Raven gave soft whimper as the robot left and she looked at the officers who took her to the ambulance once it arrived on sight as the men and women checked her over she shivered out of fear ribbons wrapped around her arms and neck in a comforting way leaving some of it lose in case she needed to get away or attack if necessary.

"One, large mocha with almond milk, and, one, small pineapple-strawberry smoothie—for the lovely ladies." ,Sam flashed the two girls—who seemed to be around his age—his boy scout smile, "Will that be all?". The pair of girls nodded in agreement and said, "Yes." simultaneously. Sam maintained his gentle-charming smile and walked away, from the table, back inside the coffee shop. Sam worked in this coffee shop for most of his time in Metropolis, and it's treated him well. He's met a few big time authors, a director, and even politicians—even though Sam could care less for politics. Not to mention, Sam was one of the highest paid workers in the building, based on his years working there.

All in all, The Split Bean—the name of his place of work—wasn't much to handle for ol' Samey. Inside the coffee joint was similar to the interior of a 2020's coffee house. Wooden floors, plotted plants, chalkboard walls to write messages, practically anything that was considered hip for that time period.

Sam returned behind the counter and gazed across the customers sitting, chatting, going about their daily life. Most of the chatter revolved around the enormous object floating in space. 'What could it be?' , 'Is it aliens?' , 'Has General Zod returned?' that last question made Sam chuckle to himself. As far as Sam knows, Zod was still locked up in the Phantom Zone after attempting to steal the remaining Sunstone Crystals, which were locked away in the Fortress of Solitude. If it weren't for the extreme weather conditions in the Arctic, Zod's armada would have penetrated the Fortress' defenses.

With all the talk about the space anomaly however, Sam has been half tempted to just fly out there and investigate for himself. The only downside to that idea is: if Sam needed assistance, it would take a while for anyone to arrive. Besides, what if it was just an enormous asteroid? It'd be pointless to just fly all the out there then.

The sound of keys jingling brought Sam out of his eavesdropping. In front of him was none other than a friend from the Daily Planet, who also shared the name 'Sam'. Except, this Sam was a girl.

"Hey, Kansas, you all right?" ,Sam smirked, amused by her new nickname for the young Kent.

"Never better. So, I'm guessing you want the usual?"

"The bizarr-so (A/N: see what I did there? ;p) with two extra shots of caffeine and whipped cream on top, with a drizzle of caramel sauce." ,both Sams said at once.

"With a dash of piss." ,Kent mumbled.

Samantha grabbed a dime from the donation cup and chucked it at the back of Sam's head. "I heard that you jerk!"

Being the soft-hearted gentleman that Sam is, he whimpered and scratched at the back of his head, as if the dime toss really hurt. "It was only a joke." ,he chuckled softly.

"Yeah, yeah, just make my poison." ,she demanded.

As commanded, Sam made his friend her desired caffeinated beverage. When he finished adding the caramel sauce on top of the whipped cream, and spun around in the direction of the other Sam, she reached over the counter and ripped the cup from his hand. As she chugged the drink down, Kent watched in amusement at her antics. Until three firetrucks flew by the coffee shop, that is.

Sam's attention went from his friend downing the hyper drink, to the firetrucks that were racing towards their destination. Listening in at superhuman levels, Sam could hear a fire alarm nearly three blocks away. In addition to the sound of the blaring alarm, the scent of smoke was becoming pungent.

At his point, Sam was in the mindset of Superman, and he stared at the crowd formulating outside, looking down the street to where the firetrucks were headed; in that group was Samantha, and that gave Sam all the reassurance that he won't be snooped on. In a snap, Sam ran to the back of the coffee house, exiting through the alleyway door. The alleyway was in-between 'The Split Bean' and the 'Coffee Hut'. Both stores selling caffeinated beverages and pastries; which sculpted a rivalry between the two businesses.

Time was being wasted and Sam knew it to be true. So he didn't waste another second, and he ripped open his shirt—the Superman crest formulating from his skin. In a matter of seconds, the rest of Sam's clothes had completely been shed, along with his glasses, and he was flying towards the burning building. A funnel of air circulated around Sam, followed by an ear piercing boom, signaling he had just broken the sound barrier.

MTS Coffee Hut -> Burning Building

Serena downed the rest of her coffee and tossed it into a garbage can. Suddenly, the sound of sirens were followed by three full-sized fire trucks speeding past the Coffee Hut. Without thinking, Serena's gaze went to the fire. She could see the smoke from where she stood. Without thinking, she clenched her fists and blinked once. The rush of sirens took on a lower tone, and the rush of the wind made a heavy whistle.

[Time Slowed]

Everything around her took on a warped appearance. The fire trucks, the air, the sunlight bouncing off of the ground, and finally, a caped superhero in the air, above the firetrucks. Serena paid little mind to this caped individual and simply sprinted past a firetruck at what would look to the bystander as immense speeds. In her eyes, however, everything moved at a snail's pace.

Despite already moving at nearly two times the speed of sound, there wasn't a sonic boom. At least, one that could be seen normally. Serena shielded her face as she made her way straight towards the burning building. She couldn't believe it. She had gotten here before any other superhero. This was shocking, and a first too! As soon as she came to a stop in front of the burning building, the flow of time returned to normal. Sounds, such as the firetruck sirens and the roar of the flames returned to their full intensity, and everything was lit up in the right way.

[Time Restored]

Serena quickly realized what was wrong here as she covered her mouth and nose with the front of her shirt and started to make her way into the burning building. I forgot my mask. No, wait...a vigilante doesn't hide behind a mask. No, wait, that's EXACTLY what they do. A hero doesn't. Dammit, people are probably burning in there.

As much as Serena didn't want to accept it, someone had to go inside there to bring people out. And that's exactly what Serena decided to do. She narrowed her eyes and lunged forward. The world warped around her once again, and she sprinted straight into the fire. Running past active flames was never a good idea, and at this speed all they did was lure them in her direction. The flames licked at her clothes, but they never lit up. Her face felt hot, yet her breathing was slower than it should be. The smoke that couldn't be filtered by her shirt went straight into her mouth, but didn't do much. Everything was slow. She looked around the room, her vision hazy from the fire. She could barely make out human outlines, and there was more than one. She decided on taking the first one she could find.

[Time Slowed]

A man, about five-foot-nine and slightly on the heavy side, lay in the dead center of the room, flames creeping closer to him. Serena was about to run right over him and, with time slowed like this, he would've been dead. She let out a sigh, which was clearly visible as a gap in the smoke before fading away, then reached down to lift him up. As she did, her foot touched the flames. Pain shot through her leg, and, while she wouldn't get scorched so easily, it hurt like hell. Shit! I'm on fire!

She bent down, despite the scorching pain, and hoisted the man up. Hopefully, he wouldn't have to endure the relative effects of her power. Serena bent down and made a dash for the building exit, careful not to step down too hard and cause the building to crumble. Smoke built up in her throat, yet she held back the urge to cough. Doing so would immediately revert time back to normal, and be the end of herself and this man.

The door was just barely out of reach. Two seconds. One second. One more step. Yes!

With a strained grunt, Serena crossed the threshold of the burning building. She sprinted an extra five meters with the man before doubling over, falling on her side and letting the man fall on top of her to cushion his landing. Before she knew it, everything was back to normal. She had saved just one life. One, out of an unknown number of people in that burning building. To save all the lives, one would have to put out the fire without damaging the building.

[Time Restored]

Serena glanced down at her leg. The fire had gone out, and there was a bit of light burning. Not too bad. Then she looked at the man. He was in bad condition. Burns all over his body, and the smoke must've asphyxiated him to the point where he was unconscious, and barely breathing. Without thinking, Serena placed a hand on his forehead, then another hand on his throat. She paced her heavy breathing and closed her eyes, tight. She imagined the clock, the imaginary one that she so heavily relied upon to use the more dangerous parts of her powers.

Tick. Tock.

Tock.

Another Tock.

Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

It was four seconds since Serena extracted the man from the burning building. She opened her eyes and looked down. As if someone was playing a film on rewind, the man's wounds began to shrink. A real life second meant a second back on this man's body. Serena restored his condition to five seconds, before he had a chance to be so badly burned. Unfortunately, he was unconscious. Serena sat there on the concrete next to the man, helplessly staring at the burning building. Any more use of her power, and she'd injure herself and other people.

Soon after several hours Raven was released from the hospital and headed to a local coffee shop she had seen awhile ago wondering if they had anything besides coffee to drink and get something to eat while she was at it.

Once she got there she saw the name and snorted "the split bean not the weirdest name iv heard of" she muttered as she walked in and looked around a bit before heading to the counter "hi do you have tea and maybe so sort of pastry or something to eat here?" She asked hoping they did As she was tired and just wanted to sit down as she moved her shirt down covering the bandages on her torso.

As she sat down with her food she saw fire trucks and frowned at this as she watched them pass by and head to a building. Sighing softly to herself she got up and headed in the direction of the flames as she heard screams of a mother crying out for her child whom was still in the burning building, hearing this Raven rushed in and looked around for the child the white substance covering her form from head to toe as she soon heard a faint coughing "kid where are you" she called as a child's voice cried out for help close to her. Soon finding the child she looking up hearing groaning as the ceiling gave out as Raven created a Orb around the two of them protecting them from the flames and falling debris as Raven passed out from hitting her head on a wooden board as she covered the child both inside the Orb.
