Chapter One: Lilium [Knocking on Heaven's Door]

The Solar ran forever, everything a blur of motion, color and sounds as she lost herself to the dreamlike state of sorrow. She could barely even endure herself right now, the cowardice of running away for her life like this. Shameful. Just shameful.

And then she noticed them, the beautiful flowers withering and dying away. Only she knew well enough what that could mean and it broke her heart as she barely managed to hold in a sob. Everything went so wrong, this was horrible beyond words. Gentle Emerald Leaf...

Her friend... gone?

She heard screams as soldiers of the Hunt noticed her running through the hidden paths of the forest and her fury knew no bound. It all came unbounded at a moment's notice, no longer did she know mercy or restraint, only holy fury and lust for blood.

"I have witnessed your world... I have found it lacking. I have judged your kind... I have found them wicked. I have weighted your souls... I have found them heavy with sin!" she screamed vociferously as she held her hand in front of her, light shining forth from her tattoo in great waves.

"I have watched you and I have found you... wanting." and soon enough with those words said she held her immense blade, easily lifting it with a single hand as she charged the soldiers, ready to rip them to shreds, even as she noticed the strange man with a scythe. Was he friend? Was he foe? She did not know. Did not care. If he was with them, if he was with them at all, then she would put an end to him too.

Her soul screamed for release, the cathartic release of slaughtering those who broke her idyllic life.

From his hidden post, the not-falcon continued to wait, to watch, to observe. And wait. And watch. And wait. He spied some new player--NOT A CIVILIAN-- ambush the Dragon-Born mid-inquisition. How rude. He watched the kind-of-hot psychotic chick, quick as a psychotic chick, cheat her ass off like any self-respecting terrestrial and deflect the definitely-not-a-civilian arrow. Things were about to get uglier than a Sunday morning in an Cynis frathouse. And damn, was he bored. Then again, bored is better than dead. Usually. Sometimes. That said, it was probably a good time to get BACK in the air from his stealthy little spot where nobody could see him. Upsy-daisy!

Right when the shit was hitting the fan, about to spray yet another fecal projectile all over everyone and everything, the situation magically become...well...not right by any means, but slightly less obnoxious and a lot more angst-worthy. Something entirely different was happening out with the army--Carus couldn't see exactly what was going on, what with all the smoke in the air, but the soldiers definitely weren't standing around looking tutonically moronic like any good army should. At the same time, the town's OTHER god, the one that had been laying low and showing a sense of self preservation, decided to commit suicide in a nicely public and distracting manner. Fun way to go, all things considered. After some more of the entirely unnecessary word-bandying that holds no purpose whatsoever, yet makes everything in life far more fun, things got back on track for the anathema. It was now finally time for everybody to frantically flee for their lives. What does it say about someone's lifestyle when that's a comforting, nostalgic thought?

The young, impetuous, egotistical Lunar continued to drift overhead as a conspicuous group of doubtfully!civilians moseyed away from the killing fields. Lazily following them, the smoke and chaos pretty much concealing him from casual notice, he followed their progress through the light forest. Boooriiin--, he started to think, before suddenly noticing that happenings appeared to be happening; --ooooooh, more people! Dressed in shiny things. Holding shiny things. And...oh. Bugger. There's another "civilian" behind everybody wielding an overcompensatorily sized garden tool. As if you could actually harvest with that thing. It looked like things were about to finally get interesting again. Carus began to drift lower, towards the canopy, getting ready for when things really began.

Oh.

Oh.

Signum would have facepalmed if she hadn't been too busy trying to look official and mysterious and Sidereal-ey for Harbinger's benefit. Feather Duster running headlong into battle? Not really a surprise. Not that Signum could actually blame the girl by this point, given that she seemed to have already realized that her village was a smoldering crater by now, but it was just too easy to poke fun at how stereotypical her behavior was for a Solar.

The other fellow, though - the one with a scythe, fighting some soldiers. If he wasn't already dead, he must be quite skilled, and Heaven knew that they might need a bit more backup before the day was over. Well, strictly speaking, according to the mission parameters, they didn't. But it wasn't like anything had been going fucking right today, and Signum, for her part, was just about ready to snap like some old dude's brittle spine when punched in the tit by God. Having another, like, fifty dudes walking towards them like they were tough shit and seriously thought they could take on a Sidereal and a freaking Abyssal with only five to one odds wasn't really helping.

...Not that she was planning on taking on all of them herself, 'cause damn if she was fighting alone.

"What was that about not getting your recommended daily dose of splitting someone open, Harbinger? Would you care to join me for a little morning exercise?"

With a harsh but gleeful laugh, Signum lept headfirst at the approaching human scum, idly wondering how long it would take Harbinger to notice that she already knew his name and what his response would be. She was relatively certain that while the thought would very possibly cross his mind, he would likely want to ask her about it rather than trying to backstab her - he wasn't a necromancer, at least according to the latest status report on him that she'd read, so there wasn't too much of a risk of him resurrecting her as a ghost bound to his will.

And that was what her Prior Warning ability was for, anyways. Pushing the niggling doubts out of her mind, Signum yanked her wraithmetal spear out of Elsewhere with a thought and jammed it into one of the oncoming soldiers' faces, then speared someone else in the face at the EXACT SAME GODDAMN TIME. Damn, she was good.
