Realistic or Modern Century City: A super hero RP

SAIGO-NO-HEATS

A drifter, returned
Would anyone be interested in an independent super hero RP that doesn't take place in the Marvel or DC universes?

We would create our own superhero and villain organizations, deal with a number of comic book esqe plots from alien invasions, alternate universes, and of course the villians' own continuous efforts to take over/destroy the world

Characters would primarily be divided into 4 different catagories

Heroes: The classic stand up for all that is good types. They have strict codes about killing, excessive violence, and destruction but are generally beloved by the people at large and receive assistance and benefits from the government so long as they adhere to the hero code.

Vigilantes: Unlicensed heroes who operate outside of the code and without any proper documentation. They typically have a more laisseze-faire attitude towards killing and as a result are considered criminals by the higher hero network but are typically ignored so long as they don't cross the line or prove themselves to be as much trouble as the villians they claim to be fighting.

Rogues: Villians with a conscience, rogues usually prefer crimes that will benefit them in some way such as heists and robberies as opposed to just creating wanton destruction and chaos. More importantly, they also tend to shy away from outright murder, while they'll still kill to defend themselves or if the bounty is high enough the usually make a point to not go out of their way to cause unnecessary damage.

Villians: The truth of the world is that bad people exist. Some are born and others are made that way over time but that doesn't matter so much once they've tried to level a city. Villians are genuinely bad people regardless of their reasoning, they destroy things, kill people, and create chaos, sometime for a goal like revenge or amassing power, but other times it's just for the hell of it. Villians tend to draw the most hate from everyone, and if one gets too strong it's not uncommon for temporary alliances between Heroes, vigilantes, rogues, and even other villians to form and try to stop them. Though with that being said, they are also often smart enough to team up if a would-be hero starts to become to much of a pain

Sounds like a great idea to come up with original characters in an original setting. I'm intrigued...

Yeah. I thought it could be more interesting to build something from the ground up rather than setting it in a pre-established setting. I'll work on a character sheet for submissions and create a proper thread if this seems like it's generating traffic.

I'm in, I was in a superpower RP recently, but it was shut down, so I need a,New one, especially since I spent so much time on the characters, I'll probably use them here

Vigilante reporting.
Wow, I didn't expect to see this many people so quickly. Glad to have everyone on board. I made the sheet for character submissions so if you want to give that a look I'll post it here.

Also I've been putting together some organizations and the like for the setting so we aren't just running around in a vacuum. The main group I've put together is called UNISON (United Nations International Superhuman Overwatch Network). They're like a mixture of SHIELD and the Hero Association from OPM. Essentially they keep tabs on all active powered individuals in the world, decide the priority and danger levels of criminals and villains and provide benefits to heroes who have registered with them. While heroes are usually fine with them the other alignments tend to hate them for a number of reasons.

I also have a few other factions I'm toying with like ARCADE (American Research Center for the Advancement and Defense of Earth) or Rowe University (an academy for up and coming super humans, sort of like Xavier's institute.) but so far I've only come up with Hero groups. So if you guys have any idea for Villain organizations, vigilante compacts, rogue gangs, other hero groups or anything else you can think of, just throw it up here.

Identity: their true name

Alias: The name they assume when in costume

Gender: Self-explanatory

Age: same as above

Alignment: Are they a hero, villain, vigilante, or rogue?

A quick run down on the differences

Heroes: The classic stand up for all that is good types. They have strict codes about killing, excessive violence, and destruction but are generally beloved by the people at large and receive assistance and benefits from the government so long as they adhere to the hero code.

Vigilantes: Unlicensed heroes who operate outside of the code and without any proper documentation. They typically have a more laissez-faire attitude towards killing and as a result are considered criminals by the higher hero network but are typically ignored so long as they don't cross the line or prove themselves to be as much trouble as the villains they claim to be fighting.

Rogues: Villains with a conscience, rogues usually prefer crimes that will benefit them in some way such as heists and robberies as opposed to just creating wanton destruction and chaos. More importantly, they also tend to shy away from outright murder, while they'll still kill to defend themselves or if the bounty is high enough the usually make a point to not go out of their way to cause unnecessary damage.

Villains: The truth of the world is that bad people exist. Some are born and others are made that way over time but that doesn't matter so much once they've tried to level a city. Villains are genuinely bad people regardless of their reasoning, they destroy things, kill people, and create chaos, sometime for a goal like revenge or amassing power, but other times it's just for the hell of it. Villains tend to draw the most hate from everyone, and if one gets too strong it's not uncommon for temporary alliances between Heroes, vigilantes, rogues, and even other villains to form and try to stop them. Though with that being said, they are also often smart enough to team up if a would-be hero starts to become to much of a pain

Affiliation: While many Super humans run solo, many others prefer to band together for a number of different reasons. These compacts can range anywhere from a handful of supers joining together in a makeshift alliance to defend their part of the city, to an international organization that works to control the fate of the world.

Most proper heroes are at least licenced with the United Nations International Superhuman Overwatch Network (UNISON) which works to keep track of all superpowered individuals, their criminal records, and provide benefits and pay to heroes who act within the confines of the Heroic Code. As a result most supergroups are similarly tied to UNISON.

Villains are more prone to running solo but often find that taking on the world alone isn’t so wise. As a result many either swear fealty to one of the many major conspiracies trying to wreak havoc on the world in one way or another or at the very least band together with other like minded individuals to form something of a gang.

Vigilantes are by their very nature loners and are shunned by UNISON, either for their past actions or their refusal to register with the program. As a result any groups they form are recognized only by themselves, and usually are made up only of similarly focused members.

While Rogues can be found working for local criminal networks, they are just as often found running solo or as part of a gang.

Physical Appearance: What do they look like? Pics are acceptable in costume out of costume or both.

Personality: What do they act like? What motivates them?

Powers: Superhuman abilities. Strange things they can do without any assistance. Elemental control, psychic powers, duplication, super strength, flight, teleportation, magical abilities, luck manipulation, shapeshifting, time travel, and many, many more. The possibilities are endless but do be mindful not to make a character that is unstoppable.

Equipment: Weapons and devices, some of which may even grant the above abilities either through science or magic.

Origin: How did they get their powers and what event inspired them to use them how they do? Are their powers magical in nature or born from mutations? Did they gain them in some scientific accident or did they build a device that lets them use it? Maybe they were born on an alien planet where their powers were commonplace but have come to earth for one reason or the next.

Relations: Family members, mentors, allies, rivals, or enemies. You don’t have to include everyone they’ve ever met, but anyone you think might be important either now or for later goes here.

I've got the perfect char for this, def interested! Do you want the CS posted here in this interest check or is it just for feasting the eyes upon?

You can post here if you want, it'll just be copied over to the thread once I get it made. I'll put it up once I make an opening post and possibly get my own sheet filled out.

Alright! I'll have mine up by tomorrow. Going for a Rogue type.

Identity: Gil Pierce

Alias: Gecko

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Alignment: Vigilante

Affiliation: Independent

Physical Appearance: In human form, Gil is around 1.78 meters/ 5.8 feet tall. He has green eyes, dark black hair, long at the top and short at the back and sides. He has sharp cheekbones, small ears, and small eyebrows.

In his lizard form, he is the same height, but with yellow eyes, sharp claws, no hair whatsoever, sharp teeth, a long tail, spines running down his back and a large bony crest on his head

Personality: Gil is often angry and prone to violence, a result of his bio-engineered traits (explained below.) He can lash out quite easily at others if they so much as give him or a friend a petty insult. He has a strong sense of justice, having a hatred of criminals. When he finds them, he'll give them a warning, come with him to jail, or what usually happens, upon recusal beat them until they surrender, often killing them before they even get a chance, hence his status as a vigilante.

He is often very serious, and hates sarcasm.

He is loyal to any friends he has, and will defend them until the end. Although he doesn't tend to make many.

Powers: Gil's main power is to change into a humanoid reptile. The applications of this are:

Wall crawling: Gil can scale vertical walls

Prehensile tongue: Gil has an extendable forked tongue which he uses to capture enemies and bring them in for the kill.

Prehensile tail: Gil also has a tail, which while not as useful as his tongue in battle, it can be used to hang down from a vantage point.

Camouflage: While unable to turn completely invisible, Gil can alter his colour to blend in with his surroundings. He is also prone to changing from emotional stimulus, red when angry, blue if said, green if neutral. This could be a dead giveaway if he were suddenly to feel strongly about something while hiding from view

Claws: Gil is armed with sharp claws on his hands.

Sharp teeth: Gil has a mouthful of sharp teeth.

Tough skin: Gil's skin, and while not completely impenetrable, is resistant to blades and bullets

Regeneration: Gil is able to heal from injuries quite quickly, depending on the severity, it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours to recover completely from an injury.

Equipment: None.

Origin: Gil was originally grown in a test tube as a government experiment, his genes altered to make him a good soldier, as well as being engineered with the ability to transform into his lizard form, however when he failed to do so, he was given away, all this at 2 years old, Gil himself still doesn't know this. When he was about 17, his power manifested, and he began his vigilante career.

Relations: Emily Pierce (adoptive mother)

Gordon Pierce (adoptive father)

Jamie Connor (best friend)

Identity: Nathan Winhart

Alias: The Wall Walker

Gender: Male

Age: 25

Alignment: Rogue

Physical Appearance: See above photo (Costume is just a hoodie + a ski mask)

Personality: One word just about sums up Nate. An ass. He loves to bug people, to laugh at people, he doesn't care for anyone except himself. He's smart and he's strong and he's resourceful but his jerkiness kind of outweigh the pros.

It's very rare that Nate's tried to strike a relationship with someone. Don't get me wrong, he isn't anti-social, he's just not ready to make friends. If you want to pester him, all I'll say is be careful. While he's very good at keeping his lax and rolling-his-eyes kind of attitude, if you get under his skin, he doesn't forget.

Nate isn't a team player. He's obnoxious and he's stubborn and he enjoys getting on people's nerves, pushing their buttons and watching them explode. It's a pastime of his. He can be cocky and refuse to do anything unless it's done in his own way. Lazy at times, too. But his skill set is valuable. That's usually the only reason people keep him around, if at all.

Often has a cigarette in his mouth, half the time he never even lights it. Only when he's angry he'll light it. Lots of winking, smirking, rolling of eyes. He doesn't have any tell-tale signs that tell you he's angry or sad or upset, aside from the cigarette lighting and the occasional time he'll run a hand through his hair.

"Each to their own. Don't tell me what to do."

Powers: Intangibility/Wall Walking || It's hard to put Nate's power under a specific category. You could call him a Wall Walker. That's what he calls himself, anyway. Nate has to be very focused, otherwise he could just plain run into a wall and not pass through it, or even worse, become tangible while in some form of physical matter. Nate, despite being the careless ass he is, has actually never been caught in this situation. Yet. He has been caught in situations, however, where he has been too tired to pass through walls.

While it may be hard to label Nate's power, it's not hard to understand. He can jump through walls, he can pull people through walls, he can walk on walls. There. You've got it. I know it looks like he's not trying hard, but that's just the way Nate handles everything. Tries very hard. Makes it look like he isn't. It's fun, actually. He likes stunning people.

There is always the possibility of over-exertion. Nate can't endlessly walk up and through walls. There is a point where Nate can flat out no longer use his ability until he's rested. Even worse, he could run out of energy while INSIDE a wall. That luckily hasn't happened yet, and I don't want to think of what could happen to Nate if it does.

Equipment: Nate has a pocket knife, but he is most comfortable using his hands/fist fighting. He also uses his power as an offensive weapon, by walking through someone he can essentially rip their organs apart, thus killing them.

Origin: Nate had this ability since he was born and didn't realize it 'till he was 17. It's a natural ability, no strange accident, at least, none that he knows of. There were always little happenings, like leaning against a wall and falling through it just a fraction of an inch, but it never really made a connection in his brain. The first time he fully realized he had powers was when the bully of the orphanage pushed him up against a wall - and Nate fell right through it.

Relations: None as of now. He's not a friendly chap, but talk to me if you want to make a relation? c:

Identity: Hamilton Avery

Alias: Mr. Electric

Gender: Male

Age: 24

Alignment: Rogue

Affiliation:Solo

32a40bb451ffa44933344168a24ca4d9.jpg

Personality
: If someone were to describe Hamilton, they'd probably call him narcissistic or arrogant or full of himself, which he is and is not ashamed to admit. He uses his looks and charm to get what he wants, and his manipulating skills will wrap any girl around his finger. It also helps that he has mind control, but most of the time he doesn't even need to use it. With that being said, Hamilton has learned to lie as if his life depended on it, and in a way it does. He makes money off the people he tricks, so it's only suitable that he treats it seriously.

When not screwing with others mind, Hamilton can be found in many places, the gym, his couch with a bag of chips, the park looking for new victims, or just strolling around looking for something to do. Hamilton's days have no schedule, he does what he wants when he wants and will drop what he's doing just to do something else. If he's going to cause some trouble (ie. rob a bank) he'd be seen scouting out the place for any easy ways in or for people who he can control easily.

When it comes to causing trouble, Hamilton has a lot more order. Usually he follows a routine when robbing banks or stores and for anything bigger than that, it takes a few days for him to plan in advance. However, most of his crimes are successful and he's only been caught once when he was younger.

Powers: Electricity Manipulation and Mind Control. Hamilton can create, shape, and form electricity from thin air to use at his disposal using electricity and other forms of electrical energy. This makes him immune to shock or any type of electrical damage. He can also control others mind, making them do what he says with just his words.

Equipment: Hamilton isn't the type to carry around a weapon, but his suit is made of special fibers that make him resistant to most natural problems (ie. extreme hot or cold temperatures). He also has a face mask that covers most of his face.

Origin: Hamilton was born with his powers, and knew ever since he was a child. The first thing that happened was when he was trying to talk a bully down from taking his money, it actually worked. He didn't think much of it then, but he kept using it more and more and figured he must have a gift. The second thing that happened was that he got so mad at his sister that he shot a bolt of electricity at her by accident, effectively shaving some off her hair. His parents talked to him about it, and apparently, they knew already from his doctor who told them he has a special DNA pattern. Hamilton continued to use his powers to get him out of trouble and other mischievous reasons.

Relations:

Hansel Avery, Father- One of the two people who've grown to resist his mind control.

Vinda Avery, Mother- The second person who has grown to resist his mind control.

Beatrix Avery, Sister- His relationship with her is poor because of her hate for his powers and lifestyle.

Gerald St. James, Cousin- His closest friend while growing up and his roommate now.

First I want to apologize for my sudden disappearance. Long story short I'm drowning in homework, I've seriously never had so many papers assigned so quickly. I had 2 assigned over the weekend, 1 due yesterday, and another one due tonight along with a handful of other assorted busy work.

Fortunately I've pried myself away for the moment to try and get any amount of this done. It looks like you guys already found the actual thread which I was gonna hold off on posting up here until I had some more free time, but it's a tad too late for that so I'll try to get everyone situated as fast as possible. I'll spend the next hour or 2 reading through everyone's submissions, accepting sheets, asking questions, and suggesting edits as needed but once you're in feel free to start.
