Realistic or Modern Can't Fight What's Right

Jordan sighed heavily and gave her a nod letting her leave without another word.

Hector looked at his daughter as she came into the house and smiled wide at her "Well hello beautiful! I've missed you!" He said happily

Max gave a quiet laugh before she cleaned herself up a bit. She went to Jon once she was ready and gave a heavy sigh "I'm ready to go." She said softly

She smiled and hugged him tightly. “Hey, I brought your juice.” She told him quietly, “let’s get inside dad it’s cold out here. Why do you have no socks on in this weather?” She smiled, following him inside.

he nodded and headed out to the garage with her, trailing over the various car keys before settling on his Cadillac and grabbed those, heading to the right car with her and leaving.

Max got into the car with him shaking her head some "You did always say you'd have a bit of a car collection once you got older." She said as she buckled up.

Hector frowned some and shrugged a bit "Feels good out to me." He murmured before following her inside "How are you doinf sweetheart?" He asked having probably the best day he has had in a while.

He nodded and smiled. “You should see the ones I keep in New York.” He chuckled. “I obviously don’t get to use it much though seeing as the old man insists on me using a driver.” He shrugged a little. “But today let’s go less conspicuous”

She rolled her eyes some. “Uh huh… I’m doing okay… Pedro is working a lot now so I’ve gone to work on the ranch more. Jordan’s done a great job with the place.” She told him.

Max nodded softly and smiled only briefly "Right, you always did hate drivers." She said quietly before frowning as she remembered one the last times she had been in a car with Jon driving. It had been the accident that killed their son.

Hector nodded some and sat down with while she put the juice away "Thank you for the juice. Yeah Jordan is a real savior for me there. If he hadn't stepped in I would have had to sell and the ranch would have left our family for the first time in a century." He explained with a heavy sigh. The ranch had been a family heirloom to all the males in their family, but when her brother left and his health declined Hector had no one to take care of it and gjve it to.

She shrugged a little "I would take it on Dad but I was thousands of miles away." She reminded him, shaking her head a little when he just grumbled about that, "Oh hey, your cousin's son is getting married next week, I got your suit ready and Pedro's and I found a dress for it so we have that to look forward to." She reminded him as well and sat down, "I'm not staying late tonight Dad I got some stuff to sort out."

He nodded and frowned, "That didn't happen just because we didn't have a driver. If we'd had one that day all three of us would have died." He muttered, his grip tightening on the wheel momentarily.

Hector frowned a bit and grumbled softly about her being far away. He gave a small nod as she mentioned the wedding "Right, will you both be able to take me? Jordan doesn't like me driving much anymore."

Max gave a small nod and sighed heavily wiping at her eyes "Yeah I know.." she said quietly

She nodded and smiled, "Yeah, I'm gonna come pick you up in the morning then we're gonna collect Pedro from the school on the way and go straight there.... Dad you know Jordan isn't actually your son right? I'm your daughter... Not him." She sighed a little.

Jon frowned, going quiet for the rest of the drive there, pulling in and letting her take her time once he turned the car off, sitting there in the silence until she was ready to get out and go inside.

Hector frowned more and nodded some "Yes I know he isn't my son but since you went to the city he is all I've had here so excuse me if I hold his opinion of advice in high regard."he said in a nasty tone before he got up and went to his room.

Max took deep breaths as the pulled up to the station. She let a few tears fall before she stepped out of the car "Lets get this done." She whispered before walkimg inside

She sighed heavily and got his dinner sorted for him, leaving him a very clear set of instructions on how to finish making it before leaving him to it and going to Jordan's place, ringing the doorbell.

Jon nodded and headed in with her, walking up to the front desk. "Hey.... We're here about the body found.. This is the partner of Jasper Pa... Pakkonnen?" He said, struggling with the last name a little. "She's here to identify the body." He told the guy.

Max looked at the man at the front desk frowning a bit but stayed quiet once he gave them a nod 'Please follow me...the detectives would like to speak with you afterwards.'

Jordan opened the door when he heard the knock and gave a soft smile "Hey. Please come in." He said quietly before opening the door fully and letting her walk in

She smiled a little and stepped inside, looking around and shook her head. “You always were a neat freak.” She mumbled, following him to sit on his couch, just sitting and staring at him for a few minutes before she said anything. “I love you Jordan. And I have for a very very long time. … and I’ve already told you that I love Pedro as well but I’ve thought about it. A lot…. He will never know me like you do and I can picture my life without him…. I can’t do the same with you…. So I plan to leave him. Hopefully as cleanly as possible but… I know he’s gonna be hurt one way or the other.” She sighed quietly.

Jon followed her as far as he could then waited outside of the morgue for her, chewing on his lip hoping she could keep her story together enough.

Jordan sat down across from her and gave a small laugh "Yeah...can't help it." He murmured before sitting in silence for a bit. He went wide eyed when she said she would leave Pedro and smiled widely "You....you would do that for me?"

Max walked into the morgue with the detective and gulped as they got to the table. She whimpered as they peeled she sheet back before the memory and emotions of finding him flooded her brain making her break down again nodding some "Why?!" She yelled trying to hold him but the detective kept her back.

She held her hand up for a moment and frowned "Let me make it clear I'm not doing it FORn you.... I'm doing it for myself... Because I would never forgive myself for settling." She muttered, "I know I can live without Pedro... I can't go without you Jordan." She told him seriously, slipping her arms around him tightly and burying her face against his shoulder.

Jon frowned hearing her getting upset inside and resisted the urge to follow them but he stayed quiet and to the side while they continued through to the interview room.

Jordan gave a small nod and hugged her tightly to him "Whatever it is you need or want you let me know okay?" He whispered before kissing the side of her head in a comforting way

Max calmed herself enough to get to the interview room before she sat down. She thanked the detective as he gave her some tissues and quickly cleaned herself up for them.

She smiled a little and just held onto him. “Just you. And a blanket cause it’s getting cold our
There.” She murmured.

“ms Wends. Talk us through. The last few days. When was the last tkme you spoke to your partner?”

Jordan wrapped a blanket around the two fo them and chuckled quietly "Need to make sure your dad remembers its winter. He likes to think he isn't affected by the cold."

Max took a deep breath before she started to speak to them "I think 2 days ago now? We were packing for our trip home to Finland. We had a terrible fight though. I got mad about his business, that it had seemed to take over our entire vacation here. We got so heated that I left for the night and went to stay with a friend I had in town. I...I thought he was giving me the silent treatment...he did that sometimes but....he would always call eventually....god I should have called or check in sooner." She explained before she started sobbing again.

She frowned and sat up, poking him in the chest. “Speaking of. You’re in trouble.” She muttered. “He’s not listening to me over you right now. And I need him to.” She told him frowning.

“silent treatment enough that you missed your flight and didn’t think twice about that?” He questioned her

Jordan chuckled some and held her close to him "I'll talk with him. He mistakes me for your brother sometimes.." he admits giving a small sigh

Max nodded and sighed heavily "Yeah, it was that bad." She said taking a deep breath "I should have fucking called damn it....gotten over my damn pride to have him apologize first." She said sobbing

She shook her head, rolling her eyes a little and leaned back into him again, resting her head on his shoulder. “You wanna take the girls for a trail ride tomorrow? Up near the mountain and back?” She murmured.

they just nodded and frowned. “Don’t leave town for now… we may have more questions.” They told her then let her go with Jon.

Max nodded softly before thanking them and walking back out to Jon "Take me out of here please." She saud quietly to him.

Jordan smiled some and gave a nod "Yeah that sounds real nice. They'll like it too." He murmured before frowning when her phone started ringing

He nodded and walked out with her, opening her car door for her before getting in the drivers side and passed her the water bottle. “Here. They didn’t interrogate you did they?” He asked her.

she tensed a little and sat up answering. “Hey Pedge, you okay?” She asked him.

Max shook her head some "No not really. They asked where I was and what happened. I explained we had a fight about work, they asked was it so bad that I missed my flight and I said yes. They asked me not to leave town though, just in case." She explained quietly

Pedro smiled softly when he heard her voice on the line "Hey beautiful, yeah I'm alright. Just wondering what you want for dinner tonight." He said happily "Late night at the ranch? Your dad okay?"

She nodded some. “I’ll be home in a little bit. Whatever you fancy making or ordering is good with me…. Don’t forget I’m up early tomorrow cause Jordan has a show tomorrow and I’m going to take the new girl for the quiet classes, early start late finish..” she told him frowning a little.

Jon nodded some and sighed a little. “You wanna go get a burger or something for lunch? Then I got a couple meetings to go to.” He muttered.
