I finished my finals but I'd like to wait until they are properly in the town with their giant mecha; I don't think it's likely that they'll be encountering each other in the middle of the desert crags.

So, Charon knows that something like this had happened 40 years ago, but not this constant. It was more like a brief beam explosion from the same golden dome where the goliaths were struck by the same lightning, and the strange swirling disks appeared.

This was when it was discovered by the Templars that four shield maidens from their own faction were trying to rebuild what was called an Engine Blade inside the golden dome to destroy the goliaths. It had caused an uproar before including the infamous trials that started the wave of mechromancer hunt hysteria in the land of Leor and the condemnation of dangerous artifacts from the Age of Arcana. They called it the Salem Witch Trials, since the shield maidens all hailed from the town fortress of Salem in Windshear. The witches were Elizabeth Hubbard, Sarah Good, Sarah Osborne, and Tituba. They were burned after the trials, and the Engine Blade destroyed, and all the books and artifacts with the traitors were confiscated and kept inside the Cerberus Tower. Though Charon would have also heard that nine months ago a pair of thieves had broke into the tower and stole something, murdering a couple of Cerberus members in the process. This has spurred their army to go on a massive search in The Highlands and the surrounding territories.

Charon would also know that The Highlands is the territory of Lady Giantsbane, a bandit lord and that war has erupted in that territory recently because of a portal in The Sunken Ruins that had been fixed, and then the Templars unleashing a dangerous disease in The Highlands, specifically Bird Village where Lady Giantsbane lives, that doesn't have a cure as far as people know. It has caused the movement of trade and transport to stop in The Highlands, which is important because that stretch of small land is like a bridge between eastern and western Leor. It's where all people pass through, because the Thousand Cuts Badlands is smack in the middle of the continent.

So far Lady Giantsbane had gone to The Godfather, another bandit lord who is the boss of the fortress town Sanctuary, and he has agreed to help because he is mobilizing his army. The Templars too have moved their army to Three Horns divide, presumably to block The Godfather from going into The Highlands.

Mm~ (nod). The town is currently also aware of what's going on and are fighting to help stop what's going on in the golden dome, though I'll say that they haven't broken through the main defenses yet.

Sisyphus Happy , there are floating mind flayers called katulus in Vault Hunters, and the town is fighting against them controlling some steam punk looking spider machines no one has ever seen before, and also against a huge hoard of enslaved drows and surprisingly some Templar soldiers not dressed in desert armor, but dressed more closely to Windshear Templars.
