So quick question Purity Purity , is the speed/reflex enhancing cyberware rule only for what a character begins with, or are things like a sandevistan or kerenzikov just off the table completely?

So my character is a daughter of a mid-to-high-tier corpo, so she´s gonna be loaded with stuff, but the vast majority of it is just "quality of life" things rather than "gives me a +5 to tear heads off" kind of deal. She´s got a fairly cushy life, with all her needs meet and then some, but she works as a courier/fixer in Night City because she is looking to fill an emotional void, and she does so while disguised. Since this means she´s got a lot of stuff, I wanted to get some opinions/criticism/GM-foot-down on them so I know if this is Ok to go with in terms of what they are, what they do, and also how I´ve described them (corpo ads and propaganda may not give you the most accurate impression of what their products can do, after all).

Don´t be afraid to tell me if something is unacceptable, or even if the character as a whole just doesn´t fit. I may be able to rework her or just go for something else.

Cyberware:

OS - RedCape: One of several standard OS packages offered to Militech execs and their families, RedCape includes every function one may need in their daily lives. Standard Net connectivity and browser, cyberware control, anti-hacking and anti-virus updates and a host of other basic functions which can be augmented by buying any package from the wide variety offered by Militech and its subsidiary companies. Voted best OS of 2078 and 2079! (By Militech employees)

Optical - VistaClara 79: Another Militech product, fairly widely spread among employees, VistaClara eyes offer all the standard functions you want from something you would put in your head: up to 3x Zoom, friend highlighting (facial identification of your loved ones at up to 100m!), money transfer to identified entities and individuals, protection from water and (non-corrosive) gas, and cool light-up effects when accessing the Net. Not only do these eyes interface well with Militech OSs, they also offer a considerable degree of customization options such as themes and colors for your browsing. The 2079 edition adds a revolutionary ReachOutTouch feature, allowing the user to operate compatible systems remotely within a 10m range. Want to walk into a conference room without breaking your imposing stride? Want to open and close your fridge to select a drink for your dinner without taking your hands off your cooking? VistaClara 79 can be yours for a 8% discount if you work for Militech! (WARNING: ReachOutTouch will interface with systems only if they are unencrypted or the user has been granted access privileges. Militech is not responsible for any adverse effects due to the user accessing systems without appropriate authorization. Modifying, hacking or tampering with the safety lock-out feature will render this product´s warranty void.)

Hands - HandShake Mk4: HandShake is now more stable and controllable than ever! Militech has ironed out (nearly) all the bugs that plagued previous versions so your fingers and wrists now are nimbler and stronger than ever! HandShake makes driving vehicles comfortable and easy, warns you of sudden dangers like hot objects or electric currents, lets you activate all sorts of Smart Home systems without actually touching them, interfaces well with a wide number of aesthetic and safety devices like gloves and gauntlets, and can even be upgraded to allow peer-to-peer file-sharing between users. Make your HandShake more meaningful than ever before!

Legs/Feet - PantherAmerica Enhanced: For the lady on the move. Whether you are an athlete or an executive, whether you want grace or performance, Militech sells exactly the cyber-legs you need. PantherAmerica are a simple idea with an elegant execution: a resilient metallic core with flexible and strong synthetic muscles, covered in soft, synthetic skin, connected directly to your nervous system and monitored automatically by any of our post-2070s OSs. But that is not all: these legs can be customized not just to fit your body (the common standard), but your purpose. Ask any of our long list of users: from the most captivating actresses to the most determined sports stars, PantherAmerica has walked, run or sprinted them to their goals and beyond. They interface without issue with any of our other body augmentations, and the Enhanced edition has only added more speed, control and stability to the lives of our satisfied customers. Not only that, but the foot units included have been designed to connect to all sports equipment out there! Doesn´t matter whether you walk, ski, skate or ride on it: PantherAmerica will take you wherever you want, any way you want.

I may add bioware in the form of lungs for added stamina for sports and similarly extraneous activities (like skating down a street with bullets chasing), but that´s it for cyberware.

In terms of equipment, I´m putting in clothes meant to act as a disguise (bodysuit and parka with color-changing functionality), including a helmet and over-sized gauntlets and rollerblading boots (the gauntlets and boots are not designed as weapons to tear people´s faces off, same with the motorized rollerblades/skateboard, but you still don´t want something that big and covered in metal hitting you in the face anyway, specially in the case of the motorized rollerblades...).

The ONE actual weapon on my character will probably be a standard Militech Lexington.

No speedware, muscle weaves, or linear frames, eh? Darn, guess I'll be reworking Diego from the "mobile MG platform"

Hmmmm. Re-reading the rules, I suspect the versatility of the cyberware I went for may be an issue... will see what Purity says.

Yeah, I’m watching for the answer to your list. I’ve got a few items in mind myself, and I need to see what needs to move from the starting list to the wish list.

Either way, I definitely know I'll be taking a vehicle as the special, just in case the Crew needs a CombatCab

Alrighty, this is what I have so far in terms of planning and loadout.

Basic Overview

Former Arasaka operative belonging to a specialised project designated as Horseman. The project was created as a way to determine optimal efficiency in the field through various different tests, simulations and practical assignments. Candidates were chosen prior to the projects green light, benefits and opportunities offered as an incenctive to join. At the end of the practical testing phase the candidates were sent on a final assignment, unbeknownst to them expected to end with a 100% fatality result. A stroke of luck unexpectedly forced a different result and since then the surviving candidates have ghosted.

Note: This is mostly a loose idea, I have a lot more in depth information about the above although there's every chance I might go another way entirely.

Cyberware

Frontal Cortex - None
Ocular System - Kiroshi MK.2
Circulatory System - None
Immune System - None
Nervous System - None
Integumentary System - Optical Camo (Special Selection: Would need to discuss the limits of use though.)
Operating System - Arasaka MK.3 Cyberdeck (Makes the most sense being a former employee)
Skeleton - None
Hands - Ballistic Coprocessor (Mainly for the convenience of knowing how many shots you have left)
Arms - None
Legs - Lynx Paws (Moving and running more quietly.)

Weapons

Arasaka Shigure - Submachine Gun for when things get louder.
Arasaka JKE X2 Kenshin - Pistol for more precise play.
Katana & Sheath case - For silent melee. (Most from the game are Iconic / rares so would probably need to talk about this too.)

That's about where I'm up to for now!

Can you point me to where you saw the rules for linear frames and muscle weaves? I must be blind, because I cannot for the life of me find anything outside of the speedware/reflex restrictions.

Pre-coffee dyslexia got the better of me. It seems like strength/body boosting is fine

Cool deal. It looks like I’m still on track with my guy, although I may have to ditch the shield in favor of the armor, since the armor is gonna need to be pretty unique to soak up any big hits.

Basic rough draft of Diego's loadout
Diego ‘Cazador’ Murrieta is an archetypal heavy-hitter. Starting off his edge running career as a trunk monkey for the Aldecaldos at a young age, he developed an affinity for heavy weapons and the the smell of CHOOH2. As an adult, he’s manifested his training into toting around a HMG (like the Midnight Arms MA70) with a Crusher or super-heavy pistol as a backup. He rocks an internal linear frame and muscle weave, making him a preem door-kicker and mover of heavy things.
Chromed-out ass-kickery aside, Diego is fiercely loyal to his nomad family, be they blood or patched in, and can easily be pushed around by his little sister and his abuela. When he’s not running a mercwork gig, he’s quite the cinnamon roll.
Cyberware
I'm running with the expectation that re the 2077 standard, unless someone is a neo-luddite, everyone has in interface link and biomonitor

Frontal Cortex - n/a
Optical - Raven Microcybernetics Munin Mk.III > Anti-dazzle, combat optics
Circulatory System - n/a
Immune System - n/a
Nervous System - Pain Editor
Integumentary System - n/a
Operating System - n/a
Skeleton - Implanted Linear Frame Beta (with GM permissions regarding body-boosting cyberware)
Hands - Big-Knucks (L/R), Smartlink (R)
Arms - Erebus Cybernetics Cyberarm (L), grenade launcher
Legs - None

Weapons
Stobolvoy ST-5 Assault Rifle
- a bit of an antique by modern standards, but the NeoSov 2020 workhorse of a rifle is as resilient and reliable as they come.
Colt AMT M-2000 - Another golden oldie, though still a common enough sidearm, being widespread during the SouthAm and Corpo War conflicts in the early 2020s.
Midnight Arms MA70 - Mostly kept in his truck, used only on full-tilt operations or for mounting on his truck for some real high-octane run-n-gunning.
Tomahawk - For when big-knucks don't cut it

Special: 2049 Thornton Mackinaw; “Tatanka”; with custom suspension and a performance-tuned engine, this chooh2-chugging monster is hell-on-wheels. Outfitted with a combat plow on the grill and a heavy chassis with heavy weapon mounts for the discerning road-warrior. Capable of seating the driver, passenger, and 3 additional passengers in the cab. If the bed isn’t loaded with gear or goods, the truck bed can easily seat another 4.

Well, I know who I'll be standing behind for cover.

Wow, that's a lot to cover. Alright, where to start…

First, I've made some changes to the rules regarding starting stats. Just so anyone already planning isn't caught off-guard.

Midrick Midrick
Sandevistan and Kerenzikov will be available later, but much later when your character has the stats.

Saavedra Saavedra
She seems to have securityware that makes sense with someone of her standing. None of it seems too over the top, more of just modern conveniences for the elite.

StormWolf StormWolf
Muscle weave is totally acceptable. Linear frames, I have to admit, I did not consider initially, but it should be fine as long as it's not too high-end. Also, bit out of order, but your character looks good. He's just a tad bit decked out, I would prefer if you dialed it back a bit, maybe lose the grenade launcher or something.

Jealousy Jealousy
What exactly was Horseman testing…? Also, why was it supposed to have a 100% fatality rate and how on earth did the survivors escape? This is missing a lot of context. If you'd like a hidden backstory similar to this I can give you one, but otherwise I'll probably have to see the character sheet to actually understand what's going on. Your cyberware is fine however.

Currently not at home, apologies if I missed anyone.

Thank God, my hopes and dreams were about to go the way of Rebecca regarding speedware.

Thank God, my hopes and dreams were about to go the way of Rebecca regarding speedware, also I think you might've mixed me up with someone else, I haven't posted any rough cuts of characters yet lol.

What do you mean? I didn't mix up anything. :P

Yeah, my bad, it should be all sorted now. Anyway, don't get your hopes and dreams up too much, it's still going to take a while.

That's fine, my char will just be the last to go cyberpsycho xD

Oh it was just a brief bit of information. The sheet I'll send you will have all the details presented in full for your consideration, including the aforementioned questions answered.

With Capacity instead of Empathy/Humanity, it'll be easier to keep your marbles (in theory)

Also, therapy is a thing in Night City, for addiction to stims as well as chrome. It's not cheap, but its there. That's how Morgan Blackhand and Dillon Murphy managed to live long and fruitful careers, the latter being able to retire, get married, and have a gaggle of kids.
