Collin Rune's brow beaded with sweat as he pounded away at a white-hot slab of metal, aiming to shape it into something resembling a weapon. With one bare hand gripping the slab and the other slamming the hammer down, his entire body was engulfed in a similar white shade of flame, the very image of his figure flickering in the light. Each hammer clang resonated with Collin, releasing every pent up emotion and frustration that he kept bottled up inside.
Two words echoed profoundly in his mind; he was unsure if the voice echoing these words was his or someone else's.
YOUR fault.
With every clang, these two words followed right after, as if to counteract his releasing of emotions. And with every echo, Collin's brow furrowed, his facial expression tensed, the clanging grew louder, and the flames around him grew even brighter.
CLANG
...
YOUR fault.

CLANG

CLANG
...
"COLLIN!"
The sudden mention of his name caught him off guard, and his grip on the hammer angled ever so slightly, striking the metal slab with a hammer's edge. Too much force into a sharp edge snapped the slab of metal in half, sending sparks every which way, catching Collin in the eyes.
"AGH! Gods, DAMMIT," the son of Hephaestus cursed. Yeah, his fire immunity helped protect against any bad damage but it still stung just a bit. "Who the he-"
Collin stammered as he peered out of teary eyes, trying to focus on the other person in the forge. "Z-Zeke?"
The other male grunted in response, warranting a bewildered look on Collin's face. The older male hadn't heard a single word from Zeke and Sarah ever since he had left camp to go on the quest. He hadn't even said goodbye, which only added to the raging flame that Zeke and Sarah had for him, seeing as he decided against their request. That single grunt was the only social interaction (if you could call it that) they shared in the time since Collin returned.
"What are you doing here...?"
No reply came from the younger male.
Collin hung his head in embarrassment, unable to make eye contact. After their little disagreement, he could only muster up the courage to remove himself from the situation. Chucking the now-orange-hot metal slab into the a bucket of water to quench, he laid down his hammer and moved in the opposite direction of Zeke. Thanks to the open-air forge's lack of walls, an easy exit wasn't too hard. But unluckily for him, one phrase stopped him in his tracks.
"It's not your fault."
A moment of hesitation ensued as Collin's usual calmness was sent into panic, trying to think of his next move.
"You're doing the whole 'It's my fault' thing because the other half of your team vanished. A testament to how dangerous the quest can be but I digress. I'm sure that's not the only thing you've been blaming yourself about."
Collin's moment of hesitation was extended a bit longer, flabbergasted at how Zeke practically read him like an open book. He opened his mouth to form a reply but was quickly cut off by the younger male.
"Shut it. I'm still mad at you so for me to still be mad at you, I'm not going to listen to you. I've seen the way you weave your words with the other kiddos, I'm not going to be one of them..."
A bell sounded in the distance.
"Heh, saved by the literal bell," Zeke scoffed, "Get outta here."
Even if Collin was the older guy here, he obeyed and promptly removed himself from the area. To an outside eye, the confrontation might leave some worried, but Collin couldn't help but feel a smile on his face.
Zeke's fine... If he talked to me, then he's over it. Everything's fine.
An adventurer's pack lay outside the front door of Cabin Nine, a slight sheen of dew glistening on its nylon surface. Snatching and slinging it over his shoulder, he started off towards the pre-decided rendezvous point to meet Lexi, his team member from his previous semi-successful quest. And while he was more than elated to see her again, he was quite unsure about the other two that were going to be joining the team.
Perhaps we can get some campers that won't be a total detriment to the team... Right?
His question was quickly answered as he came upon two redheads, one with quite the annoyed look on her face and a sheepish look on the other.
Oh boy.
He waved a quick greeting towards both of them, putting out his hand towards the new redhead.
"Name's Collin Rune, Hephaestus head counselor. We're missing one more person before we set off, yes? And what might your name be?"
A hope glimmered inside the copper-headed male, that maybe, just maybe this is going to work after all.
