The air was thick with the lingering chill of a New York winter, the skyline illuminated by the dim orange glow of streetlights reflecting off patches of snow. Icy wind snaked through the narrow alleys and bustling streets, whispering secrets from a bygone era of power and prosperity. The year teetered between 1999 and 2000, a time heavy with anticipation and unease. Once the heartbeat of organized crime, the city now felt like a lion with its teeth pulled — scarred and weathered, but far from tamed.

In the shadow of Manhattan’s towering monoliths, where dreams are forged and shattered, lay a world most hope never to run into. Bars with dim neon signs buzz with muted life, their smoky interiors sheltering those who cling to the edges of legitimacy. Cracked pavement lead to forgotten clubs, abandoned warehouses, and the occasional studio that harbored whispered schemes behind locked doors. The underworld is a patchwork quilt of broken families and lost legacies, stitched together with desperation and ambition.

With the fall of old kings, the city’s criminal empires have crumbled, leaving power up for grabs. The streets echoed with the sound of opportunists — new blood looking to carve out their own piece of the American dream, one act of cunning or violence at a time. In the midst of all the chaos sits Ivan Vasiliev, a shadowy figure offering work to those who’ve found the rat race more unforgiving than the criminal path.

The city is alive, waiting to see who will rise from the ashes of a once-golden empire, and who will fall victim to its cold, unyielding embrace.

A mastermind at cleaning dirty money, he navigates the world of shell companies, offshore accounts, and under-the-table dealings.

They might be eager, naive, or overly ambitious, quickly realizing that the criminal world is harsher than they thought. Their allegiance to Ivan’s crew is untested, but their potential is undeniable. What brings them to this line of work?

The person responsible for moving products on the street level. Dealers have street smarts and know how to handle themselves in rough situations. They’ve developed relationships with buyers, sellers, and everyone in between. May be from a different state and keeps in contact with Ivan through coded messages or burner phones.

Posing as a loyal member of the crew, the Saboteur is undercover expertly embedded in Ivan’s operations. Their backstory is flawless — there's no reason to doubt their loyalty, and they’ve spent months, gaining trust and climbing the ranks. On the surface, they appear to be just another opportunist looking to make their way in a world of crime, but beneath the façade is a mission: gather intelligence, sabotage operations, and bring everything down from within.

This is an organized crime roleplay taking place in New York City circa 2000s. There will be "work" trips spanning from Niagra Falls all the way to sunny Miami, and many enemies along the way.

Takes inspiration from the following media: Goodfellas, The Godfather, Mafia, Cocaine Cowboys, and The Departed.

This roleplay is not first come, first serve. Characters will be reviewed and chosen if suitable. Excited to read over their profiles!

To ensure the roleplay runs smoothly, here are some key rules:

• No Godmodding. Please don't control or dictate someone else's character without permission.
• Be sure the characters' backgrounds, skills, and motives are appropriate for this world.
• Please post regularly and engage in OORP chatter! A minimum of one post per week is needed to keep progression moving.
• Must be 18+ to join.
• No bigotry is allowed, and all conflict will be handled privately.
• Please handle all mature topics appropriately and respect everyone's triggers. That being said, this roleplay will cover themes such as blood, gun violence, drug abuse, etc.
• The minimum post length will be three descriptive paragraphs and up to a full page. Don't want to overwhelm anyone else!
• Pairings are allowed between characters; however, this is not a romance roleplay. Don't date your coworkers! ( Especially if they can stab you in the back. )
