Formations are subject to change dependent on the scale of battle and terrain. Tutans don't use cavalry, so expect a lot of tight-knit battle lines. With that said, every character will prolly be given a shield, since Skeldvag is one of the most practiced formation to attack and defend. It's also a sure way of mitigating projectiles, since skirmishers are employed in most cultures.
As for classification of who is best at what when called upon, here's the general three-category structure for the time being:

Hersirs (Vanguard and defense): Sigrid, Otrygg, Hargrimm, Kara, and Arni.

Ulfsarks (Flanks and counterattacks): Kaija, Emily, Anja, Aglain.

Hexers (Rearguard and support): Hakan, Harper, Eyvendur and Solfrid.
