Ineria

Knee High Sock Fanatic

Deception.jpg

This is a one on one roleplay between @Elysion and @Ineria.

Magic is dangerous business. Sure, Hollywood has glorified its many uses and the power you have when you get it. But it never gets it right when it comes to the drawback. Great power comes with great sacrifice.

No one knows this more than Darius Whittaker. He's been around for quite some time now and has worked his way through status and haughty magi to get where he is now. He's part of the Enforcers, a group of magi that protects the higher up magi -Magisters- of the society. Darius did his job pretty well and lived the life like he was supposed to, but he was bored. He had done this for years now and the hype of it all had died down. Perhaps that's why he committed the crime that he did.

This crime got him on probation and there were only a few options for him to regain his status. He would either have to serve time behind bars, community service, or kiss the asses of each and every Council member to vote him back into high standing again.

Community service was the easiest way he could get through this. And luckily for him, there was a new found magi in the midst of the human society. She had finally reached the age that many received their magic. To finish his service, Darius was sentenced to introduce the girl to living like one of them. He was to mentor her in magic and how to control it in order to continue living among the humans. But is he too twisted for her? Was this world too much or too dark for her?

Or maybe the world wasn't ready for her...

xxx Darius hit one more back before finally looking around himself, his eyes landing on a few people who were already far too drunk to make their way home. The bar was a decent enough place to get ready for his mission. The only problem was that human made alcohol did absolutely nothing for him anymore. Quite frankly, it just teased his palette. Why he kept drinking it was beyond him. Perhaps it was just out of habit or the atmosphere or something.

xxx Rising from his seat, the Magic started to leave the establishment. As he made his way to the door, his hand fished around for the phone that rested in his pocket. People and their technology. Regardless, having something like this was pretty useful for recruiting. He'd never vocally admit such a thing, but it was. After he unlocked the screen and searched for the gallery icon on it, he tapped it lightly with his thumb and soon found the picture he had analyzed earlier.

xxx The girl he was going after was a fresh young woman who just started to show... peculiar signs. The humans around her didn't know it, nor did she, but she was a new Magi introduced to the world. She was actually a few months late, but that didn't matter. Everyone was slightly different when their powers began to manifest. And yet... she showed signs of magic in both fields of physical and mental. The Council seemed to want to study her in some way and it was his easiest way of getting back into their good graces without kissing ass. That, he refused to do. He had dignity after all.

xxx She looked to be an innocent sort of thing with her small frame... Well, almost small frame. He couldn't help but notice her hips. A lot of women would hate and long for those curves in this year. And people would pay lots of money and poultices to get a chance to touch them in Underworld. Perhaps she had more to offer than her raw magical power, after all. Perhaps she could be of use to him if he was to mentor her, after all.

xxx This Zera was definitely going to be the complete opposite of his appearance. He wore a waist coat, a nice button up shirt, black trousers, and some dress shoes. He had previous wore a tie, but had taken that off to loosen the collar. Darius never understood as to why he even tried to wear those things. He wasn't very keen on many things around his neck, minus the lips of a woman or two.

xxx It only took a short walk to reach the location that his superior had informed him would be where she would be. It didn't take much convincing to get inside and all he needed to do now, was to find the girl and to somehow convince her to come with him. He hoped -no, prayed- that she wasn't the screaming and fainting type. He didn't do well with those at all.

xxx"Zera?" Darius lightly called for the girl, hoping as to not disturb anyone into noticing him far too much. If she disappeared for an extended period of time, he didn't need the people spreading word of his face and linking it to kidnapping. That would be... atrocious.

There was something about the calm, relaxing atmosphere of a library that just kept bringing Zera back for more. The best thing was that this one stayed open later than other libraries, too, despite it being run by a single family. It wasn't a big library at all. More or less situated in an old, previously run-down building. It had definitely required some renovation, but now it was very welcoming.

Zera's eyes scanned the shelves for hours at a time, sometimes, on her days off. Today, though, she only had about an hour left before the library closed, as it was getting just a bit late. So, with her most recent interest, which was analyzing the minds of serial killers, as many had books written about them, and then cross-referencing their odd behaviors to a variety of psychology books.

She realized that most of the serial killers she'd read about had one thing in common: they all had some sort of traumatic experience. Or at least the experience had been traumatic for them. And while everyone experienced trauma, theirs seemed to seriously affect them in a negative way. For instance, one guy had been beaten by his mother and father, and so he had mirrored this behavior on animals at first, then on humans. His first murder had been accidental, but he found that the sensation of killing someone- taking their life- gave him a sense of control that he'd craved for his entire life.

She was just nearly about to leave when she heard someone call her name out, just barely loud enough for her to hear it. She turned almost immediately to the source, but, being buried deep between shelves of books, she'd have to move in order to go find who'd called her name. It'd been a fleeting word so she didn't know if she even knew the person. So, straightening her long sweater over her tighter leggings, she placed the books that she'd been on her way to check out back on the shelf in the right spot, and then made her way towards the voice that she'd heard.

Upon seeing the person, she was slightly startled. He was handsome, relatively dressed up, whereas she was in one of the most casual things that she owned. "Um.... Can I help you?" She didn't quite know how to address this situation properly. "I don't think I know you." Maybe that seemed a little rude, but oh well. No going back, now.

xxx Darius noticed the many books the girl had been carrying previously. She was the knowledgeable sort, the kind that liked to learn more and keep her brain growing even after "basic" education had been administered to her. Good, he thought instinctively. She's going to need that.

xxx A slight smirk graced his face as he heard her speak for the first time and their eyes finally met. He was right in his prior assumption; she looked quite innocent, especially in person. Perhaps it was her soft features or her casual look or perhaps both, but he had a feeling that she wasn't going to welcome the Underworld quite as easily as he had hoped. Now he merely clung onto his assumption that she liked to further her knowledge. Any thing he could really cling to was necessary since he didn't want to be a mentor for long.

xxx Seeing as they were in a somewhat public place with possible listening ears to eavesdrop on their conversation, he had to think of a way to exclude her from it all. He needed to take her somewhere private, in case she decided to freak out over the more shocking notes of the news he was about to give her. He couldn't be too careful when it came to damaging his image.

xxx "No, my dear, you do not know me. However, I have been sent here to help you." He allowed for the last statement to sink into her pretty little head before slowly approaching her as to not speak too loudly. The first thing he noticed was the long hair that decorated majority of her figure. It encompassed quite a bit of her and was wavy and pure... It would fetch a hefty price on the market if she ever chose to sell it later.

xxx "I am here because of the... incident that happened not too long ago. The one that you are most likely confused about. I was sent by people to enlighten you of exactly what happened. And more importantly, how you can control it." He knew that she knew what he was talking about. Details didn't need to be listed for one to recall their first real sign of magic. Especially if it happened in the open where any magi could see.

xxx He didn't want to kiss ass or act like he was even mildly into helping someone else go through the basics of being who they are. But a job was a job, wasn't it?

xxx Leaning against a nearby bookshelf, Darius smiled at her while adjusting his collar. "But first, how about we discuss this somewhere a little more private." He glanced around, not entirely sure at who might be lurking. "This is a delicate matter, after all. We wouldn't want the family here to think us insane or drugatics, yes?" Stories of crazy people were common through the social media nowadays. And many of them happened to be learning magis, while others... tend to lean more towards substance abuse.

xxx He wanted to avoid any of that kind of trouble if possible.

Zera's thick brows furrowed at this man as he approached her and spoke to her in a tone of voice that was much more hushed than before. She didn't view him as a threat to be quite honest. And, hell, even if he did decide to go a bit nutso, she had a switchblade in her bag, and a can of pepper spray. She knew that she looked good to men, and also looked innocent. She looked like the type that wouldn't fight back if she was ever attacked, but that assumption couldn't be farther from the truth. She'd taken several self defense classes a few years ago, and though that was quite a long time ago, she kept it in her mind, fresh as flowers.

She cleared her throat after listening to him speak, his word about "helping" her hitting a particularly odd note in her mind. She did remember, a long time ago, of accidentally setting something on fire without any matches. She'd just thought it an odd act of static electricity. After all, there had been gas station fires due to the static sparks of drivers getting out of their cloth car seats. She blinked her long lashes at him, not trying to be seductive, but more or less just evaluating what he'd just said.

He could've been lying to her for all she knew, just wanting to get her alone to knock her out and then sell her to some creepy old men that were the types that bought used underwear online. But despite the dangers, that age-old curiosity seemed to draw her in to this mysterious situation. Her life was monotonous and even if this man turned out to be some loon, which was entirely likely, it would make a good story to tell her coworkers.

"Okay, maybe we could head to a little coffee shop I know. It's open twenty-four hours, but nobody ever comes to it this late," she said to him. The coffee shop would be monitored just well enough for her to not be kidnapped. Also, it was just across the street from the library, which made it easy to get to. "Does that sound reasonable to you?" She tucked some of her long hair behind one ear and raised her brows interrogatively, waiting for his answer.
