She’s a listener, not a talker, making her the valley’s go to therapist of sorts as she always is willing to lend a shoulder to cry on, or just listen to a friend even if it just means they want to rant.

  background: Anaris is the youngest of five children, coming from a hard home life. Her father is never home, as he works double jobs just to support them, but when he is home, he is a miserable man and an alcoholic. Her mother does substances, and is always out of her mind. When she’s not, she is cruel. Anaris being the youngest is relatively taken care of, as her older siblings have taken a lot of the brunt of their bad circumstances. But as they’ve grown up and moved out, Anaris is left alone and taking the full weight of her parents abuse. This had made her timid, and quiet. She doesn’t deal with conflict well. When she first came to the valley sometime in her childhood, it transformed her into the person she is. The friends she made made her happy, and feel safe, and loved. She knew there were better things out there, and has longed to return ever since. It’s her only happy place. That is, until she was the only kid left in the house and the emotional and physical weight she took left the valley far out of reach from her.

  FULL NAME. Alvin Felix Hedera-Helix.
  

  Spoiler: name meanings ── ☆

  ✁ Alvin, having parents who are very committed to the hierarchy and believe people should fulfil their humble roles dutifully and without complaint, they weren’t the kind of parents who were going to give their children names resembling great myths and legends. Nevertheless, meaningful names were important to them, which is why after some deliberation they settled on the name Alvin for their youngest, a name derived from the Old English names Æthelwine and Ealdwine, meaning ‘noble friend’ and ‘old/wise friend’ respectively. It also translates to ‘loved by all’ – it’s a name for someone cherished by their parents, and admittedly as the youngest and the last child that they were going to have, he was coddled in some senses. The thought put into his name is reflective of this.
  
  ✁ Felix, a carefully selected middle name, much like the first. Viewed as clever by some and tacky by others. Its meaning, ‘happy’ or ‘fortunate’, is similar to the symbolism of his brother and father’s legacies. Simultaneously, it’s very reminiscent of the word ‘helix’, which forms the second part to Hedera-Helix, his surname. To his parents, it seemed a clever way to incorporate some part of their family’s legacy into their youngest son’s identity. In practice, the name is rarely utilised except on government documents.
  
  ✁ Hedera-Helix, the scientific name for common ivy, sometimes shortened to Hedera for convenience. A rampant, clinging evergreen vine, very much familiar to how Alvin would cling to his brother, Tavares, in their youth. The legacy is evidently intact, but it’s also not very impressive. Alvin is just counting his blessings as a ruler, as the Hedera name has been dragged through the dirt. He cares a lot about how people view him and about fitting in, unlike Tav who has long given up on that, and so he feels unnerved when people callously refer to him as Hedera.

  
  NICKNAMES.
  ✁ Alvie, he’s always been a little picky about nicknames, especially opposed to ‘Al’ or ‘Vin’, not feeling that either of them suit him. Tav was the first person to use the nickname ‘Alvie’ when they were younger, a sort of cute juvenile nickname between young boys. His parents adopted it too, and while Alvin has mostly grown out of the nickname, he’s a little bit fond of it. It reminds him of his childhood, after all. However, the only person he actually allows to call him this is Tav – his parents will still use it on occasion, but he’ll protest and complain that he’s ‘grown’ and not a little kid anymore.
  
  ✁ Hedera, not so much a nickname as an insult, but it’s used frequently enough that it might as well be counted here. If someone out in public happens to know his name, usually the ones who lurk around the valley looking for trouble, it’ll always be ‘Hedera’ or even ‘Hedera Helix’ if they’re feeling particularly spiteful. It still makes him feel inferior when they use the moniker, as it’s meant to – he hasn’t learnt not to let it get to him. However, there’s also some resigned acceptance in the sigh that follows, where he just blinks and takes whatever profanities are hurled his way. Alvin doesn’t know what drains him more: the verbal abuse (most of which is far too incoherent to echo the superior schooling people are given), or the fact that Tav intervenes every single time. While he appreciates his older brother’s protectiveness, part of him wishes Tav would stop getting himself hurt for what Alvin sees as a fruitless effort.
  
  PREFERRED NAME. ✁ Alvin. His nicknames are limited in number as it is, one being a dig at him being a ruler and the other a childish nickname, so he prefers just ‘Alvin’ by a longshot. Of course, as with many things, Tav is the exception, and Alvin would be willing to accept most nicknames coming from him including ‘Alvie’, and even something as teasing as ‘baby bro’, although that would at least produce some dissent and eye rolls (he is a younger brother, after all). He expects that he’ll be called ‘Hedera’ far more than his preferred name – it’s a good thing he has experience and it will be greeted with little more than a listless expression and steady blinking.

  SEXUALITY. ✁ Bisexual. Alvin is not really one to develop ‘crushes’ on people so easily, but he’s been around long enough to establish that he can experience attraction to men and women, though notably, he’s never had an actual crush before. His parents expect him to find someone, of course, although only other rulers, they wouldn’t dare covet someone so lowly in the hierarchy as a villager and his parents have drilled that into him from a young age. To find a nice person of a modest legacy and do the Hedera-Helix family proud. But honestly? Alvin isn’t that invested in romance. He’s not someone into flings or casual relationships either – he’s never dated. It would be most accurate to say that he actually finds romance sort of… icky. He’s quite committed to the idea of living out a single life, liking to think that he’s not capable of falling in love. It’s a mindset he’d probably grow out of, especially if he happened to fall in love with someone, but he’s definitely doing the opposite of seeking someone out. He’s already concerned enough that Tav will go falling in love and forget about him, a silly fear but a real one, and he’s more likely to be the person subconsciously glaring at couples rather than the person doing the crushing. Catch him making use of the Valentine's day discounts and buying in bulk.
  
  

  𖦹⠀ ִ ⠀⠀ׂ ⠀VISAGE.​

  
  HEIGHT. 6' 2.5"
  
  APPEARANCE. Alvin's skin is warm beige, while the color of his eyes and hair is dark. His hair curls and ends around the nape of his neck. Alvin is slightly above average height, but was taught to have very good posture as a child, so he seems taller when standing next to people who slouch. His eyes are gentle and dark brown, but his resting bitch face makes him look irritated and, paired with his eyebags from being up late at night, a little sleepy. He has small moles on various areas all across his skin, but the small amount on his face are the most visible ones. His nose has a bump in it’s bridge. He’s slightly below average weight and doesn’t have much muscle. He has narrow shoulders. He’s all limbs, having long arms and legs. You could describe him as lanky, but he’s not graceless in posture and movement. He has an irritated, poised demeanour. You could guess he was raised in a wealthy, strict household by just glancing at the way he carries himself. He needs reading glasses, but generally neglects to wear them unless he’s sure none of the public will see. Alvin's features are pretty soft, his nose being rounded at the bottom and his cheeks reasonably full, giving him a sort of deceptively innocent, young appearance.
  
  SCARS, PIERCINGS, TATTOOS. Alvin wouldn’t be a true younger brother if he didn’t copy Tav. In typical sibling fashion, he made fun of his brother for piercing his ears with a needle and ice cube, then proceeded to do the exact same thing when it ended up looking pretty cool – only once on each ear though. He didn’t realise just how much it would hurt but he had to maintain his regular expression, you can’t afford to look uncool in front of your cool older brother, of course. He wears different earrings depending on the occasion – generally just simple silver studs, but for special occasions, he enjoys experimenting. He has a littering of minor scars from being roughed around by others on occasion when he was younger, although he’s gotten tall enough and strong enough now to defend himself (but wouldn’t go beyond defensive positions, because that would be unacceptable according to society, even if someone else started it). He has no tattoos and no desire to get any currently, not after the pain of piercing his ears.
  
  HABITS. Slow blinks at people when they try to talk to him. Stays unnaturally still most of the time. Tends to just be observing people, his gaze flickering from one group to another. Flips his hair out of his eyes (he cut it shorter recently but it grows fast). Massages his temples when marvelling at how irritating people can be. Shoots daggers at anyone gossiping about his brother (a rare break from his blank expression). Rolls his eyes, sometimes involuntarily, sometimes jokingly. Usually has his hands in his pockets. Spins a pen in between his fingers similar to how Tav twists a match around (subconsciously picked it up from him). Stretches before standing up. Bites the inside of his cheek when he’s trying to stop himself from laughing.

  OVERVIEW. Alvin is someone who acts very differently with people he trusts compared to with others, to the extent where he’s barely recognizable. It’s almost like he’s a cat whose trust needs to be earned, but once he’s close to you, he’ll instantly be at ease and will roll over if you ask him to. Well, after some concerned questions. He’s a very loyal sort of person, and once his trust is earned, it’s very difficult to lose. As it stands, he isn’t really comfortable with anyone other than his parents and Tav, but around Tav especially, he’s the epitome of a friend for life. They both have each other’s backs, and Alvin is big on commitment – he takes things seriously and isn’t one to take promises lightly – his word is as good as an oath, and in him you have a dedicated friend, though it takes time for him to be comfortable around someone, always regarding strangers as suspicious and a potential threat. This doesn’t come from nowhere – he used to be very trusting and happy-go-lucky, but as he’s grown up, he’s become more cynical and frankly, unhappy. The information he’s been indoctrinated with confuses him, unlike his brother who has firmly chosen a side. He’s at a halfway house between knowing he’s smarter than most people and has the potential to do great things, and believing that he’s a useless man not deserving of happiness because he’s done nothing to earn that right.
  
  The fact of the matter is that like his brother, he is a very capable person. He’s always naturally excelled, and that’s a mixture of talent and hard work. Alvin has always been studious, although you’d be hard pressed trying to call him a teacher’s pet – he’s well-behaved and by the book, a rule follower to the end, but he also will never voluntarily speak up, though he’s far from being shy or a poor public speaker either. It’s all intentional, he’s closed himself off from socializing with others unless it’s Tav, and yet he craves connection. He might deny it, in an odd charade where he’s really just fooling himself, but he likes to be in the company of others. He’s naturally very ambiverted, but he suppresses his outgoing side because he just feels so defeated all the time. What’s the point in him even being created only to live out a miserable existence where he can be no help to anyone? He might as well have not been born, if he's seen so lowly.
  
  On that note, Alvin likes to be helpful. He naturally has a very agreeable personality and pleasant disposition, it’s all the anti-ruler propaganda that’s turned him into a bit of a disillusioned and disinterested young man. If he sees someone struggling, it’s in his nature to help them, even someone who would probably tell him to get away. He’ll still help them, because that’s the sort of person he is deep down, as much as he’s trying to force himself to be stoic and dreamless. He’s a people person trying to make himself into a loner, and often, he fails. He might have a blank expression and he might behave like a stark hermit, but if someone’s upset, he’s going to awkwardly ask them why they’re crying and will probably end up uncomfortably patting them on the back. He’s well-mannered and patient, almost always keeping his temper and remaining unreactive even when faced with ignorance and discrimination.
  
  When it comes to facing conflict, he’s just a very agreeable person. He’s capable of defending himself, both verbally and physically, but he won’t usually. The most he’ll do is use his arms to shield himself from violence – he’ll never hit back. Even when he’s being kicked while he’s down, sometimes he’ll just… let people. Life feels so hopelessly meaningless to the point where he has to ask himself what does it matter if I bruise the next day? Is it all that much of a problem? He tries not to care, so why should anyone else? To an outsider his disinterested expression, dropped shoulders and still body language might make him seem at ease, but the truth is just that he feels hopelessly, well, hopeless. He himself doesn’t know how to feel, which is why at times he’s in denial about how defeated he feels, and other times he embraces it. He tends to channel all his negative thoughts and emotions into his journal, something he won’t even show Tav willingly. He thinks it’s stupid, but in a way, it’s almost like if other people see those thoughts, then they become all too real. He hasn’t quite let go of all his juvenile dreams, he’s pushed them deep down and has covered them with apathy. The trusting young Alvin, still a small part of him, wants to believe in Tav’s vision, but the present Alvin is too much of a realist to cling to that hope.
  
  And a realist he is. That’s always been a part of him, even when he was a happy child without a worry in the world. It was why he was so susceptible to falling into the hierarchy, because it’s what was realistic. And can you really blame him for becoming so resigned? If Alvin believed that any real change might occur, he might be more of a fighter like his brother, but his logic follows that it would be a losing battle. Sometimes he doesn’t even know if he wants to continue his legacy – it seems cruel to bring someone into this world who will only be judged, but at the same time, he doesn’t want to lie down and die. Tav’s passion grounds Alvin somewhat, and encourages him to at least try to enjoy life. He’ll try, for Tav, but between you and him? It’s pointless.
  
  As much as Alvin has a defeatist attitude and should in theory not care what others think about him, he cares a lot. He sees it as a weakness, but he can’t help it. He can feel when their eyes bear into his back, he can catch their judgemental stares and he can feel his heart rate quicken when they whisper to each other about him. He hates how much he cares. It makes sense, he’s always been a bit of a people pleaser, always caring too much about how others view him. Of course, Tav’s opinion comes above everyone else’s, but there’s just something so terribly mortifying about being judged. Sometimes he just sits up at night and looks up at the ceiling, thinking about how strange he must seem to others. So bland. So boring. But isn’t it better to keep to himself? Alvin’s learnt from his brother that lashing out only results in unwanted attention – Tav might get some kind of a thrill out of going against the establishment, but Alvin definitely doesn’t. He’d rather be viewed as dull than be a victim, but any kind of judgement is unnerving to him.
  
  The one person he could never be dull around is Tav, though. His older brother is his best friend through and through, and as much as they have a close bond, ultimately, Alvin is still a little brother, and that means he lives to annoy Tav, especially when they were younger. Like most youngest siblings, he had his annoying phase of pulling faces at his older brother and being a snitch, but like a champ his brother handled it, and even when they were younger there was never a point where they didn’t get along. Now, Alvin annoys Tav in more minor ways, like constantly saying his name until he answers only to say ‘nevermind’ grinning. It’s around Tav that his more childish, playful side comes out, but of course he’d take a bullet for his brother and he knows he’d do the same back. He’s your typical younger brother too and will grimace when his hair is ruffled or when he’s teased, but he’s only joking around – he appreciates Tav’s company and misses him when he isn’t around.
  
  Another aspect to Alvin that those around him get to quickly know is his honesty. He’s a genuine person and he doesn’t like to lie – he believes in telling the truth even when it hurts, if it serves a purpose of course. He’s honest with those around him without being harsh, he’s wise although not many will receive his guidance because he doesn’t openly go around handing out advice. You’d be fortunate to have him as your unofficial therapist, because he really does give well thought out advice, and when he actually cares for someone, they have his full attention (the same can’t really be said for people he doesn’t trust, he just assumed they’re making fun of him and blanks out completely). He’s good at being kind but firm, and definitely has the calmer, more patient countenance of the two brothers. At the same time, he struggles to be honest with himself on certain matters, which is why he finds it difficult to come to terms with how much he cares. Cares about what people think of him, cares about how unfair the world around him is – these are things he can’t easily admit because they’re incompatible with what he sees as logical, and he does strive to be logical.
  
  It’s pretty clear that Alvin has a very conflicting personality, his interactions definitely differ greatly from person to person. At heart he’s a genuine and happy person who can bring a lot of enrichment to someone’s life, but the world has really worn him down over time, leaving someone who is reserved and listless around most people.

  𖦹⠀ ִ ⠀⠀ׂ ⠀BACKSTORY. ;​

  
  HISTORY. Unlike many who were born as only children, continuing just one legacy, by the time Alvin came into the world, he already had a brother waiting there for him. For the most part, the two children were raised in similar ways in the very beginning – it was only when Tavares began to rebel and think outside of the box did their parents become so determined to stuff him back into the box by any means necessary. Their childhoods were nostalgia material, filled with late night talks and laughing when they were told to turn off the lights and go to sleep, rolling down hills, building pillow forts… they’re memories that Alvin looks back on fondly. As the eldest, it’s highly likely that Tav was under greater pressure from their parents to set an example for his youngest brother and be the perfect dutiful son, willingly limiting his role in society – and initially that was exactly what happened. Even Alvin had a certain amount of pressure to act in a way his parents approved of, but he never really processed that as a child, and they seemed to shield him from revealing too much of how weeds were treated when he was little. They were ultimately still ‘good parents’ to him, though not so much to Tav, turning on him when they thought he had ‘betrayed’ their principles. To Alvin? They continued to be affectionate, hoping he would adopt their ideology.
  
  After their indoctrination of Tav had failed, his parents were careful to not repeat the same tactics. Rather than going in so heavy, they slowly introduced Alvin to materials on the history of weeds, one book at a time. Maybe if it had been presented all at once, This is your role in society, and all the rest, then he might have been more skeptical. But piece by piece, little by little – it didn’t seem so far-fetched or unfair. It was… logical, almost. And as much as Alvin cared about his brother, he was beginning to see Tavares fall into anti-social patterns, committing crimes and starting fights – Alvin didn’t want to become that way. It was because he didn’t understand Tav’s motivations that he felt a need to be the extra responsible one, the child who wouldn’t step one foot out of line to protect their family from completely falling apart. He could never cope with that.
  
  Since waking up at the valley, and being separated from his brother due to Tav running off in a panic, he's got a hell of a lot more to worry about than what his family thinks of him.
  
  ONE MEMORY. A secret sanctuary, a place he had stumbled upon by complete accident – a beautiful wild garden with a perfect willow tree that he could climb into and read his books.

    Standing at a height of five feet, eight inches, Silver is what she would consider of average to above average height for both her families. She has blonde hair that, when she was a child, used to go all the way down to her knees. However, as she grew up and went through treatments and other thing, she only let it grow out to about shoulder length at best. She has emerald green eyes that shine sometimes in the sun. Her wardrobe really consists of things she finds pretty. You name it, she probably grabbed it from somewhere.     Levelheaded, pragmatic, and kind, Silver tried her best to be a good ruler and overall good person when she was little. Even as time went on, she never lost her creative streak or her kindness. She can also be quite naive, believing the best in everyone, and is overly trusting of others. She can be classified as an annoyance sometimes. She holds everyone in high regard, and is very agreeable, almost never hosting her personal opinions unless asked directly, which makes her come across as lazy. Also, because she is so agreeable, whenever she does finally snap, she's seen as temperamental, and often chastised for her reactions to being basically poked around.
    
    She can also get very emotional when her past is touched on or memories resurface, especially happy memories. It makes her wonder about the life she could have had if her parents hadn't died or if she had a stronger support system when she was younger. It reminds her of unhappy times and she prefers to gloss over those memories if and when she can.     Silver Mollins was born Silver Luxima on March 11th. Growing up in a small town, her father and mother were unwed at her birth, but her father promised to marry her mother when the time was right.
    
    That day never came, as her father died in a fatal accident when she was just two.     Eventually, one day, Silver's usual spryness began to fade. At the age of six, she had a serious episode that landed her in hospital. Eventually, tragedy struck as she was diagnosed with cancer. The next two years of her life were filled with treatment after treatment. Her only solace was in her mind and the movies she watched while in care. Ultimately, she managed to beat her cancer, ringing the bell when she was eight. At the age of nine, her life completely fell apart. Both her mother and grandmother grew sick and quickly died. Her grandfather died of his grief and her uncle vanished. Her stepfather, originally wanting to boot her, didn't get the chance to do so, being killed in much the similar way to his brother.     Silver was adopted by the Mollins family, a blended group with two sons and a daughter who shared her birthday. Her new father had gone through the system himself, and formed a very close bond with his daughter, as did her new sister Erica. The two did practically everything together, eventually forming a friend group during the start of their middle school years. However, her happiness was not to last, as she became ill again, a recurrence of her cancer. For another two years, she was in hospital, returning to the same suffering once more, and beating it, this time, with even more vigor.   Merlin is a very wise character who believes in the philosophy of "Brain over Brawn". To this end, Merlin values education as opposed to the war-training philosophies shared by much of the rest of society. He also warns the rulers not to believe that magic will solve every problem. Despite his wisdom, he can be absentminded and forgetful, as well as clumsy. He is shown to be kind and mischievous in his new form, and often manages to one up people in the valley on pranks.   During their younger years, the rulers saw Merlin as an elderly man wearing a long, blue flowing robe and large blue wizard cap. He had a long white bear and was bald under the cap. He also had summerwear, aka Bermuda Merlin, which was red, yellow and green in appearance. In his new form, he is much younger, a skinny man with brown hair and brown eyes.   Everyone sort of knows Merlin, whether it's as the funny man in blue robes and hat or as he is now, younger but still wise. Merlin was one of the top advisors in the Valley, helping the young rulers along with his wisdom and foresight and all that jazz. Eventually, however... they started to leave. Merlin mourned, as he did, when they stopped showing up, one by one. And then, the Forgetting occurred. Horrible night thorns began to spread, a darkness enveloping everything. Many of the other characters chose to escape to their realms, but Merlin, Mickey and his friends stayed behind, choosing instead to try and fight the Forgetting.

  Remy was, quite obviously, the former owner of Chez Remy, the Valley's go to restaurant. He was basically day in, day out doing what he loved the most, which was cooking. And then the rulers started vanishing, one by one. Things started getting scarier and Remy decided after a while that potentially it would be safer for him to get out, which multiplied tenfold when he found the restaurant completely destroyed. Ultimately, he went back to his own realm so he wouldn't get screwed over or ultimately hurt.

When people started disappearing, she confided in her sister and Kristoff. And then Kristoff disappeared! Anna cried, grieving his loss before Elsa insisted they return to Arendelle, fearing they would be next to be lost to the Forgetting. A heavy hearted Anna left for their realm and never looked back.
