'The Minotaur'

As the demigods split over what to do, the rumbling grew louder and louder. At this point, small rocks were picking up off the ground with each thundering footstep, larger ones joining in each time the thundering booms sounded. After a few moments of rumbling and thumping, the forest grew silent. The only noise came from the groaning creaks of the thrown car, which clearly wanted to be put out its misery at this point.

However, the silence was quickly broken by a loud roar mixed with the snort of a bull, before two large trees cracked apart to reveal a beastly creature ripping them open. With beady dark eyes and steam rising off its leathery skin, the Minotaur roared again at the demigods as steam shot from its nose. More trees cracked as the creature barreled forward into the clearing, giant hooves leaving imprints on the ground.

Although the creature didn't carry a weapon at the moment, that didn't stop it from stomping forward with an outreached fist. In one quick motion with another roar, the Minotaur had snatched up a running Augustus like a Barbie doll. Pinning his arms to his side, the creature then began to shake the demigod around like a rag-doll while still roaring widely.

After giving the poor kid a good rattle, the beast didn't drop Augustus. Instead, it turned its attention onto the rest of the ground, fury clear in its beady little eyes. Another mooing roar sounded as it pointed at the group with August, like some sort of challenge.

Looks like they had to free Augustus now too.

Poppylan Yoo
'Shut Up'

All they had to do was outrun whatever had just thrown that car. It was stupid to try and fight the monster, since they clearly didn't know what it was and if they could even trust the two new demi-

Looking back, Poppy let out an frustrated yell as she noticed Ewan taking up position to fight along the two others. Her feet stopped running, and she paused to tug at the two braids she wore her hair in. They were supposed to all remain together, and alive. Now that Ewan had decided to just NOT follow those directions, Poppy was left with two choices. She could leave him there to fight alongside two strangers alone who might just kill him with the monster, or go over there and help, while also potentially being at risk of death.

Turning her head up to the sky, while still pulling on her braids, Poppy let out an angry scream before raising her middle finger up at the skyline.

"FUCK YOU DAD, AND YOUR STUPID IMMORTAL GIRLFRIEND TOO!" She shouted, before dropping her other braid and sprinting back to the clearing. Sliding into place next to Ewan, both her hands quickly moved to release the fans and raise them up. Her glare shot over to her fellow camper, a snarl forming on her lips. It was pretty clear that if they all made it out of this alive, she'd probably end up killing him anyway.

"You're really lucky that I actually have morals and feel shitty about letting any of you die. When this is done and over with, we're have a nice longer conversation about what the fuck teamwork means, because apparently y'all don't know," she growled out, learning forward just a bit to make eye contact with both Leo and Ayda.

"That means you two fuckers too, you aren't off the hook. If you had just actually listened to me and RUN, we'd probably be far away from whatever the hell-"

Before she could finish speaking, the trees in front of the four ripped open to reveal the Minotaur. Poppy widened her eyes at the sight of it, before flinching in disgust at the glop of spit that flew forward to land right on her feet. A gagging noise sounded right after, even though she managed to hold her defensive position. Oh, now this shit was personal. And very, very disgusting.

Before she could even shout out orders, the Minotaur quite literally overstepped the group to sprint forward. Whipping her head backwards to watch the beast, her eyes widened to saucers when she saw who it was targeting. A second later, and Augustus was swooped off the ground like a discarded Barbie, ready to have its head popped off by a wicked child. Gasping at the scene, she could only watch as it began to shake him around like a rattle. The moment it stopped however, a sigh of relief sounded when she saw Augustus still alive.

Yet, the Minotaur didn't drop him. And even worse, it was looking at all of them now. Another roar sounded, and Poppy snapped her fan shut. Her power wasn't going to work here, that thing was way too powerful. She had only practiced on humans and demigods. But if she could still command them...

"OKAY! New plan!" She shouted over the clearing as the Minotaur moo'd at them, waving around her fellow group-mate like a threatening sword. "We get Augustus down, ALIVE! Zappy boy, no fucking lightening! If you hit that thing with it, Gus will be hit too!"

Darting her eyes around the clearing, all she could see was the broken car and Kali, still separated from the group. Zappy boy might be powerful, but she didn't trust him to not zap Augustus too. She had no idea what the tree girl could do, and Augustus was currently out of the game. Ewan was also good, but she didn't want to potentially take him out of the game too early. Which left one option...

"KALI!" She shouted across the clearing, trying to keep eye contact with the monster. "WE'RE GONNA BOOST YOU UP SO YOU CAN TOUCH THE MINOTAUR, OKAY?! YOU JUST HAVE TO USE YOUR POWER ENOUGH THAT IT DROPS AUGUSTUS!"

Not the most solid plan, but it could work. Maybe...

Darting her eyes over to the other three next to her, Poppy kept her fans ready and open. "I'm open to suggestions on how to get her close to the Minotaur. Right now, I don't give a shit which side you're on. If we don't work together, we're all gonna become filet mignon. So if any of you have any ideas, I'm listening. Also, I'm Poppy. This is Ewan, don't try to kill us now please."

LEO MENDOZA
SON OF JUPITER

Leo had been 100% prepared to tag-team the advancing threat with Ayda, internally scoffing at the cowardice of the delusional weirdos who were far too eager to abandon the mission that they had imperiously claimed as theirs less than five minutes ago. He had not at all been expecting his former captive (however short-lived that may have been) to approach him, looking rather resigned. The demigod’s brows raised skyward, baffled by the other’s actions. Was he going to help? Or did he just want a front-row seat to watch the impending bloodbath?

“Hope you’ve learned something in the past five minutes, or we’re both screwed.”

Against his will, Leo snorted and flashed him a roguish smirk which dangerously treaded into the territory of friendliness.

“Gotcha. Kill it straight off the bat.”

He blinked as the girl with the poisonous tongue slipped into position next to Mr Rugged, giving them all a verbal lashing which completely went in one ear and out the other. Great. A ragtag group of teens who had just been on the verge of killing each other now working together to fight off the common enemy. What could possibly go wrong?

A lot of things, apparently.

The trees in front of them were effortlessly wrenched open, revealing the monstrous beast that had been plaguing his grisly nightmares, his memories. A Minotaur. Leo couldn’t suppress the violent shudder that wracked through his body, the circuiting electric spluttering out as his stomach dropped like a stone.

No. Not again.

Leo grit his teeth, pinching himself in the arm. He had to stay focused now more than ever. Running into a Minotaur again felt like a personal attack and he was not going to stand for it. Blood rushing to his ears, Leo sucked in deep, calming breaths as he clenched his hands, knuckles blooming white. He prayed to the Gods that David and Janis were watching because they were going to be feasting on some steak tonight.

Unfortunately, instead of a spectacular and epic clash, the Minotaur overlooked them in favour of snatching up the brooding teleporter like a damned plaything. Leo literally gaped at the sight, the words falling from his mouth without any filter.

“Man really just got yoinked.”

That wasn’t good.

This was now a rescue mission as well as a fight to the death. Nothing could ever be straightforward, could it? Leo “tch’d” as the girl ordered him to not use his lightning and momentarily toyed with the idea of just going for it anyway, but, being the team-player that he was, he chose to listen. Her concerns weren’t unfounded. And, as much as he loathed to admit it, she was right. They really did need to work together if they wanted to get out of this situation alive.

“Alright, fine. We can maim each other later. I’m Leo and my friend over there is Ayda,” he jerked his head in Ayda’s direction, his expression schooled into one of unusual seriousness. Leo cast an assessing glance at the Minotaur, biting down hard on his lip as his brain worked overtime.

“As soon as we get your buddy down, we need to move to immobilise that ugly fucker,” he paused, “the Minotaur, not your friend – just to clarify.”

“The eyes, the legs, anything that slows it down because, after that, it’s free real estate.”

Leo’s gaze narrowed as he judged the distance between the Minotaur and the girl that Poppy had called Kali. It was quite short... maybe...? He turned his head, fixing his new allies with a look, determination brimming in those hazel depths.

“I can make her fly.”

With no time to dilly-dally, Leo sprinted across to the halfway point between Kali and the beast. He dropped his gladius at his feet and knelt on one knee, interlocking his fingers in front of him in a familiar boost-up position.

“RUN AND JUMP! THE WIND WILL CARRY YOU!” Leo called out to her, a sudden gust of aggressive wind shaking the trees in response.

She was going to have to trust him.

Kaliavene Everette
Daughter of Thanatos

A loud roar rattled Kali to her bones, and the teen ducked behind the nearest tree as a giant meaty fist swiped the air just behind her. Yelping, she hunkered down and gripped her staff as it bellowed again, the roaring moo nearly making her soil herself. I didn’t sign up for this... I didn’t sign up for this... she thought to herself like a mantra, the only thing rooting her to reality at the moment.

“KALI!”

Kali’s eyes shot open. Someone was yelling her name? She dared peek around the tree, in time to see Augustus shaken like a rag-doll, surely causing more nausea than the worst of amusement park rides... or at least, if Kali were in his position, she’d certainly have lost her lunch by now.

"WE'RE GONNA BOOST YOU UP SO YOU CAN TOUCH THE MINOTAUR, OKAY?! YOU JUST HAVE TO USE YOUR POWER ENOUGH THAT IT DROPS AUGUSTUS!"

It was Poppy. Poppy was yelling. Augustus was in trouble. Poppy needed her. Augustus needed her. The team needed her.

“RUN AND JUMP! THE WIND WILL CARRY YOU!”

Now the strange zappy boy was yelling? The wind? What the heck? A gale pushed by her, nearly knocking the crouched teen even further onto her ass, and suddenly Kali got it. That was one of his powers, as a son of Zeus. Everything clicked into place.

So, despite herself, Kali rose to her feet. Despite her desire for self-preservation, Kali plotted a course to zappy boy in her mind. Her ponytail swayed in the wind, and she closed her eyes for a final moment to steel herself. This was stupid, this was dumb, this was going to get herself killed.

But her team needed her.

So, taking her staff into position, she ran towards Leo, in an angle that allowed her to wedge the far end of the staff into a large rock partially buried in the ground. Using the forward momentum from her run and an upwards jump, Kali pole-vaulted directly into Leo’s clasped hands, using them as a springboard to transfer the downwards plummet from the vault into direct upwards momentum, gaining a little extra height that a normal run and jump with boost would not ge. She could feel the wind dancing under her, and refused to look down, keeping her eyes solely focused on the disgusting minotaur’s face.

The first thing Kali’s hand collided with was the ring piercing the minotaur’s septum, slick with snot and condensation. Grimacing, her hand clasped around it and yanked the monster’s head back slightly as she landed rather awkwardly draped down the back of its head and neck like a nose cape. Staff in one hand, she swung a leg over its shoulder to boost herself onto its back, and then the other leg, locking her ankles together under its chin. Finally, she stuck her staff against its neck and locked it into her elbows, pressing the palms of her hands into the back of the monster’s skull.

Needless to say, it was the most awkward chokehold Kali had ever performed. But her positioning made it difficult for the minotaur to shake her, except if it got bright enough to slam her backwards against a tree. She sent a silent prayer to the gods that it was not a smart monster. A familiar tug to her navel signaled the triggering of her powers, and despite how much Kali attempted to control it, she couldn’t stop nor slow the tide of how much of the minotaur’s life force flowed into her.

Fur began to fall off the monster’s head, the skin underneath beginning to pale. The flesh directly beneath Kali’s palms began to rot and putrefy, putting off a pungent and frankly disgusting odor. She could feel its thundering footsteps as the creature began to lose balance, though with her concentration on maintaining form, she couldn’t tell if it’d released Gus yet or not.

Suddenly a sharp pain blossomed over her back, and Kali was dimly aware of the minotaur’s hand passing back to its side. She could only conclude that in an attempt to pull her off, it had actually raked its claws - or unmaintained and sharp nails - over her back, leaving large gashes and causing warm and sticky blood to start flowing down her sides. The pain only doubled when the stumbling monster walked backwards into a tree, successfully causing Kali to cry out in shock and pain, as well as release her grip on the beast. Her staff dropped to the ground, and as the minotaur picked itself up from the tree it’d knocked over in its fall, Kali lay in the splintered remains, unmoving save for a shallow rise and fall of her chest.

augustus evans
son of cronos

Augustus ran after Kaliavene like a hunter, trying to meet her pace. In the corner of his eyes, Ewan and Poppy stayed behind to join the two idiots in the fight. What the hell you think you’re doing? No time to think, well that didn’t fit Augustus’ lifestyle so well but still. A loud roar was audible and to his surprise, it sounded dangerously close. Daring a glance over his shoulder, a cold shudder went down his spine. Before he had time to react, he could feel a tight grip around his whole body. His feet lifted from the ground when he realized this disgusting bastard of a minotaur held him in his clutches. The demi-god struggled to catch a breath as the monster almost crushed his bones.

"Fuck", he hissed. He couldn’t move his arms as they got stuck completely in the monster’s hand. It shook him up as if he was nothing more than a doll and with everything turning, he couldn’t pinpoint his group anymore. Like this he felt powerless, and even though he never liked to admit it, he seriously needed the help of his crew. While Augustus still fought like a lunatic, using all his strength to bend the monster’s hairy clutches, he could hear the others introducing themselves.
Oh so they had time to kindly get to know each other, how nice and appropriate. Note the sarcasm in his thoughts. "Guys, attention on the big guy", he yelled out. Luckily they followed his…let’s call it…request as the guy who introduced himself as Leo, helped setting Kalia up to help out and free him.

It only took a few moments until the small forest valley was filled with the scent of rotting flesh. At least Kali had the balls to actually do something. He himself couldn’t contribute much to the fight to this point, but the minotaur started to lose its balance and tottered against the tree with all its weight. The clash against the old tree, made the beast clench its fist as an instinct to hold on to something. Augustus felt a cracking sharp pain in his leg as he let out a muffled moan. Just then when that ugly thing focused its attention on the half-goddess, he got the chance to push away its fingers. Gravity pulled him back to the ground and his body hit the hard terrain. That gave him a good spook but they had no time to lose. They had to get that thing off of Kalia before it would crush her completely. The closest person to him was Ewan. Good.
"Hammond"

He tried standing up and even though his leg couldn’t hold all of his weight anymore, the adrenalin rushing through his veins made it work. He limp-ran towards Ewan and grabbed his shirt roughly. Bad news was that time flies, good news is that Augustus is the pilot. And just when his hands met the cloth of Ewan’s camp halfblood shirt, they did have a chance against that thing.
All of the movements stopped, but not just for him, for Ewan as well. Through his touch he was able to connect others to the time field he created. He looked at his companion’s hazel eyes. "Go get Kalia. She’s injured." He slowly let go of Ewan, concentrating all his strength to bend the time axis to his will for the both of them. "Just go." He watched the others, calculating their next move. That Leo guy was close by and had dropped the gladius. He took a deep breath and pulled out his dual swords. This thing had to have a weakness.

And then there it was, a slight sparkle. The eyes.

Ayda Moore
Daughter of Somnus
God of Sleep, Father of Dreams
The group seemed to come together. The people who had just moments ago been her enemy stood beside Leo, covering her position and facing their new foe. As she drew her arrow back, sleep clouded her mind. Not now, not right now. But she slumped forward, her forehead scraping against the tree Ayda had been hiding behind and her body crumpling to the ground.

The dream world always appeared to Ayda as a transfixing realm of light and smoke. Clouds parted, and she saw herself, shrouded in shadow. The prophesy came as it always did, drifting around her on the whisper of voices pieced together from her memory. These words came to her nearly every night, though they had never forced themselves into her waking moments as they did now.

Four will quest and four will meet.
Four will travel to four defeat.
Two will fall and six will rise,
To bond or break their ancient ties.

Ayda ripped herself from the clutches of sleep before the prophesy finished. She knew it well she didn't need to hear it again. The effort left her panting, cheek pressed against the tree's bark. Reality came back to her slowly. She moved her fingers in the soil, remembering where she was. Her bow twisted in her hand as she pushed back to her feet. They had been in a fight.

All at once, she was brought back. The sounds of battle hit her senses; screams, roars, and orders of fighters. Her arrow was notched and drawn in moments. As the arrow head pointed towards the monster, trying to find a weakness to exploit.

She needed to focus, but her mind kept wandering back to the words she knew from the sleeping realm. Why had those words forced themselves into her consciousness. Back at camp, that had only ever happened with urgent messages. But this... this was nothing new. Ayda couldn't shake the idea that she needed to puzzle this out now. There was something important in this message. Something important to this fight. She tucked her body behind the tree once more, frantically searching through the words she knew so well.

Four had accepted the quest. Four had met with Apollo. Four traveled away from the camp... All at once she knew. It hadn't just been a prophesy for her quest. It prophesied the joining of two questing groups. Her two quest mates had fallen, now a group of six would rise.

She'd been warned by the legion's previous Argur to never attempt to interpret prophesy, but she was sure of this. So sure, she couldn't be wrong!

With new found confidence, she took up her position once more. Six heroes, fighting together. This felt right. This felt like fate had fallen into it's place. It had been divined, and it was so.

Ayda's arrow flew, burying it's self deep into the back of the creature's neck. They simply had to make it out of this alive. Then she would tell them. She could explain everything... right?
