My name is Barry Allen, and I heal fast. Following the ass-kicking I received from Snart and Rory, I thought I’d be out of commission for a while. Those burns hurt like hell, and it doesn’t matter that they were all healed within an hour; to me, it felt like an eternity. Cisco had to drive me home that day. This fact alone didn’t help my self-confidence. A pain flared through my body every time I tried to run, and if that made me need to rely on free lifts, then I was definitely not going out as the Flash any time soon.

However, my powers had other plans. I was back in full health by the end of the day, a desperate itch to kick some high-tech thief ass at the forefront of my mind. I called up Cisco and asked him to see if he could dig anything up on Snart and his partner. While he was nowhere near as skilled in computers as he was in gadgetry, he could still hack into the FBI’s database, and that was all I needed. Within half an hour he emailed me everything the Bureau had on Snart and Rory, and I began to do my homework.

Leonard Snart was a pretty interesting guy. Born in Keystone, his father was an abusive man, and would frequently beat Snart and his sister, Lisa. Poor guys, the only escape they had was their grandfather, who’d wisk them away into his icecream truck; their only safe refuge during their entire childhood, if I was to judge. As soon as he was old enough, Leonard left his dad, taking his sister with him, and turned to a life of crime right here in Central City. What started as a series of petty thefts and armed robberies with some lackies soon turned into something bigger as he recruited Mick Rory into his little rogue group, and soon the two were planning heists the likes of which would make Ocean’s Eleven look like amateurs. However, when robbing a museum in Coast City, a concerted effort by both the police and the FBI saw them caught and taken to trial, where they were found guilty on all counts. They served some time before being released on good behaviour, and now, they were back to their old ways, this time armed with guns right out of a science fiction movie.

I skimmed through the files again to see if I’d missed anything, and sure enough, I had. They mentioned a suspected hideout down at the Central City Docks, one which officials had raided but found nothing incriminating. Straight away I knew that this was where they’d be. Feeling as though there was no time to spare, I ran out of my bedroom window, suit spilling out of my ring and fitting perfectly around my body. Leaving a trail of lightning behind me, I made my way to the Docks.

Could Have Been Me Part 4 (of 4)

(Actually no Advisories)

Dinah shakily staggered out of the rundown building. Already the fire was spreading, consuming the bodies and evidence. She clutched her hands together to get them to stop shaking. She hadn't meant to Cry. The fear had overwhelmed her as the duo... Dinah shook her head trying to cast the image away. She had just lived through it once, she wasn't eager for twice.

"Dinah Drake?" The sudden words make her jump and twist around. Her hands raised in a defensive posture.

The person she found herself facing was a man. He had his hands held out slightly to the side, palms up and empty. She stood there, tense. After a few minutes he spoke again.

"Miss Drake?" The man repeated.

"No." Dinah was surprised at how hoarse her voice was. The clinical part of her brain knew it was from holding back the Cry, and failing.

"Well," The man said slowly. "If, by any chance you were Miss Drake. I would tell you that I was here on behalf of my employer. He's been following you since this whole mess started. And he has been impressed. Very Impressed."

He let the words hand in the air between them. Dinah hadn't relaxed at all, still extremely tense from her ordeal.

"You've been following me?" She demanded upset.

The man shook his head. As if saddened that was what she had taken out of his words.

"Your skill marked you, yes. But he has always been more interested in what you an do without it also."

"My skill?" Dinah blinked, unsure of what he was talking about.

"Your voice. That scream. Very impressive. Sonic vibrations. Comes from your meta-gene."

Dinah blinked again. "Meta-gene?" She was beginning to sound like a broken record. Still, the man just nodded his head.

"It's more of a working name at this point." He was dismissive. "A label for what people like you can do."

"People like me?"

Dinah was sure the man would be smiling if she could see his face. "Indeed. Meta-humans. Again, a working name. We're sure it wont stick." There was definite amusement in his voice. "I'm going to reach into my pocket, okay?"

When Dinah didn't say anything he moved, slowly, into his pocket. She was so tightly wound when he pulled his had back out, she was sure she was going to hear her muscles tear. When he reached out his hand, she flinched.

"What is..." Dinah said as she looked at the small white paper in his hand.

The man waited for her to take it. When it became apparent she wasn't going to, he nodded his head.

"It's a business card." Dinah would have called him out on being patronizing, if she still wasn't having trouble processing things. "My employer wants to offer you a job. Ne tat your specific set of skills is quite suited for."

Dinah was silent for a second. "My meta-gene?" She ventured.

"No, your other skills. Your mind and your ability to be unseen as it were. You infiltrated Mr. Whorrson's house quite nicely."

"What sort of job?"

Again she couldn't see if he smiled. But she knew he did. She frowned in return, getting tired of feeling out of step. Off her game.

"To find men like Jakob. Men no one else will touch because their money or their friends. My boss doesn't want them around anymore. Neither do you. You can make the difference for people like Candy. People no one cares about."

Dinah had to admit it was a god tag line. Using her friend's death against her. Working her while she was still shaken up. But she was getting her feet back under her.

"Why me?" She waved her hand as soon as she finished talking, cutting him off. "I know you said it was my skill set. But that," She gestured to the burning building. "That wasn't skill. That was stupidity."

"Yes, and you handled it quite well." The man still held the card.

"So I what?" She dropped her hands finally, only to wrap them around her naked body. "I find these men and kill them?" She looked into the man's shadowed face. "I'm no killer."

"You wont be an assassin. We'll give you what you need to take these men down. If you want gadgets to put James Bond to shame, you'll have them. If you would like to kill them, we'd look the other way. We'll give you a better apartment. A small stipend, say a thousand dollars every two weeks. You'll keep working both jobs though, it's a lovely cover."

Dinah looked down at the card in his hand. It was pure white with a set of hand written numbers. She licked her lips as she considered. The pay was good. And she'd be able to keep doing good for people. Dinah looked up again at the man's face. The shadows exposed nothing. That decided her.

"Your jacket, and I'll do it." Her voice was steady with no doubt. "Just tell me when and where."

Arch 3: The Love of Man’s World

Diana wondered around the streets of Washington DC, unsure of where to go from here. She hadn't exactly made the right decision in leaving Steve behind with the limo. Steve Trevor knew this land better than she did and her storming off before her meeting with the president probably wasn't the most productive decision to her cause either. In the heat of the moment she’d blown up. How many times would she be shot at? That was the third time and She’d only been in this country for a whole day. These people sure needed help if this is how violent they act on a daily.

Diana’s wandering lead her to a small park. The grass was green and there were trees. The atmosphere here was familiar to Themyscira in regards to the greenery. It was a nice escape from the drab concrete and smog the rest of the city had to offer. Diana looked around at the people. They were happy and seemed to be having a good time, then they saw Diana and their demeanor changed.

Parents grabbed their children and men got in front of their dates to protect them. Diana sighed and turned to walk away but before she could she heard little footsteps running up to her from behind.

“Wonder Woman!” cried the voice of a little girl.

Diana pulled back the hood her cloak and turned to face the child. She could see that the girl had been crying and a close behind her there was woman whose mouth was agape. The woman looked petrified, she had the same face that any frightened mother would have. Diana had to tread carefully.

The little girl wiped a few stray tears from her eyes and Diana knelt down to her level.

What's wrong, little one?” Diana asked.

“They won't let me play pirates with them,” The little girl replied as he pointed a stubby finger at a group of little boys who were shaking so much they looked like they’d piss their pants at any minute.

Why won’t they let you play pirates with them?” Diana asked curiously.

“Because I'm the girl,” The little girl answered,”and they need someone to save.”

This absolutely appalled Diana. A girl needed to be saved?! Nonsense! Diana had been raised since birth on how to defend themselves. The little girl saw the distress in Diana’s face and turned around to walk away.

“It's okay. I don't even know how to sword fight.” The little girl said as if she’d been defeated.

Wait,” Diana said as she got an idea,”Would you like me to teach you?

The little girl turned around with a puzzle look on her face,”How to sword fight?”

Precisely,” Diana stated,”I come from an island of female warriors known as the amazons. From birth we are taught the art of the combat and part of that involves sword play.

Diana looked around and picked up a small stick and handed it to the little girl.

Here,” She said,”Now take a few steps back.”

The little girl took the stick and followed Diana’s orders. Diana dropped her cloak and drew her sword. The little girl looked frightened and so did the rest of the bystanders (or somehow even more scared then they had been before). What did they think Diana was going to do? Hurt the little girl?

This is a horizontal cut,” Diana said as she demonstrated the move with one sweep of her arm,”You use this attack when not in close quarters with the enemy. You can use this attack to knock a shield from your opponent's hand, gut out their entrails, or if you aim it right you can knock the sword from your opponent's hand before they even have a chance to attack you. Now you try.”

The little girl tried and Diana smirked. This girl’s form was almost perfect, especially for a beginner. She was a natural.

Now if you’re in close quarters with your enemy the thrust is a better move as it's more likely to cause real injury and less likely to be blocked by your opponent,” Diana stated as she turned to her right so the could demonstrate the move to the little girl as well as the footwork,”Do you understand?

“Uh-huh,” The little girl said smiling.

Now go. Unleash hell,” Diana shouted with a smile on her face as he held her sword aloft. The girl giggled and ran off, immediately jabbing one of the cowering boys in the side with the stick. Soon the other boys came to their senses and in mere moments they were back to playing pirates, the little girl holding her own.

Diana sheathed her sword and grabbed her cloak off the ground. The mother of the little girl took a deep breath and came over to Diana.

“You handled that very well,” The mother said smiling a little awkwardly,”That was a nice thing you did back there for my little Athen.”

Don’t mention it. When I see a fellow sister in need of assistance I give it. It’s what I was raised to do. I’m glad I could help,” Diana responded.

“Your mother must have taught you well,” The woman said just trying to make small talk,”My name’s Emma...and that little girl is my daughter, Athena.”

She's a very sweet girl,” Diana said smiling,”Name’s Diana but your news has started calling me Wonder Woman. I’m not sure how I feel about that."

“Well from the little I’ve seen here you’re a wonderful human being and according to the news you can...never thought I’d be saying this...fly, stop bullets, you have the strength of that Superman fella in Metropolis, and if how you just interacted with my granddaughter is any indication, you have a wonderful heart.”

Diana smiled,”Thank you. It’s good to hear that I’m not the monster everyone seems to think I am.”

“My little Athena is a wise little lady and a good judge of character...I’m not going to lie. When she ran to you I was scared at first but after seeing how you handled that it helped to put me at ease. You’re not a monster. People just have a problem with what they don’t understand, always have, and probably always will,” Emma stated truthfully.

Thanks for the advice,” Diana said,”I’ll keep that in mind.”

Athena came running back over to Diana and her mother. She was bouncing up and down excitedly and pointed at a man who was setting up and ice cream cart near the edge of the park.

“Mommy! Mommy!” The little girl shouted anxiously.

“What is it little one?” Emma asked.

“The ice cream man! The ice cream man!” Athena stated cheerily.

Emma asked as she took Athena’s hand and headed over to the man with the ice cream cart. Athena got her cone and happily started to devour it. Emma smirked and turned to Diana,“Care for a scoop?”

Well I have never had ice cream before. Why not?” Diana said a little confused,"Yes. I will take a scoop."

“I’ll take one and get me another for my friend,” Emma said as she paid the man for two more cones. Diana took the cone and looked at the scoop of vanilla ice cream on top as if she was debating on whether or not to try it.

“It’s the greatest food in the world! You should try it!” Athena giggled.

Diana looked at the little girl and took her first ever lick of ice cream. The savory vanilla soaked into her taste buds and Diana beemed.

ICE CREAM IS WONDERFUL!” Diana exclaimed.

Then she heard a familiar voice behind her.

“Diana! Thank God I’ve found you!” Steve trevor exclaimed breathlessly. His face was red and sweat was dripping from behind his blond hairline. It was obvious he’d been running around trying to find her.

Steve! Have you ever had ice cream?! You must try it!” Diana exclaimed again.

“Yes Diana...I’ve had ice cream. We have to go back to the White House. The president wants to know where you are...He’s getting worried you're not going to show. He’s a very busy man you know,” Steve explained.

You sound like my mother,” Diana said.

“Diana! I’m your appointed liaison...I don’t like it any more than you do but-”

Steve, this place, your home is filled with so many wonderful things. Ice cream and rock and roll...oh! The wonderful things!

“Diana...time to go.”

Steve hold your horses...I’m coming,” Diana said. She turned to Emma and Athena, bowing her head politely,”Thank you for your hospitality but I must take my leave. Have a great evening.”

“Bye-Bye Wonder Woman,” Emma said as Diana waved back at her, Steve and Diana wandering down the path and out of the park, heading back to the White House.
