The shoutbox was a nice feature, that I'll agree with. I am very firm in my belief it doesn't 'make' or 'break' the site, though.
If you can't download TS, the Discussion | RpNation.com - Best Roleplay Forum works just as well. More specific to topics, but it by no means is the only option.
You'll have to look into your own offsite solutions, at least for now, if you'd like to use 'instant' chat.

That's a huge disappointment, I'll be honest.
The shoutbox is a great meeting place, and the suggestions really aren't a sufficient substitute for it. I'll miss it.
As for whether this makes or breaks the site, well, that's certainly subjective. For some folks, the SB was the place to meet new blood, hang out with old friends, and enjoy late night rendezvous. TS is rather divisive in essence by comparison; while the SB was one big, great meeting place, TS is divided into sections and chatrooms and everybody sticks to their corner, occasionally meeting in the middle. Plus, it's less active and less accessible (costs money on mobile, for instance).
What's the issue with having the SB in its little corner of the site? I really don't get it, though I read your post carefully, Dwiz. Because it eats messages and there's no perfect solution, it's best to do away with it?
