Brutusque Boarding School

Thank you! I'm a kinda new member as well, and I'm glad your enjoying the site!

I do agree with you on how this site is "higher quality" when compared to others. Well, the ones I've been on at least.

Both of your posts are a suitable length for the site, as well as the role-play. In my eyes, length doesn't matter that much. I just despise one-liners, and I've noticed at least two paragraphs per post keeps me into the role-play.

Don't worry about the posting out of order thing much at this time, as we are just starting out.

I've only recently come back to roleplaying, having not otherwise done it for yeeeeaars. Criticism and suggestions are more than welcome here, too, but as far as I can tell you two are doing fine. Nothing stands out as horrific errors. My personal concern is writing style. (For me, I mean.)

I have to agree, Otto is really cute.

I wouldn't have suspected you to be a new member at all to this site so this is news. I'm glad that i'm able to participate i'm normally very intimidated by detailed roeplays but this one is giving out a very nice and friendly vibe and i feel like i'm not holding anyone back ^-^

Yeah, me too. I like apparent detail and pure creativity that goes into a lot of detailed-category roleplays, but I can just see my writing style doesn't capture the same details and allow for that length of like 5 fleshy paragraphs without filling it with.. well, fillers.

I'd love to give it a shot, though. Just writing a lot makes me tired, that's all xD

Wow, I didn't expect to meet so many new site members in this group. I just joined yesterday and I wasn't sure if I would fit in.

Yes it is quite shocking but also a good thing as it means were all getting used to everything together for the most part. Also don't worry you fit in just fine and i look forward to interacting with your character.

I joined April 18th so it's been a bit of time already i guess.

Respect your elders. I'm older than yo-ou~

Oh God I know how you feel. 10 year old me roleplaying subconsciously stuck to cliches I'm guessing. Trying to make interesting OCs now.

When Ispeak normally, damn can I have a fancy ass vocabulary. I've got to not only try to develop unique personalities and play them out, but speak like them and work my dual vocab into the narration. With dialogue Ithink it's just practice and rvision, with writing I find I've worked it through adding more words to smooth it off and make it flow better.

Jesus typing is a pain in the ass. I'm on an iPod touch with an instrusive bandaid on my dominant thumb. Somuchbackspacing

@gambino, painstakingly added more to this xD

I can also talk a lot if you get me started, in case y'didn't realise.

i was about 11 and I was obsessed with that tough girl typecast oh lord

idk i mostly try and veer away from any remotely sappy or tough characters because of it now

ha, I started role-playing when I was 9, and I always had the tough-girl cliche characters too

and they always had the same names..

always either 'raven' or 'terra'

I was so obsessed with teen titans...

I started roleplaying at about 12-13 ish and my characters have always been really clumsy and good for nothing to be honest since then not much has changed other then i do create a variety of characters now but they still all tend to be quite close to good for nothing it's something i just can't stop doing.

I got my start on the neopets roleplay boards about 10 or so years ago, and back then I always wanted to do wolf pack/ warrior cats style rps. Can't recall what my characters were like back then, but I remember being frustrated because everyone always wanted to be the alphas/ most special and important characters and the whole thing would inevitably collapse within a few hours because we didn't have enough normal characters. Good times.

As for right now, I like to give as much variety to my characters as I can, but I have a tendency to make them derivative of either another character or of a person I know in real life. I've been a member of this site since December, but I took a very long break when the semester started, so I've only actively used this site for about a month.

Oh, I used to do warrior cat role-plays as well!

Mine actually lasted for quite a while, I even created this site for it xD

I'm okay at character creation, but I tend to prefer characters with big flaws, like arrogance or liers.

Wow thats a lot of warrior cats i never even knew what warrior cats were other then that their cats, some names and that it's really popular and keeps showing up everywhere ^^; I actually started roleplaying pokemon mystery dungeon stuff on a site of it i found.

Its based of this series of books that I used to read when I was younger.

thinking back on it, it was actually kind of ridiculous, but I'm glad I started reading it. Warrior cats got me into writing and role-playing. I never did Pokemon, it seemed a bit too complicated for me.

Oh okay, i wasn't much of a reader when i was younger and now i read but mostly manga and fanfiction. I adored and still adore pokemon i have many of the games which came along with my first ever ds which i still have to this day and it was thanks to the games i got into roleplay.

Any funny roleplay stories or tips? You guys are more experienced than I am, haha

Also, how long does it typically take you to write all those paragraphs?

I saw the Tv show for Pokemon when I was younger and I loved it.

My friends and I used to play it when we were younger ^^

And i collected pokemon cards too

Let's see...

Funny stories..

I'm gonna have to get back to you on that one, I can't remember any at the moment

If I'm really into the role-play, takes me 15 minutes at least, sometimes 30 to write a bunch of paragraphs

Hmm tips, if your running out of things to write about but are away from the limit use long words, throw in some details about what their wearing, describe their facial expressions or one of my overused ways of dealing with reaching expectations- write about whats going thought their mind.

When roleplaying try to find some time be it in a conversation your character is having or something else give some information about their hobbies, likes and dislikes and bring them up latter. It helps not only flesh the character out more but also keeps your character consistent.

Avoid being the person with a character that doesn't interact with anyone in any shape or form, it happens a lot and can really bring a roleplay down in groups.

As for how long it takes to write for me it takes around 10 to 20 minutes depending on my motivation and whats going on in the earlier posts.

Don't feel discouraged though, everyone writes at different speeds. I can take between 20 minutes to an hour sometimes. It's also about the kind of space that you're in when you sit down to write; the more 'into' your character's headspace that you are, the easier and faster you'll write. If you're into theater at all, think about it like improv acting!

I agree with @jaundice everyone writes at different speeds and over time you learn to write quicker just like an artist will over time be able to draw certain features faster then others at the same quality as when spending a lot of time on it.

Oh I see. So it gets quicker with practice. Thanks for the advice! I think part of the problem is that I still haven't grasped my character yet, but I'm hoping that it's a thing that gets easier as the roleplay goes on after thinking the character through multiple situations.
