War, dissonance. Peace, harmony. Both are two sides of the same coin, as much as people may attempt to deny it, one cannot live without the other. Where there is peace, blood must be shed to obtain it. This is balance, this is what the Avatar; wielder of the four elements strives to keep amongst the four nations. However, even with the almighty power of the Avatar, there will always be someone who wishes to disrupt this balance and attempt to rule the four nations under one banner. Although no matter what obstacles stand in their way, in the end, the Avatar will always turn out victorious and bring back balance. This was the case until recently, usually every one hundred years or so, a new Avatar is born, and within a matter of a decade or two the knowledge of who the new Avatar is spread across the land. It's been nearly a hundred and fifty years since the previous Avatar passed away and there have been no signs of who or where the new Avatar is, all that is known is that the Avatar was born a member of the Water Tribe as the previous Avatar was an Air Nomad.
As expected, it wouldn't be long before the absence of the Avatar caused those with mischievous intentions to take action. One of these individuals just so happen to have been a rather well-respected nobleman that was part of the Fire Nation, not only that but he was a very skilled Firebender as well. At the time, the current Fire Lord had been none other than Iroh or otherwise known amongst many as The Dragon of the West. Under his rule, peace was established among the four nations. However, with this nobleman and his intentions of making the Fire Nation the ruling force throughout the land and with his respected name, he was able to rally the citizens of the Fire Nation to overthrow Iroh from his position. Rather than attack his own people and enforce his rule, Iroh decided to flee for both his own safety as well as the safety of his people. Going into exile from his own nation and hiding away, he found his way to Ba Sing Se where the Earth King had taken him in as a refugee due to their positive relationship with one another. Giving Iroh his own tea shop to run while he remains in hiding.
Meanwhile, under the new rule of the current Fire Lord, within a matter of months, the once nobleman now turned Fire Lord had commenced an invasion throughout the globe. Unlike many of the other Fire Lords prior to Iroh who had attempted to take rule over all the nations and failed due to the Avatar, this time due to the absence of the Avatar, it wasn't long before nearly every part of the globe was under Fire Nation rule. The only place to this day that still remains battling relentlessly against the Fire Nation is Ba Sing Se, with its massive walls protecting the city, any attempts at conquering the Earth Kingdom have always ended up failing for the Fire Nation. While the Earth King refuses to go to battle against the Fire Nation due to the overwhelming power that the Fire Nation holds, little does he know that within the walls of the city as well as many other parts of the globe, a rebellion had been forming, slowly battle against the Fire Nation itself. As many other civilians continue to pray til this day for the return of the Avatar, wherever they might be.
