Dustscape takes place in the year 2084, on Mars during a mid-terraformation period where the atmosphere is just barely liveable, water resources are slim, and most things Martian humans need is ordered in from Earth. Mars economics is almost entirely built on the rich mining industry and factories on Mars, which are often low paying and harsh for their laborers, though they are practically the only jobs on Mars(unless you can get your hands on Earth soil, good seeds, a steady water source, and a location on Mars that won’t fry your plants.)
So why would anyone live on a planet with such poor living conditions? The answer; most don’t… without a reason.
