The Heavy Metal Queen
Jarek’s thousand-yard blank stare wasn’t so easily interrupted by the random student’s questioning and hand waving in front of his face. His brain just seemed to skip a gear and struggled to restart. Whatever he saw messed with his mind and froze his nervous system. He didn’t even notice Trevor herding the student to the back of the bus, only to return and meet his gaze.
As the fellow teacher sat back down and explained the situation, Jarek blinked a few times and slowly came back to reality. The ears on his head picked up every word Trevor mentioned about the current situation and his uneasy feelings about this place. He nodded silently in agreement, secretly glad he wasn’t the only one that was feeling weird about the area. As Trevor concluded his half of the conversation, Jarek nodded again and simply spoke, “Agreed.”.
Seemingly out of nowhere, another teacher approached the duo. ‘Wait...I’ve seen him before…uh, I think his name is Jeremy if I remember correctly.’ Jarek thought to himself as he turned his worried-looking face to the newcomer. But before he could say anything, a scream came from some other location on the bus. Jarek got about halfway out of his seat to help before Trevor raced over to address the situation. “Looks like Trevor’s got it under control.” he mumbled to himself before sitting back down. With all the commotion happening around him, Jarek thought it was best to just stay out of the way for now. It seemed like Trevor and Evelyn had control of the situation anyways.
After seating himself, Jarek turned back to that Jeremy guy with a slightly annoyed look and plainly asked, “What the hell is going on around here?” he gestured to the latest noisy group, “It’s like all of a sudden, everyone’s freaking out.”. An exasperated sigh left his mouth as Jarek stooped over, his arms balancing on his knees and his face looking at the ground. He took this posture mostly to try and cancel out the visual and auditory commotion of the students, but he also needed to break eye-contact with Jeremy. Jarek had forgotten how downright attractive that guy was. The last thing this situation needed was more drama.
