[Burn Legend] Hit the Showers

When it comes down to it, it's a game of chance with a weird game-theory psychology component of guessing your opponent's actions. It's not a bad game, just not my thing.

*nod* understandable. That's one reason I think it is better to have open sheets, so you can better read your opponent of the bat, and dodging the whole use random attacks for a few rounds biznas. I've been trying to think up a combo mechanic, but it is in the very early stages of contemplation.

I'll wait until I see the results of your work before I go nuts, but I'll put 2 cents in for being against anything that makes combat take more steps. For my part the stagger rules easily represent the results of successful combos in fighters anyway. *shrug*

OTOH, PbP would be the spot to do an additive system given how the base rules work anyway.

There are some NPCs affiliated with the tournament for the story aspect that comes afterwards, but I'm not sure if I want to pad the numbers with an NPC or two just yet.

On the topic of a combo mechanic, I was thinking Willpower seemed like it could use another use or two. Presently, spending Willpower seems to be limited to one Reversal per combat - and if you're in a fight to the death, you really shouldn't end that fight with Willpower remaining. A system like.. "Spend one or two Willpower and declare the combo. For one Willpower, you may use any two Basic Techniques - if the first one hits, the second one also inflicts damage, as long as it wasn't outright defeated by the opponent's move. For two Willpower, you may use any two Martial Arts or Exalted Techniques from the same category (Mugen techniques can be combined with Martial Arts techniques from the styles they get a discount from)." might work. No adding extra steps, just rolling damage one more time - IF your first attack is successful AND the second attack doesn't automatically lose to your opponent's.

Note I haven't tested this for balance at all, I just came up with it and threw it out there, but I do think the system needs a way to spend more Willpower for important fights... and maybe give ki another use. Maybe an Exalt's Combo could cost 1 wp 1 ki or 2 wp at their option, while non-Exalts are still stuck spending two Willpower.

2 WP in a system that only has 5 WP as your max is too much IMO. And even then I'm still not sold on needing a combo system on top of what we've already got. Do we really need to replicate every part of a fighter in a tabletop system?

Replicate... huh? I just like the idea of being able to use your inner drive for something besides changing your mind once a day. And I did say it's got no balance considerations at all, it's still just an idea. Momo said he was trying to think of something - so I told him my thoughts.

I wouldn't say "let's use this idea in this game" yet for sure. It needs work. I need practice with the system to be able to work on it. So here we are :D

Well I did forget the part where "winning" a battle restores two points of Willpower, but I also remembered another important bit: Overdrives cost 1 WP in addition to needing a full Overdrive pool! So there's at least a chance to use 2 WP a battle anyway I suppose.

The other reason I don't think spending WP is the way to go for a combo system is because as written, the ONLY way to regain Willpower is through the above "win" condition.

Nope, I didn't get to start up this weekend because of about a dozen beers, a helping or two of whiskey, and the ensuing hangover.

I was just gonna go off of where your characters may possibly be, but if everyone would PM me where they are now, then we can RP the receipt of your invitations to the tournament.

E/ on the subject of combo mechanics, I'll probably run this game as stock for awhile, so we can worry about it later, but I was thinking something more along the lines of attacks better leading into one another, rather than having multiple attacks on the same turn, but that kinda seems like semantics.

So, Forn Clakes hasn't been on the forums in over two weeks so I am gonna have to go ahead without them. Sadness. Onward and upward!

I don't often have anything particularly amazing to post. I just kinda think for a half second about what Lucas would be doing right that moment and post it before I can change my mind.
