It more or less comes down to nice guys and jerks as well as people who play by the rules or don't. However, the topic itself comes with a modicum of debate. So ladies and gentlemen, I also provide you with a poll and the rest to discuss your rationale. Insight would be great to read about.

Excellent, DerU. Really cool post. I am going to take a test to verify my results, but if I take a swing at it, I'd say Chaotic Good. I always root for the "little guy", 99% of the time look for win-win situations that benefit everybody, and flip my lid when I see someone getting disrespected. I have maliciously good intentions, so we'll see what that ends up under as.

=P. I was off! Lawful Neutral!

A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs her. Order and organization are paramount to her. She may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or she may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government. The common phrase for lawful neutral is "true lawful." Lawful neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you are reliable and honorable without being a zealot.

Reading the description, I'd have to say it's pretty spot on. I misunderstood what being "good" really is all about, and mistook "chaotic" for "neutral", it seems. 100% yes, I live by a personal code. Order/organization are extremely important to me, no matter area of life. Nothing substantive gets done without some form of direction or some measure of standard.

Wow. Simple post topic but I learned a lot from this DerU. Very insightful. It makes me wonder what Chaotic Good really is then. Enlighten me if you know, please. I would appreciate it.

@DerUbermensch Also, if you could explain being the lawful part to me? I don't get it. Is it following my personal code in a non-rule breaking way? If yes, I do that ALL THE TIME. Again, thanks for this.

Chaotic Good from what I've seen is a nice person who doesn't play by the rules. Lawful just means plays by the rules. I am Lawful Evil as I do play by the rules, albeit enforce them in a merciless manner. Or more crudely, a jerk who plays by the rules.

Shame on you, and understood. Thanks for clearing it up

. . . I took the test too. I didn't get the one I'd thought I would get. It kind of pertains to the discussion though.

Chaotic Good

A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he’s kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit.

An unjust law is no law at all, I guess. *Robin Hood pose*

So just to be clear were putting which of the options above we personally fall under or the types of characters we prefer to play?

And what is this test everyone is mentioning?

The question is which alignment do you think you fit most with. Not types of characters. Personally, I need no test to figure out that I'm Lawful Evil. One statement to sum it up is: "Bringing order to the universe, even if it means throttling it into submission." That actually suits me. Sure I may be a jerk, but I play by the rules. Besides, why break them if you can work with them?

The alignment test is commonly found throughout the internet. You can find scores of them via Google.

@DerUbermensch I believe the rules of moral alignment dictate I have to overthrow your evil regime.

Sorry about that. But it's in the script. Not that I'm following the script. I'll just wait and see how evil you are and then interfere based on my own sense of personal justice.

Lawful Evil isn't just in the form of a tyrant. But can also manifest as a villain with a code of honor or enforces the rules without mercy. I especially have none for traitors and cowards.

Ohhh, scary. A villain with a code of honor is pretty fascinating though. From a writing standpoint. I instantly thought Darth Vader when Lawful Evil came up. It's a good point that there are some non tyrant examples though.

The Predator from the same name movie series can be seen as Lawful Evil. Sure they kill humans for sport, but make sure it is armed/dangerous humans. Avoiding the unarmed, sick, young, or pregnant. No sport or honor for them if they hunt a helpless quarry.

Hmm, I got True Neutral, pretty accurate once I read the description o-o.

A true neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. He doesn't feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most true neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil after all, he would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, he's not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. Some true neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run. True neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you act naturally, without prejudice or compulsion. However, true neutral can be a dangerous alignment when it represents apathy, indifference, and a lack of conviction.

Though, I'd like to think of myself as chaotic neutral, but yea, that's my own bias. <3

I can verify that this is true. We are also talented at frosting cupcakes and bringing down the establishment.

I got Chaotic Evil:

Chaotic Evil- A chaotic evil character does whatever his greed, hatred, and lust for destruction drive him to do. He is hot-tempered, vicious, arbitrarily violent, and unpredictable. If he is simply out for whatever he can get, he is ruthless and brutal. If he is committed to the spread of evil and chaos, he is even worse. Thankfully, his plans are haphazard, and any groups he joins or forms are poorly organized. Typically, chaotic evil people can be made to work together only by force, and their leader lasts only as long as he can thwart attempts to topple or assassinate him. Chaotic evil is sometimes called demonic because demons are the epitome of chaotic evil. Chaotic evil is the best alignment you can be because combines self-interest and pure freedom. However, chaotic evil can be a dangerous alignment because it represents the destruction not only of beauty and life but also of the order on which beauty and life depend.

When I think about it, it sort of makes sense, I would often stab someone in the back for personal gain, and I often find it easier to destroy than to create.

I also seem to get neural evil a lot on tests too, but chaotic evil seems most prevalent.

Shouldn't this thread be in either the Entertainment or Personal Discussion boards? Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

I can say with nearly 100% certainty that I'm True Neutral. I'll do whatever seems most sensible at any given moment.

Got Neutral Good, although it was rather close to what I expected, Chaotic Good. You can say it depends on my mood that day.

I myself, and several of my RP characters are either Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, or something in between.

Like I once did an alignment test from my character's point of view, and I got Neutral Good, while on her sheet (it's a D&D character) it says she's Chaotic Good. And sometimes she and the party do things that border CN. So that balances it out a bit I think.
