The new development of faster-than-light spacecraft had greatly broadened the possibilities for exploration. The government was quick to commission a group of scientists to leave on an expedition, to chart the uncharted expanse of outer space and report any findings of scientific importance.
The Earth was failing to support life. The planet had been drained of its resources years before, and its inhabitants were suffering. The possibility of inhabitable planets beyond what has been discovered was the only hope that mankind wouldn’t become extinct in the near future.

The group of scientists, now explorers, were ushered into the spacecraft. The automated launch feature was activated. The group sat in anticipation waiting for the sixty-second countdown to end.
