Fantasy Dark Desert Highway (1x1)

"I still need to get you a far less....boisterous ride my man." Lucid chuckled watching Glen's crazed anxiety powered swerve into traffic. Then come to a grinding halt soon as they were in the midst of cars. Their wildly painted midlife crisis mobile sticking out like a sore thumb among the droll muted colors of the city goers around them.

"Da waffle place da waffle place!!" Yves suddenly cheered excitedly as he saw the map. He instantly knew what that meant.
"I guess it's decided then." Lucid grinned. "Gooooo. here Glen." He quickly pointed to a spot across the map. Catfey. They have the best waffles in the entire town. Best decorated too, both the food and the place. I think you'll love it to death. They'll be sad we didn't bring Johnny this time but ah well. His friends can wait until next time."

In his own uncomfortably awkward way, Glen returned the smile. “If the little guy says so, I guess we must, right?”

Glancing back to the road, the sight in front of them completely eradicated the goofy grin on his face. Cars and trucks as far as the eye can see, every single one bumper-to-bumper. In the distance wailed police and ambulance sirens while a droning helicopter or two seized the sky. Around them, horns blared and road-ragers screamed at each other. Not a very pleasant-sounding orchestra, but to a city slicker like himself it was nothing more than white noise.

With a groan, he slumped in his seat. “You two should probably get comfortable. This is going to be a long wait.”

In the end, it had taken the group almost an hour to arrive at their destination. Despite having a map, their driver’s incompetence managed to get them lost more than twice.

Once they had finally pulled into the parking lot, Glen was the first to breathe a sigh of relief. “We’re here,” he announced. “I hope you’re both hungry, ahaha.”

The exterior of the building was nothing special: a striped awning, some tables and chairs. But the inside was something else entirely. The whole room had stuff that was either shaped like a cat or had cats printed onto them. There were macarons and sugar cookies with paw print designs, various feline paraphernalia covering every inch of space, and little ears and tails decorating virtually everything.

It was a kitty-lovers paradise, and slouched in the doorway was the biggest fan of all. He stood there, mouth agape, unsure of how to react. The only outside force to snap him out of stunned silence was a voice.

“Hey, you’re back!” The barista exclaimed as soon as she saw Lucid. “I see you brought little Yves again, and...what’s this? A new friend?”

Glen nearly jumped through the roof when a pretty young lady glanced at him. Her beaming smile could turn any man into a blubbering fool, and he was no exception. Unable to form a coherent sentence, he just stood there, melting into a sweaty puddle while the hostess reached under the counter.

“It’s your lucky day, mister!” she cheered. “Every 20th visitor of the day gets a free gift! I think it’ll look great on you!”

She produced a headband, but not just any ordinary headband. It had fuzzy cat ears. Each one was adorned with ribbons and tiny bells that jingled with every movement.

Glen politely accepted the reward, and after a moments hesitation, put it on. “W-Well?” he asked, turning back to the father and son duo. “How do I look?”

Lucid and Yves struggled to stifle wild giggles. "Looks great on you old timer! Like you were born to have em." He teased light heartedly.Yves on the other hand threw up his hood to reveal a set of his own ears that matched.
"Come on let's goooo!! We're gonna lose Mr. Chonkers favorite spot and he's my favorite!" He tugged on Lucid's sleeve, to the point where his heels dug in and he leaned backwards more.

"Alright alright. Come on Glen." Lucid grabbed on to the man as he was dragged away by his child to a seat in a corner near the window, close to some cat trees in the back and several decked out boxes. One of which sat a ginormous fat cat that almost looked like someone had just hucked a wad shaved off fur onto the floor into the vague shape of a cat. And of which Yves was immediately on top of, trying to lift the monster and pull him into a booster seat beside them at the table. The cat had to weigh damn near more than him! Which needless to say caused some problems. "I'm just going to get my usual, you pick whatever you want. It's a special occasion. Hope you've got a sweet tooth though."

“I’ll just have a coffee.” Glen wearily watched the two from across the booth. Despite being welcomed with wide open arms, his presence still seemed out of place. No matter what either of them said or did to convince him otherwise, doubt would always lurk at the back of his mind. A tiny voice, whispering that he was nothing more than a burden weighing down on the happy little family.

The cat ear bells tinkled as he tilted his head. “That’s Mr. Chonkers, huh?” Glen motioned to the hefty feline. “He certainly lives up to the name.”

“He really does, doesn’t he?”

Glen nearly launched into orbit when a voice that belonged to neither Lucid or Yves agreed with him. His entire body jerked so suddenly that the entire table trembled along with it. There might as well have been an earthquake.

The barista from earlier was now standing beside the booth, holding a notepad and grinning pleasantly. “Can I get you boys any drinks? Something to eat? Waffles, pancakes?”

She paused, glancing at the blondest out of all of them. “Oh, but before that...I have a little something for you.”

Reaching into her apron, she pulled out yet another headband. The only difference was the colour, a luxurious white that contrasted the plain black one that the old man wore.

With a smile more sugary than any pancake or waffle, she presented it to Lucid. “There you go! Now you’re all matching!”
