Competing Against The Odds (FreeMustang + cattamer)

"I still have a curfew, enforced by my grandma. She said she'd skip her visit from Montana if I didn't behave." Riley grumbled a little. "But yeah, come on, I'll give you a ride."

"Oh my gosh... So you're still going to leave me before it even gets dark?" Anna groaned annoyedly "So I guess I have to talk to your grandma about requiring you to get up early too, huh?" she asked a little teasingly, taking one of his hands and twining her fingers through his as they walked through the hospital to his (bike?) "But seriously there's got to be some compromise so we can get the practice we need... I guess I'll see how far you've come on your own huh?" she sighed, really hoping he'd be able to do the complicated and down right dangerous routine she had planned out for them. If they could pull that off then they would win it for sure! Then she wouldn't have to worry about her poor horses getting sold to the glue factory, that was until next season at least.

"No, my curfew is ten now, thanks to my grandma. Thank god I have her on my side... except for the whole getting up early. She'd crack the whip on you. You get up too late for her." He laughed a little, swinging a leg over his bike, and handing her the helmet. After all, her head was valuable.

"Whoa... 5am is too late for her? Really?" Anna asked in surprise "So you're going to be at the barn at what time...?" she asked, glad he was going to be up early "I'll be there when ever you say you will" she said, willing to get up earlier than she had been, she put on her helmet and got on the bike behind him "I've never been on a motorcycle before" she admitted, wrapping her arms around Riley's waist.

"I'll be there at 6." Riley replied. "I do want breakfast you know. Okay, so a bike is like a horse. Just stay centered in your balance, and don't jerk. Otherwise we might both go right back in that hospital. I'd prefer not having to have my hide stapled back on. So stay still."

"It takes you that long to eat? I usually get there in half and hour" Anna smirked "I'll stay perfectly still, I promise"

"I have to eat, shower, do some chores like take out the trash, and then not speed." Riley gently took off, not even hitting the speed limit since he had a passenger that had no experience.

"Ah.... I always do my chores at the end of the day... Then again I don't have my parents to contend with at my place..." Anna smirked "I think we'll have plenty of time to practice if you'll be there at 6am though"

"Yeah. We'll have plenty of time. I'll probably have even more time when my grandma gets here. She seems to think 4 am is when she should crack the whip and yell that we're wasting daylight."

"Might as well start practicing getting up that early, it'll be less of a shock to you." Anna said softly, laying her head on his back

"Oh sure," Riley said sarcastically. "It'll be worth it anyway." He pulled up to the stables. "We're he-" he barely started when a chorus of nieghing from the barn interupted him. The horses wanted fed.

"Oh my... They've learned what your bike means" Anna laughed, taking off the helmet and handing it back to Riley "How is Flight's leg doing?" she asked, feeling worried about the mare once again.

"She's all good," Riley got off, almost having to yell over the nieghing.

"I'm coming, so stop your yelling at me!" Riley yelled towards the barn. The horses only grew louder. Miles was leading the chorus.

Anna laughed at Riley's response as she followed him into the barn, letting him carry the bales until she could cut them and grab the flakes to toss in the stalls for each of her horses, going into Flight's stall to inspect her leg "Now to get her back to work"

Riley smiled. "Well, yeah, but you have a lot of practicing to do. Hey uh, since you're out... do you want to like... go out to dinner..?"

Anna straightened up and looked at Riley in surprise "Dinner? Umm... Sure" she smiled, figuring he must just mean as friends.

Riley smiled a little awkwardly. "As in....a...da...te...."

Miles rubbed his head on the awkward Riley, whose ears were turning a little red in embarrassment.

"A what...?" Anna asked, tilting her head to the side, was he really asking her out on a serious date? No! He must have used the wrong word or something "Yeah, you said tonight.... The 7th...? Yeah?"

Riley pretty much banged his head on the post. "No no a DATE!"

There it was out. Now she could accept or decline.... and he'd never live this down.

"Yeah, I'll go out on a date with you" Anna said automatically, her face turning a little red, what was she saying?! He probably wanted to take he to some rough and tumble biker bar thing! "Uhh... So.. Tonight huh?"

Riley looked a little shocked by her answer. "Y-you w-will? Really? Uh yeah tonight? Does that work for you?"

Riley could not believe his ears. He actually got her to agree to a date? Amazing. It was amazing that they weren't fighting, much more amazing that it was a date!

"Riley... It's a date, it's not like we're getting married" Anna grinned "Your face is as red as a tomato" she couldn't help teasing him "Yeah, tonight works for me, what time? Is this like... A casual date...? Right?" she asked, wondering how things had turned around so quickly. It was like they were in the twilight zone! Like she had hit her head and was suddenly in some parallel reality!

Married?!

Riley's mouth dropped open and he stood there utterly speechless until he managed out, "7pm? Causal?"

What was he even getting himself into?!

He was bright red. It was quite obvious he had no idea what he was doing.... very obvious.

"Riley.... Relax..." Anna struggled to keep from laughed, he looked as if he was ready to run for the hills to get away from her now "I was joking... about... It's just a nice casual date, Riley don't forget to BREATH!!!" she said over dramatically and she gently took his shoulders and shook him slightly as if trying to snap him out of this trance.

Riley took a breath -more like a gasp.

He stared at her in pure shock. Like a complete idiot.

Riley wanted to curl up now and hide from all humanity. Why did this have to be so... embarrassing...? What was he doing wrong?

That's when his brain simply gave up and quit thinking. He just looked at her, mouth now closed, but still blank mindedly.
