The Alfen:
The Alfen, a profoundly intelligent and technologically advanced species, discovered they were not alone in the vast expanse of the Universe. Filled with a sense of duty and responsibility, they embarked on a mission to share their advanced technology with less developed species. Most met Their benevolent intentions with acceptance, and the Alfen's influence spread across numerous star systems, culminating in the birth of the Alfen Empire.
As the centuries passed, the Alfen noticed a decline in the populations of their colonies. The species they’d helped began to die off, their lifespans shorter than the Alfen. Undeterred by these setbacks, the Alfen continued their mission. Before long, the worlds that had been so full of vibrant cultures and peoples were left to just the Alfen.
Undeterred, the Alfen set their sights beyond their galaxy. They set out for the Milky Way, establishing a series of hubs in what they’d dub Void Space between the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxies. These hubs operated like cities floating through the vastness of space, tethered only to one another and Terran IV, the homeworld of the Alfen. Sensors kept the hubs aligned as the Alfen explored the neighboring Galaxy. It was here they discovered Humanity. Humans were similar in almost every way to themselves. The two species discovered they could breed with one another, and the two species got along well. The Alfen shared what they could with the young human societies, encouraging them to grow and reach their evolutionary potential.
For centuries, the Alfen and Humans worked side by side. Still, the Humans’ inability to put aside their differences for the good of their development deeply disappointed the Alfen, forcing them to reconsider their relationship. Despite numerous pleas for peace in exchange for prosperity, the Humans continued to fight. The Alfen could no longer tolerate the Humans’ desire for power over all and decided to leave the flawed species to its own devices. The Alfen, Human hybrids, were forced to leave the only homes they’d ever known, The Alfen refusing to leave any sign of their presence behind.
For humanity, Alfen became little more than myths; for the Alfen, Human hybrids, life became monotonous. They were forced to maintain the hubs in the void, their existence becoming synonymous with failure. A black mark on Alfen history. A mistake never to be made again. After leaving the Milky Way, the Alfen decided to adopt isolationist ideologies. Never again did they wish to spread their influence and culture.
