In a word, abrasive. Theo runs hot, often drawing attention to himself when he enters a room, he is not afraid to show others that he is, in fact, a genuine threat and sometimes goes out of his way to start a fight. His anger drives him, and he carries with him a resentment for any and all things self righteous. While his cool exterior and relatively devil may care attitude may persuade some to believe otherwise, Theo is incredibly closed off and guarded when it comes to the more personal aspects of his life. Most of his relationships, whether romantic or plutonic, are incredibly superficial. His loyalty runs deep, though it is not granted to anyone at the moment besides his younger sister. If you're on his side, he'll tolerate you, but if you're not on his side you should hope you don't catch his attention. While he strives to exude control over all things in his life, he fails miserably when it comes to throttling his anger. Underneath his facade, Theo is actually very perceptive and even feels great empathy for those who are worse off than himself, but he would never let anyone see that lest risk being called weak. Despite all of this, socializing comes fairly easy to him. He is charismatic and charming when he wants to be, which is likely why he's had so much "success" in the field of women so far, though he would never voluntarily allow himself to develop any genuine feelings.

  The Crimson Grimoire is an ancient, leather-bound book that appears unremarkable at first glance. Its cover is dark and worn with age, bound by a thick iron clasp with no discernible keyhole. The pages are yellowed and brittle, but the writing inside shifts and changes. The language written in the book is indecipherable to most, and the text can only be fully revealed when touched by someone of the Arkwright bloodline—or by blood sacrifice.
  
  Inside, when in its book form the Grimoire is filled with strange, shifting runes and illustrations of supernatural creatures. It seems to have a consciousness of its own, rearranging information based on the user’s thoughts and desires. The book gives the impression of something alive, whispering softly to its user, almost beckoning to be opened.
  
  The Grimoire can change appearance to protect itself OR to trick a supernatural being into touching it so that Rhys can gain access to their powers for a limited amount of time.
  
  Origin:
  The Crimson Grimoire was created centuries ago by a cabal of ancient sorcerers who sought to catalogue the essence and powers of supernatural beings. The book doesn’t merely contain written knowledge—it is imbued with the power of the creatures it records. The sorcerers who created it used forbidden rituals to bind the blood, bones, and souls of supernatural creatures into its pages. As a result, the Grimoire is semi-sentient, constantly hungering for more blood and power to expand its knowledge.
  
  The Grimoire's part in his survival:
  On the night of the attack that killed his family, young Rhys, hiding in his father’s study, unknowingly activated the Grimoire by bleeding onto its pages. The book responded to his desperation and fear, unlocking one of its rituals. It fed on his blood and the surrounding magic, using the power trapped within its pages to shield Rhys from the witches’ attack. A powerful blood-ward erupted from the Grimoire, saving him by creating a barrier that prevented the witches from killing him.
  
  After the attack, Rhys realized the Grimoire was no ordinary book. It had protected him, but he could sense that it wanted something more in return.

However, unlike her devout parents, Helena was a free spirit, captivated by the natural world and fascinated by folklore. She found herself more entranced by the stars than scripture, drawing the attention of gossip and suspicion from the townsfolk.
  
  At 23, a mysterious illness swept through the village, claiming many lives, including Helena's parents. The townspeople, desperate for answers, sought someone to blame. They whispered about Helena's eccentricities—her solitary forest wanderings and her friendship with Circe, a local healer living on the outskirts, who was rumored to be a witch.
  
  When a child fell gravely ill, panic erupted, and the villagers accused Helena of witchcraft, claiming she had cursed them. Despite her protests, she was dragged before the town council. Circe, fearing for Helena's life, stepped forward, revealing her own true nature as a witch. She implored the council to spare Helena, confessing that the illness stemmed from a spell gone awry. But the townspeople, gripped by fear, condemned both women to death.
  
  
  
  On the night of their execution, Circe unleashed her final spell, casting a powerful curse. Rather than saving them, her magic bound Helena to the shadows, dooming her to an eternal life consumed by darkness. In the aftermath, Circe did not survive.
  
  Helena awoke the next night, buried in a shallow grave by the sea, transformed and hollow. She clawed her way to freedom, driven by an insatiable hunger for blood. Horrified by her new existence, she fled into the forest, leaving the village behind. For centuries, she roamed the earth, immortal yet cursed.
  
  
  
  When she returned fifty years later, the village had remained unchanged, though attitudes had shifted, especially regarding the execution of alleged witches. To her surprise, she discovered Circe's surviving relatives living peacefully there. Over the years, Helena forged connections with them, witnessing their lives from the shadows—attending birthdays, weddings, and funerals.
  
  Though she never lingered too long, she cherished these moments, feeling a semblance of humanity in their presence. While Circe's choice had altered Helena's fate, she remained grateful to Circe's family for allowing her to touch the essence of life throughout her long existence.

  Helena was cursed with the Blood Curse. While it successfully saved her life, stopping her heart before others could do so, it came with an array of other symptoms that she would later learn came with Vampirism and another handful of peculiar ones that were abnormal for regular vampires.

  - Insatiable hunger for human blood. (what makes it abnormal...it's never satisfied even when she's polished off 6 or 7 people)
  - fangs (which appeared uncontrollably at first but now only appear when she's excitable, hungry or angry)
  - Aversion to garlic, crosses, and holy water. (severely wounds her)
  - Lack of reflection in mirrors, film, photographs.
  - Lack of shadow.
  - Unable to go in sunlight (fixed with a charmed necklace that she always wears)
  - doesn't sleep.

  Abnormal Vampire Traits:
  - Enhanced Emotions - intense feelings of love, joy, or extreme loneliness.
  - Unable to produce venom: because she was created and not turned, she did not drink the blood of another Vampire...therefore she does not have venom and is unable to turn anyone else.
  - unable to heal as quickly as others.
  - unable to be killed by traditional means -- werewolf bite, wooden stake, garlic, crosses, holy water. Though, it can severely wound her.

  • His dyslexia has sharpened his listening skills and memory recall, as he had to compensate for struggling to read - he is therefore brilliant at retaining and recalling information.
  • His dysgraphia has enhanced his verbal expression, as he grew to compensate for his difficulty in expressing himself through written word.
  • Due to his dyslexia, when Leon reads he often has to rotate letters in his mind until they form the correct word. Through this, he developed the skill of 3D thinking, meaning he is able to visualise things from many angles in his mind. This skill contributes significantly to his telekinesis, as he is able to manipulate elements in the third dimension using only his mind.

  • Undiagnosed dyslexia and dysgraphia, which he is very insecure about. Reading is challenging and tiring for him, as the letters in words appear muddled or disoriented and he can't always grasp the phonetic composition of words. Writing is difficult, too, as he struggles with spelling and often misses out letters or whole words as he writes, as well as muddling upper and lower case letters. His teachers were often frustrated with him, calling him slow and marking his grades down. His classmates would tease him about it and call him names. Because of this he is now very insecure about reading aloud and also about people seeing his handwriting.
  • Physically fit - in the spring and summer, he swims in the lake every morning.

  Personality:
  
  • Outdoorsy: The outdoors brings Leon peace like nothing else. When he's in nature, whether it be sailing on the lake, swimming in the gorge, or hiking in the woods, Leon never feels more at peace. After Lydia's near-death experience whilst ice skating on the lake when they were children, many would have sworn off ever going near it again - Leon, on the other hand, went in the opposite direction. His idea is that the more he understands the rules of nature, the more equipped he will be to face its challenges.
  • Insecure: The lack of support he received at school for his undiagnosed learning difficulties meant that he has spent most of his life being ashamed of his differences, struggling to believe in himself and believing that he is stupid. It took him an extra year to graduate high school, and even then he only just made it. The truth is, he is very intelligent, he just cannot express his knowledge by written hand, nor can he read without significant effort, which meant that exams were near impossible, especially with no accommodations put in place for him. At school, he held a particular fascination for the sciences, and loved physics the most - his interest grew from a desire to figure out the mechanics of his superhuman abilities - but his dreams of studying particle physics at university were dashed when he failed to get even an average grade. He has accepted that further education isn't in the cards for him, but on the inside he can't help but be jealous of Lydia for the scholarship she managed to get.

  Elemental telekinesis:
  
  Leon is able to manipulate the classical elements (fire, water, earth and air) using his mind. This means he does not have to physically touch them, however sometimes it helps him to draw power from the elements, eg. placing his hands or bare feet in the water or on the earth, in order to better control them. He sometimes finds that using a hand to direct the element can help with accuracy.
  
  Limitations:
  
  • Like any of his powers, telekinesis uses a lot of energy. Weakness of any kind - even fatigue or hunger - may affect the efficacy or reliability of his power
  • Linked to emotions. Strengthened by passionate feelings such as anger or love; weakened by sadness or fear. Strong emotions make this power harder to control and elements harder to manipulate. Easiest to control while in a state of calm
  • Cannot create energy or matter, can only manipulate what already exists
  • Currently, Leon can only manipulate elements he can see or touch, though this may be developed by borrowing power from his clairvoyant sense to manipulate elements he cannot reach eg. inside an object, building, or body. This would however use double the energy
  • If out of control, can have devastating effects: fires may spread; earth may uproot trees or damage houses; water can form whirlpools, dangerous currents or jet streams; air can form whirlwinds or storms. The weather can also respond to him if he does not maintain control, resulting in rain, storms, blizzards
  • The easiest element to manipulate for him is water, as this was his trigger element so he has the strongest connection with it. Earth is by far the most difficult and exertive of the four, due to its weight
  
  Clairvoyance:
  
  Leon has the ability to locate people using only his mind.
  
  Limitations:
  
  • Must have met the person before. Simply having seen them won't be enough - a connection must first have been established
  • The subject must be alive or undead. If subject is dead, he simply won't be able to find them
  • Requires white noise to focus his mind, and no distractions
  • Uses the least amount of energy of all his powers, however it does cause headaches. Best not to observe the subject for too long once found
  • Cannot communicate with the subject, can only observe them
  • Not necessary, but may help to speed up the process if he is touching an object that belongs (or once belonged) to the subject, or touching a living blood relative of theirs
  
  Self-transmutation:
  
  Leon has the ability to transmutate into other beings.
  
  Limitations:
  
  • The subject must be alive or undead. If the subject is dead or decayed, consequences may be grave (pun not intended)
  • He will always remain human and retain his own supernatural abilities even while taking someone else's form
  • The subject must be of human form - can be supernatural eg. werewolf or vampire, but would not be able to mimic their supernatural forms, traits or abilities
  • Acquires skills through muscle memory, but does not acquire magical abilities
  • Uses up a lot of energy - usually remedied by eating and sleeping extra, but still a power best used only in moderation
  • Can temporarily escape mild illness or injury by transmutating into a healthier body, but the worse his illness/injury, the less effective the illusion, the less time he will be able to hold it for and the higher the toll it will take on his health.
