Idea Drawing-based RP?

Howdy! Drawing with art is my favorite way to RP. A little illustration with some text, comic form, etc. I'm unsure if there is a proper term for that here, since I'm new, so I thought I'd inquire about it here.

Is this done here? :)

I’d love to be apart of something like this and I think there are a few other users that frequent the art & music page who might be interested in this kind of thing too. Here’s hoping that this could work out!

I'm not too concerned where they would go as of yet. Curious if it exists!
Currently to my knowledge it does not. The issue with it is very simple: it's hard enough to find support for a regular, text-based roleplay. So it would be even harder to get a roleplay off the ground that requires a skill most people here just don't have.

Furthermore there is the issue of time and inspiration, seeing as even those who are artists here aren't necessarily able to pump out art at the snap of a finger.

Idea Idea deviantart has a very active drawing-based role playing community! it’s a gross exaggeration to say it’s too difficult. i was once a member of a few of them when i was younger. such roleplays could be simple sketches or longer ones that take months. the pixiv fantasia series is also a good example of roleplaying via art!

(: rpn has a bigger focus on play by post roleplaying, so it honestly isnt surprising that we never formed a community around more art-centric roleplays.

Yes, however deviantart is an art-based community that happens to dabble on roleplaying. What I said was that users on RPN factually either tend to either be incapable of using art or either not appreciate or be incapable of pumping art at just any time, especially not quickly.

What makes it so difficult? Well, being an art RP is just ONE of the things the RP is. One cannot forget that besides that it also has to filter like any other RP would, meaning that it has to attract an audience that you constantly see people complaining about not getting, and hold that audience, while also having the handicap is reducing to what maybe accounts for 1 or 2% of RPN's user base just from 1 of its conditions.

i genuinely think you missed the point of my post. (: will an attempt at an art rp be confined to a certain population of rpn? yes. is this wrong? no. they’re free to try it if they like, and if no one comes in to express interest, then they can at least say tried.

if they complain afterwards, then that’s their issue. but trying to stop someone from wanting to try something just because it’s niche is incredibly discouraging. it’s no different from wanting to rp an obscure fandom. nothing will happen by not asking in the first place.

Very well but...

1. I never said it was wrong to attempt this

2.

It isn't a gross exageration, in fact it's not an exageration at all to say it will be considerably difficult

I mean I might be up for this! Count me in, but remember that I might not play; recently I've been feeling a bit out of it in terms of roleplaying

While we are certainly a more post by post oriented site, we'd love to see an rp done by drawings on here. I personally am a huge fan of pixiv fantasia and sadden that there isn't a clean English translation of the summaries.

From my own experiences and just a brief look through the creative section, there are quite a number of people who can draw, and even just sketch quickly. Quite a number of people here draw their own characters, and I even rped with a person who drew a full color comic strip as an explanation to their characters actions. It wouldn't be too difficult to garner interest, plus there is a chance it'd be a long running rp if you get the right people.

Ah, but do remember to post your interest check in the proper looking for group subcategory.

Thank you all for the responses! If I do initiate this idea, I'll be sure to put interest-check in the interest-check category!

To be sure, there are a few things I'd like to mention here as a discussion to this topic. I hosted a small art-based RP form so I do understand just how niche it is; much like I understand the audience can exist for it! Drawing responses is not easy. That's exactly why I encourage it. It's the perfect way to practice drawing sequentially, and you will absolutely be drawing your characters in situations, angles and environments you never have before. On top of this, you will be learning to draw at a faster pace. This is critical for an artist of this nature! The goal of this idea is to have fun while you practice art; just like written rp is having fun practicing writing.

This is generally my pitch to others!

Given the responses here, and after having explored the forum more, I feel pretty confident to try! I'll work on preparing a proper interest check and dip my toes into the art sections of this form, too. Thanks fellas! I hope we create a wonderful storybook to read soon~!

Go for it, I think it sounds awesome. Like a collaborative webcomic. If it works out I'd probably follow it, unlike regular RPs that I've got nothing to do with.

This whole Idea sounds amazing, Not sure why not a lot of people have done it.

I've always wanted to lear how2draw or at least how2model so I could improve my odd quest style RP thread here and there

I would try this if I weren't so busy all the time. Purely out of curiosity what sort of genre would this RP be? Realistic? Scifi? Fantasy?

Idk, but this was just an idea that the poster wanted to express, I don’t think this is a search thread

I've seen them before on other sites just not much here. I've only personally seen one on RPN and it was for a quest roleplay. It'd be kind of a challenge, but I also really like the idea.
