  • Superhumans make up approximately 0.08% of the population. There are currently 6,736 residing in New York City, and of those six-thousand odd people, only a handful are heroes. The Association for the Research and Control of Enhanced Persons (better known as ARCEP, and often shortened to "ARC" or "The Association") sponsors these heroes by allowing them to play figurehead leader to heroics agencies that work in tandem with local crime-management in cases that involve enhanced individuals. As far as general public opinion is concerned, heroes do most (if not all) the work.

This, of course, is incorrect. What would be the point of having departments full of sidekicks, informants, ARC agents, doctors, lawyers, PR workers, and countless others if that were true? The heroes do fill an integral role, but not the only role when it comes to hero agencies. Behind them are dozens of people who are heroes just as well (even if they don't hold the name) that the agencies would fall apart without. Still, without heroes, the agencies have no excuse to exist.

So, when heroes start going missing around the world, replacements must be found. Backups. Second picks, you might say.

This rp will be following a group of newly-promoted heroes in New York City. The setting is modern, and the rp will start a little less than a week after a large chunk of New York's heroes go missing. This hits them especially hard because they had already lost a few a month prior and are now without any senior heroes. The plot will be strongly character driven and have an episodic style, where every "chapter" introduces a new big bad for them to handle (this can range anywhere, from your stereotypical supervillain to a particularly bad PR fiasco). The overarching plot will be dealing with the difficulties of trying to live up to the expectations that they set/the new responsibilities our characters now have as well as figuring out exactly what happened to the heroes who went missing. I'm expecting some found family themes, some elements from Marvel/DC/MHA, and some of the conflicts that the overarching plot suggests (dealing with poor public rep, balancing hero work and regular life, etc).

Characters will not be limited to new heroes, however they must be related to them in some way. You are free to make doctors, PR agents, lawyers, or anyone else that works in the hero agencies, but if you do then you will have to keep in mind that they probably won't be in the thick of the action most the time. It's ultimately your responsibility to link them to our main focus (although I will help if I can). For the start, I'll be limiting main characters to only two per person, but there will probably be chances to add more later in the rp.

I'm looking for a group of 3 to 6 people and about weekly posting (of course, life happens, so it's totally fine to miss here or there, but there should be an attempt). This rp will not be first come first served (I'll be picking people based on CSs), and -once people are picked- I'll set up a Discord server for the OOC. Everyone will be allowed (and encouraged) to participate in plotting and worldbuilding. This rp will be semi-lit: I'm not expecting perfect grammar and capitalization and such, just no extremely short posts (2-3 paragraphs will probably be the average post length) and understandable writing at least.

This probably goes without saying, but everyone needs to follow RPnation rules. Be civil to one another and please no 18+ content. If someone fails to follow these guidelines, then I will not hesitate to kick them from the rp.

And, just a reminder, we're all roleplaying to make a story and have fun. If you have any questions that haven't been answered by the other tabs, need help with your character, or anything else like that, then feel free to DM me!

(P.S. There are tabs at the start of the post if you missed them. Please check them out if you're interested!)

CS Thread Link: Realistic or Modern - Second Pick CS Thread

The CS thread will be closed on June 4 (about noon-ish PST)

Note: This is a reboot, so if you notice that the CS thread is older than this interest check, that's why. All people currently in the CS thread (me, @Tapfic, ScatheAriiasqDrayceon ScatheAriiasqDrayceon , and @Nephalem) are automatically gonna be a part of this rp cause Tap and Flame are my co-GMs, and Neph was part of the original and I feel like it'd be mean to just yeet someone out like that lol

I'm also interested.
...Do I have to have create a separate Hero Agency or can my Hero or Sidekick be part of one of the existing ones you three (the GM's), have already come up with?
I ask because it seems everyone is from different agencies so far.

So the idea I had was for a young hero/maybe more likely sidekick? Similar to Peter(Matchstick), with a powerful though with a far less :bishiesparklesl:flashy:bishiesparklesl: power that would be more suited towards hit-and-run assassination and infiltration than an open fight or a press event. A much calmer and cautious personality, that (if accepted and also been part of Hive) might work well as a bit of a foil and potential friend? If that's not a thing you'd want on the table that's also fine.

To answer your question: There's no need to make your own hero agency, just ask whoever made the agency you're trying to get your character in on first.
After having read your character concept, I love that idea (I'm always a fan of setting up preexisting relations between characters), and I'm totally up for letting another hero in on Hive! Although, I do want to remind you that ARC does put on a good guy act, so you'll need to keep in mind that openly assassinating people and such could reflect pretty badly on ARC and therefore is likely to be kept under wraps (although, I'm sure there are ways for ARC to try to play off something like that as a good thing, but—if that is what you go with—then it'll be your responsibility to make sure it makes sense and such).
If you've got any other questions or need feedback on something else, feel free to reply again here, or (if it's something you'd prefer to keep unspoiled for the other RPers) PM me and/or some of the other GMs !

So based on what you said I did decide to go for a less PR problematic and more heroic twist on the assassination, being more non-lethal hit and run non-lethal restraining and takedowns route.

And can I just say, regardless if you accept or dont accept the character. It was fun to make them! :D

Well, didn't read some of the characters first. I originally aimed for low to mid level DC comics ... then discovered that would be WAY OP (He was a watered down Superman - no flight, x-ray vision, heat vision, etc. But even watered down feels OP.)

So ... newer ideas in mind. I have an idea for a spidergirl concept named Arachne ... though I might go with a character I used to pair her with, Micronaut. (Do I really have to write cool beans on my CS ...)
As long as you balance her enough to fit the power levels of all the people in the RP, she should be fine. Feel free to reply again to this thread or DM me/one of the co-GMs if you've got any specific questions about whether a certain power is OP or not, or something like that. You're also allowed up to two characters to start off with, so if you'd like to have both Arachne and Micronaut, then that's completely allowed so long as they both follow the rules. (And yes. The beans are necessary.)

Y'all still looking for people?
We've got about 4 people interested (not counting the three I've already mentioned being automatically accepted at the end of the post), so I'm up for accepting more people, but—like the first post says—it's not gonna be first come first served, so if you submit a CS (deadline for them is June 4th) then I can't promise that it'll get accepted (especially if we hit 6+ people interested, still excluding the three auto accepted ones). So kind of yes kind of no, I guess?

I could be a villain?
You could have a side character villain at a later point, but our main focus will be the heroes and the other people working in the hero agencies, so your main character(s) (the ones your entering with, others will be made later) have to be heroes/hero adjacent.

Okay!

Not super concerned just that Impulse and my girl have a similar history of being taken by a Villain and then followed by being collected by ARC and eventually used by ARC

By itself I don't have an issue if they both have that in common itself, though I feel like it might be pretty weird if they have such similar stories AND both in same agency.
