A weapon! James needed to find a weapon! Something! Anything! He couldn't die! He couldn't die! What did he have! There were no weapons! None physical! But... there was one weapon! A weapon that had got him out of a million things! His voice! He opened his mouth and instead if saying something diplomatic... he begged for his life.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it! Please stop!"

"Sorry?" His attacker said. "You're not sorry, you miserable excuse for a human. If you were sorry you wouldn't have done it in the first place."

"No! No please!" James shouted. "Please don-"

He didn't finish that sentence. He would never finish any sentence ever again. Good.

May sat down at a small table in the Library with a manilla folder in hand. It contained information on the murder, the suspect, the victim, and pretty much everything else. The reason he was perusing this in a library instead of in his office (which means dormroom) was because he had aranged to meet his opponent here. If he was to fight a courtbattle tomorrow he at least wanted to meet who he was up against. Hopefully not anybody too terrible. This needed to be a fair fight.

He opened the folder and took a look at it. The victim was one James Hamm. The suspect and defendant is Sheena Vixen, his former girlfriend. The cause of the death was a stab wound in his chest. The murder weapon, a steak knife, had been found embedded in the victim's chest. It bears the defendant's fingerprints. That all seemed to be in order. The only thing really missing was a photo of the scrime scene.

Redd sat alone in the library. Much like May, who was sitting only a few tables away, Redd also possessed one such manilla folder. His, however, lay unopened on the table. What was in his hands instead was nothing more than a fantasy novel about wizards or something.

He sat with one arm behind his head, studying the contents of the childish novel. He had arranged to meet with his opponent, sure, but upon finding this book, he simply could not pull his eyes away from it. A good few minutes passed, well past the meeting time, when Redd had finally set down the book, and stood up from the table.

After taking a moment to stretch, Redd picked up the folder and headed over to the table, at which sat his opponent in the courtroom. Redd shoots the girl(?) a grin, and finally speaks to them.

"Sorry to have kept you waiting, babe. Got a bit too... held up with something, y'know? So, what's someone like you want with me?" He raised his eyebrows at them, grinning that stupid grin. How not everyone found him intolerable was a complete mystery.

May facepalmed internally. Of course it was him. Redd Vanderbilt, infamous for his low intelligence but amazing people skills. The one guy guarenteed to get the defendant a guilty verdict, even if she were innocent. Which meant hoping she was guilty so as not to have someone punished unfairly. May was only interested in the conviction of the guilty and the freedom of the innocent.

While all this went on internally, externally May gave Redd an unreadable look. "I want to discuss the case." He said, resisting the immediate urge to either angrily correct Redd on his gender or punch him in the face. Or both. "I want to know what you make of all this evidence and if you believe in your client's innocence."

The most annoying thing about this whole immediate thing was that Redd was unreadable. As good as a poker face as May had, and he had a damn good one, Redd managed to one up him with his natural poker face in the form of his stupid grin. It was impossible to tell what he was really thinking underneath that. And the most annoying thing, he couldn't wipe that grin off his face if the defendant was innocent. The best he could hope for is to knock him around a bit during the trial. Or that the defendant was guilty.

Redd chuckled, looking at May, before pulling out a chair at the table and plopping right down into his seat carelessly. He leaned back in the chair, arms behind his head, and opened his mouth.

"That really all you want to talk to me about? I'm hurt~!" He brought one of his hands in front of his chest, and feigned a dejected face, before laughing and returning his hands back to it's position behind his head. "Nah, doesn't bother me. S'pose I can't steal everyone's heart."

After a moment, he sat up, and leaned forward toward the table, arms crossed on sitting on its surface. "Don't know," he shrugged. At the very least, he was blunt. "But, does it really matter? It's my job, isn't it? Proving innocence? If she is innocent, doesn't really matter what I believe, right? 'Sides, I believe in myself well enough."

Damn he had a point. That was exactly his job. Still, lives were hanging in the balance. And there was always the chance of letting a guilty person go free or an innocent person be punished. May needed to figure that out before the trial. And maybe find more evidence.

Though, a slightly more immediate and pressing annoyance was that Redd was so damn charming! It was annoying how likable he was. May wanted to hate him but all he could muster was a mild dislike. No wonder he acted like the king of the world. With that charisma he probably was. And with that charisma he might easily be able to sway the judge. Hopefully May could use some intimidation as a counter and the judge could stay neutral.

None of these thoughts showed on May's face, of course. His poker face remained as stoic as usual. "What about the evidence?" He said. "What do you make of it? Because taking it all into account it more or less proves your client's guilt."

May had yet to do a full investigation so all he had was what he had been told and what he had been told pointed straight to guilt. What stumped him, though, was why noone had prefirmed a handwriting test on that note yet. That seemed like a pretty crucial thing to do.

"As I said, no idea. Seems pretty simple. Some guy got stabbed, apparently over revenge. Only concussive evidence is the fingerprints." He shrugged again, and set down his folder, opening it up. "You've seen the defendant, right? Hard to think she'd be guilty, a pretty little thing like her. She's almost as cute as you, y'know?" He chuckled his charming chuckle, showing off his shiny teeth.

Was he flirting? Hard to tell with him, he did this with most girls. And some boys, of course. Either way, he was certainly acting like it. "C'mon, you can't really tell me you could imagine her killing anyone." He looked back down at the folder, checking out the photo of the sticky note. "Don't quite understand this either. Why'd the killer leave something like this behind?"

He looks back up toward May. "So, you gonna check out the crime scene? I was planning on heading over there later. Wanted to finish up some reading before heading out." He closed up his evidence folder, and stood up. "If you wanted me to come long, I wouldn't be opposed to spending some more time with my 'Opponent'"

May sighed and put the case file back on the table. "No, I couldn't."

It was true. He had never met the defendant before but they went to the same school and he had seen her around before. She always seemed super upbeat and almost naive at times.

"Nevertheless," He continued. "I still have to do my job. Which means I'm not just going to put on a weak performance just because I believe that she's innocent."

He had done that thing again. Where he referred to court as a "performance". It wasn't a performance. It was a life or death thing. But his parents had always drilled it into his head that everything was a performance and the world's a stage yadda yadda yadda and he's gotten it stuck in his head. It was like that stupid playing card deck that... he was playing with it right now, wasn't he.

He looked down and sure enough he had unconsciously taken out the playing cards and begun shuffling. Which meant he must have been staring into space for a good 30 seconds. He put the playing cards away and stood up, clearing throat.

"Yes, I am going to the crime scene. And yes you can tag along if you want." Maybe he'll accidentally trip over new evidence. May thought, half jokingly. "I have to ask the detective there why they haven't analyzed the handwriting on that note, anyway. I swear if I could cut his paycheck..."

Kara was in the library too, though nestled in the back, away from the rest of the ramble. The murder case ...... she had wanted to take the case, she really did but it looked like that the Redd boy got here before she did. He and the girl (?) were discussing points right now. Give what you may about Redd’s character, his upbringing, his spoilered demeanor, his stupidity - he sure was charming. Charming enough to perhaps win this case. Though this “May” character seemed like a tough as nails opponent. In truth, part of her didn’t care if the culprit was actually innocent or not, a job was a job, she was there to prove to the court that her case was innocent, regardless. The other part, well let’s go to the other part.

The others were standing up now. She stood up to and walked toward them.

Eventually Tom found his way at the library. He seemed to move with incredible purpose, keeping a incredibly cold look on his face. .As it turned out..he had been doing a great deal of research late into the hours of the morning. He had been looking at other cases to keep his mind sharp, and trying to see what the "Logic Flows" were for the prosecuting sides in each case and why, the results had turned out the way they had. Yes it was true, looking at other cases that were past gone for the nuances of what was used in them was considered part of his "Recreational" activity. It wasn't like the prosecutor didn't ever go out and do other things, he was just..quite serious about his job..and of course as mentioned keeping his mind sharp.

To Tom his job was to simply get a guilty verdict. Whether or not the defendant was actually guilty or not, was none of his concern, under the legal system it was his responsibility to get a guilty verdict if it was within his power in the court. There were of course well known cases where the actual person was found during the three day periods that trials that were contrary to who was originally though to be guilty. However this didn't really change Tom's outlook, as in that case he'd simply end up prosecuting against them. There were rules that had to be upheld, justice was required.

As he eventually entered the library, he knew very well that the time he was arriving was off, but that didn't really matter a lot. He didn't really have much to say to anyone in there, he knew what the case they were interested in already. Tom didn't even really say a word to anyone as he entered just looking the information over, knowing that he'd need to check out the crime scene momentarily, so he could start creating logic flows of his own, for the ultimate assault upon the defense. Tom had somewhat of an idea of what he was getting himself into when he briefly glanced over at the others in the library, noting that it seemed like they were bound to be going shortly. As far as he was concerned Redd was mostly talk, sometimes obnoxious objections here and there, mixed in with throwing money around. It was safe to say that Tom wasn't really impressed with what he'd heard about Redd. Then his eyes would gaze over towards May...who from what he heard was actually rather competent as a prosecutor which was a bonus in his book, as Tom wasn't really interested in incompetent prosecutors or attorneys . Tom then promptly looked at Kara, who quite frankly he didn't know much about at all. After all of this he'd simply gaze at his own folder briefly, before he'd literally shift himself towards out the door, not that long after he came in to look around briefly to head to the crime scene, using deductive reasoning that was where most were probably heading..All he knew was that he was taking the case...and whatever unfolded unfolded, as Tom..with a steely glint of conviction in his eyes went to go and examine the scene..

May didn't wait around for Redd to answer. He headed straight for the dining hall where the crime had taken place. The crime scene was, as was to be expected, a mess. Chairs were strewnneverywhere and several crakced plates lied on the floor. If May had to guess that meant the cleaning staff were lazy since the murder happened after midnight and noone had cleaned up. Nothing else.

Additionally, the crime scene was splattered with blood. It was all over the murder scene, especially the table where the vicitm had died. Wait a second. Blood? That wasn't... never mind. It wasn't his job to figure that stuff out. He had to let the defense sort that out, unfourtanetly.

The detective for the case was standing where the body had been. What was his name? Ah, yes, Detctive Di Op. what a weird name. Though, it wasn't really like May could judge.

5c6e5126164dcee03844c4acb44c7158.jpg
May walked up to him. "Sorry, little lady." Detective Op said upon seeing him. "This crime scene is closed. Official personnel only." He had a smirk on his face. One that May didn't appreciate. He was at least a head taller than May but that didn't matter. May pulled out his badge and pulled the detective down to his height.

"My name is May!" He growled. "I'm the prosecuting attorney on this case! You will adress me as sir! And I! Am not! A girl! Got it!"

Detective Op seemed completely caught off guard but he nodded. He was playing with his handcuffs awkwardly, clearly having not expected this situation. May would have to see if this was a behavior he repeated under other such situations.

"Good." May said, calming down. "Now, I need to know. Why have you not gotten a handwriting analysis on the sticky note?"

"We did." The detective said. "But the handwriting wasn't actually handwriting. The sticky note was printed."

Printed? It had been printed? Why hadn't he been informed of this. He figured it would have been in the court record. Well, it was important either way.

Court Record Updated
"Alright then. Next question: why doesn't the court record include a photo of the crime scene?"

"It doesn't?" Detective Op said. He looked genuinely surprised. "I wasn't to,d about this. Why isn't there a photo in the court record! Hold on for a second! I'll go get it for you. Look around the crime scene all you want." He paused a moment before adding in. "Sir."

Redd had followed along, only after taking that book about wizards and such from his prior table. Heading to the dining hall, with May quite a bit ahead of him. He strolled in, minutes after the prosecution, and flashed his Attorney's Badge at the detective along with an award-winning smile.

He didn't wait for a response from him. It was obvious he was busy talking with May. Didn't wanna interrupt their little conversation. He looked around the crime scene. Bit gruesome, but it didn't seem to phase Redd all that much. The Vanderbilts had a reputation to uphold, and he couldn't be lookin' weak while on the job.

He picked up a cracked plate, looking it over, intently studying this plate. And then he dropped it, letting it shatter against the floor. He turned to look at May. Seemed the detective had gone off. Redd opened his mouth.

"Hey," he started, "seems like the victim and a killer had a bit of a fight, huh? All sorts of stuff all thrown about. Weird, I couldn't imagine such a large guy not bein' able to fight against a precious little thing like her."

He picked up a chair, preferably a clean one, and sat it down properly, sitting himself down in it properly as well. "Plenty of blood too." He sat there, looking over the crime scene, and seemingly thought of something. His face was filled with a bit of confusion, not an expression he wore often, despite his... subpar intelligence.

"A lot of blood, huh... I glanced over the autopsy report, but wasn't he only stabbed once?" Redd sat there, twiddling his thumbs. It seemed he had an idea, but couldn't quite piece together just what it was he was thinking of.

May looked over the autopsy report again and rubbed his chin. What Redd said was true, which surprised May. Which meant something was amiss. Should he ask the detective to have the lab guys preform a second autopsy. That seemed cheap but maybe it was necessary.

"Hey little miss!" May was startled put of his thoughts by the return of Detective Op with a phrase he didn't care for. May turned around and glared daggers at the detective who quickly backpedaled. "Er, sorry sir."

"It's fine, detective." May said, regaining his composure. "Do you have the photo for me?"

"Sure do." The Detective replied. "I always deliver." The detective handed him the photo for the court record as well as a map of the crime scene before asking, "What about the Defense Attorney over there? Do you want me to give him a photo and map too?"

"Wouldn't be very fair if we didn't so yes."

Detective Op headed over to Redd to give him a copy of the photo and map too.

Court Record Updated

Redd sat there, staring into space, the gears in his head slowly turning, when his thought process was interrupted by the detective handing him the photo and map. He nodded, and took them, slipping them into his court record without taking even a second to look at them. "Ah, thank you."

"Sure thing." said the detective back. He stood there for a moment, Redd quickly returning to the mental processing, seemingly ignoring Di Op. The detective opened his mouth to say something, but Redd quickly cut him off.

"Ah, right, you're excused, thank you." He flashed another grin, and turned his gaze back to the crime scene. "Where was I... blood... blood... Ah! That's right! There was too much blood for a single stab wound. Maybe... There was another murder victim!" Redd seemed exceedingly proud of his over-confident self.

"Yes, there is too much blood for there to be one victim," Kara mused, looking upon the bloody scene, "and there was clearly a struggle, which is odd, as the suspect is far too small to actually successfully fight someone. I know I'm stating the obvious, but it should be stated."

Kara sighed and looked upon the two, Redd and May have not even noticed her approaching the crime scene, and she was furious but she kept her fury in check. That didn't stop her from whispering in her head. 'It hurts doesn't it, sweetheart, that the dumb lout Redd got the case intead of you.' The disembodied voice crackled in that overly sweet version of her own voice, like the Joker only somehow creepier, 'that sucks, doesn't it? Hhehehhehehehehehehehheheh.'

"What? Another... what?" Another murder victim. Redd had to be joking. But then again, this was Redd he was thinking about. That just didn't... what... May's brain temporarily seemed to temporarily shut it's self down before it was jolted back online when a female voice spoke.

May turned to see a girl who looked vaguely familiar. Maybe a classmate? She appeared to just be standing there. She definitely seemed strange because, again, she was just standing there. And also because she had agreed with Redd. May walked over too her.

"You okay?" He asked. He wasn't really all that concerned for her, if he was being honest with himself. He just didn't want random people hanging out at the crime scene.

PolikShadowbliss PolikShadowbliss KairiNyaa KairiNyaa

"I'm fine. I'm a Defense Attroney." She said somewhat lamely, lazily flashing her badge. "And there are two possibilities for this bloody scene. One: There was more than one victim or two: The victim was stabbed mutiple times but considering the autopisy, that is not possible so we--- I'm leaning toward there being another victim. For now. That might change with evidence."

'Smooth sistah. Hehheheheheheheheehheh.'

"That has to be it! There's way too much blood for a single stab, there's gotta be another body with more wounds!" Redd, still very excited with himself, cracked his knuckles and stood up.

A voice spoke up, and he turned to who it came from. A girl, one that wasn't May. He smiled at her, chuckling, and put his hand up for a high-five. "See, she gets it!"After Kara, presumably, left him hanging, he brought his arm down and took another look at here.

He tilted his head like confused puppy, a description not too far off from the truth, and asked "Hey, are you... supposed to be here, darling? This is kind of an, active crime scene? And I don't think you're the prostituting attorney."

That... that was just... that sentence should not... just... no. No, no, and no. That sentence should never be uttered by anyone's mouth ever. May was this close to losing his composure and visibly gagging out of pure disgust. It was just... so wrong.

"Redd, I need you to take a moment to look at that sentence and then fix it." May said. That was just... no.

KairiNyaa KairiNyaa

Kara folded her arms. "They haven't kicked me out yet," she said, her red eye staring down into Red's. She shrugged. "Might as well help, fellow attroney." You are gonna need it!

Redd tilted his head in confusion, once again, this time toward May. "Huh...?" He thought about it long and hard, but came up empty. "Nah, don't think I missed anything, hun."

Turning back toward Kara, leaving May as she was, he responded. "Sorry Darlin', I don't think I need much help with this one. Seems obvious that our little miss couldn't have killed James. All I gotta do is prove it, and that seems easy enough. And the first step is finding that second dead body."

Arrogant ass! If he calls me Darlin' one more time, I might go SJW on this shit!
' Ohhhhhh sweet! Can I take over?'

Shut up Pink.

"Whatever you say, Redd." She scoffs before walking to the crime scene, looking at the blood. "If there is another body, it definitely isn't here, in the crime scene, if there's a body at all."

May sighed. He was going to have to play along with this, wasn't he. Or, at least, not be dismissive of their "theory."

"Alright then." He said. "so let's assume for a second that you are, in fact, correct. If there's a second body, what happened to it? How could the killer possibly have moved the second body? Why would the killer move the second body? They seemed pretty intent on letting it be known that they had killed someone, since they left a note."

May knew that they probably wouldn't answer those. Save it for court. They probably needed to prepare for the defense. And hoepfully Redd would let Kara, who seemed competent, help him. Meanwhile, May should probably be getting off to interrogating the suspect.

The more Kara looked around the crime scene, the more the theory that there could be a second body began to slowly disminish into doubt. Because May had a point. If there was a second body? Where was it? Why would the killer hide it? And most of all, why haven't the police found it? The more she thought about it, the less likely it seemed. But Redd was animate about this theory. Clearly.

Redd listened along with May, nodding as she spoke, hmm'ing and haa'ing. After a moment of 'contemplation,' he opens up his mouth. "Well, we are in a dining hall. You know, for eating and stuff? Maybe that's where the second body went! Ha hah ha!"

He laughed, showing off his pure white teeth. Was... he joking? It sure seemed like it, but... it was sort of hard to tell with him. "There might not have been a second victim, but I got some other ideas." He stretched out a bit, standing tall. "See you in the courtroom, babe." He winked at May, and shot a couple fingerguns.

Kara looked at Redd in disgust. May is clearly a man dressing up as a woman, you can easily see that. Is this man really that dumb? No matter. I need to help. Otherwise this case is doomed. For that I need more evidence. With that, she decides to go to the witness, see what he had to say. According to the Court Reports, the witness was the victim's boyfriend. It could have been him, she thought, almost all murders are committed by someone they know. But blindly accusing him will get nowhere.
