Height/Character sizes For the purpose of height, animals will be split into two categories for the time being; Common Animals and Ancient Animals Common animals are the animals that are usually found in the RP, smaller ones, usually ranging from Mice up to about the size of a Wolf, very very RARELY will animals that are larger than wolves, in real life, show up in Paies. Animals in Paies are about the size of an average human in our world. All animals (unless magically or alchemically manipulated, or born with something that makes them much smaller than the average) Will fit within the average height range of humans, somewhere between four and a half feet (137cm) to about seven feet (213cm). Your animal's real world counterpart will still have an effect on their height in the RP, but they will still fall within (or relatively close to) the average world height. For example if your character is a mouse, chances are they'll probably fall somewhere on the lower edge of the height range, whereas if your character is a wolf, they'll probably be much taller than most. Now that's not to say there aren't TALL mice and SHORT wolves, anything is possible, but its going to be very unlikely that you see a mouse thats eight feet tall. Food The vast majority of the world is Vegetarian and, because Cows are ancient animals, by extension, vegan. This includes animals that would usually be primarily meat eaters. The usual diet for most animals consists of fruits, vegetables, nuts, rice, beans, and insects. Other milk substitutes have been invented like coconut, almond and soy milks and so products that are made using "dairy" can also be found here and there, tho obtaining these milks is usually on the more expensive side, making them more typical in wealthier establishments. Somewhere out there, there are probably some sick animals who partake in the flesh of other animals, tho they are usually treated the way a cannibal would be treated in our world. Fish Fish are, in Paies, the same size as they would be in our world, and have some rather basic level intelligence, tho they are not smart enough to have developed nations and large cities. There are certainly more intelligent fish that would fit in the "ancient" animal category, such as dolphins or whales, but they are not present in the oceans surrounding Paies. There usually wont be any fish larger than a bass. On occasion the fish are used for things like recon, or to gather information about rough waters, although with the language gap, most fish are intellectually separated from the masses. Languages There are a number of different languages throughout Paies. Before the unification of the Nations of Callcaus, the languages were usually specific to countries, however after the unification, all of Callcaus began to speak one unified language known as Caulian. Due to its large size and its position in the center of the continent it became nearly impossible to travel or trade without knowing at least some Caulian. Soon Caulian became known as the most common language and most animals speak it. As wonderfully unifying as Caulian is, its not a very "intelligent" language and the scientists of Ceil soon found that it did not accurately describe their workings and the complexities of their magic and alchemy. After some time, Projian was developed out of a need to meet these requirements. It is a language that was developed from the dialect spoken in Ceil which slowly evolved into modern day Projian. Because the language was generally spoken by desert dwelling animals like lizards and snakes it tends to sound, to outsiders, like a long string of "S"s. Projian is not usually spoken casually, as it its very much a language used for science and you would be hard pressed to find it being used anywhere outside of Ceil or the desert. Instead most animals from Ceil (unless they have an interest in linguistics) speak Caulian, albeit with an accent. Caulquin is the language found more often in the north. Pruie being one of the more defined and powerful nations had its own language long before the unification. It was the language spoken by the birds and is a combination of clicks and singing, whos meaning is greatly fluid depending on the emotions put into each "verse". Because of this, animals usually ask if you "sing" Caulquin not "speak" it. Due to Pruie's size and its trade influince, Caulquin is most likely the second most popular language and is certainly no longer restricted to birds. Hyem is what can only be described as the language of the world itself. It has slowly been pieced together by the more magically inclined animals during their dreams. Occasionally one or two words from this ancient language were and are whispered to them during their rest. These words were shared and eventually the language began to form like a puzzle being put together. There are not many who can speak this language, or are even aware of it, tho some scholars may study it slightly in advanced courses. Indeed speaking the language when trying to Soulstream usually yields better results, as tho you are speaking to the world itself. |
