Other Do you have interests that aren't compatible which people find weird?

This one's kinda funny to me because I shatter a lot of people's expectations when it comes to talking about interests in media and/or hobbies

Anywhere I am on the internet, I portray myself as a kpop stan for the most part. On almost any social media platform I'm always seen with a kpop idol as my avatar. And when I'm talking to people, especially on discord people are shocked to know I'm male and listen to music which is stereotypically assigned to entertaining adolescent girls

That being said I'm big on media geared towards masc cishet males. So I love when I'm talking to someone about the structure of Fallout: New Vegas, the Star Wars legends universe, or a funny Mass Effect moment and they're so baffled by my investment into these sort of things. Pro-Wrestling is a big one too. Some people find it baffling that I'm not into pro wrestling for the buff bods since I'm queer lol

It's just funny how we each have specific interests we're prescribed certain archetypes and things we should be interested in and when we break those we're just an open book

I'm a 5'2" midget with a baby face who is very non-confrontational and shy. When I tell people that my favorite type of music is violent black metal or deathgrind (or some slam metal!), they stare at me all bug-eyed. I've even had men get very accusatory and demand me to name a plethora of songs or albums from the band shirt I'm wearing, because lay-deeeys obviously don't listen to the heavier genres of metal. When most people think of your average metalhead, they picture giant, beefy dudes with black hair and corpse paint. But alas, they have not seen me, scuttling my way through the crowds of a Slayer concert like some kind of goblin to wiggle my way to the front row. I'm hardcore like that.

Bonus points for all the people who similarly get taken aback when I say I like reptiles. Big tegus or giant pythons?? Yes!! I love.

Alright so. I love pop music. Listen to it literally all day. Doja Cat, Arianna Grande, Demi Lavato, Lizzo, all that stuff.

Yet

I play death metal in my garage with my friends every Friday.

I don't think the people that I end up chatting to on discord are ever really expecting or ready for my 1000 + 1 pictures of my chickens/ducks/lizards daily, and the morbid dark jokes I use to deal with my post-traumatic stress (^∀^●)ノシ

ALSO! i miss seeing you around in servers Arzee (づ ̄ 3 ̄)づ

I adore dark, gritty, violent pieces of media. First person shooters, Fallout, Berserk, Game of Thrones, etc. You'd think I'm only into that, and I'm some sort of cynical jerkwad who hates anything that doesn't have the color scheme of a sewer. But I, in fact, love cheery things. Stardew Valley is one of my favorite games, I'm a huge fan of Haikyuu, one of my favorite films is a Disney movie, and I'm a bit too obsessed with Star Wars.

I think I can relate to people on here in that I have a wide range of interests that may or may not overlap with what people see me as. I'm a proud resident of idol hell, yet i consistently alternate between listening to that and shit like Venetian Snares and old jungle records. I love dark stories that tap deep into the darkness we are capable of, yet Gumball is one of my favorite shows. What I'm really into, though, is things that blend thinks like light aesthetics and dark themes together. Prolly why I vibes so hard with a show like Kaiba.

But yeah, is pr cool how varied humans can be in their interests.

I'm sure that you can see-- I love cute stuff and pink boys! I cuddle stuffed animals to sleep and my main OC is a cuddly, shy, motherly pink boy (well I sure hope you don't see that)

B U T I loveeeeeeeeee horror! One of my favorite games i used to play was Silent Hill (forgot which one) and I like to make monster/creature designs (my favorite is my Bone Jackals :3) I also watch horror movies and videos a lot

I always wear punk style fashion, wear all black, love horror, etc but I'm also a doll collector that loves giving my dolls cute and frilly outfits and taking them out for pictures and listening to classical sounding music.

Yes. Most history and political stuff I'm into tbh. I also don't follow pop culture very closely. In some circles that is certainly considered "weird", especially when the discussion turns to a piece of popular media I've never even heard of.

hmm I guess my weird interests are related to hobbies too. lol

I'm generally very calm and polite, never shout, never use bad words in conversations irl. One of my main hobbies is playing music and people are not surprised to hear that.
But they tend to get surprised when they find out I enjoy playing PvP games that are considered to be very toxic, such as League of Legends. To me a game is boring if it has no PvP lol But people don't expect that of me given my character. And no I don't suddenly turn toxic when I'm playing these games, my behavior doesn't change, I just enjoy the competitive side of them, the thrill of playing against other people. I can't really explain my interest in such games myself, I just suddenly discovered once that I prefer PvP games to calm world exploration and just went along with it XD

I like PvE. There's something thrilling about working with other people to achieve some kind of goal or defeat hoards of bots.

I used to like a few PvP games, mainly For Honor because I loved the aesthetic. But I sorta fell off...mainly because of the fandom being extremely toxic alongside the fact I don't even really recognize the gameplay anymore.

i like to listen to both heavy metal and bubble gum kpop which raises some eyebrows whenever i'm allowed to use my playlist on drives lmao

A lot of the music I have on my iPod is probably stuff you wouldn't expect to see on the same iPod. I do have quite a few classic rock songs on there, as well as modern, mainstream pop music.

My interest and commitment to The Tower of Druaga might come off as a bit weird, especially because it's a game that isn't popular outside of Japan. I often go to Japanese websites to find more info about the games since they're usually the only ones I can find such stuff. I even love visiting the Twitter of one of the game's artists.

While people offline aren't surprised by it, people online are often surprised when I tell them that I'm Catholic. It's because I'm bisexual, and people kinda expect all LGBT people to be atheists. Despite the Catholic Church's position on LGBT rights, I've never shown any interest in becoming an atheist and I'm happy being Catholic.

People would probably find it very strange that I have a bit of a crush on Mack Horton. (In case you're wondering who he is...he's a swimmer from Australia. He's blond and he always wears glasses - a combo that I often find myself attracted to.) I'm American, not Australian, and I generally don't follow sports. I found out about him through browsing Google Images.

Like others have said, I too have this issue. One minute I’ve got Broadway soundtracks and pretty average classic rock. The next it’s bubblegum pop from Korea, rap from China, and metal from Japan. I just like a little bit of everything and many of the groups that mean a lot to me fly completely under everybody else’s radar. My ITunes account literally looks like three people of wildly different ages sharing one account.

It’s horror games/movies for me. IRL, I’m pretty unassuming. My friends would describe me as a cutie because I tend to dress feminine. I like big sweaters and flared skirts. Honestly, they just can’t equate me with the genre. Instead of playing otomes or girly games, I dive into the world of macabre with Silent Hill and Resident Evil.

I love Silent Hill. Hoping they'll make another game eventually.

Yeah, we can remain hopeful. It was one of the games that made me fall in love with the horror genre - alongside Outlast and Until Dawn. Now, I’m only getting into the older Japanese horror games like Fatal Frame and Siren.

I think that people who are more honest with themselves will find that they have a wide variety of interests that don't necessarilly fit into a themed collage. I hear it very often where people think they have "weird" tastes just because they are eclectic and don't limit themselves to just a small realm of interests associated with a particular image or lifestyle. But tbh, this is actually the majority. The "weird" people, imo are the ones that ARE like that, only liking things that fall within the boundaries of their projected self-image.

However, to add my lot to the conversation, an interest of mine that people dont often see coming is that I actually have a lot of automotive and mechanical knowledge, to include general tool usage. I guess they are thrown off because I'm a woman? I'm not playing the sexism card, btw. Because, tbh it's kind of true. Most other gals I know are pretty fucking incompetent when it comes to those things.

I have a great love for Westerns! It’s not really what you’d imagine a teenage girl to like, but it was commonplace in my house. I was raised by my grandparents, hence, the preference for older media.

Although I’m discovering the magic of teen dramas now, it’s become more of a guilty pleasure. > u <

Discovery Discovery , any suggestions for good Westerns? I've seen a few John Waynes, and them some misc. others, but it seems like I've mostly seen newer westerns. I've wondered where to start with classic ones.

As for my own, ah, odd tastes.

I'm a vegetarian absolutely FASCINATED by cannibalism.

I'm also an atheist with a Religious Studies masters. This one in particular has thrown people off, haha.

Neither of these seem weird to me -- I'd expect a firefighter to be interested in fire -- but to each their own.

Oof! Sorry this is late! I was so busy because of finals!

Here my list of fave classic westerns:

1. 7 Men from Now - Randolph Scott; Can’t beat Budd Boetticher and Randolph Scott together. For me, this is a classic.

2. Wanderer of the Wasteland - James Warren; I read the book by Zane Grey so I liked this adaptation.

3. The Proud Rebel - Alan and David Ladd; I love the shift of plot in this one. It’s not hinging on revenge, but really character driven.

4. Broken Arrow - James Stewart; A really progressive film about peacemaking with Apaches and the US government.

I can’t say that I have the best taste, but these are the ones I enjoyed. I hope that helps! ^ ^

Heh, I guess some people who know me irl would be quite surprised that this rocker/metalhead has a fascination for tarot.

Like, you'll never see me without my studded armcuff, pentagram necklace and leather jacket, I'm friendly but heck I won't take shit from anyone and at festivals and concerts I usually end up being the one shielding my anxious friend from the inevitable wall of death.

But then I come home, cuddle my cat, have some very hardcore cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate with those cute little tiny marshmallows and watch disney movies while interpreting what the High Priestess card might try to tell me XD

I've also been told online that they wouldn't have expected me to be into metal and rock at all.
Apparently, my other side is showing stronger online, Idk 😂
