@Elysion - Magic is very complicated in this world. First off we can branch out with the more common magics.
Healing magic is basic and can be taught to any and all magi. Some choose to learn it while others find it a waste of magical energy and knowledge.
After that, magic branches off and we see different types of magi.
We have Mental Magi and Physical Magi.
Physical Magi cover the ones that can control elemental magic, manipulating physical aspects of the world around them, etc.
Mental Magi control the mind essentially. They can implant illusions/hallucinations in other people; they can manipulate someone's emotions or cut off certain senses, etc.
There is one rare magic in the society and that is Time Magic. Your character, if you so choose, will show signs of having such power. Darius is a Physical Magi with healing capabilities and has little knowledge of Time Magic. He will be trying to help her understand it while also learning himself.
Time Magic has to deal with time travel, manipulating the present (stopping it, reversing it, forwarding it, etc.) It is the strongest form of magic in this world and she will have a very hard time with it if you choose her to have it.
Since she is a beginner, she will require vocally stimulating her brain to recognize the cues. But once she gets the hang of it, she will no longer need to vocalize her intentions. Any kind of spell uses up magical energy, which can only be replenished by a certain potion/poultice. And that's where the society's corruption will come into place.
It is a rare concoction and comes at the heaviest price in this world. Deeds of unspeakable means and large sums of money are the only ways of obtaining it.
As for age, somewhere around 16-18 is the normal age where people realize their true magical potential. This usually comes by some sort of "unexplained event" that happened around her. You can choose for her to be a late bloomer if you wish. Darius will be around the age of twenty-six and was an early bird with magic. He showed signs when he was a toddler.
But yeah, I give a lot of freedom to you, hun. ^^ Make her your own.
Ah! Character sheets would be just basic information with a picture or two of her. You can choose if you would rather photographic pictures or artistic pictures.
