Comic fantasy / college romance fan

Hi yall!

Just a couple years of forum based roleplaying experience here. Looking to probably just run 1 story at a time, but like neat clean closed ended stories a few weeks long each.

Stuff I'm into:

* Game of Thrones (mainly a book fan, so let's say A Song of Ice and Fire)

* His Dark Materials (i.e. The Golden Compass), The Mither Mages (The Lost Gate etc),

* Discworld!

* Basically all the typical sci-fi and fantasy nerdy stuff

I'm an older guy w a life, work, kids, etc. Love working w people who can relate.

My favorite genres tend to be one of:

* Light hearted comic fantasy romp a la Discworld

* OR, nostalgic college romances, typically involving dark backgrounds, or very different people drawn together somehow

Somehow, I do *not* get anime.

Hope to see yall around the site!

Welcome to the site, Feral Teddy Feral Teddy !

From one newbie to another, I'm sure you'll find something to your taste around the place soon.

I've only been here a day, and I'm already intrigued by one.

How do you find roleplaying Discworld?

I like the books, but I think I'd struggle to match Pratchett's whimsical brand of humour.

So I haven't actually roleplayed Discworld itself, but rather drawing inspiration in the silliness of Pratchett. Or in the way he puts serious characters into absolutely silly situations. Basically, it's just fun to take the story light heartedly.

Case in point - one character I wrote like this was a dwarf with a magic sword in search of his long lost ancestral home.... except that really he was a halfling con artist wearing LOTS of hay as padding under his armor and a fake beard.

I love it!

How did The Amazing Beard end up?

Yes, I like the idea of turning the classic fantasy tropes on their head. I have an idea I'd like to explore one day partly based on the intro to Guards Guards, but it would probably require 3-5 players with a common shared idea of what we're doing and I haven't had that and the time to explore it for some time.

Also, maps are hard.

Guards Guards and the entire Sam Vines subset of the series is my favorite!

The beard actually made for a great running gag. I would swap it out for a different beard made of different materials routinely (wool, yarn, paint, dirt, scalped off a kill, etc - occasionally more and more ludicrous).

I absolutely suck at trying out group stories, but hey something might be doable here. I sorta want to recapture the silliness and fun of tabletop fantasy RP back in high school.

I'm not sure it's something I'm ready to try at the moment, but I'll Watch you so I can find you when I'm next willing to give it a try!

I have a story I'm getting involved with in College/Urban Fantasy and just like you I'm aiming to only do the one at a time. Though... I prefer group to 1x1.

(Scalped off a kill? There's a story there isn't there?)
