Eclipse caste and Essence Plethora

I guess it's totally up to the ST. Personally, I'd make it peripheral. I've yet to see an effect that boosts personal essence anywhere in the game.

you could always split it like they do with mortals 3 personal 7 peripheral. Or if you want to add some randomness to it make it a willpower roll to see how many of the 10 points go into personal (how much of the spirit charm they can master).

Unless you don't have a peripheral pool. In which case, it's all personal.

You have always been able to use motes from which ever pool you wanted at any time - unless of course an effect stated othervice.
 
I see the matter in the following way:


1.1. Gods are made of Essence.


1.2. Gods never trigger Anima elements when using Essence.


1.3. Not triggering Anima and being your own are characteristics of Personal essence.


Conclusion 1: gods use only personal Essence.


2.1 Gods can't boost their Peripheral Essence as they have none.


Conclusion 2: Essence Plethora boosts Personal Essence when used by gods.


3.1. Every spirit charm an Eclipse learns, he learns in the way the god that taught it uses.


3.2. Every Essence Plethora a god uses boosts only Personal Essence.


Conclusion 3: when learned by Eclipsed, Essence Plethora boosts personal Essence.


That's my point of view. It's by no means Canon, it's just a conclusion I find reasonable. On the other side, as it's mechanically more balanced if it adds on Peripheral, in my games it would add only to Peripheral Essence, because  I tend to value mechanics and the Golden Rule over logic or the System.
 
That kind of arguement is too circular.  Its like saying, Bob goes to school, and Bob is short.  So, everyone that goes to school is short.  It is a line of observations that requires a specific answer, and tends to overlook outside information that may indicate a different result.
 
Why not just go with Peripheral Essence Pool?


If you want it to have a mixture of personal and peripheral pools, there ARE ratios build into the essence calcuation, which would be 3 for personal, and 7 for peripheral.

agreed, I think it would be far to unbalancing to allow an Eclipse walking around with an immense personal pool (and thus able to operate with anima flare far too easilly)... on another tangent (yet sort of connected) what book are 2ed Celestial Lions included in? I just purchased Roll of Glorious Divinity and was abit dissapointed they weren't in it, have they been released in Siddies? or will I have to wait for tCoCD: Yu-Shuan?
 
I imagine they'll be in Yu-Shan, though they get a mention in MOEP: Sidereals, I think.


Also, I'd houserule the 3/7 ration of personal/peripheral essence for an Eclipse or Moonshadow learning Essence Plethora, for the simple reason that if any Exalt is running around with a massive personal pool then they can use charms constantly without worrying about anima flare, which makes things a bit too easy, in my opinion.
 
They are mentioned in the MoEP: The Sidereals, yes, but only that: mentioned. When they are explaining the audits, they say that getting in the way of a Celestial Lion may be a hi-severity offense.
 
I guess its really up to your preferences as a ST.


Splitting them sounds fair to me, or just straight into peripheral if you want to be a bit more strict.


Do also consider the fact, that an eclipse/moonshadow is paying quite a bit more xp for the spirit charm, especially when they could go buy the solar peripheral essence pool adder for cheaper. If you want to go easier on them, allow them to add all of it into their personal - but be careful, they'll be running around constantly using charms while their more subdued circlemates cast envious glances in their direction.


If I was running a game atm and that question came up, I would probably end up taking the tougher stance and making them put it all into their peripheral pool, as exampled by the already existant solar charm that does just that.
 
You could also randomize it. Roll # of dice equal to the motes the charm grants. 1-5 personal, 6-10 peripheral, or different ratios depending on personal taste. Maybe not the best solution, but it could potentially stop any whining from a player that doesn't agree with the ST ruling it either purely personal/peripheral.
 
The question itself was in favor of an eclipse that would be starting the game with 7/10 of his charms spirit charms, due to the fact that as soon as he exalted, he was immediately snatched up by the Rogue Celestial Lion that ruled his town (Golden Spire and its Celestial Lion lord mentioned in 1e games of divinity) and trained as his own tool.


which charm is a solar peripheral adder? I haven't taken the chance to look through ALL the 2e charms yet.
 
The Solar Lore charm Immanent Solar Glory adds 10 motes to the Solar's pool and can be taken a number of times equal to the Solar's essence. The essence can only be refilled with Essence regaining charms or by spending an hour inspiring people or engaging in administrative tasks, which refreshes 1 mote per hour. The motes gained from this charm cannot be commited to Artifacts, though nothing prevents them from being commited to charms, Sorcery, or Necromancy.

There's also a Lunar version that operates under slightly different circumstances, but otherwise has the same effect. Silver Lunar Resolution I think it was.

Indeed there is. Of course, a truly dedicated Eclipse could get all three...each one a total number of times equal to their essence. That'd be a sick essence pool. Too bad for them that it'd cost tons of xp...likely not worth the expense 'til you're pretty high xp anyhow.
