Dyna

Whut is this...
Name: Dyna M. Geranium

Age: 28

Appearance: WIP

History: Dyna had a normal life on his parent's ranch, with a normal annoying older sister who loved to trick him. And since Dyna was very naive, he fell for it, every single time. Well, until he got fed up with it. One day he threw a tantrum over his sister's behavior, and his parents consoled him, telling him that she would stop once he stopped listening. His sister heard this, and made it her mission to never give up her schemes, purely out of spite. So Dyna grew up hating lies, hating his sister, and now not trusting his parents either. Of course his parents tried to get his sister to stop, and of course his sister eventually forgot why she was even doing this, and just did it out of habit, but none of that mattered to Dyna. Because, his sister was smarter than him, and that meant he fell for way too many of her tricks, which angered him even more.

It angered him to the point he refused to say a lie, or play tricks on people. His parents encouraged this behavior of course, until they realized the other side of this behavior. Dyna was blunt. He  always told people the truth. And quote, "A man who should call everything it's rightful name, would hardly pass the streets without being struck down as a common enemy"- Lord Hatitas. But Dyna didn't care, he was out to set a point. And spitefullness ran in the family.

But one thing, he didn't get any smarter. So he could never see through a lie. This was helped by his isolation from his peers, he never learned any social cues. No body language, no anything. So, Dyna never won. Except, when he got the power to see through lies. Buuuut he also got the context.

So, he understood. His sister, his parents, and the people around him. Still, a kid is a kid, so he had some maturing to do, but it was rapidly sped up by these realizations. He corrected his social life, and worked towards a job. Eventually graduated from college, becoming a family counselor.

Personality: Dyna is content with his life, he has a satisfactory job, and has little desires in the SO department due to lack of anything every coming up in his life. So, he's quiet, more introverted than not, and very truthful. His clients respect this, as well as the silence he gives when he has no answer for them. He is rather fearful of the state of the world, and is terrified of being found out as a buyer. Still, it rarely bothers him unless the subject is brought up. Dyna can be oft found listening to music, as people's lies plus his power's echo can get loud this time. Oddly enough, Dyna can't stand silence, maybe because a ingrown fear that he'd revert to the same outcast, idiot, child he was. At the same time, he made sure to remedy his family relations, as a way to balance the whole thing. In all, he's rather sweet, blunt, and a big softie. Loves rather cuts you things, but food-wise, he prefers savory foods. And earth tones for some reason. Maybe because he fancies himself down to earth. Isn't one to face his fears, and tends to avoid other buyers like all the other folk.

Prize: Third Eye- The ability to distinguish lies from truth. Thing is, some statements are subjective. So, Dyna got the side effect of the context behind every statement spoken, which leaves it up to him whether or not it's false. Factual statement she can tell from hearing, but sentiments are only verifiable by sight (Because he visually sees the context).

Pay-Up: Dyna isn't able to lie. No little white lies, but often little things he's grey about slip out without hindrance, since it's not technically lying.

My only concern with this as a Prize is how difficult it might be to role play.

Example: Dyna is with another character who tells him she was assaulted in an alley on the way to the BAT where she found him at the bar and sat next to him because he seemed like a safe option.

This could all be a lie.. Or some of that statement could be a lie... or it could all be the truth. How would you role play your Prize in this situation?

@[Error] I'd like to change the fact he can't tell the truth to he can only tell the truth everything that comes out of his mouth can not be a lie. At least to him as such if he believes it's the truth then it he can say it.

As long as people give what happened for real in the scene then it shouldn't be a problem. So for your example what was a lie or not would be need the person to describe the scene before showing up. Which does bring up the concern of that not always being the case.

Idk. I feel like it's weird to expect someone to reveal in OOC what is a truth or a lie. That is also expecting every person that comes in here to know what his prize is and to respond in kind. @Nenma Takashi

Well, it's a pay-up, so it makes sense to be terribly inconvenient. He can say the truth, just not the full truth. Like, as he's a counselor, he could tell a couple that 'It will only work out if you try', because that's not strictly true. But in the end, it's your decision~ Also , a question, everyone writing like it was present day, and you said 'steampunk-themed west' so I thought like the old west. Are we in current time?

@Ternunda Hunter

You right, you right. Let me present my counter: I didn't plan on him using it 24/7. Like he'd ignore most things, as they don't matter. Also, his power is sensory, so if his hearing is blocked he can't do anything, and if his sight is blocked (As it usually is) he can do little. (Although I'm pretty used to people outright admitting when their characters lying in their post.)

Yeah I suppose. I don't usually, which is the only reason this is news to me XD. I write sneaky, sassy ladies like 89% of the time.

I prefer the idea of him telling only the truth as that would also add to the idea of why he's alone he can't tell white lies like "Yes I do think your hair is nice." When really they look terrible or "Yeah that was really interesting." When really he couldn't care less. Also yeah it is steampunk but due to Buyers powers other stuff is also super advanced. But it's wild west like because of the destruction that evil Buyers do they don't bother building any huge buildings that are just gonna come crashing down on someone.

Waaaaaaaaaait, what? He's not alone now, he was alone in his childhood due to him telling only the truth. He fixed his behavior. But if you prefer that over the inability to tell the truth I'd be happy to rewrite stuff to make sense.  I'm going to say I prefer the irony of him always knowing the truth and never being able to say it(Making him way less OP) , but besides personality it shouldn't affect anything to much~

(Mooooodern. Dang it, gotta go rewrite stuff. I should of clarified earlier. ;-; )
