Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Before I forget... craft is house-ruled.

Craft will be handled slightly different. It works like Linguistics, in that each dot provides one element (Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Wood) or type (Magitech, Bio-Genesis, Fate, Glamour, Necrotech). And if you are at 5 dots, you have 5 different craft 'types', all which are rolled at 5 die each.

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Alright, so after extensive discussion with Haku, there's something I'd like to talk with everyone about.

Open Graceful Wicked Masques at p.134 please.

Now, under the heading for Adjurations, it is written and I quote "'Mutation granted by oaths are transitory. They don't permanently increase a raksha's mutation points for the purpose of Essence maximum or experience point costs, but they can push her (Essence + mutation points) above her (Willpower + 4). An unwise raksha can swear to an oath that calcifies her."

Now I could go on about the absurdity that is mutations granted by oaths being transitory but NOT being transitory mutations. Everyone got that straight? Took me a while to understand that. Poor terminology at work.

But my actual point of contention is about the part which states that they don't affect Essence maximum. That is a filthy lie. Though it is true that it does not do so directly, by promising calcification by using the *same* pool as the one under the heading on page 151 for "Mutations directly place a cap on the raksha's maximum Essence." they've effectively limited your Essence just the same. After all, even if you can technically raise your Essence, as it does allow it explicitly, the fact that it will calcify you effectively places a cap on your Essence just as effectively as if they'd just given up on the charade and outright combined those pools into a single one.

Now, of course, that's somewhat ridiculous and contradictory. But that's not all, I'd also like to point out that this is the ONLY place in the entire manual where they mention going over (Willpower + 4) provoking calcification. If there's somewhere else they mention that, let me know. I've looked. I know you can't go over it however, even if you want to. So there's that. But that's hardly the same kind of consequence, not nearly.

And so since this bothers me greatly as it promises you freedom that is not present yet I also do not want to break the system they offer by devaluating completely the high-end oaths, me and Haku have come up with an alternate system for calcification versus the essence cap.

(Mutation Points + 2) < (Willpower + Essence)

Which effectively benefits you for having higher Essence, allowing you to put greater pressure on your Staff. (As this is where oaths go)

Mutation Points, to be fully clear, meaning the sum of permanent mutation points and oath mutation points.

Whereas henceforth, the (Essence + Mutation Points) < (Willpower + 4) check for the Essence cap will only take in consideration permanent mutation points.

In this way, it allows Adjurations to work as written without any hitch as they no longer affect the essence cap while still putting great value on higher-end oaths. After all, the consequences of an inadvised oath could be fatal.

And so I've fully explained the reasoning behind my proposed change to the rules. I'm sure you probably all have strong opinions on the subject, so I suggest you let them be heard so that our ST can decide for himself what to make of this.

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

I like the proposed method. It helps to maintain the value of Oath mutation points while at the same time keeping the calcification mechanic there to maintain a reasonable cap.

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Very nicely thoughtout argument. I honestly cannot deny it, as the entire Mutations and Essence Cap have maintained its muddy waters for me! Still this clears it up a bit, and so I agree with it. I've recently read from Chapter 3 (And some of Chapter 2... xD ) on to the storytelling chapter and I see no other mention* of the (Willpower + 4) thing, so ya, you have the right of it, quite a blunder on their part assuredly xD

(*Note: I read it... but just moments before sleepy time, so if it really is there and my tired eyes skimmed pass it... then oops. But honestly even a scan of the sections didn't bring any up xD )

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

I think people just don't wanna be calcified... unlike dragonblooded who can take all the mutations they want...

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Curse those sneaky Dragonblooded. Oh we're mortals at the core, we need not fear Creation's Calification process, no siree!

Anyhow, I have now added, sheet and super background to my first post on pg 1 ^^ Assuredly its flawed, in the time it took me to put it together certainly something has to be off. xD And I still have a description or two to concoct ^^

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

You know... at this rate, I'll likely end up with far more than the alloted people I'd say I'd take in... xD

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Question: What's your stance on merits and flaws?

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

They are a one on one, case by case basis. ie you can ask, but I have the final say if they're allowed or not.

As an example, legendary breeding is acceptable in my eyes. Sun-seared... not so much.

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Right. And should we post sheets in their varying stages of completion in that subforum I saw?

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

*waves hand* there is no mini subforum where I'm doing up background material for this game.

You could post here thou... I will say this much. It looks like alot more players than I expected would get accepted.

Thus proving my insanity.

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Insanity is a good thing. All the best people are. :P

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Okay... I'll be sending out PMs so that people get the message. But long story short... I'm a soft fuzzy teddybear of an ST who can't say no.

Thus everyone is in. I'll just need to decide how to implement this.

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Am interested, but still trying to figure out the character. it's not easy fitting my image of him into the stats, or vice-versa

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..

Why not talk about what you want? In terms of character. ie what is the theme/concept?

It's a DB... but what is his story? Is there a character archetype you're going to base him on?

EDIT - also, had added you to the group and forum. There's some more background fluff in there.

Re: [DB/Fae Game Recruitment] In the service of the senate..
