up to the mic and made some crappy excuse for the headmaster not to be here. Kira didn't care much, though and quickly tuned out of his whole speech. She'd already heard all of this before and didn't think she really needed to hear it again. Eventually, the speech was over and she quickly headed her way to the board to see who she was going to be sharing a room with.

As she made her way up to the board she wasn't surprised to see someone already using their powers. The floor shifted rapidly as the people in the back were rotated to the front and vice-versa. A couple people clearly got happy because of this, but Kira wasn't one of them. She didn't come here 30 minutes early just to wait in a line after all. Glancing past the crowd she could barely make out a short girl who seemed to be the cause of this, she wasn't going to be able to reach her past this crowd... but there were other ways to prove her point.

"Hey, I'm pretty sure you could've just waited like the others!" She blindly shouted towards the front of the line. Almost immediately the majority of students turned to face Kira but realized that she sort of had a point and were rightfully upset about the whole situation.

Yamamoto Kei sat in the last row of the available chairs, and the fact that there is a lot of people standing behind and next to her somehow makes her feel guilty since she sat while the other will have to stand up. But she can't help it, she arrived first afterall. The whole auditorium is filled with the voice of the other students, Kei could hear someone laughing in the distance, someone introducing himself to his new friends behind her. So many interaction and there she is, sitting in the corner biting her lips. She can do it later, right? And then suddenly all the chatters turned to a hush as someone stepped onto the stage.

The man introduced him self as 'not the headmaster', saying that the headmaster is solving a problem which is a about his cape that stopped billowing heroically in the wind. Kei couldn't tell whether the man is serious or not, most probably not. Then the man introduced him self properly as Jeff. He didn't mention what position he has in the school. Then he started introducting about the school, and what kind of things they will experience her, the rules, and joked quite a bit about his co-workers. And then he welcomed the Pawns, the new students joinin in this year.

"This is the reality of it all. Bravado mean nothing if there is no action behind the words..." That's a beautiful way to put how dangerous this place it, and if they couldn't survive the school then they should never expect they could survive a battle against a Gate keeper. And of course, Kei is more than determined. They are then dismissed, the students rushing out of the door as if the auditorium door will close like the school's gate. Of course not. Jeff mentioned something about checking the board for room number and roomate assignments. Kei doesn't really care whether is it someone from her year or a new student, she just hope that it's someone nice.

Sweat crept down Siobhán's brow as she sized up her opponent. She shimmied back and forth on her toes, gauging the distance between them. She lashed out with a fist which impacted with a dull thud against the punching bag. As it swung back, she struck it again and again. Fist, fist, elbow. She had some emotions to work out. The first days were always difficult for Siobhán. Rested for a moment she bounced on her toes.

She grunted a little when Jeff's voice came over the speakers. Siobhán had never appreciated his particular style of humour. When he made the remark about 'freshmeat' she kicked the bag so hard that it left a red imprint on her shin. Two hands reach out of the wall to steady the wildly swinging bag. A face, or more accurately the silhouette of a head, emerged from behind the bag.

"Slow down" Ewan suggested.

"He shouldn't call them that" Siobhán retorted, clearly angry. Ewan paused before his next reply. He decided that it would be better to drop it.

"C'mon. Next set" He suggested instead.

As she started practising her round house kick, Siobhán noticed that her shadow was her shadow.

"I expect you.. to do these.. with me.." She grunted between strikes.

"Yeah, yeah" Ewan replied lazily, shifting from a relaxed state as a regular shadow to intentionally copying Siobhán's movements. Visibly, the shadow shifted from Siobhán's features into that of a young man. Siobhán stared for a moment. She gritted her teeth. Normally she liked seeing her shadow mimic the form of the friend whom she had lost, but on the anniversary of their injections it brought back the wrong kind of memories.

"Actually. Why don't you go check out our room-mate." Ewan shrugged at what we more a command than a request. He leant forward and slid along the wall, to the floor and then under the gym door. Siobhán sighed. Ewan used to have as much trouble as she did on this day. When he had first emerged, Ewan had had an existential crisis upon realizing that he was only a shadow, not the real Siobhán. Now in their fifth year she could hardly recognise any of her qualities in him. As Jeff explained everyone's odds of survival, Siobhán threw everything she had against the bag. Her form for this last stretch was terrible and off balance. She fell to the ground in exhaustion. It was important that people knew what they were getting into, but that didn't mean that Siobhán wanted to hear it.

Ewan slid into the auditorium. He tried to get a discrete look at the rooms board, but there were too many moving people for him to position himself coherently. Instead he floated along the wall above the board. Upside-down, he emerged halfway out of the surface to lean over the board. Pawn's looked up at him, trying to figure out what he was. He rolled the eyes that he technically didn't have. Room 20 with 'Jun'. Ewan didn't recognise the name, which given the attendance wasn't surprising but he hoped that they hadn't saddled Siobhán with some first-day pawn.

The tram was oppressively packed, which Elian should have been expecting, given that it was rush hour. But he hadn't counted on quite so many people traveling on what was more or less a dead-end line. Where were they all gonna go if not Empire City, anyways? To pass the time, he swept his one good eye around to try and predict which other prospective students would be getting off at his stop. He himself had only traveled once to try and get a glimpse of the Academy, a small part of him imagining that the RHG would be magically waiting for him outside with open arms and a neon sign. It was only a little disappointing when he arrived to see nothing but looming walls and barred gates, for the exclusion only deepened the mystery.

Could Lyre be in there...?

It was that thought alone which had gotten him through all the enrollment processes. An academy that specialized in fighting back the Gatekeepers? Sounded cool enough. He didn't give himself much more to think about. An injection that gives you superpowers was old news since Cataclysm, but even that thought was only peripheral to the haunting image of the girl.

For the thirty-third time that morning Elian refocused his gaze back at his watch, the one his pop'd given him for his birthday four years back. Meaning it had lasted through four years of apocalypse; sturdy, and sentimentally attached to his wrist much stronger than the simple clasp would betray. He'd calculated his morning out perfectly, so he really had nothing to worry about, time-wise. Still, he couldn't help but take another three nervous, gigantic bites out of his corn dog before swirling the remains in the little cup of ketchup and mustard in his other hand. On his back was a backpack full of this and that which was probably important, but he would have traded all of it for more of the fried delicacies. He had taken extra time out of his schedule to ensure a stop by
Franc's, in his opinion the best food vendor in all of Canada, for one last baker's dozen of his famous dogs. He'd already eaten three of them. Corn dogs weren't very filling, and they went fast, so he couldn't help himself. At least the school wasn't that far from the city. With luck he'd still be able to visit Franc's and his parents every once in a while to get his mom's special cookies. Maybe he'd finally mature enough to learn how to bake them himself.

"You don't just get to learn the family secrets, you have to earn them."

His mother would always say to the rhythm of a waved eggbeater, plastic smile on her face. But Elian couldn't blame her for being picky, after all his ma could probably be a pastry chef if she ever decided to quit lobbying, she was that good.

With a sigh of relief Elian finally heard his stop being called, making him forget the perfect fluff of the already missed cookies, and pushed his way towards the doors. With a quick glance around he checked to see the results of his game, realizing that he'd gotten pretty much all of his predictions wrong. Oh well. With a good amount of time to spare, he made his way through the bustle of the tram towards the academy's front gates, polishing another corn dog off in satisfaction as he went. Just following along with the crowd, he was easily able to find the auditorium and pressed his way into the back to await the opening announcements. Another corn dog lost its sweet battered fattiness on the walk, such was his building excitement. There were
way more people than he had been expecting...how was he going to find one red-haired needle in this rainbow haystack?

What if this was all just a waste of time? What if the girl wasn't even here, or it was the wrong girl?

What if his sources hadn’t been right?

No, of course they’d been right. You meet a lot of the right kinds of wrong people working in a dirty little Laundromat, after all. Elian started on another corn dog, reminding himself to 'chill, Cap'n, this is only the start of the voyage.'

Pulling the coat he was so massively proud of closer around him, he trained his good eye up towards the front where some unimpressive guy was starting to babble. As Elian casually passed over the students lucky enough to get a seat, he could make out the shape of a girl with long, pinkish-red hair. A mouth full of half-eaten corn dog flapped stupidly open as his eyes opened up like anenomes.

No...No freaking way!

He couldn't see the girl's face because she was sitting in front of him, listening attentively to the speech Elian had already started to block out...and yet somehow he knew. It was her.

That was...damn. That was easy.

But with all the nerves humming through the endless bodies of the packed room, Elian was sure he'd have to wait till the guy on stage stopped jabbering to get a closer look. Frustratedly his brain ping-ponged through notes in the speech. Capes and stabbing and love affairs and injections and probable death and yada yada blah blah blah finally!

As soon as the man dismissed him Elian shoved his way over to the RHG.

"Excuse me, hey, pinkie! Red-hair girl! Yo!"

She was completely oblivious of his Mosean parting of the crowds to get towards her, finally, a corn-dog wielding hand just close enough to read out and---

Lusine was one of the first people to arrive at the lecture hall, wanting to ensure a seat for herself so that her dress wouldn't get crinkled. Plus she loved to watch the students filtering in, picking out the ones she knew from her time at AAG and those whom she would soon befriend. Although she sat still, her excitement seeped through her as if to make her aura more radiant than ever.

New roommate assignments, I wonder who'll I'll be with!

She smiled behind her hand, but the thought of her old roommate immediately brought her arm back down to rest on her lap, her expression empty.

I have to get stronger...

The possibilities to be uncovered through another year of training threatened to release a swirl of bubbles throughout the room, but how embarrassing for a Bishop to lose control of her powers in front of the new recruits!

Smiling again to herself, Lusine became content with watching the tide of incomers flood around her, first filling in seats, then, as time ticked downwards, to crowd in a frothing crest at the door. A few people waved hello to her to which she energetically responded. She was lucky to have made many fond relationships in her time, even if all of them hadn't survived to see this year's incoming class...

Finally the appearance of a figure onstage brought Lusine's attention back towards the front. Her eyes sparkled at each of Jeff's tales, accidentally finding herself getting extra engrossed, though she was a little disappointed that Ziggy Stardust wasn't there to entrance with his majestic, flittering cape.

I hope they can fix the matter, soon...

She could think of a few cape-waving ideas herself if the Headmaster's crackteam couldn't hack it.

While imagining flocks of trained birds sweeping up controlled wind pockets she realized that the speech had ended and everyone was on the move.

Alright, time to find out who's going to be my roommate!

She secretly hoped that it was someone new, a Freshman. Maybe she could take on an aspiring Bishop, help to teach them all about power and strategy. Even if they ended up being a Rook, maybe they could give her some tips on how to become a stronger fighter. Her little noodley arms could certainly use some buffing up.

With determination, Lusine made her way through the crowd. She was on the edge of the group around the blackboard when a commotion coming from a girl a bit on the short-side like herself caused Lusine to suddenly find herself at the front of the flock.

Lucky!!

She thought happily, unaware of a very disheveled-looking young man with corn dogs and an eyepatch staring despairingly after her.

"Hey, I'm pretty sure you could've just waited like the others!" A voice called out. Not even knowing what the heck had just happened or what was going on, Elian couldn't help but chime in, "Yeah! You shouldn't bend the laws of physics to cheat, man. Turn it back!"

His outburst got him caught by the hulk of an upperclassman.

"I don't think I've seen you around here before."

"Yeah, I'm a Pawn. What of it?"

"You should be lining up for an injection. Also, no eating inside."

While Elian squabbled against having his corn dogs confiscated and being swept towards the Pawn line by the brawn, Lusine, completely oblivious to the growing commotion, at last settled her eyes upon her name.

Archie Valentine! A Freshman!

She subconsciously clasped her hands beneath her chin, dreamily imagining the training that they would go through together.

I hope he survives his injection...

At the realization of this worrying thought, she quickly whipped her head back around to eye the lining Pawns. Which one of them could be her new roommate?

Electo Osario, the Shape-Shifter

The freshblood had arrived, she smiled, 'So these are the batch of students that will die this year.... what fun..' The last thought sounded vary sarcastic to her, she stood in the back, watching with a grin the packed-with-students auditorium.

She pouted, 'Where's Mister Swooshy Cape?' She thought looking at the stage, barely though, seeing as she was in the back of the students.

'Wonder how much would take the pain.... less then twenty percent.... hopefully....they cause too much of a pain in the ass to exist....' She looked at the person giving the speech with life stories added in, 'Who the hell is he any-a-ways?' She scrunched her nose in annoyance, she was too short to see anything from the distance! "Hmm, that guy looks tall..." She said looking at a a boy upfront who was rather nervously munching on a brownie and then shifted into him, tall, pale skin and dark hair, "Yipee! I can see now!" Her clothes morphed too, the Academy was nice for once and gave her the strange clothing that can shift too... she felt like it mocked her sometimes for some reason.....

She looked up at the Jeff guy, still not having any idea who was he. She started walking the front of the student body so she could see easier. Manoeuvring so that the boy wouldn't see her, you know, so he wouldn't make a commotion. "What a dimwit..." she muttered out looking at the stage, the guy kept on going about unimportant stuff. Some people where giving her strange looks, why would someone that looks like her, or I guess now a him say, 'Yipee'? Now you know...

'Loud,

loud,

loud,'

She kept on thinking, no trying to think, the noise made her head hurt, but she bared it through the speech, standing there, in the middle of a sea of students, trying to make her way further to the front. She pursed her lips.

"And I only came to read who my room-mate is..... well damn..." The only reason she allowed herself to act like this was because she was in someone else's body, if it was her's she would be giggling all over the place. One of the reasons she loves it so much, really, it gave her a chance to stop pretending.... for once.... she can be as cynical, as irritating as possible.... that made her feel better sometimes. Not always, but not acting, not wearing a mask, it was very comforting for her.

Knowing there we're times she could be free.... yeah, it was nice.

She tried making her way to the big brown board. When her tiring trip to there was done she smirked in triumph, 'Simon and Raiden..... those sound like boy names.... did they get the wrong person? Or do they think I'm genderless because I can shape-shift?' She frowned for a split-second and then her smile was there again, 'Ignorant fools... the lot of them... I feel like killing whoever is the mastermind behind this....'

"Simon and Raiden.... huh?" She muttered out.

Simon was in the gym of the academy when the announcement started, he was training against one of the largest and hardest dummies that the school had, which was about the only one which actually put up some resistance, it was made out of solid iron and was about the size of a Gate Keeper, he saw Siobhán and Ewan was there too, however he didn't pay much mind to them for the moment. Once the announcement was finished he exited the gym and went out towards the Auditorium.

Simon did attend the round-up greeting with the newcomers, however he certainly didn't pay any attention to it, he'd just been basically sleeping throughout the entire speech, luckily so had he managed to recieve a chair from one of the newcomers that oh so delightfully wanted to offer him it with a smile. Heh, yeah right, he'd threatened the little bastard, saying that if he wouldn't hand over the seat he'd smash him straight out of the hall so hard he'd fly out through the school gates.

But anyway, he'd slept throughout the speech since he'd already heard it once, why listen to it again? Once it was over he woke up by someone bumping his chair. "You wanna go mate?" Was the first thing he said with a sleepy voice, however as he woke up, looked around and realised that it was over he stood back up and walked outside, looking at the giant board. "So, let's see who the lucky guy or gal is" Simons brows furrowed as he saw his partners name "Elian? What the hell kind of name is that? I can't even determine if my roommate is a girl or a dude so I don't know if I should introduce them with clothes on or not, meh, let's just go safe before sorry, don't want any rumors now do we?" He didn't notice that he was talking out loud as he stood amongst the other returning students, he turned around and started walking towards the living quarters where his room was waiting for him and his roommate "At least last year I could tell that my partner was a dude, too bad the bastard pissed me off though, trying to act all bossy" He snickered for himself "I wonder if they've fixed that wall yet?"

Maya stared blankly at the crowd of people, expecting Miles to run up to her. But there could be many Miles, and the wrong Miles could show up. Though she trusted herself with the fact that there probably isn't another miles here. Hopefully.

A few minutes past, and Maya felt insanely bored. She was quite disappointed at Miles' tardiness. Though the man probably didn't hear her. Giving a short shrug, Maya set a new goal for herself. To get out of this crowded, and humid and insanely stuffy room. "Move!" She ordered and pushed a couple people out of the way. At this point Maya was asking to get yelled at. And she did.

"Hey, I'm pretty sure you could've just waited like the others!" A girl shouted over the crowd. Maya didn't really know what she was talking about, so she stopped to think for a couple seconds. Did she do anything bad before today? Then she remembered. Whoever was shouting was probably referring to how Maya practically saved one hour of her time whilst making everyone else who used to be in front to wait at the back. "Well, I'm sorry! Look, whoever you are, I'll let you skip the line next time!" She cupped her hands and shouted in response.

"You're tiny."

Maya turned around to see who it was. He was tall, though everyone in this room was tall to Maya. The only thing that made her not shout back in retaliation was the boy's smile. He probably didn't mean anything bad from the comment, and Maya decided to let it slide for now. By the time he walked past her, any anger and upset feeling she had before were almost gone. Once he was finished looking at the board, he turned back to her and simply said, "You're Maya then."

Maya realized that the boy was Miles. The person who wasted four minutes of her life, but she decided to yell at him some other time. For now, it would be good to not make an enemy out of her roommate. "Yup! That's me," She smiled, having no idea what will happen next.

Injection time!
It was time for injections. These were done out in the open, for all students to see, in a massive building that resembled half a sphere. That way when a student was done with their injection and came out alive, everyone could witness their first victory: surviving the injection. The first person in line, a young male shaking from the tips of his toes to the top of his head stepped forward as members of the school gestured for him to come over to them. They sat him in a chair that resembled that of a dental chair for someone getting their teeth cleaned. This chair however had less instruments and more means of restraint. There, they strap your ankles down and wrists flat. Your knees, abdomen, neck, and even your head are restrained. Once your in the chair there is no getting out of the chair. There you die or you leave knowing you'll grow very powerful.

Because it was the first person to get their injection, a man who gave all injections whom people referred to as The Doctor, stepped forward with raised hands and a smile behind his cloth face mask, one can only see through the wrinkles framing the corner of his eyes.

"Welcome! First off, I'd like say you all are very brave. I myself could never strap myself into that chair knowing that could be the very last place I ever sit, but, you know, props to you guys! Now, you all may know the average survival rate for a student is not compatible is eighty percent. Those who are compatible have a ninety to ninety eight percent chance but if you are compatible, I wouldn't get too cocky. I've seen people die in this chair with a two percent fail rate. Any one of you could die."

When The Doctor said that, the boy in the chair went very pale.

"So, if you do die, I'd like to thank you beforehand for putting your life on the line for the AAG! Speaking of which, you all signed your waivers right? Good, good... Now, if you do survive, your powers could start surfacing as soon as a couple minutes after or it could take a lot longer. I recommend not using them too soon because you'll be clumsy and careless. I've also see people survive the injection only to die later by using their powers or someone else using their powers and they just happened to be there. So, good luck!"

With that, The Doctor turned back to the frightened boy in the chair and picked up his syringe. He filled it with a bright cyan blue liquid, quite a lot of it and tapped the glass tube. The size of the needle was nothing to sneeze at. It was about six inches in length and the width of one of those coffee stirring straws. Then he turned to the boy with a raised eyebrow. The boy had started to freak out, fighting against his restraints.

"I've changed my mind! No, please! Let me go!"

"Calm down. There is no turning back now, suck it up. You'll want to save your scream for later because this is going to really hurt. It hurts everyone..."

The Doctor ignored his feeble pleads and pushed the needle into the boys bicep, the sharp end breaking the skin. Slowly he pushed down the syringe and the liquid entered his body. A fiery burn slowly spread through his arm as the liquid made its way through his bloodstream. And then he really began to shriek. He fought the restraints, arching against them but they held fast. His skin had gone clammy and ghostly pale. His lips turned purple. His screams echoed throughout the building. Then, he went still. His breathing stopped as did his fighting and his eyes starred blankly off to the right. He was dead. As staff unbound the corpse from the chair and began to take away his limp form, The Doctor turned to the crowd of pawns.

"Next!"

Stella Arero

Stella watched as a shaking young man was strapped to the chair, where probably many had died. As the doctor spoke, the expression on the boy's face becoming more and more terrified with each passing second. It was pathetic. Everyone here was scared. Everyone. Even the ones that said they weren't, even the ones that looked like they didn't, like her. Everyone was scared. But everyone came here voluntarily. They came because they wanted power, to fight the Gatekeepers. They didn't come here to be wimps.

And as the boy's body went still, Stella knew, that even if that boy had survived the injection, he wouldn't have lived to fight a Gatekeeper. His screams did not make her flinch - she only looked away.

When it was her turn, she stepped up to the chair, laying down, allowing herself to be strapped in. This moment would decide her face. She could be moments away from joining her parents in the release of death. Or become something bigger and better then a human. As she was strapped in, Stella did not show any signs of any fear. She was ready. She would not die a silly, screaming death like the first boy. She was strong.

The injection was pushed into her arm, Stella's eyes shot wide open, and she sucked in a deep breath. The pain was intense. Stella had never felt pain like this. And the pain only got hotter, white hot. Just when she thought she was about to explode, just when she expected to die -

The pain stopped.

She inhaled again, a sharp, scary breath, as her iris's glowed a bright purple. The lights in the room flickered before completely shutting off, leaving the room in darkness. But just seconds later everything returned to normal, the lights turning back on as if nothing happened. Then her eyes stopped glowing, and the so-called Doctor unbuckled her from the chair. Stella sat up shakily before hopping off the seat. As she walked away, she glanced back at the chair where she had just sat moments ago, someone new already being strapped in. And then, she smiled to herself.

She'd survived.

Aiden Minstroff

Aiden was used to this already - the usage of powers to cut the line. It happened all the time at the academy. Literally. All the time. Aiden hadn't been jerky enough to do that yet, his power wasn't exactly suited for it unless he wanted to knock some kids into the ceiling. Which Aiden didn't want to do. So.

As the floorboard shifted underneath his feet (Maya. Tiny little beast.) to rotate him from his spot close to the board. Aw, jeez. It would probably be smarter to just wait somewhere 'till the flood of people dispersed. So he sat himself down on a bench with a good view of the chaos surrounding the big brown board.

Hmmn. Wish I'd brought a sandwich or something.

Electo Osario, the Shifter,

Electo watched with a blank and bored look on her face, it was nothing new, people always cut the line using powers, it annoyed her quite a bit. 'People are wasting their powers...' She thought, looking with a bored face, trying to make her way to the exit. 'People, quite being annoying, MOVE!' She growled, still in some boys body. She tried making her way to the exit once more, 'Shape-shifting, why are you so useless?' She thought with a frown. She crowd of students who survived choking her with headache.

"Bah...." She said with a blank look on her face. She started pushing everyone away, not even caring about what people thought of her, "Move! I'm sick of this! SICK!" She screeched out.

Sure, other years were crowded too, but never this bad. She just wanted to make everyone shut their traps. Maybe even befriend someone who can.... that would be useful.... she wondered whether someone might get a power like that...

"Everyone quit annoying me!" 'Shape-shifting ain't the only thing I can do....' She pushed her way through the students, "And if someone named Raiden or Simon appears tell them Electo is their room-mate! Thank you for your time!" She said and smiled sarcastically. She pulled her hood up, "People suck..." This time she said it quietly. 'Room twenty-four, room twenty-four, room twenty-four....' She kept chanting in her head, trying to find her way out and not forget her room number. Some where in the middle she just sighed. Sick, with everything. She shifted back into herself, her red hair falling limply to the sides.

In the endless trail of the line, there were many types of people. Some wore their terror on their faces, some whispered uneasily to the mates they'd already made just standing around the auditorium. Others kept their fear behind sallow expressions, like a smile beneath a mask.

One, however, just look very irritated, angrily scarfing down another two corn dogs. The supply was finally beginning to run low.

I can't believe it! First thing I find is the RHG and then stupid muscle jock had to---

Elian's stream of inner grumbles echoed the length of the line. He was so tightly wound up around thoughts of the girl, Lyre, and the fact that he was almost out of corn dogs, that he scarce had room to compute that he was waiting for an injection that would either make him a superhero or take his life. While his frustration dwindled to the thought that he'd have plenty of time to track the girl down once he was through with all the other "Freshman orientation" stuff, his one sweeping eye finally began to take in the breathless nervousness of the students around him, and his brain at last registered the gravity of the situation.

All that "Freshman orientation" stuff could end in a body bag.

Jeepers.

He felt a shiver snake down his back at the realization. Well, it wasn't a a true 'realization,' since it was something he'd danced with since applying to the mysterious AAG. But the cold numbers never seemed to so vividly flicker before his eyes. Percentages, percentages...

Something began to gnaw at his stomach, something that told him that maybe he should stop packing in the corn dogs, but at the same time made him feel as if the mostly empty, crumpled, grease-stained bag was all he had left to hold on to, causing him to practically shove another dog whole down his throat.

Nearly choking on the experience, he thought it best to save the few that were left and slipped them into his backpack. And just like that, he was next.

Alright, Cap'n.You can do this.

Despite the nerves waltzing wildly inside him, Elian was surprised to find that, underneath the schmaltz, he was strangely calm. As they strapped him down the endless chanting percentages percentages began to be strewn with other words and images -- his parents, his sister, the kindly crackpot who had allowed them space in his bomb shelter, the ruined cities, a haunting face like a specter, draped through stringy red hair made grim by the flickering lights. Lyre.

As his friend's name pulsed through his brain so too did a sensation of lightning enter his veins, feeling like something ripping through his body straight to his heart. He couldn't tell if he was screaming or not, but the intensity and
electricity of the moment caught him by surprise and by the time the straps were undone and he was back on his feet staring woozily at the dome floor his lungs felt constricted and his entire body breathless.

The administrator urged him onwards with the clinical expression of
"Next!", causing Elian to stumble out of the way, regaining his senses. The pain, though all-consuming, had already passed.

Oh thank God.

Out loud he said, "Well, that wasn't so bad. Knew I'd make it."

He meant to immediately take off back towards the hall where he'd last seen the RHG, but his body had other plans. He was amazed by how weak and weightless he felt.

Aren't you supposed to have superpowers now? What's the holdup?

His body made no response. That was kind of disappointing. Then another belated epiphany. He had superpowers now! About fifty different comic book heroes flashed through his mind all at once, and he began ridiculously striking poses.

"Kyah! Hyah! Whoosh!"

It prompted nothing. With a sigh he more comfortably shifted his backpack and began to take note of the students around him. The ones who had lived. Most of them just look relieved, or even a bit woozy as he himself had been. One girl caught his eye, mostly because of her shining orange hair that contrasted so greatly with her inward-facing smile. Her face was curiously alluring, and the more he stared at her the less he could explain why. In the end he noted her, but all he could muster was that hers was the wrong shade of "red."

Kira couldn't help but facepalm at the response the cutter gave her. There wasn't going to be a next time, not for another year at least and the girl probably just said that to irritate her some more. However she wouldn't let this get the best of her, it was her first day this year and she wanted to start it off right. Still, she refused to sit and wait like a moron and her powers weren't really... suited for situations like this so she would have to force her way past everyone. She aggressively pushed and shoved people aside, not really caring for who they might be or how they reacted. Eventually, she reached the board and started searching for her name. She was shocked to find that her room was in the hundreds. It would be a pain to walk all the way to the room every day, but she couldn't change much and simply rolled her eyes in annoyance.

She quickly left the crowd and found a place to sit down. Her partner would probably be looking for her, and she'd rather it be that way than the other way around. Ironically, that meant sitting on the same bench as Aiden. He seemed to be just as uninterested in the whole situation as she was, so they could at least find some common ground. Not long after sitting down did Kira turn to face Aiden. She gave him a slight smile as she asked "I'm guessing you're not into lines that much huh?".

Aiden Minstroff

Aiden drummed his fingers against his thigh, looking rather bored as he watched the ongoing chaos of people pushing to see the name of their roommate. He considered getting up to go do some training and come back later just as someone sat down next to him. "Hey, Kira!" Aiden smiled at her kindly. Kira was pretty small compared to Aiden, even sitting down, but Aiden towered over basically everyone. Aiden had a pretty terrible memory, and can't often remember names for the life of him, but he'd been told of Kira's power now and then and he thought it was absolutely awesome. Death Vision? How cool was that? I mean yes, he'd expected more of a laser-vision-esque thing but it was cool nonetheless.

"Move! I'm sick of this! SICK!" Aiden flinched. Yikes. Some people were just nasty.

"If there's good food involved, I'm all for lines. But this," Aiden gestured to the big clump of people in front of them. "Nah. I'd rather not get clobbered by someone with super strength or something, cause I can see that's about to happen." Aiden gave a small laugh. "Plus, my power isn't really suited for line-cutting. Just like yours, I'm assuming. Don't wanna slice people in half just 'cause they're cutting, I hope." Aiden grinned, and then let out a yawn.

"Sorry, I'm rambling." Aiden stretched, lifting his arms up to the sky and squeezing his eyes shut before slouching back down. "You excited for the new year?"

Miles Malcolm

"Oh, cool. What is this list?" Miles asked in a sweet senseless bliss. For some reason their names were next to each other. That was as far as he gotten. And apparently it was important enough for her to call to him. Again, not much else he knew. Although he only had to crane his neck a little farther to see that this was a board for room mate pairings among other things. But now, people were starting to flood forward again and the two were being slowly dragged backwards by the moving people like the water in an ocean, only they did not return to "shore". Then he heard some people talking among each other about "pawns" and "injections". A warning alarm sounded inside him saying, 'This is important!'. "I have to go do something, I think. I will meet up with you afterwards."

He made his way through the crowd, stopping to ask someone where the pawns were supposed to be at. They only answered him by pointing to a large dome not too far away. A simple thanks and he changed his direction to that dome, that dome he was supposed to be at for a reason he did not know. He pushed through the crowd of people waiting, most not seeming to care, if anything relieved that they had to wait one more person before receiving their injection. Then he strode right up to the chair, waved to the man holding the syringe, and sat down, beginning to strap himself in. A normal person would be very afraid, even if they didn't know what this was. Restraints and a medical syringe the size of a child's forearm? But he didn't exactly connect all of this together because he wasn't all there.

The man raised the cyan tube and began to lower it towards his arm. Miles watched intently as the needle entered his skin and the liquid began to disappear from the tube. Suddenly a gasp escaped his lips as the pain took over, surprising him with its intensity. He didn't scream, didn't flail, just stared up at the ceiling with wide, agony filled eyes. Then he closed them, having gone somewhat limp from the pain and nearly lost consciousness. The pain began to subside and he heard footsteps as the man walked over to him.

"Another dead one?"

He felt hands on his feet and legs, moving him and suddenly he snapped his eyes open, scaring the people who had apparently come to take his "dead" body away" Miles planned to say something in return but when he opened his mouth, handfuls of tiny diamonds spilled from his ,lips and clattered against the floor.

Evelina Cosimia

Evelina had found a soft and flat large sized rock to rest upon outside, as if to pass the time by. A deadened tree shadowed her form, one that must have bared lovely branches and leaves in it's prime but now was nothing more than a huddle of darkened sticks. Her stern gaze was focused forward, not watching a particular thing, but her golden eyes took in everything. The pawns were frightened much like they should be. If you weren't afraid, you were stupid. You would die very quickly when it came time to face the Gatekeepers and Evelina, a knight of AAG, would not think it wrong for the said god or gods to have taken your life because you, solely in charge of keeping it safe, were too foolish to realize that the particular Gatekeepers you decided to pick a fight with were far out of your league.

Of course, she always mourned the loss of a life in this war. Every life lost had never needed to be taken in the first place. Looking at it from a bigger picture, people would insist it was just and life was lost for good reason, all of these lives needed to be taken. But looking at it from the point of that Bishops friend, family, or maybe even lover, no, they would not agree with such things. They would cry and demand the life of the person they held so dearly in their lives to be returned so they could see their face again, laugh in their presence, smile and love one another. Was it fair? Did people look at this crowd of people and ever realize they were just humans and they would always be humans if not with just a little extra boost? That each one of these people was capable of loving, laughing, crying, and making mistakes? That these people played as children and celebrated holidays, that they have tripped and fallen at least once before, that they've hurt people and people have hurt them? If they did, everyone ignored it and ignored it well. Who could go to war knowing that the soldiers were fragile and only just human?

Somehow Electo found herself back where she came from after a while of searching for an exit (By a while I mean three minutes), 'I still don't get the floor plan and arrangements of this place...' She puffed a piece of her hair out of her face. 'But at least it isn't as noisy as before.... thank God...' She ended up trying to find somewhere to sit, maybe she was making an ant hill into a mountain, but It didn't stop her from being tired. She smiled and sat next to two people talking. Electo looked over the still there crowd of people, relaxing slightly, a false smile on her face. She bit the inside of her cheek. Her special clothing morphing into a shirt with a cupcake on it, and rainbow socks going up her knees with a lab coat topping in all off just as she wanted. It really did mock her, the piece of cloth...

While sitting she couldn't help but hear a snippet of the conversation to her side.

"Don't wanna slice people in half for cutting line," Or something like that, it reminded her of her younger brother, 'What a punny pun...' She thought, a smile stilled stretched painfully across her face.

'What would a Simon or Raiden look like? Would they wear glasses? Probably not, she just wished they would... she liked boys in glasses, she thinks they add the cuteness factor, but she was straying of topic... typical... and she is talking about herself in third person.. awesome... would they have dark hair? Or will it be dyed?' She asked herself. Twirling a lock of hair, lost in her thoughts. Strange, weird and in explainable she was.

It was a shame that the first student who took the injection had ended up as an example to the others of how rough the academy can be. Archie then patiently awaited his turn as the others began taking their injections, so far only three students in particular seemed to have peaked his interest. The first being the orange haired girl who had turned the lights off after her injection, and the next one you could't really miss cause he was striking one pose after another. The weirdest one though was the one student who had cut in front of him and how he wasn't afraid of the process whatsoever. Archie couldn't help but chuckle when reacting to all of this and he somehow didn't feel as scared as he did before.

"Well I guess lets just get this over with."

He sat down in the chair as they began strapping him down and all was swell, that is until they brought out that ridiculous thing they called a syringe. Archie bit his tongue just at the sight of it, that and he never really had a shot before so this would be a new experience for him.

"Oh you got to be shi-"

Was all he managed to say when the the cold metal pierced his arm and the liquid was poured into his bloodstream. It felt like someone had lit his blood on fire and thanks to the straps, It prevented him from wanting to jump out of his seat. He could now only grind his teeth mercilessly and endure the pain, but he knew this was just the beginning as he was unfortunate enough to not be compatible to this process so out of nowhere, his pain took a drastic turn. Now his body began to shake violently as he started feeling cold rather than hot. He then blood started spewing out of his mouth which it all got on his shirt, and for a second, he thought that he was actually going to die... Until it all stopped, he blinked as the straps were loosened and he could get up. He couldn't tell but he had some minor changes to his appearance. His color in his left eye was now white instead of yellow, same goes for a strand of his hair that also turned white. He didn't know how to describe how he was feeling. His breath were foggy, and his body felt numb which at first he still thought was because of effects of the syringe, but then soon realized it was his powers when he notice where he was standing was slowly turning to ice.

For some reason though he still had a splitting headache and all he wanted to do now was find his roommate and hope they know what to do to deal with this. He walked by the others without so much as looking at them, leaving a trail of ice behind him as he made his way to the billboard. There he found out he had to look for someone named Lusine. He let out a soft sigh as turned back around to start looking. The first person he thought of asking was this salmon red haired girl who was watching the line he was in earlier and suspected she saw what happened to him earlier.

"Um, excuse me but do you know where I can find someone named Lusine?"

He then closed his arms around himself as he tried to warm up a bit while awaiting her answer.

Still with half-dreamy eyes, Lusine continued to watch the line of Pawns. Though an exercise in futility, she couldn't help but lead her eyes over one after another, wondering whom this 'Archie' person might be...

"Hey, Lucy!"

At the sound of her sometimes nickname, the girl turned to see a fellow Bishop also killing time by the roommate board until their new partner showed up.

"Hello! How was your break?"

"Fine, fine. But listen, did you notice that guy trying to talk to you earlier? What was that about?"

For a moment a shadow passed over Lusine's face, like a car driving past a window. Guy? What guy?

"What do you mean?" Then, to cover up any sign of discomfort, "do you think I have an admirer?" Lusine flashed one of her timid, playful grins that was picked up in her friend.

"Well, it's probably nothing, but---"

At that moment someone else came along, apparently to report that through the grapevine word was that the other Bishop's prospective roommate hadn't survived the 'initiation process.'

"Ah, geeze. That's really...what a shame." It was hard to know how to respond to the death of a stranger, especially when almost every person at the academy already knew what it was like to lose someone cherished. "Well, I've got to take care of this. We'll talk later, Luce."

"Alright."

Lusine offered an empathetic smile, her chest squirming. If only she had the power to save the world...to truly help people beyond offering them useless words of comfort...a really
cool power......cool.........cold...like the boy she could see dragging his way towards the brown board in a daze, a trail of ice in his wake.

Ice powers...now that's cool!

Her brained flashed through various ways she could incorporate freezing into her routine. If her bubbles could be blocks of ice, maybe like snow, then...

"Um, excuse me but do you know where I can find someone named Lusine?"

The ice boy was suddenly talking to her, and at his question Lusine's distracted sparkles returned full force with an intensity as if the boy had just flicked on a switch.

"My gosh! I'm Lusine! Don't tell me, are you Archie!?"

Scarcely able to contain her excitement, in a flurry of salmon hair and ruffled clothing she leapt upon the boy warmly grasping his hands. Well...warm was an exaggeration, seeing as the moment she touched him she flinched back in surprise.

"Aah! Cold metal..."

In consternation she looked from her reddened hands back towards the boy.

"You...just got your powers, huh?"

Jun watched silently as the first in line for the injections screamed in horror. He casually turned away as the boy was announced dead, feeling slightly bad for him on the inside, however he forced himself to keep it contained. It was a horrible thing for the boy to have died, but Jun couldn't worry about that right now. He let thoughts about what sort of power he could end up with, hoping that it wouldn't be anything mediocre... But knowing his interests it would probably be something useless like being able to eat twice his mass in food. Curse his senseless eating habits..

The boy watched people get their powers one after the other, patiently waiting his turn. So far it seemed like there had only been one death, but he could be the second for all he knew. The procedure itself looked quite painful, however Jun was sure he could power through it. He needed strength in order to overcome his weakness, as well as wipe out the race that killed not only his, but thousands of other families too. Jun took a deep breath as he was led to the chair. It almost looked like something out of a movie, but not as worn down and disgusting.

All too quickly he was strapped in, with the doctor nearing closer with each breath he took. The breaths themselves were each as deep and calm as he could manage, in preparation for the pain, and possible death to come. On the one hand he wouldn't mind it if he were to die, however on the other hand he knew that his parents would expect more from him, even in their death. Not that they were looking down from heaven, Jun wasn't a spiritual believer by any means. No God would be cruel enough to take away his whole family, only leaving him alive.. Then again, if these Gate Keeper things existed, who's to say their isn't a God as well. If there is one, he certainly isn't doing his job correctly.

The needle went in, smooth as butter, piercing his arm. Time seemed to move slower as the liquid was pushed into his veins. His intuition was screaming at him to get out of there, a fight or flight feeling taking over. In the end the logical side won the battle, because he couldn't exactly break free of the confinements and rampage his way out, and even if he did he would probably be killed on the spot... So in that respect, there wasn't a point in even trying to writhe as the pain overtook his senses. He closed his eyes, grit his teeth, biting the side of his cheek a little, and took it without his vocal cords betraying him. Jun felt this was a big feat, and after all was said and done, the pain quickly dissipated. No use crying now over spilled milk. He opened his eyes, blinking as they adjusted to the light. Of course he had no clue as to what his power was yet, but that would come in due time... Jun had quite a lot of time on his hands, considering he didn't die.

They unhooked his restraints, gave him a congratulatory handshake, and then shooed him out of the room. He didn't feel like much had changed, other than the small numbness in his arm, just like any typical shot. He stretched it a little, giving it a roll of the shoulder as well, as he walked outside to the bulletin board. There was some sort of big commotion going around, something about using powers to get an advantage at seeing the board.. The raven couldn't care less really, popping a hard candy in his mouth as he slowly approached the small crowd. With his height, and rather impeccable vision, he was just able to make out where the board said the list of roommates were. That explained why everyone was trying to see.

Rather than push and rage to get through to the front, Jun took a calmer approach, although it was slower. He looked for any openings where the crowd thinned, and then carefully edged his way into them, eventually making his way to the second row. It would be good enough, for he was able to see under the shorter student's heads. He read down the list until he got to his name, and room number. Apparently he was in room 20, sharing with a Siobhán. He couldn't really read the name, but that was understandable enough, so he couldn't identify the gender, but judging by the previous pairings, it looked as if he would be sharing with a female. Jun didn't really mind, but he could hear some of the girls around him freak out a little bit, accusing their prospective roommates to be perverts. The boy really hopped that if his roommate was a girl, then she wouldn't be this problematic.

Juniper breathed out, his tongue dissolving the last bits of the peach hard candy. He dug around in his satchel for a moment, locating the juice box. As he made his way out of the crowd, he poked the straw in, and took a sip. It was a very crisp and refreshing apple flavor, which brightened his mood a little. Some people were staring at him oddly as he left the area, although this wasn't because of the juice, rather it was because of a false double, who made him out to be a loudmouth who was annoyed. This however was unbeknownst to Jun, who was focusing on his own world at the moment. He made his way to room 20, using the map that was in the guidebook. It helped really well, and he arrived to the room with ease.

The raven opened the door, and stepped into a blank room. It would appear that his roommate hadn't gotten there yet, which was a little bit of a relief for Jun, because he could bum around for a bit alone. He threw his satchel down onto the bed located on the left side of the room. Some, well all, of his stuff was already in a box by the end of his bed, ready to be unpacked. Jun shipped his stuff ahead of time, that way he wouldn't have to make a second unnecessary trip. As quickly as he could, he made his bed with the black bed set that he had for years. It for some reason didn't bring back any bad memories, but this was probably because at the time he was in his room, the bed spread had been his replacement white one, for when the black was dirty. Jun burned the white one. He got comfortable in sweatpants and a t-shirt, of course all black, and pulled out his laptop. Jun had some time to probably kill before his roommate got in, and he wasn't about to waste it. Technically he was wasting it, because all he did was aimlessly scroll through different internet pages. The basics essentially...

(To make up for my absence this is a little long :) Shalom)
