You feel as if you are floating, your mind is blank and you do not have any memory as if you had just woken up in a daze from a nightmare. You slowly opened your eyes, and all you see is a girl in her teen that you do not recognize. You try to process what had happened and finally remembered something. What was the last thing you remember doing?

Right, you stood on top of a high rise building. You were crying, your heart was broken. Negative thoughts had engulfed you, and you jumped down of the building and committed suicide. So that is the reason why you felt as if you had just woke up from a nightmare. But why did you do that? What makes your heart broken? What happened that is so sad that you had just ended your own life?


You remembered the sound of the wedding bells, you were in the wedding of the love of your life, and the bride is not you. He was your childhood friend and you had known him for as long as you lived. You both were neighbor since before born, according to your parents. You never told him that you loved him, and when he asked you to help him in dating his crush you helped with everything you can. You had helped the love of your life in his love for another woman, for ten whole years up until their wedding. At first you thought that loving someone does not mean that you must have him, as long as he is happy. But then you remembered you could never fall in love with anyone else anymore and that he was the only love of your life. You never stopped loving him, and you swore you never will. Your heart is broken into thousands of pieces every time you see his happy face when mentioning the one he love, you couldn’t take the pain anymore and chosen to end your life.


You snapped back into reality, you were supposed to be dead. So is this life after death? You only remembered that you were in the air after jumping as if you were flying, but have no memory of any impact to the ground. Did you somehow dropped into another dimension, or a portal to another world and that is why you are floating? You realize the girl you saw was supposed to be a reflection of you. Weird, since you are supposed to be a woman in her twenties. You never had hair that long, or wore anything like a vampire themed Japanese high school uniform and you are not that cute either.

You looked around and saw nothingness then you saw the interface of character creation on the reflection like a screen as you landed and stood still. You had played lots of games and this look like a character creation interface of a MMORPG. By instinct, you feel as if you are supposed to create a character of your own. What should you do first?

Of course, you would like to change your look. Changing looks are what people will do first when met with a character creation interface. It’s not like you can select an outfit before making sure how you look, or ignore the character creation interface and roam around or shout out loud in this space of nothingness, right?


You have decided to change your eyes first, since people do make up before doing their hairstyles. Once you had decided to change your look, you started to float again as if it indicates that you have selected the character of your choice. You browse around the eyes available and only found two which is not too cute or too… freaky? Like the alien eyes or cat eyes, you shivered looking at the alien eyes or cat eyes.

There are a lot of color selections you can make, and you selected six colors you thought are best. There is this feature that you can select different color for both side of the eyes, maybe you could mix and match? What are the eyes that you have decided to use?

After matching a few colors with your purple eye, you ended up using the same purple on the other eye as you felt that it looked better with the same color instead of different for two sides of the eyes. You smiled thinking this is one achievement done, you had finally finished changing your looks.

You directly proceeded to the outfits. The outfits available convinced you that this is going to be a MMORPG like you have suspected. You tried on the outfits as you preview them, you had never changed clothes this fast before, just a swiping movement and the next outfit will appear magically. Between them you came across one outfit too revealing for you, you got surprised and blushed. That totally doesn’t look like it could protect you from any attacks in an MMORPG.

You then browsed through some other ones and found a few which you think looks nice. You liked how the first two outfits looked like what an adventurer would wear and cute at the same time. The third one was okay and you considered if you should just wear the cute kimono dress, just that it doesn’t look like practicable for an MMORPG and not very adventurer like. You notice you can change colors in five areas for each outfit, you can change the color of the gloves and socks in separate too, what outfit and what color you would select?

You tried to tap on the confirm button, but pondered if this is the right thing to do just when your finger is a few inches away from the button. To create an avatar and confirm the character creation like this is something normal, like how you would normally do when you start a game. You knew you are here because you had jumped off a high rise building trying to end your life, and this is not a game. It might be one, but it might not be one too. You are afraid, afraid of what would happen. You want to shout out loud and ask what is happening right now. There should be someone out there right? It is not like you are alone, right? How are you in this space of nothingness at the first place? Why create an avatar? What will eventually happen?


You then hear a voice of a girl as if she spoke right into your mind, a very soothing and melodic voice. “There is nothing to be worried or afraid about, follow your instincts. Just one step away, one step away from making your dream come true. One step into the game world…”

Questions, you should ask some questions. That’s right, you realized, you should ask some questions! Why are you just blindly creating an avatar without questioning the reason you are here in this space of nothingness? This is not normal at all, and you acted as if it is a normal thing to do when you see the character creation interface. What were you thinking trying to proceed without questioning anything?


You sort out what you wanted to ask in your mind, and you decided to open your mouth to talk for the first time. “Who are you? Is this all just a dream? Am I the only one here? I know this is supposed to be a game, but what kind of game is it, a dress up game? No, it’s most probably not a dress up game. What kind of game is this? What is the title of the game? What will happen if I proceed?” You asked the questions with a pause of a few seconds between them, your voice sounded different and it startled you a little, it sounded between mature and cute.


You then hear a soft giggle from the same voice that spoke into your mind, and it sounded like a sincere and innocent giggle to you and does not sound like some evil giggle. “You know the answer, follow your instinct. You know the answer by heart. But I will answer one of the questions anyway, he is here too. I will explain… everything… once you had… finished your avatar… [real name]…”


Somehow, you don’t feel afraid anymore, that voice really does have a soothing effect. That girl trusts that you know the answer by heart, and your instinct tells you that she is on your side. She told you he is here, but who is he anyways? Your instinct tells you that you already know who you will be meeting. She knows your name, your real name. You had never mentioned your real name at all, but she knows your name. Her last sentence is a bit muffled, like she had just used all her energy just to speak to you. Of course, no one should be talking or chatting in a character creation interface at all, it is supposed to be a space for only you and your avatar. You decided to not be wavered by your thoughts and follow your heart, follow your instinct like what the girl told you to do. You finally tapped on the confirm button and felt an adrenaline rush as a gust of strong wind blows in your direction. Your surrounding changed into a tunnel of teleport vortex as you are being transported to somewhere else.

“Alisa…” The sound of the girl when she calls your name is still ringing in your ears, the words from the girl just now still lingering in your mind. Where had you heard that voice before? That voice is so familiar yet distant, and it couldn’t be your imagination. Your heart pounded like crazy as you knew the answer will be unfolded once you reach.


The gust of wind finally stopped as the tunnel of teleport vortex disappeared, and you stood in another space of nothingness. You can tell that this space of nothingness is a small room, different from the space just now with no end. You looked around and saw another figure in front of you, a guy avatar as dazed and confused as you are. You never saw him before, but could tell that it is him. The ‘he’ that the girl spoke of, the ‘he’ that you loved so much that your heart was broken into thousands of pieces…

“Alisa…? That is you, right…?” He spoke. “Weird, I never see you looking like that before but I somehow know that it is you. And that we know who each other are despite how different we look. It’s mysterious…”


You know that he can tell your avatar is you, even though it is a new avatar he had never seen. And that he knows that you recognize him too. It is mysterious as of why you both know each other, it’s so… miraculous. What are his real name and his avatar name?

“Yeah Aaron, it’s me Alisa.” You said, smiling. “It’s really mysterious how this is happening. It’s miraculous.” You looked at him, it is really Aaron. Though his voice and looks are different, but there is no doubt. You started to feel like your dream is coming true, to be with Aaron and to be in a game world. That girl, she is making your impossible dream come true.


“This is weird. We looked different and sound different. I was suddenly here looking like this, and then I saw you. Funny how our look matched, it’s like we are meant to be together.” Aaron said.


You blushed a little hearing his comment, looking at him. Did he said he was suddenly here looking like this? Does this mean he did not go through character creation, instead his look auto generated to something that matches your look that you chose? You looked up and saw a name on top of his head, ShadowKnight.


“Last thing I remember was having my 16th birthday then I am here in this weird space.” Aaron continued.


Wait, what? The last thing Aaron remembers was on his 16th birthday?! This can’t be true, that was like, 10 years ago! Does that mean this Aaron came from 10 years ago? What in the world had happened? Your instinct tells you to not let Aaron know that you came from his future, and to not tell him anything that happens in the future. You need to convince him that you came here from the same timeline as him. You tried to remember what happened 10 years ago in Aaron’s birthday, what had happened that day?

It finally hit you in the mind, 10 years ago in Aaron’s birthday. Yes, that day is the day this façade had started. You started the façade thinking it will only last for a short while, but it lasted for 10 whole years and became a permanent façade. That is the day your heart is broken to thousands of pieces. That is the day you had decided to conceal your feelings.


Aaron was looking up the moon at the garden after the birthday party before everyone left. You finally gathered up the courage to confess to him, you told yourself today is the day. Then you saw another girl approaching him, that girl is not his future bride. You looked as the girl confessed to him, and he rejected saying that he already have a crush on someone else. The girl had left, and Aaron saw you standing there. “A-Alisa…? You… saw?” Aaron asked as he saw you, scratching the back of his head.


Your courage to confess had been taken away after that scene. You decided to not confess on that day, afraid of being rejected like the girl just now and that you does not want to push your confession to Aaron and let him have a hard time knowing he had already received one. You decided to play it cool and started your façade, until next time you had mustered enough courage to confess again, you thought. “So… you have a crush eh, Aaron? I never knew about it. Well who is that lucky girl who took the heart of one of the most popular guy in school?” You just grinned cheekily at him, looking at him as he pointed his finger somewhere. Where did he point his finger to?

Aaron pointed his finger towards you. “It’s… her.” You blinked a few times as you looked at Aaron, if it is you he would say it’s you instead of it’s her. You then found out that his eyes are not looking at you but something behind you. You turned around and saw a beautiful girl. Yes, the girl that would be his bride in the future. You looked at Aaron again, this time his finger is pointing towards that girl and looking at you.


Your heart had broken into thousands of pieces as you looked at Aaron, but still keeping your poker face on. Of course he would like someone as beautiful as that girl, he only sees you like a sister. You smiled despite being hurt, and offered to help him with his crush in the name of you are a girl and you knows what a girl would like. Since then, you had continued the façade without stopping.


“The birthday party was coming to an end, and I was at the garden looking up at the moon.” Aaron said, snapping you back into present from your memories of 10 years ago. “And then here I am, looking at MoonlightMagica.” He giggles.


He was looking up at the moon… That means none of the confessions had happened yet, at least to him. “Well, I was wondering why you are looking at the moon when I found you. They told me to give you some of the snacks and then I saw you, looking up at the moon before… this, ShadowKnight.” That was not a lie, you just missed out the part that you wanted to confess to him after some friends wanted you to bring the snacks and everything that happened for 10 years after that.


“The moon is the most beautiful thing ever and I could not stop staring at the moon.” Aaron said, smiling.


You looked at Aaron and the way he is looking at you now is like how he looked at the moon that time. The nostalgia of this situation is starting to get too much for you to bear. “Welcome to the world of game. I am the creator of this game and known as the goddess of this world. This game functions like a normal MMORPG, but it is way more realistic. This is a firsthand experience of an MMORPG in first person mode where you are inside the game.” The girl who spoke into your mind just now had started the introductions.

“You two had been chosen to experience this realistic game, do not worry as you will be able to go back to your normal life after this ends. This is the world of Lunaria, it is a game, yet can be an adventure for you. Everyone here except you two are considered NPC, but please treat them like normal human as if you are talking to townspeople. The people of this world worship Minerva, which is me, their creator. Like any other MMORPG, you fight monsters to level up. You can take up a profession once you reach level 10, but there is a twist in this case. You are able to take as many professions as you want once you reach level 10. But be aware that your gained skill points will not increase with every profession taken. One thing about taking too much profession is that it is hard to change weapon every time you use a skill and you might forgot some skills when you have too much of them. Using skills in this world is not by tapping buttons, but by shouting the skill name and do specific actions. Is there anything else you would like to ask about?” The girl explained in detail about this world and what you should do, even the systems of this game in detail.


“Wow, that’s some really detailed explanation.” You said, looking at ShadowKnight. “What would happen if we died in this world?” You asked to the voice. Minerva never showed herself to both of you.


“You can be revived by using revival item or to revive in the revival point in the nearest town. The penalty for death is that your experience in that level will turn into 0.00% even if your experience is at 99.99%.” Minerva said.


"Yikes." ShadowKnight said. Is there anything else you would want to know?

You need more information on this game before you proceed. You then looked at ShadowKnight, it looked as if he have some questions too. He decided to start asking some questions.


“What is the maximum level? Are there any hunting zones? Do we do quests here?” ShadowKnight asked.


“What about the currency? Do the monsters drop items or money? Are there any rare weapons?” You added.


“Currently the level cap would be at 100, there are dungeons, towers and hunting fields you can go to. Monsters will not be able to enter town areas except pets and mounts as there would be magic barriers. You can speak to townspeople to do quests on their requests and there would be reward for the quests. The currency here would be gold and silver coins, 1k silver equals to 1 gold coin. Monsters do drop weapons and money, but for the loot you must manually take it from the monster. For example if you want to have wolf pelt, you would need to cut it manually to get the loot for realistic experience. There are rare weapons and growing weapons, but they are hard to obtain. You can also carve weapons and equipments using the loot you obtained. Another example is that if you want to have a tiger cape, you must cut out tiger pelts for the cape. There are many types of secondary professions like cooking, sewing, potion making. The way to level up these secondary professions is to do required action repeatedly or to use special level up items. There are two types of NPC in this game, townspeople and Guardians. Guardians have player-like names and acts like players, and they can revive and hunt monsters like you both. Since you both are the only players you will fall into the Guardians group. Townspeople have normal names and only have one life, a reminder that you must not see this as a game but like a real world as it is the real world for them.” Minerva explained. “I have included a guide book for both of you in your inventory, and you can look up to it if you have any questions."


You and ShadowKnight nods as you understood the game more. You looked at each other as if asking if there is anything else you guys should know. Is there anything else you would like to know?

ShadowKnight decided to get more information. “Can the NPCs carve, forge or make equipment? Do we have to make everything on our own?”


“Do we feel temperature? Do we feel different weathers and seasons?” You asked.


“Yes, like in the real world people makes things themselves, NPCs also have the ability to create things. Of course, they would need to create things so that they are able to sell the created goods to others. If you give a blueprint of an equipment or weapon to an NPC to have them to create something, expect them to start creating copies and it will be available in the town shop. So if you would like your creation to be one-of-a-kind, you would need to create the equipment by yourselves from the blueprint to the finished equipment. If you create a blueprint, you can decide the raw materials needed to make an item, but it needs to follow the requirement or the item making will fail even if you successfully made a blueprint. Beware of NPCs who sell these kind of failed blueprints. Expect this world to be as realistic as the real world, people’s actions and emotions, temperature and humidity, you can feel it all. You would be able to feel the temperature, but it also depends on your endurance if you are able to withstand in that weather for long. For example, if you are on a snowy area in level 10 you might not be able to endure the cold weather for 30 minutes without proper winter equipment. Your ability to endure the cold weather increased by level and if you are level 30, you could endure the same cold weather for about 3 hours without proper winter equipment.” Minerva said.

You and ShadowKnight looked at each other and you nodded indicating that you have understood the game well enough to continue. He nodded back, looking confident and all ready for this adventure. “We understand and we would like to proceed into the world of Lunaria.” he said.


“Very well. One more thing, you can’t tell the NPCs that you are from another world. You will be part of the guardians, sent by the goddess which is me to protect the world. The NPC guardians have only memory of being a guardian since they don’t have any back story, and that they act like players in games. Every time a guardian is born, a house will appear for them too. You can also buy properties in towns or cities once you have enough gold. Good luck to you both.” Minerva said, a gazebo then suddenly appeared beside both of you. The golden gazebo is so bright as if it is made of light. “Step into this portal then you may begin your adventure. Just one step into the game world, and your dreams will come true.”

ShadowKnight then offered a hand to you, so that both of you could walk in together. You nodded with a smile and took his hand. You both exchange glances and walked into the portal in the gazebo. Right after you both walked into the gazebo, you feel as if you are floating. You looked around and indeed you both are floating down from the sky in a pillar of light, as if angels descending to the ground. You exchange glances again, surprised by the majestic way of entering Lunaria.


“Two new guardians have born!” Someone shouted. You both then looked down only to see an altar which is supposed to be your destination since the pillar of light shines towards the center of the altar. The altar is surrounded by grass field, a few townspeople and a few guardians stood by the altar looking at the both of you. You both then landed lightly with a step, still holding each other’s hand. What should you do?

More and more people around the area started to gather around the Altar of the Guardians. At least that is the name of the place popping out from above within yours and ShadowKnight’s sight. Some people just watched in curiosity and some greeted both of you with a smile. “This is the first time two Guardians are born together for as long as I live.” One of the elder women said. “Welcome to Lunaria!”


Of course, normally when you play an MMORPG, you make your character alone and start the game alone resulting in only one player at a time. You and ShadowKnight exchanged glances again, both of you then smiled to the NPCs. “Good day, we are the new guardians sent by Goddess Minerva. I am MoonlightMagica, and this is my partner.” You looked at ShadowKnight.


“I am ShadowKnight, pleased to meet all of you. Thank you for welcoming us.” ShadowKnight said.


“We wish you good luck in getting stronger and protecting our world of Lunaria.” a guardian said.

You wonder if this is something implemented by Minerva as you both are supposed to be a partner and the first two guardians that are born together, or this is what you both will be like normally if you are being honest and not trying to hide anything by running away from Aaron before you felt heartbroken or more in love. You blinked and decided to not think too much into it when you see ShadowKnight’s confused gaze knowing that you are thinking something else out of this world. What should you both do?

You made an apology smile to ShadowKnight for getting distracted by your own thoughts, then looked at the NPCs with the corner of your eye and saw that they are waiting expectantly while smiling and nodding in agreement of the younger townspeople just now. The townspeople looked at both of you in respect and the Guardians have a welcoming smile on their faces. You looked at ShadowKnight again and nodded with a smile indicating that you both should follow them.


ShadowKnight then smiled in relieve and turned to them. “Please do, sorry to trouble you all.”


“Oh, it’s not a problem! This is just a very small gesture to appreciate the Guardians sent by Goddess Minerva to save our world!” One of the townspeople said. “Please, follow us.” They gestured and started to walk.


You and ShadowKnight stepped out of the Altar of the Guardian and walked surrounded by a group of townspeople and guardians. You feel like you are being appreciated more than ever and it is a little embarrassing to be escorted like that. You and ShadowKnight looked around the grassland surrounded the Altar of the Guardians, it is a beautiful place indeed with flowers and all. The whole area was surrounded by cliffs, and there is also cliff near the other side of the altar. The whole place fits the name popping out from above within yours and ShadowKnight’s sight which had changed after both of you stepped out of the altar, The Garden of the Goddess’s Guardian.

After a small distance, you both started to see a fork road. You both were led by the people to one of the path. “Where does the other path leads to?” You asked curiously.


“That is the town, where us townspeople lives. There are merchants and shops there, too.” One of the townspeople answered.


You then wonder if the houses for guardians and the town are in different area. What should you do?

You never see any monsters around the area, and you wonder where the hunting ground is. You realized this is the real world for them and they might not call places with monsters the hunting ground. You decided to ask in another way. “I don’t see any monsters around.”


“Of course, The Garden of the Goddess’s Guardian and the town and residential areas are protected by the Goddess’s magic and the monster will not be able to step in, especially The Garden of the Goddess’s Guardian which is a sacred place. The monsters are on the fields on the other side of the town.” One of the townspeople said.


You both started to see some medieval style houses as you walk. There are houses with different sizes and designs, with a yard of their own making the distance between houses enough to build one or two more houses. There are around 50 houses in this area which make it quite big. When both of you stepped into the area, the name popping out from above within yours and ShadowKnight’s sight had changed into Guardian’s Plateau.


“A town where a guardian is born is a magical and sacred place. Since this is only one of the places where guardians are born, there are not much houses. When guardians sell their first house, the house will just disappear. Most of the houses here are empty since the guardians are in their journey of their adventure.” One of the guardians started explaining. “You start with a basic house and you can upgrade your house once you have enough gold, and it will just upgrade magically with time.”


The group of people then stopped in front of a basic house, the house plate have both your names in it. “Normally guardians are born one by one and have a house each, but this is the first time we ever seen Goddess Minerva send two guardians at the same time and both of you share a house.” One townspeople said. “We should be going now. You can head north to the town or west to the fields. If there is anything you would like to know, feel free to ask anything in the town.” The people waved goodbye and went to their separate ways leaving you and ShadowKnight in front of the house.


You both waved goodbye to them, and a message popped out in front of both of you.

Well of course, the first thing everyone would do when they step into a new lodging place is to explore the place first like when you go travel and taking a look at the hotel room before anything. The house is a classic wooden medieval house, quite small in size like an apartment. You both saw a glass door leading to the balcony at the other end of the house with curtains seemed to pulled to the side. On your left is a kitchen with a dining bar with two seats. Some racks and decoration are to the right by the entrance. As both of you walked in, you can see that there is a living room right after the kitchen with a two seat sofa, a rectangle coffee table right in front of it and two single seat sofa on each side of the coffee table. There is a black screen and some virtual buttons on the wall as if it is the television.


The next thing you see is a box with virtual buttons on your right just after the racks and before the door to the room. That place is like an NPC where you can change the settings your house. You both then walked towards the glass door to the balcony and slide it open, standing on the wooden balcony with a great view and letting the wind blow towards the both of you before going back into the house. You both walked into the bedroom with one queen sized bed and after taking a look like it is the most normal thing ever, you both turned to look at the storage space and then take a quick glance at the bathroom before going back to the bedroom again. It seems that both of you had finished exploring the house.

It took a few seconds before you both realize what is wrong after going back to the bedroom. There is only one bedroom and only one queen sized bed… Wait what? Only one bedroom and one queen sized bed? You and ShadowKnight share a house, this means you both live together and there is not only just one bedroom but one bed in the whole house? You can feel your face heating up from thinking too much, and looked at ShadowKnight with your eyes widened.


It seems ShadowKnight had also realized this and is looking at you with his eyes widened as well, with a tinge of pink on his cheeks… ‘Wait, is he blushing? Was that an imagination? No, wait… you are ten years older than him! Well technically because we both came from a different timeline. You aren’t supposed to like the younger version of your more than ten years crush now…! How could I even think about that knowing I came from a future timeline of his and imagine… that… that kind of thing!’ You thought to yourself as your cheeks gets red.


“Well, uh… I guess I will just… Sleep on the couch and give you the room.” ShadowKnight offered being the polite gentleman he is. He couldn’t let a girl sleep on the couch and a teen girl would not want a guy sleeping with her or so he thought, not knowing the fact that his childhood friend Alisa which is MoonlightMagica now actually came from ten years in future after his wedding day by trying to commit suicide out of broken heart. Oh the guilt he will feel if he knows about it… If only he knew… What decision you will make?
