  1. Emotion reading:: The experiments on him has allowed him to see and read brainwaves. It appears as an aura around people. He does not know their thoughts, but he can read their emotional state. To some extent he is also able to tell if someone is lying, if they exhibit strong emotional response to it.
     
     Roleplaying mechanics: Able to discern whether people are happy, sad, uncertain etc. Like emotions that can be inferred from how writers describe their characters, but is not actually said by the character. He does not read minds, as that will too easily fall into metagaming.
     
     
     
  2. Manipulate decisions:: If he concentrates hard enough, he is able to affect other people's thoughts by altering their brainwaves, when they are wavering between multiple decisions. e.g. if an attacker is deciding between attacking him and another person, he can nudge them towards attacking the other person. The attacker will think that they made the decision themselves.
     
     Limitation - He needs to be able to concentrate to do this. e.g. he cannot do it if he is in debilitating pain. Use of this ability gives him a headache that stacks with each use, until he gets a chance to rest. If he tries to use this too many times, the pain will break his concentration and he can no longer perform it. This drawback is possibly due to incomplete experimentation.
     
     Roleplaying mechanics: I envision this to be used on NPCs. If it happens that our synergy works so well that I happen to be able to use this on PCs for narrative effect, it does not force players to do things against their will. It is up to the player if their character will be affected by this ability. It can be written off as the character having a strong will to resist it.
     
     
     
  3. Altered charisma:: (Inspired by Psyche) Related to the above ability, he is able to get people with a neutral view of him to view him favourably. This can't turn enemies into friends. He does this automatically whenever he interacts with someone. Basically, people who talk to him will think that he is charming and smart, unless he does something that changes their view of him.
     
     Roleplaying mechanics: Nothing earthshattering here. In D&D terms, he just has an advantage on charisma checks.
     
     
     
  4. Perfect copy:: (Inspired by Dolos) By attuning to any item, he is able to make illusions of them appear. To attune, he has to observe the item from all angles. Simple items (e.g. a key) may take just a minute. More complex structures, like a building, can take a few hours. The illusion works on human minds, so machines will be able to see through it. The illusion persists for everyone as long as there is one person in the vicinity who believes in the illusion. This works by resonating the brainwaves of people. The illusion can be applied on a combination of any of the five senses - Sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste. This is not a physical manifestation, merely a mind trick.

• .Backstory.

  
  

  • (Inspired by Hera, the jealous goddess, because, why not) Timo's father is a 'player', who had seduced and produced many offspring. His jealous wife finally lost it, and jumped them on the streets one day to shoot Timo's mother, then kill herself. Timo leapt in front of his mother at the last moment to save her. The bullet pierced through the back of his head and lodged in his brain. He was an 'extremely low probability of survival' case who was transferred into A.I. custody. Parts of his brain had been irreparably damaged, and they replaced it with cybernetic parts, infusing within it the ability to see and manipulate brain waves.
    
    
  • He is just desperate to escape this place, as he truly believes that he will die here otherwise. Four months ago, in one of the first experiments on him, they overloaded his mind with the overdrive mode. It caused excruciating pain, with some collateral damages to some of the researchers, that he never found out about. After he was brought back to his room that night, he gradually lost the capability to move and breathe. While in his room alone, he helplessly and terrifyingly started to suffocate to death. The researchers barely managed to resuscitate him when they realised what was happening. It was a minor miracle that he recovered without obvious lasting consequences.

  Modifications:

  Her body was surgically modified and sensors were implanted underneath the skin on her forearms, the tops of her shoulders and on her cheeks. Almost invisible to the naked eye, these areas do display a slight shimmer when under bright light. (This scrolls )
  
  

  Sunlight Absorption:

  By standing in direct sunlight, her sensors allow her to draw energy from the sun itself and store that energy in her body, which then allows her to generate light.
  
  

  Light Manipulation:

  She is able to manipulate the light she generates into physical constructs and golems. Anything she creates has to be something she has seen before and understands the mechanics of. So for example, it would be easier for to create a knife than it would be to create a gun due to the gun having more intricate parts. Any golem she creates has to be an animal or creature she has seen face to face before and cannot be from illustrations. Anything she creates has durability and if it takes too much damage, it will shatter. This rule applies to any shield or barrier she creates.
  
  

  Light Healing:

  Using the light that she generates, she is able to heal others at the cost of using up her own energy. The more severe the wound, the more energy she must use in order to heal it. At this time she is unable to heal herself but may eventually strengthen her ability to achieve this through practice.
  
  

  Will O' Wisps:

  She is able to create floating balls of light that hover over her head and follow after her until she extinguishes them.
  
  

  Divination:

  By gazing into a reflective surface and blanking her mind, she is able to enter a trance-like state and once in this state, she is able to divine the past, present, future. However, her visions are often time in fragments that she must piece together. Mastery of this ability would eventually strengthen the visions but for now she must still practice. These visions often leave her with a headache and if she over-uses this ability, her nose will start bleeding.

  Claire can come across as timid or shy towards strangers, but she is simply withdraw, afraid of letting her true personality show for fear that it will be ill-received. Until she has a chance of warming up to someone, she remains distant but polite. Once she does feel comfortable around someone, Claire has been shown to have a curious nature, never seeming to run out of questions or inquiries. She has a playful demeaner at times, with an adventurous spirit that beckons her into the unknown.
  
  Claire is fairly decent at masking her emotions, which leads others to believe that she is calm and collected but in reality, she is just able to hide how she is truly feeling. A kind-hearted soul by nature, Claire's empathetic tendencies lead her to lending a helping hand whenever she is able and she is unable to turn away from a person in need of help.
  
  Claire can be quite gullible at times, which when combined with her empathetic nature, can lead her to being fooled by those with ill-intentions. Claire can also be a bit of a perfectionist; she tends to be very hard on herself when she is unable to complete a task to her satisfaction and she has a bad habit of comparing her accomplishments (or lack there of) to the accomplishments of others. Due to her masking her emotions at times, instead of confronting her negative emotions in a healthy way, Claire bottles them up until she is eventually over-whelmed by them.

  Backstory

  For as long as she can remember, it has always been Claire and her father. Her mother left and never looked back when she was just a toddler, so her memories of the woman are hazy and fading away with every year that passes. To support them, her father works on making and fixing cybernetic prosthetics, having a prosthetics himself after losing his own leg in an accident when he was younger. Once Claire was old enough, she began helping her father out by making the deliveries for him. It was on such a delivery for her father when Claires small car was hit by another vehicle that had run a light.
  
  Clare was taken to the hospital with severe injuries where she quickly fell into a coma. For a year her father kept her on life-support with the hope that she would wake up but as her twentieth birthday came and went, the medical bills were piling and the medical staff had told him multiple times that Claire most likely wouldn't wake up. With tears streaming down his face, he signed the papers to take her off life-support.
  
  But unbeknownst to her father, Claire was not taken off life-support. The form her father had signed had another, sinister purpose and with his signature, Claire was spirited away to full-fill another purpose.

  A long, thin surgical scar stretches out from their right temple and curls around their ear. In addition, there is a jagged, thick scar at the nape of their neck, raised and about half a centimeter thick at the center. It spreads out in angry, jagged lines about an additional half a centimeter long in all directions, from the impact of their accident.   Before the accident— and it is always before the accident— Arkell was a rather quiet and subdued character. They were not one to seek out the leadership role, the glaring spotlight, and preferred the relative safety of being wholly average. There were no expectations to shoulder, no visions to achieve, no great destiny awaiting them. Instead, they could just simply be as they were, one among the crowd, able to exist peacefully and quietly as they were. Their mother used to joke how before they could learn how to crawl, they were learning how to stand— with two feet firmly on the ground, rooting themselves in the present, in the now even back then. Indeed, Arkell always had their eyes trained on the steps they were taking ahead of themselves, one after the other, finding each stride forward more meaningful and worthy of attention than whatever destination might await them. They were far from a dreamer, head firmly on their shoulders as they forged through life with those they were surrounded with, and the love and joy and care that their community offered. The future was for those who wished to change the world around them, but the present was for Arkell and those that they cared for in the here and now— and that was enough.
  
  Until the accident.
  
  After that, their world was completely upended. No longer were they able to focus on the now, for it was coated in pain— in aches and dizzy spells and exhaustion and fatigue, sharp shooting pain up their arms, the inability to feel anything below the knee, and, the worst of it, the paranoia. The fear that would wrap its hands around their neck and crush the air out of their lungs, that would pin them to their bed in their childhood home as they wondered what would be next— loss of feelings in their fingers? Their jaw? Further losing control of their arms, their legs, their body?   Born the youngest behind an older sister, before their position was usurped a mere two years later by a younger brother, Arkell lived a relatively solitary, though not lonely life. They found it easy to be by themselves, to the point where the other saying their mother always proclaimed was that they did not cry as a child. She would provide tales to anyone who would listen about finding Arkell seated by themselves in a corner of their home, occupying themselves with whatever objects they had grabbed nearby.
  
  They met a few friends in the childhood playground that they all frequented, growing up hand in hand with a smattering of faces that they could recite to a stranger from memory. There was safety, and in that safety, they grew comfortably, settled into the box, the plot, the block that their family lived on, and continued to flourish in their quiet, subtle way.

  Their classic tale continued further into their teenagehood, with nary a snag in sight. They continued to march forward through life with those that they called friends, went home to those they proclaimed family, and the entire time, wanted for nothing. There were first crushes that led to first kisses, first kisses that led to first dates, and first dates that led on and on until their first heartbreak, and the pain of the uncertainty of the future first settled into their bones.
  
  But there was no use to dwell on said future, not when the present held so much. There were choices to be made about what they were going to do as an adult, a concept that was hurtling towards them ever closer with each passing day, a future that they had to think about. In the end, Arkell decided on safety once more, choosing the path of their father, a path that they had seen as they grew up and so therefore knew the steps that ought to be taken.

  Entering the working world of construction was far from difficult for Arkell. They knew the names of the superintendents on the projects they were put on, faces they had seen during their childhood whenever they walked hand in hand with their siblings to see their father on long shifts. They knew the names of their coworkers, too, for similar reasons. While the work was hard and the hours were long, they found nothing to complain about, as this was still their community, their people that they had known for so much of their life.
  
  However, things started to happen.
  
  First, it was the equipment, falling apart far faster than they ought to be, sometimes years before the routine wear-and-tear ought to have stripped the gears as much as they were when they finally refused to work. Then, raw materials would seem different from week to week— perhaps the concrete would be off-color, perhaps the steel beams would seem to visibly bend or wobble, perhaps the glass felt thinner or thicker depending on the piece. Concerns were being raised either through whispers and rumors spread about the construction site or through more official channels, written down on paper and handed over to managers who would laugh and exclaim that this was Elysium. Such concerns of potential corners being cut, of a dark underbelly to what they were doing were tales of old, tales back when the world existed beyond the dome they were all so lucky to have been born and raised in.
  
  Arkell only wavered once in this belief. Another worker, a man named Gwindell, was nearly injured on site when the man lift that he was riding tipped forward dangerously, sending him over the edge. Luckily, he was able to hang on and lower himself to the ground before the arm that lifted him upwards fell apart entirely, revealing aging bolts and screws that did not appear to be the appropriate ones for the machinery. Witnessing the ordeal terrified them in a way they had never felt before, enough so that they nearly submitted an incident report, demanding an explanation as to why someone was put in such danger..

  It was a summer day, like so many others, when lives would be irreversibly changed. The sky was blue, as it had been the day before and the day before that and it would be again the next day. Arkell entered the site they were working on, toting their lunch in one hand and listening to the early morning mumbling of their coworkers, their complaints and their victories as they began the day as they always did. Arriving at their stations, the worksite came to life once more, the sound of machinery filling the air as they labored to continue the work on a pedestrian bridge, intended to aid people in crossing over a busy intersection without concern of injury. The roads had been redirected while construction occurred, and there was mounting pressure to finish the job so they could be reopened, lessening the strain of traffic on the populace.
  
  There would soon be far more pressing concerns.
  
  As midday crawled into the afternoon, activity continued on as normal. There was no sign of anything amiss, which made the sudden screeching, groaning sound that cut through the air, through the chatter and the rumble of activity and made everyone halt where they stood. It was incredible, how quickly the normalcy of the day shattered in an instant. One second, they were standing on the bridge, aiding in placing down the appropriate support beams necessary, the next, they were staring up at the clear blue sky.
  
  It took a moment for the pain to set in, the searing, sudden pain that ricocheted from the base of their skull down their spine, charging through their nerves and lighting their limbs on fire. It took a moment for the sound of screaming to set in, the high-pitched, sharp sounds that crackled through the sky, drowning out the rumble of continued catastrophe as parts of the bridge continued to fall apart, trapping workers, killing workers minute by minute, second by second.
  
  They do not know how long they lay there, filled to the brim with pain, listening to the lamentations of their community around them. They do not know who it was that extracted them from the mess, carefully placed them in the back of an ambulance to be whisked away to the hospital— lucky, because they were alive when they were found. They do not know who it was that pressed their hand to their chest and assured them, “We will take care of you. Do not worry.”
  
  All they knew was that something had happened, something that would shatter their mind as badly as their body.

  Immediately, their mother rushed to their side, followed up by their father, their younger brother, then older sister, aunts and uncles and extended family that knew their face, that cared for their well-being and were horrified by the tragedy— how unimaginable it was, how much damage there had been. Sadly, there was even more to come.
  
  What exactly happened, no one seemed to know. What exactly happened to Arkell, even fewer people seemed to know. They were initially discharged to the care of their parents with instructions to keep an eye on them, to see if there would be any more symptoms, if the large, sharp wound that their body now carried would cause more harm, or if the bones and the bruises that they had would heal and then this could be put in the past, like so many desperately wanted to.
  
  Immediately, things went downhill.
  
  Certainly, the bones mended and the bruises faded, but their mind was shattered. Paranoia filled their life as they attempted to reconcile what had happened to what they believed so deeply. Day after day, they lay in their bed in their childhood home, or sat in the same corners they did growing up, gaze a thousand miles away as they considered all that they knew— the whispers, the rumors, the man lift and the chaos that almost came. What had happened? What had happened? Was there truth in the doubts, in the concerns, in the prodding questions that were asked over and over again?
  
  Slowly, Arkell deteriorated. Slowly, their mind became a prison— and their body soon followed. They lost feeling in their toes, then their feet, then their ankles, snaking upwards and upwards until they could not feel their body anymore. At the same time, the pain that they had felt the day of the accident returned to their arms, sharp, shooting pain that made their eyes water and the prospect of doing anything impossible. Their jaw went slack and could not be closed on their own, their legs folded underneath them with no warning, their fingers twitched and jerked without their permission. When they were finally taken to the hospital, slack and lifeless, they were whisked away behind closed doors, and they swore— swore that the same face came into view and said the same words once more, though this time, there was something sinister in the voice; “We will take care of you.     The scientists that cut open their brain also manipulated their neurons to be constantly firing, opening the sodium and potassium channels within to cause simultaneous depolarization, repolarization, and hyperpolarization. This would theoretically give them the ability to think faster, leaping to conclusions at a far faster pace than the average human.     A side effect of the meddling done on Arkell’s literal mind has somehow managed to cross the right wires to give them the ability of perfect recall, a feat that the scientists themselves are uncertain of how they managed to achieve. While they cannot recall every moment, ones that may be distinctive (traumatic, perhaps) are permanently seared into their memory, able to be called upon at any given moment. The moment is crystal clear, a photograph in time that they can examine from any angle, any amount of time, picking out details from the background that they may not have noticed before.     Arkell’s heightened neural function has resulted in an electrical charge that can now be quantifiably detected from them. Slowly but surely over the year that they have been experimented on, they have learned to direct some of the electrical charge of their permanently firing neurons to certain nerves, particularly down their arms and out into their fingertips, which they can then reach out to touch and disrupt any other sort of electrical charge nearby, overloading and shutting it down. This process requires a bit of focus, but has been becoming easier— however, discharging this spark can be quite painful, and so they do not enjoy doing so. In addition, they are able to absorb the electrical charge around them to similarly shut down electronic systems, though again, this is rather painful, as it must still go through their skin and muscle before reaching their nervous system, which will absorb this additional charge.     A recent development, emerging from the work that has led them to be able to perform feats of electrokinesis, has been the ability for Arkell to detect electrical stimuli around them. The generation of their “sparks” through electrokinesis gives them a brief moment in which they are able to sense all electronics within an increasingly large radius about them, currently at about ten feet, or approximately three meters. The items they have been able to detect have ranged from as small and weak as battery-powered recording devices in the pockets of the scientists and doctors watching them, to as powerful as the machinery they are hooked up to. The favorite of four, attention was lavished upon him, compliments and praise falling easily from the lips of all adults that happened upon him, finding him ridiculously charming with his bright smile and eyes, the way he always seemed to be so eager. As such, he can be somewhat grating to others, always demanding to be the center of attention, always commanding attention, elbowing his way to the spotlight and finding it trained on him immediately. This has resulted in him becoming self-centered to an absolute fault— and unable to connect to those around him. He struggles to make any genuine, deep connection with others, always wanting more for himself, oftentimes taking and taking until, finally, they leave, fed up with constantly pouring into a bottomless cup. He is, just below the surface, an incredibly lonely figure, one that does not know how exactly to connect to the world around him, the people around him, even though he desperately craves it.
  
  However, since the experiments have begun, he has turned far more volatile. The charm has been sloughed off, revealing the loneliness that has been hidden underneath. The fear of never quite reaching others, the anger that he has been left behind so many times has broached the surface. It is harder for him to present the façade he has worn for so long, the smile no longer coming to his lips so easily, the crinkles around his eyes no longer obeying him, the laughter stripped from his throat and buried beyond him.

He made friends so easily, procuring a gaggle of them wherever he went, his cheerful and outgoing attitude drawing others towards him— and away from others, something he was keen to notice and fortify against. The cracks that would stretch across the relationship he had with each of his siblings would truly begin to set in here, the strain from the attention that he hoarded translated to the emptiness that they were all faced with. Arguments began to crop up with increasing volatility and volume, arguments that usually ended in a simple chiding, a reminder that they were family and they ought to tolerate each other for no other reason than the blood that ran through their veins was the same.
  
  His focus on himself also caused him to miss the tension that was growing between his mother and father, a clash that was made worse by the fights that he was having with his siblings. Blame for the shouting matches that seemed to start at a drop of a hat were laid at one another’s feet, though never brought to the children who were attempting to tear each other into shreds. His quips were lauded as brilliant by the writers, his sense of style was commended by the costumers, and his poise was always, always panegyrized as the ideal that the rest of his coworkers ought to live up to. This did not come without consequences, as many of his fellow news anchors found the fact that they worked with the clear favorite, both amongst the management and the populace, meant that there was nowhere for them to go. Many came and went, a revolving door that became a self-fulfilling prophecy— because no one else was staying for very long, he became the true anchor of the station, the face of the news that everyone else utilized as a benchmark.
  
  Meanwhile, the arguments that he had with his siblings grew worse, the tension between his parents reaching a breaking point as well, even though most of them did not live with one another anymore. It overflowed one day, when his older brother was driving him and his younger sister to an event or another— to see their mother, one of her shows, it does not matter. What matters is that the argument began as it always did— an accusation against him, then their father, then their mother, of unfaithfulness, of unfairness, of betraying the idea of home and wholeness for the thrill of existence. It was a familiar circle of accusations, a familiar scene that they played out again and again, but this time—
  
  This time, there was a mistake. A red light passed, too much to drink, whatever, but there was suddenly glass and screaming metal and then just screaming and—
  
  He woke up different, the lingering anger from the argument that he had with his siblings sitting, brewing in his veins.

From the moment it was inserted and routed into his optic nerve, it has given him the ability to see clearer than the average human eye, permitting him to spot objects and zoom in on them so long as they are within his line of sight— though this strains his nerve the farther away it is. In addition, he has been given heat-vision, which permits him to detect the outline of living creatures around him, so long as they are not hiding behind difficult to permeate surfaces.     In an effort to increase adrenaline production to force a permanent fight-or-flight response, Ryan has had his adrenal glands enlarged.     The bones in Ryan’s fingers, forearms, shins, and knees have been modified to be far denser than the average human. They can take upwards of three times as much pressure as a normal human without fracturing.     Yet another set of hormones that the scientists wished to increase in Ryan were HGH and testosterone, the idea being it would permit him to build muscle and strength far easier than the average person.   Rayne’s face was framed with their blonde hair, something they had always taken good care of. It was usually sleeked back into a ponytail though it changed day to day.   Rayne has a pair of wings on their back, granting them the ability of flight. Over their time being experimented on they were forced to spend time in areas with thinner oxygen to get used to flying high up. The technology was connected to their neurons so they have complete control over their wings, alike one of their limbs. The mechanical part of their wings is also covered with a strong metal so they don’t get easily damaged. When open, the wings are a large target and can hinder Rayne’s movement since they aren't used to the extra weight on their back.
  
  
  
  A small device was implanted at Rayne’s nape, which can create a space around them where if anything living enters, they will become invisible. Any sound also doesn’t emit from anything inside. If anyone steps inside the area where the device is active, they then will be able to see the people inside and hear everything. Overusing it will drain Rayne’s energy and whilst they can alter the size of zone, it exhausts them more depending on how much they alter it.   An empath was a good term to use to describe Rayne. They possessed an uncanny ability to recognise and understand other people’s feelings. This, in turn, allowed them to develop strong relationships with most people they met. They knew what to say and when to laugh, but that didn’t mean they had heinous intentions. In truth, they just wanted to be liked and savoured knowing that someone trusted them and genuinely enjoyed their company.
  
  
  
  To strangers, they always appeared warm and friendly, a pleasant person unless you do something particularly heinous. They found it easy to talk to people and they were comfortable with approaching strangers and starting a conversation. Another notable thing about Rayne is their people-pleaser nature, which means that oftentimes they let people walk over them, being more of a passive individual. They are willing to bend over backwards for others and try not to cause any drama, even if they are in the right. In the past, people have taken advantage of Rayne because of this, exploiting their want for approval from others.
  
  
• Childhood

  Rayne was born the youngest child to a wealthy family consisting of their older brother, their mother who was a socialite, and their father who worked an office job. Even as child, Rayne felt they were more of a trophy than a kid. Their mother would parade them around to different events, showing them off to friends and strangers alike. They were encouraged to be cheerful and charming by their mother and Rayne happily took in all the cooing and compliments directed their way whenever they did so. From observing their mother, they realised what people liked and what they didn’t, what you should compliment them on, and how you should behave when in the company of different people.
  
  

  Teenagehood

  
  
  Soon, Rayne began to attend high school. The fake exuberant persona they had put up so many times didn’t fade here either. Compared to their classmates, they weren’t smart, sporty, or particularly talented and were just another brick in the wall. To someone whose brother was praised for their academic talents and whose mother was constantly in the spotlight, it felt off to Rayne. So, they did what they had always done, appealing to their classmates, and finding it remarkably easy to be liked. They savoured the attention, and the nice words and soon, they pushed away the introverted, shyer, and blunter part of themself. They realised their people-pleaser nature and thrived on knowing that others enjoyed their company, and that others trusted them.
  
  
  
  

  Adulthood

  
  
  The mounting pressure of graduating high school increased and eventually, Rayne went to university and majored in marketing. They stayed in touch with friends and worked hard at university, everything people would expect of a “golden child”. Life was going smoothly for them until they had a sudden cardiac arrest, something that was a trope in their family. They were rushed to a hospital by bystanders and were going to be proclaimed dead but barely escaped death, though arguably arrived at a worse fate.
  
  
  
  The eight months they spent being experimented on blurred together-excruciating pain flaring through their body. Around five months in, when the unnatural weight of their wings was attached to their body, the hope Rayne had clung to that something, anything would happen to rescue them whether it was death or not disappeared.
