Before she could answer Crow, her head turned to Tim, hearing him call for them to get going. Finally. She was getting tired of walking around—though the conversation she was having with Crow was a nice distraction. Looking back at her, she flashed a small smile before walking back to the others.
“That’s a good question,” she shrugged again, kicking a rock to the side, “If I’m bein’ honest, I’m… not so sure. I mean, I listen to what He says and do what He instructs, but I don’t really have a, uh, a thing, y’know?”
Vera didn’t seem the proxy type. Nor was she as…eccentric…as some of the others. But she had to be there for some reason, right? Maybe He just needed some extra hands. Someone who still looked like they had their humanity left, which was pretty hard to come by.
“But hey, I’m not one to complain. It’s better than runnin’ from the cops,” she added with a soft laugh, getting into the car. Was that a…joke?
As soon as Brian got into the car, he shut the door with a soft sigh. Just an hour or two left until they get to town and then they can finally get the ball rolling. He looked out to the side mirror, seeing and hearing the others slowly getting their asses inside. With a yawn, he got himself comfortable for the ride, buckling himself in before leaning back into the leather seat. If there were any other arguments in the back, he’d let them handle it. Hell, he might as well let Toby take the reins if he was in charge of scouting later. The thought made him chuckle, another yawn leaving him.
Toby knew he’d hate getting back in, already seeing Jeff create problems for the rest of them. And when he saw Jeff’s feet on the back of his seat, he knew he just had to deal with it. So without another word, he sat in the same seat, scooting a bit towards the edge of his seat just so he wouldn’t be in close contact with Jeff. He was already planning on making the man survey the complete opposite side of the town he’d be in, not taking the risk of having Jeff in proximity of him throughout the night. The idea made him cringe, already thinking of a way to apologize to the person Jeff would be in close contact with in town.
