Conspiracy Theories (OOC Chat) [Making Friends and Influencing People]

wheeee!

So, as is likely apparent, I am planning to play my old character, the gnome green arrow wannabe or w/e. Archery, Demolitions, and Infiltration.

What are other people thinking about doing?

I was planning on keeping my old character, a human Bear Shaman, focused on spirit summoning.

In the email thread, Kiyoshi mentioned a face; if I remember right our old group didn't really have one, so that would be something for someone to think about.

Like I said, I'm up for whatever is needed. A face is always fun to play as you can really flush out their personality. But if we don't need one, or if someone else wants to play one, I'm all for playing a crotchety, old Street Sam. He's earned more nuyen than you, wasted more than you, and wants you to get off his genetically engineered lawn.

I think we'll be waiting several weeks for Seped to get the rest of the group to sign up here, so I suggest you go roll up that face. Worst case, someone else really wants to play a face and you get to make your Sam. I'm more expecting no one to feel very strongly about it, so we've saved time by having your face already created, and the other players have a better idea of the party makeup so far.

Everyone is signed up and in the group. I was under the impression that we were just waiting on people to get in gear and figure out characters.

Maradan's missing from the forums and kmmarsh/Sheidowdragon haven't jumped in here yet :)

kmmarsh/Sheidowdragon:

What do you two want to play?

I"m really thinking about doing a caster/face character. Probably focused on more illusions/manipulation and non-combat magic. Just need to get out the SR4 and figure out how to make a good balanced character.

Maradan is on these forums (mkarasek), but not playing in this game.

So, someone (cough Rob cough) forgot to tell me about the forum...which is why I haven't thrown my two cents in yet. Apparently there was also an email chain I never got added to as well... But I've now been informed. Not entirely sure what I want to play yet. I'm thinking hacker, shaman, or sam, but the only thing I really wouldn't want to play would be a face. Thoughts on what would be most useful for the group?

It sounds like hacker maybe? Or a sam of some kind. Depends what kiyoshi decides. Sounds like we have crazy physad, shaman, and Mage/face so far.

Error: ambiguous pointer

Based on who's said they're interested in what, I think kmmarsh being a hacker gives us the best balance:

Feantari - phys adept

Sheltim - heal/offensive shaman

Kiyoshi - crotchety old sam [we have enough magic with sheltim + sheidow]

Sheidow - caster/face - illusions/manipulation and non-combat magic [do you want to cover healing? I can rework my shaman to drop his healing focus if so]

Kmmarsh - hacker

You can basically be a mediocre rigger strong decker, or strong decker mediocre rigger. they have a bit of overlap but need separate equipment sets and some disparate skills.

I don't plan on picking up healing, but I'm still refreshing myself on the SR4 magic system. I did notice there's less penalty of picking up small amount of cyberware, which I'll have to look into. Planning on going shamanistic to fit the charisma based character style. But this toon isn't meant for combat action. My spells will be more to avoid combat and to deal with people.

I'm trying to do both on a technomancer in another game at the moment, and it is really thin. I think a hacker would have an easier time as cross over, but it is going to come down to what drones/vehicles you actually want to have vs. high rated programs.

That sounds good to me. You can check my character sheet for details; feel free to let me know if you have suggestions on how we can better build our characters to work together (eg: I'm weak on skills/knowledges/languages, spells you think I should get, or ones I currently have I can drop, etc).

I see you've only got 3 spells, but a decent mix. You're more summon heavy which is fine. I'll going less summons (though with my high Cha, I probably should get more summons) and more spells. I did notice that you didn't have Assensing, but that's not required for casters. I'm picking it up since fits my character type a bit better.

I'm about done setting up my toon's stats. 200 BP of attributes. About 80,000 of gear (mostly bioware). 6 spells (illusions/manipulation) of which I really want to include invis and levitate....., which leaves 25 BP for contacts. I'm afraid I'm a little starved on the contacts for a face, but there's so much other magical goodness to get. Besides, by picking up 1 phys Ad skill, 1 bioware, and a mentor spirit, I can roll 12 die for Negotiation!

Sheidow, it occurred to me that if you had room to pick up Heal, I could swap around a few things (eg: Bear -> Wolf) and be better at the rest of my kit (combat spells + summoning). But it looks like you're pretty full up already?

On another note, would you suggest I pick up Assensing? I've found a few times it would be useful, but not sure if it's worth the effort of reworking my character.

I'm sorry, that was 16d6 for negotiation tests....

I might be able to pick up heal. I'll have to look. I also need to double check what licenses I'd need, which might require some more cash for -_- One of the bioware I picked up was a sleep regulator so I could drop that if I need to, it's more for character style than utility.

BTW - do we need to come up with how our toons know each other or go with the standard "You're all hired by the same Johnson" approach?

I'm a little curious how your mage with bioware is working out... you know that it subtracts from your purchased magic score a full point for essence under 6 right? So, say you buy magic 5, and then take 0.4 points of bioware then your effective magic is 4 and your essence is 5.6. This is how I have seen it to be anyway. I'm sure you can still do it though. I think I toyed with doing it on a physad in the past, but it was pretty pricey BP-wise.

I'm planning on picking you guys up in the plot where you'd left off. You aren't working for a johnson per se but a scientist you had just successfully transported to his new lab. There was some downtime for the group after that as he got his place set up. Some of your group members have disappeared recently though so the nice Doctor put out some feelers looking for specialists to help you guys out. I wonder who will answer the call for work?

It just occurred to me that I was sharing a place (Medium lifestyle) with Kire. Since he's not around any more... does anyone want to be my roommate? I have a Force 6 Magical Lodge and no pets!

I think you could convince Robin to go in on that, especially after some of the past runs, but it probably makes more sense to work out a reason for the other mage guy to end up there. At least, I don't remember if adepts have much use for the whole lodge thing.
