Fantasy Cursed Island

Emil was doing what he could to help, but with his severely limited medical knowledge, that was mostly just moving things and handing her what she needed.

"You come up with anything, Niudisa?", Adran called, looking down at where the fairy was.

"I think so. I believe if I can properly mix this blood with a healing potion, and maybe some other reagents, I might be able to make a regeneration potion. And I might also be able to make a potion for mana regen as well. And I also went ahead and made a purified blood solution in case Shuffle wants to try for some transformation from it. The tarrasque blood didn't do anything notable though, so maybe she hit a limit."

"Have you learned anything of what allows a hydra to grow so large?", Joanne asked, reminding the fairy that they needed a way to manipulate the size of the ballista in order to take it with them, or else build a new cart and produce another beast to pull it.

"I'm still working on that part." Niudisa gestured to a couple of empty bottles. "Could someone fill those back up? I don't want to risk running out of blood before I've got something."

Adran whistled and popped an imp out of the stamp on his book, pointing to the bottles and then the hydra, barking something in infernal to the thing. It said something back, so Adran raised his hand like he was going to backhand the tiny demon into another century. The little fiend whimpered and did as instructed, hopping down to take the bottles, making faces all the while, and going to fill them from the oozing wounds on the hydra's corpse. "Damn imps," Adran muttered.

"Another reason why I prefer corpses." Niudisa shook her head as she worked. "They don't talk back."

"Imps can't be taken from you by a stronger caster, though," Adran replied as the imp deposited the bottles of blood in front of Niudisa, proudly flipped everyone off, and then vanished back into the Hells. "He's more scared of what I'll do to him if he betrays me than he is of death. Demons are like that."

"If I encounter a stronger caster, then the corpse is not what I need to worry about. I know how to break them to the point that they're useless, and it's quite easy for me."

"The same for demons," Adran shook his head, "But demons have the ability to be creative and think independently, I don't have to manage each and every body under my control."

"Mm, fair enough. I think I prefer to be in control. Blind loyalty is more important to me than intelligence, when it comes to servants."

"To each their own," Adran shrugged.

"While you are discussing your blasphemy," Joanne interjected, "I must remind you-"

"It's been two minutes since you asked, no, progress has not been made, sit down or find something productive to do."

Fia spoke up as she touched down nearby, looking at Joanne. “Asta’s patrolling on his own. Maybe you could help him out?”

"I'll stay and work on bolts," Emfa agreed, "Go calm down the cat." Joanne took a deep breath, probably reminding herself that she had other priorities that superseded her need to quash unnatural evils at current. She picked up her sword and shield and leffed the hedge to go find the chimera.

"Now she's gone, who wants to party?", Adran said in an attempt at a joke. Poorly timed, but he tried.

There was an awkward pause before Erina spoke up. “Perhaps leave the comic relief to Shuffle.”

Emil glanced over. “Unless you think you can get better. I always encourage trying new talents in case you turn out to have a knack for it.”

Adran shook his head, "My thing's demons, you got any stories? Veo looks like she's about to have a panic attack again."

"I'm not panicking, you're panicking!" Veo was panicking again, apparently she found something new to freak out about in the last few minutes.

--------------------
"Asta!", Joanne called, pulling her sword out of a saurian.

Emil let out a breath as he sat down and got his lute. "I'll do what I can." He started strumming on his lute, thinking up a tale to tell.

----------

Asta wasn't too far off, similarly finishing off a saurian that he had clenched in his teeth by shaking it around before he tossed it away.

Adran gave a thumbs up and returned to looking around for anything vaguely threatening heading their way. Occasionally something would come by, which Adran or Shuffle, both if the creature was unluckly, would quickly turn into a pin cushion.

------------------------
Joanne hefted her shield onto her back and headed over to the chimera. "Fia wanted me to make sure you were alright."

Shuffle was still getting the hang of magic arrows, so after the first two backfired and the third flew the wrong way, she decided to use normal arrows for the time being.

—————

Asta glanced over at Joanne. “I’m fine.” He spoke through clenched teeth, which didn’t support his claim of being fine.

"Clearly not," Joanne shook her head. "Asta, I realize your position, I have been sitting in it since Niudisa's appearance. Remaining enraged will accomplish nothing."

“I don’t intend to remain enraged. I’m expressing my rage to get rid of it. Better than sitting around looking at what happened to Jerry...”

Joanne closed her eyes, trying to figure that one out. "Your rage is a weapon, as it is with Beri. Do not get rid of it, control it."

“Control it? How would I do that? It seems like it takes all I have to avoid going into a frenzy.”
