This will be a roleplay featuring Hotch and Reid along with a few original characters. A serial killer is on the loose with a frightening MO. The killer is partial to black widow spiders and uses them to inflict bite wounds on the victims until the victims body goes limp and out of life. The team will have their work cut out for them since how can they trace the murders back to this elusive person?

Judy Collins was peacefully asleep in her bed. A judge of the supreme court had a reputation of being relentless in her sentencing on hardened offenders. As she lie sleeping, a perpetrator would enter into the house through a kitchen window. Donned in a painters onesie in dark black, gloves and vials of black widows in his pocket.

Once at the doorway of the bedroom he would lightly close the door. The once silent bliss for anyone who sleeps shattered as screams would echo through the hall until stifled by the suspect who rendered her immobilized. As the spiders were released on her form the struggling motions of the victim would coax the spiders to bite as a form of a defense mechanism. Judy convulsed as the poison took hold devouring her immune system causing her body's system to shut down.

The killer would be sure to take up the spiders and place them back in the vial, his gloves too thick for the spiders to land a bite. He would leave the upper body face down on the bed with her legs left dangling off the side of the bed feet touching the floor. He wanted it to look suspicious. He thrives on this adrenaline rush.

And just like that he left the house just as conspicuous as he came leaving crickets to chirp whispers into the night.

New York in Brooklyn, Hotch was having a cup of joe at a bistro. Going over some folders that had various victim names and their details pertaining to their occupations really caught Hotch's eyes. Each victim held a position of high power. Lawyers, judges, FBI families, mayors and many things government related.

Hotch would massage his chin down, disgusted at the details. A theory so far fetched sounded like a tale straight from the twilight zone. An offender using nature to murder relentlessly. As far as the FBI could deduce, this had been going on for at least ten years. And that could be longer before the suspect drew attention to himself. Plus how do you separate accidental bites from black widows that happened organically and was an unfortunate death from murderous intent from a killer who induced the death of an innocent. Hotch would have to get a team together to get fresh pair of eyes and minds.

Hotch remembered a private investigator who gave him a series of newspaper articles that chronicle deaths by insect bites that could possibly be related. It was her that brought it back into the light with victims from various states. Which meant this perpetrator was never in one place long.

Hotch thought of Reid instantly, he was the genius who could give his wisdom on how these insects work and how many bites it took to inflict death. The bodies in his portfolio indicated bruising and a victims struggle.

This was the beginning of a hellish nightmare that rarely left a trace.

The case that had been presented was definitely different in nature, it had taken the lanky doctor nearly half an hour before his Irish counterpart had insisted that he stop reciting spider facts. He had seen the features of Niamh Sullivan visibly pale at the mention of arachnids a few times throughout the course of their conversation. The two of them were supposed to be meeting their superior at a coffee shop before heading over to the latest crime scene. Naturally, due to his keen observation and rather extensive knowledge, Reid had been a vital member to be recruited for this case. Niamh having proven her talents to the BAU team and knowing New York well had been another keen addition to this particular case that was presented to them. Although all he knew was that Hotch had been tipped off by an investigator and then they had been invited in by the local police with some convincing.

“Can we please not speak about the spiders?” the petite redhead had retorted with a frown. Pulling up to the bistro it was a struggle to find parking for the SUV, but she was glad to be out of the vehicle when it came to reciting facts about the most hated creature within the fabric of her existence. Thankfully, Niamh was able to rid herself of the images as they entered the establishment and noted Hotch already pouring over what they could assume to be details of the case, moving to grab their own coffee order she made her way over and took a chair. “The NYPD are expecting us at the latest crime scene,” she informed the dark-haired man before her easily. “Have we narrowed down the list of all potential victims?” she inquired lightly and then frowned unable to keep her features impassive as she recalled the methodology. “The unsub does have a unique signature after all, so there must be some easy ties,” even if she did not want to think of them in the slightest anytime soon.

Spencer had taken a seat next to Niamh and Hotch as he thanked Niamh for his syrupy coffee mixture. “I was telling Niamh that it is actually quite rare for a death to occur from a black widow bite, last year alone there was a reported eighteen hundred bites, eight hundred of them sought medical treatment, and only fourteen were considered serious,” he stated and then took a sip of his coffee. “So in order for this spider to be deadly, there would be to be hundreds of bites. Also, these spiders are not known for their aggression so they would have to be antagonized.”

Meanwhile, Niamh listened as Reid seemed to insert the arachnid facts to Hotch. “Is there a role in this case that has less spider interaction?” she stated dryly and sipped her coffee, truly the things inspired a shudder and nothing more. They had yet to meet the private investigator but there was a large part of her that hoped they would be able to solve this case swiftly and that they would do so without ever having to be exposed to the eight-legged fiends. Really, they were the things of her nightmares and she suddenly wished that she had swapped places with Morgan for this particular case.

While awaiting for his unit to arrive Hotch inquisitively gazed at the photographs. The pattern of marks on the skin had brought with it the working theory that the unsub physically restrained his victims or it was plausible that he could have used some cloroform to render his target unconscious.

Hotch took a swig of his coffee and would make a quick call to Garcia who would be awaiting the meeting via phone since she was by her computer ready to research.

"I need you to check if black widows are native to New York." Hotch wasn't fully convinced they were.

"There's been a reporting of a couple sightings but nothing definitive. The black widow is primarily where warm climates are, like the southern states." Garcia would continue computer surfing.

"If that be the case then the unsub would collect them elsewhere." Hotch would notice Reid and Niamh finally arrive.

"I think that's an accurate deduction. I'll contact a forensic entomologist and see what I can glean from there. I'll be in touch." Garcia hung up the phone. He'd return his attention to Reid who gave him the statistic findings and proved to be quite the asset.

"We know our unsub is particular in the way he picks his victims. This could be a disgruntled male. Anti-social. Self important. Admonishes politics. Considering he is focusing on government officials, this is his displeasure with the system. I even read a family member of an FBI agent was a victim two years ago..." Hotch took out that specific folder and opened the grizzly scene of Porter Lancaster body.

"The pattern is exactly the same." Hotch bridled at the thought.

"Thank you Reid for the statistics. It sounds like the unsub tortures his victims with the spiders venom until rendered deceased. That would take some serious dedication from the suspect to provoke spiders to place bites. Considering the number of victims to date is 24, that's only the ones we know about. He's only perfecting his craft." Hotch would finish his cup of Joe.

Hotch heard Niamh's malcontent with dealing in spiders. "They're good for our environment and keep other bug species from over populating." He would grin a bit as her disgust. "I believe Bianca will meet us at the crime scene. We got our work cut out for us on this one. "

Stepping into the quaint bistro it was easy to settle into the relaxed atmosphere. The dainty redhead had allowed herself to slip into her usual role conversing with her superior and lanky colleague with ease. It was true that the victim pool was definitely high profile and there was going to be a fair amount of pressure associated with the case when the links were firmly made. Alas, she was grateful that she was not subjected to the politics of these situations. Although her heart went out to JJ and Hotch who were on the frontline of such obstacles. At the mention of a family member of an FBI agent, a frown touched her full lips. “Not the agent themselves?” she inquired and felt her copper locks cascading down her back as she considered the situation and took a sip of her coffee. “That sounds personal, almost as if the unsub wanted to cause this agent pain over the loss, something that could be considered worse than death,” she admitted and peered towards the file. There seemed to be no certainty to these particular cases at the moment.

While they had arrived within ample time thanks to Niamh knowing how to drive through the chaotic New York City, Reid had allowed himself to inform Hotch of what he knew when it came to the spiders that were being weaponized by the unsub. He nodded in response to the thanks. “It also seems like the unsub is careful to take all of the spiders, even though it would be likely for the victim to kill some of them during the initial struggle. Black widows normally reside in more of a desert environment, so the unsub is likely breeding them,” he pondered on the implications of that. “We could contact pet supply stores to see if they have sold anything needed for spider breeding in bulk, narrow it down to that particular breed and the particular environment that they would need,” he suggested quite openly.

At the mention of spiders being good for the environment, Niamh could not help but smirk slightly in response to Hotch and mirth danced in her emerald eyes. “Well, they can stay in an environment far from me,” she quipped with humour laced in her tone. Where Aaron was often considered an intimidating force she had always found it quite easy to get along with the man and his at times stoic demeanour.

Reid could not help but smile slightly at the comments of the two. He rather enjoyed working with both Niamh and Hotch, their team was a close one and almost felt like a family something that was readily applicable due to the amount of time that they spent with one another. “Were we heading to meet the private investigator right away?” he inquired he had done his research on the woman and she was very well respected within the community.
