Fantasy Delta Green ~One Last Night At The Opera~

I have no choice. My country has conscription.
Sometimes I wish America had conscription. There are a lot of assholes who could really use some tough love.
Hmm, if someone worked for the National Guard for 7 years, what rank would they usually end up in? Corporal? Sergeant?
Junior Enlisted in the Army or National Guard - Privates and Specialists - are promoted automatically based on their time in service and time in pay grade. Privates would be promoted to Private 2nd Class after completing six months of service and PV2's are normally promoted to Private First Class when the have 12 months' time in service and 4 months' time in their pay grade. In general, Soldiers earn the rank of Specialist after having served a minimum of two years and attending a specific training class.

After that, promotion is dependent on a lot of factors, the least of which being time spent in service.

I'd say that Sargent First Class would be a safe bet though.

Man, King, I'd say I'm about the right kind of sceptical when you said lovecraftian horror and presented us with military hooha — that's the last thing lovecraftian horror is about.

Zero, zilch, cipher. Demolitions more so, I'm forced to think.

But, you should rightly send me a questionnaire, or whatever so-so you're trying to clip, if you don't mind someone hijacking and constantly analysing your supposed plotline. It's a necessary evil.

I'm sure this'll be fine, after all you can get some really interesting results from taking an idea and turning it on it's head.

Scarcely. I favour psykik, classikal body/alien/blue-and-orange/cosmik horror over... military horror. How the hell do you even mix them without fumbling about?

High stake and the slow but sure removal of power from the characters. By high stakes I mean generally 1 small fuck up = player death, this will offset how much foreknowledge and firepower our characters will be bringing into the RP because all of their resources will have to be put towards making sure that every little procedure is done correctly and agonizing over weather or not the proper precautions are in place. Meanwhile there's an obvious mechanic of sanity going on in this RP so I can see king using that to his advantage having the less sane characters begin to forget things, see things that aren't there, become uncooperative and generally isolate themselves to be subjected to more horror. There's a lot king can do to make this go right, and I have no doubts king will be smart enough about this to make things interesting.

Psychological horror doesn't make up the entirety of the tenets of cosmic horror, and weird fiction in general — there's also body horror, eldritchian abominations, cults, artefacts, and most importantly, cynical helplessness. Not to mention downer endings.

In my humble opinion, straight-up military doesn't mesh well with horror. While, there can be otherwise military/government themes (recent books Winter Tide, and Brimstone, the former of which took place also in innsmouth whilst the latter explored the scars of a veteran), most of the time, the characters are well about researchers, or very normal persons.

But, in all honesty, the interest check makes it sound more like a techno-thriller a la Tom Clancy mixed in with fantasy elements, rather than highlighting upon more traditional traits of cosmik horror.

You know, if you don't like it, you could just leave. :ghost:

Oh trust me I saw the Tom Clancy :P
But I feel like it's unfair to say right here and now that it won't work, we have no real basis to go off of until we see the first few posts, personally the questionnaire is already giving me the feeling that this is gonna go really well. It was your standard kind of application with just the right amount of overly personal and outright odd questions to leave you just a bit uncomfortable.

You know, if you don't like it, you could just leave. :ghost:
Aww c'mon I doubt he's saying he hates it outright, it's perfectly within his right to be a bit skeptical and ask questions of the theme of the RP. Besides I like the debate.

Incorrect. Simply state so that you absolutely have no answer to my analysis.

And, mate, Historical Storyteller Historical Storyteller is a buddy, and buddies stick together. Always.
That's honestly adorable. You and Heis make quite a pair. I approve of this bromance.

And relax, the main point of cosmic horror is the characters attempting to deal with it and failing. (Most of the time. Like that one time they made Cthulhu sleep by ramming a ship into him.) And who said its military anyway? Arent most main characters in Cosmic horror stories detectives?

Tis only a jest. :ghostv:

But, it gives off the wrong kind to newcomers — as a good amount of the interest check is spent describing crack cases, mental dysphoria, militia wicks, rather than on the unknown. This can lead a few interestos barging in while thinking it's a tom clancy-dresden file hybrid.

I'm simply questioning the question, or avidly, the questioner or the questions posed by the assertions.

It's a buddy dynamic...

No, no, the main point is really just the unknown, cosmic entities, and a universe in which humans only serve as cosmo-snack. This philosophy needs to be deeply embedded, reinforced, and reminded repeatedly to the reader, spectator, and the character, and that of the super-cynical way-of-life, and that of otherwise eldritchian abominations. The latter isn't actually the main part of the dilemma and the tension, it's how the characters deal with it — and it's certainly not clean.

And, of course, you and I know that it's detective-like because King stated so earlier. Any unsuspecting newcomer might think of it more as a grit-mash swing party rather than a slow-burn wicker candle.
