Damsels and Dragons

Glad you guys are having so much fun with this, although I'd like to ask that you keep gif use to a minimum, as they're super distracting when posting < 3

Shitposting with memes is fine, though, so long as you don't go overboard.

On a more quest-related note, I have a meta vote for you all.

In retrospect, I've come to the conclusion that the huge introduction post detailing the ritual that summoned our protagonist (as well as who summoned him and why) was a very stupid idea. It closed off an entire plot thread of "How did I get here?" by effectively telling the players the answer. Granted, our main character doesn't know the answer, but you guys do, thereby removing any of the mystery and intrigue revolving around our heros sudden appearance in this new world.

As a result, I've decided to remove that entire paragraph. Entirely.

I'll be scrapping that plot thread wholesale and replacing it with an entirely different one, one more suited to give the players the ability to discover the origins of our hero's transportation In to bullshit cliche fantasy land.

The overall impact on you all will be... fairly negligible. At this point in the quest you haven't even touched the plot thread yet, so none of the choices you've made thus far will be impacted by swapping out that plot thread with a different one.

If you happen to be fond of them (which I know a few of you are) Bertrand and Lucinda will still be around, as they're important figures in the setting I've constructed. You'll still be able to interact with them at a later date if you all decide that's what you want to do. They just wont be the cause of the adventure anymore.

The voting system itself is going to be somewhat different. Since I feel very strongly about this, I'm going to say at least two thirds of the vote need to object to this change in order for me to keep it. I realize I'm basically rigging the vote in my favor, but again, I think that having that bit of mystery there will do more good for the quest in the long run.

So, here is the chance to completely rewrite the plot of the entire quest with a single vote:

>I object to the change.

>I consent to the change.

Honestly I feel like it really doesn't add the feeling of mystery. The feeling of knowing why we were summoned won't really go away.

>I object to the change, because it doesn't really make much difference.

OOC

Alright, the masses have spoken and the prelude has been undone. As far as the universe is concerned, it never happened.

OOC

>Disclose your true skill with magic

>Disclose your true origins

"Not much of a magician." You say, holding up the book and showing it to her. "I only just picked the thing up. That was my first attempt at magic, ever."

The woman looks surprised at this. "You must be very talented, then. It normally takes years of training to work the mystic arts, honing the mind and the soul to perfection."

You decide to avoid commenting on the fact that souls don't exist, partially because you don't want to offend this strange woman, but mostly because your fundamental understandings of the universe at large is being challenged on a regular basis since you got here. Who knows? Maybe souls do exist. Magic certainly does, it seems.

"That must be it." You say, noncommittally. "Maybe I just got lucky the first time. Do spells wear off? I'd hate to have to cast it every time I wanted to talk to someone." Maybe there was a magic item you could wear to make it permanent? A ring of languages or something?

The woman nodded, souring your mood. "Most magics wear off in time, but not for a while. Simple spells like that normally last for several hours." She says.

You're beginning to feel irritated again. Modern technology with the most sophisticated software and access to the sum total of human knowledge, the internet, was still struggling to provide an accurate translation for purely written language. The fact that a spell that could provide a real-time translation between to completely different languages spoken aloud was considered "simple" was infuriating, convince aside.

"Right. Well that's good. I suppose." You say, containing your frustration.

"Are you alright?" Asks the woman, frowning now. "You seem upset."

Sighing, you put the book away for use later and shake your head. "Just frustrated. I have no idea where I am or how I got here." You say. "Where IS here, anyway? And who are you?" You ask.

The woman looks mortified at her rudeness at not properly introducing herself. "Forgive me, my name is Matilda, Holy Knight of the Aderan Empire." She said, giving you a polite bow. "This is the frontier lands, between the sea and the Empire itself." She says. "To the west is the Empire proper. To the north and west is The Void Sea, across which is home to the Black King." She says, her tone growing dark.

"But surely you already knew this, did you not? Even someone from Ren-Hadal should know of the Black King." She says, confusion creeping back in to her voice.

"No, I don't. I'm not from this 'Ren-Hadal.'" You say, your bitterness making itself known. "Like I said, I don't know how I got here. I'm not even from this world, let alone this content. I'm a stranger here, completely."

Matilda is silent for a time as she absorbs this information. "I'm... very sorry to hear that." She says finally, you can tell she means it. "I know that powerful magic can cross miles and miles in moments, but traveling to whole other worlds is new to me." She says. "For what it's worth, I know of an elderly wizard in a town not far from here, he may be able to help you. I can take you to him after I meet up with another group of knights I was sent to find." She says.

Another group of knights? Does she mean.... oh. Oooooh. Uh-oh. That group of men in armor who had fought those creatures and died. Whoops.

"I uh, might have some news about that." You say. In response to her questioning look, you explain the fight you hid from when you first arrived in this strange new world, describing the scene as best while not being too graphic. "And after I grabbed a weapon and the book, I came back here and turned in for the evening." You finish telling the story, pointing back at the car." You say, finishing up the story of how you got here and what happened to you until you met her.

"Gods above and below, goblins and trolls this far across the sea." Says Matilda, her face pale. "The Black King is sending scouts, just like we feared." She makes a sign across her chest, similar to a priest crossing himself. "We need to hurry back to the village, send a messenger bird to the Empire. They need to know. They need to know right now." She said, grabbing your hand and pulling you away from your car. "Keep the sword and the grimoire, It's not safe here anymore, come on." She says.

What do you do?

>Let her take you to the village

>Make your own way

While doing the above, do you...

>Use your car while you still have gas in it

>Abandon it for now

>Don't use the car. Why draw attention? Why put a sign on your head sayin OFFWORLDER? She's nice but that doesn't mean everyone will be.

I'd sure like to ask about how to get back hoooome if she knows a way.

@JayTee Can you elaborate on make your own way? Would you still be staying with Matilda? Because we definitely need someone who knows this world around.

> GO WITH THE HOT LADY. She's a knight of virtue and all, but she isn't a raging douchebag and probably looks pretty fine and toned under all that armor.

> Take the car. I mean... if it's going to be obvious you're an off-worlder (GUYS LOOK AT OUR CLOTHES) then we might as well make an entrance. Besides, it might make an impression on Matilda and will be more efficient.

> go with the nice holy knight.

> Use the car.   Maybe you can trade it to some poor smuck in the village while it still runs or find an alchemist to create fuel for you. :D

((I'm starting to regret switching to the dark theme.  Can't read a quarter of the text people post in this forum. ))

Your call. Going your own way means letting her go off to do her own thing. A perfectly reasonable choice now that you have a basic lay of the land.
