Bucket List Launch

...and the plot thickens.
Don't know if there's been a thread discussing pursuits of happiness and goals in life. Was curious what some of you aim for; whether small or large it provides a healthy drive thinking of things that could be waiting for you in the distance. A will to work hard and achieve wildest dreams.

My list:

1. Visit Israel

Walk where Jesus walked. I've always wanted to see the land I've heard about since I was a little child. I know I'd find so much passion there; mentally and spiritually.

2. Publish a novel.

Still a far cry from this, but I do have a work completed front to back. Ah ha...I finished it some time late 2010. My problem is being too meticulous (to a fault) and the "is this good enough" attitude. Add scene, delete scene.

Don't even get me started on the editorial process. An OCD mind doesn't help matters. I ended up walking away from it a long while. Recently I hopped back on that band wagon. Trying my hand at it once more.

Ohhh and that query letter.

In a nutshell, still got hoops and hurdles to leap and clear. I've put too much time into this project to stop now. More tragic would be letting that draft waste in a 3-ring binder.

3. Have a home built.

Nothing too fancy. I have this vision of a small rancher in a seaside town. The when, where and work aren't fully recoginized yet. But a girl can dream. I plan to use a picture I personally drew. The "enough to get the point acrossed" structure. I'm certainly not an artist, just alright for never having lessons. Tranquility is a wonder in itself.

4. Aid in an operation for disaster relief.

Whether it's serving up food, providing supplies or offering hope. To lend a helping hand would be rewarding. Be some sort of light in the darkness can only bring belonging and fulfillment. Who knows, maybe I could take with me a story that could be likened to Chicken Soup for the Soul. That would be fine with me.

5. Get a degree in Psychology.

To be a counsellor or psychologist. Just to name a few career paths I've honed my sights on a long time. I have a heart for people and I come from a lot of baggage from this life of mine. So, having a profession centering around these things would be very theraputic not only for myself but for others also.

Tell me about yours guys!

I like your bucket list. They're sane things to do and things that make you, a person, feel as if you've accomplished something more than jumping out of a plan to prove you're still alive at 55.

I will admit that I do not have a bucket list as I never saw the point of them. I'd rather live life and see where it takes me. For example, I was an NPS park ranger at Yellowstone NP. Had I made a bucket list, I can guarantee you that being a park ranger would have never been on it but I've done it and it was cool. I still have my hat, that ain't ever going away. :)

I'm a simple guy, given a bad hand. I was told 5 years ago I'm lucky if I have 10 years left. My bucket list consists of meeting Kate Backinsale. Yup, that's it.

@Xylin

It's kind of instilled in my nature to have a list and an orderly vision. I also know life happens and takes you places you never envisioned. Which, indeed is an intricate balance that works out pretty well. I never thought I'd own a pug but life sure made an ass out of me. So I try to stay away from the "I'll never" phrase. For it sinks more times than not.

I admire mindsets that don't need one. Just roll the way of a rock and not be bothered where it lands. I'm too much of a fixater, so that bridge is hard to walk acrossed personally. Probably best to go where the wind blows, I hear it can teach one a few things that probably wouldn't have come to mind unless in those moments of realization itself. Hats off to you, that's pretty cool lending a service to nature, its vastly needed these days.

I guess the ultimate reason I made this list is because I shot in the dark profusely out of high school. Going from job to job to get an idea for what fits in this life. The scale balanced more toward temporary because I never felt those jobs truly fit. But, it sure has been one hell of a process along the way. Anywhere from a rancher store, card shop, veterinary assistant to an industrial park. Never got the opportunity to jump right into college but I'm alright with that.

Power to simplicity! I'm a pretty simple girl myself and frugle too. Not sure what you're contending with but prayers to you and your fam.

Kate is one hell of an actress. So, I'd say that's a swell choice. What's your favorite movies of hers? Serendipity and White Out for me.

Having a plan is a good thing, don't get me wrong and I think I'd have been better served in my own life had I had one, but I have no impetus to make a bucket list. :)

Good question. She was brilliant as Selene in Underworld. She was so kickass in the Total Recall remake. Van Helsing is another one.
